The Houston Texans tried out free-agent QB Garrett Grayson (Saints), WR Jordan Leslie (Browns), TEs Larry Donnell (Ravens), Gavin Escobar (Chiefs) and David B. Johnson (Steelers) and OT Jah Reid (Chiefs) Friday, Sept. 15, according to sources not authorized to speak publicly.

San Diego Chargers TEs Antonio Gates, Ladarius Green, David B. Johnson and John Phillips will all become free agents if they are not re-signed by March 9. Gates is expected to return, however.
| Footballguys view: Gates seems like one of those players that is going to retire with the team he started with. The former basketball star was quite a find for the Chargers, and he proved last year that he's still got something left in the tank. The Green experiment is over as he never played up to his potential with the Chargers. Phillips is a nice all-purpose tight end, but he does get banged up a lot. The position is clearly going to be one of emphasis in the offseason. |

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not considering signing a tight end because they expect to get TEs Heath Miller (knee), Matt Spaeth (foot) and David Johnson (knee) back at some point during the season. Johnson could return in the near future and hopes to be able to play during the preseason. The team does not have a specific timetable for Miller's return.
| Footballguys view: The Steelers are hoping that Miller could be ready for week one of the regular season. He's coming back from the knee injury he suffered at the end of last year. If Miller isn't ready they could put him on the PUP list to start the regular season. |
