NFL | Dwayne Jarrett retires Sat Jun 9, 01:47 AM

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett released Tue Oct 5, 04:49 PM
The Carolina Panthers released WR Dwayne Jarrett Tuesday, Oct. 5, according to CBSSports.com's Will Brinson.
Footballguys view: Not a surprise here. We've learned from big Mike Williams to never write off a former USC wideout, but Jarrett has to show the desire to be a professional before we get excited about his prospects. Oh yeah, he has to find a team willing to take a chance on him as well. Perhaps Pete Carroll will see if lightning can strike twice and add Jarrett to the mix in Seattle. |

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett likely facing suspension Tue Oct 5, 12:24 PM
Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett's second arrest for DWI will likely get him a suspension from the NFL if he pleads guilty or is convicted, according to CBSSports.com. San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson was suspended three games by the league after his second DWI arrest.
Footballguys view: If Jarrett is suspended he'll put up the nearly the same stats he does now - nothing. |

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett could be released Tue Oct 5, 11:33 AM
There is a chance the Carolina Panthers could use WR Dwayne Jarrett's DWI arrest as an opportunity to release him, according to CBSSports.com. Jarrett has just 35 career receptions in four pro seasons.
Footballguys view: He's never played up to his potential, and the Panthers made a youth movement at the WR position this offseason. They added three rookie receivers in the 2010 NFL Draft and could easily release Jarrett and move forward with the likes of Brandon LaFell, David Gettis, and Armanti Edwards. |

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett arrested for DWI Tue Oct 5, 10:13 AM
Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett has been arrested for driving while impaired for the second time in less than three years, according to The Associated Press. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police spokesman Bob Fey says Jarrett was pulled over on I-77 in Charlotte early Tuesday, Oct. 5. No other details were immediately available. He was released on $2,000 bond.
Footballguys view: Dwayne Jarrett has never lived up to his potential and this latest arrest could spell the end of his time in Carolina...or the NFL. |

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett asked for trade or release in offseason Fri Oct 1, 10:38 AM
Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, asked the team for a trade or release following the NFL Draft, according to Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com. 'My agent has worked on that behind the scenes,' Jarrett said. 'We had a couple of talks about a couple of things. Of course, they don't want to let me go or anything like that because they feel like I can help out the team. I guess it's a matter of me getting that opportunity to help out the team.' At the time Jarrett was unsure of his standing with the team, especially after the Panthers drafted three receivers in the draft. Jarrett said Thursday, Sept. 30, he hasn't approached the team recently about getting out of the remainder of his one-year contract, even though he was inactive in Week 3.

Panthers | Still confident in Dwayne Jarrett Mon Sep 27, 08:11 PM
The Carolina Panthers still have confidence in WR Dwayne Jarrett despite making him inactive for Week 3, reports CarolinaGrowl.com's Steve Reed. 'I still have confidence in him because he is on the 53-man roster,' Fox said after the game. 'He'll get an opportunity to play this season. Those are the things I talk to the team about when we do make inactives. I wouldn't read too much into that.'

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett frustrated over reduced role Tue Sep 21, 11:11 AM
Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett admitted he is frustrated by being passed on the depth chart by WRs Brandon LaFell and David Gettis the past two weeks, according to Darin Gantt, of the Charlotte Observer. Jarrett was active but didn't have a ball thrown his way in Week 2. 'I wouldn't say angry, more frustrated than anything,' Jarrett said. 'But what can you do? Go out there, keep working hard, and hopefully I get my opportunity. Not really much I can really do about it.'

Panthers | Receivers not stepping up to claim starting job Sat Aug 21, 02:15 PM
Carolina Panthers WRs Dwayne Jarrett, Kenny Moore, Brandon LaFell and Wallace Wright have not stepped up to claim the team's No. 2 starting receiver position, reports The Associated Press. 'I think it's still shaking out,' general manager Marty Hurney said.
Footballguys view: The battle to be a starter opposite of Steve Smith should boil down to Dwayne Jarrett vs Brandon LaFell. Jarrett has been a disappointment over the course of his career, but has been playing much better in camp this year. LaFell is the rookie out of LSU with a good size/speed combination. We'll see if any distance is gained between these two over the next couple of weeks. |

Panthers | Four competing for No. 2 WR job Sun Aug 15, 01:28 PM
Carolina Panthers wide receiver coach Tyke Tolbert views WRs Brandon LaFell, Dwayne Jarrett, Wallace Wright and Kenny Moore as candidates for the team's No. 2 wide receiver job, reports Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com.
Footballguys view: Jarrett might be resurrecting his career like former Trojans wideout Mike Williams is doing in Seattle. Rookie Brandon LaFell has a good size/speed combination and can get to top speed in a hurry. Wright has the knack to make big plays, and Moore can help as a receiver or a return man. This race is too close to call at this point, but we feel it will either be LaFell or Jarrett lining up opposite Steve Smith in week one. |

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett believes he has matured Sun Aug 15, 01:05 PM
Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett said he believes he has become a more mature player since entering the season as a rookie, reports CarolinaGrowl.com's Steve Reed. 'I got drafted so young, I think I was just 20, and with me growing up it was like I was a teenager in the NFL,' Jarrett said. 'With that and having the experience of having everything I went through to this point, there was definitely a growth process that happened in the three years I've been here.'

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett entered camp lighter Sun Aug 15, 01:05 PM
Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett entered training camp 10 pounds lighter than last season and seems committed to making the team, according to CarolinaGrowl.com's Steve Reed.
Footballguys view: Like fellow big Trojan WR Mike Williams, Jarrett seems to have salvaged his career this offseason, but it is yet to be seen if that momentum can carry over to the regular season. |

Carolina Panthers WRs Dwayne Jarrett, Kenny Moore and Brandon LaFell will see time with the first-team offense during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 11, reports The Associated Press.
Footballguys view: While Steve Smith is out it's opening up opportunity for guys behind him on the depth chart. We feel when the season begins rookie Brandon LaFell should be the starter opposite of Smith. LaFell has a great size/speed combination and can be a perfect downfield threat to stretch the defense. |

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett entering make-or-break year Mon Jul 26, 01:53 PM
It is a make-or-break year for Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett, reports Darin Gantt, of The Charlotte Observer. He has often teased for three years, looking good in practice but disappearing during games. Along the way, excuses have been made for him. With no veteran in his way of starting, the excuses are gone and this year it will be up to Jarrett to show if he is capable of being a player.
Footballguys view: We're predicting break in this situation. If Jarrett was going to show something, he would have done it by now. |

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett could be released Sat Jul 24, 04:44 PM
The Carolina Panthers could release WR Dwayne Jarrett if he does not start producing on the field, reports Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com.
Footballguys view: Jarrett has been a huge disappointment since coming out of USC in 2007. The Panthers made a youth movement at the wide receiver position this offseason, selecting Brandon LaFell, Armanti Edwards, and David Gettis in the 2010 NFL Draft. Jarrett could be shown the door because of the logjam of young (but unproven) talent in Carolina. |

Panthers | LaFell opening eyes in Carolina Sun May 30, 03:12 PM
The Rock Hill Herald has deemed rookie WR Brandon LaFell as "the man to watch" in the competition for the open starting receiver job opposite Steve Smith. LaFell's big size and blocking ability gives him an edge over underachieving veteran Dwayne Jarrett for the gig, according to the paper.
Footballguys view: LaFell has the size to be a nice red zone target, and could take advantage of single coverage down the field as defense's will be so focused on Steve Smith. He does have small hands, and has struggled with mind-numbing drops throughout his career. We'll see if LaFell can beat out Jarrett for the staring gig in Carolina. |

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett receiving praise Sun May 2, 12:20 PM
Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said WR Dwayne Jarrett has done everything the team has asked of him during the offseason and is working incredibly hard. He noted if offseason work is any indication, Jarrett is going to be a factor for the Panthers in 2010.
Footballguys view: Jarrett is going to face more competition this year from rookie's Brandon LaFell (LSU) and David Gettis (Baylor). If Jarrett doesn't start living up to expectations he could find himself on the roster bubble when training camp rolls around. |
Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett working with starters at minicamp Sat May 1, 04:51 PM
Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com, reports Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett started minicamp with the first-team offense opposite WR Steve Smith.
Footballguys view: Dwayne Jarrett has more competition after the 2010 NFL Draft. The Panthers are looking to the future, and could replace Jarrett in the starting lineup with either rookie Brandon LaFell or David Gettis. |

Panthers | Dwayne Jarrett hires Drew Rosenhaus as new agent Tue Apr 27, 12:10 PM
According to Steve Reed, of the Gaston Gazette, Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett has fired his former agent and hired agent Drew Rosenhaus to represent him. Rosenhaus is viewed as a guy who has a knack for swinging trades for his clients.
Footballguys view: Rosenhaus can get him money, but it's too bad the NFL Super Agent can't make Jarrett a better receiver. Jarrett hasn't been Big Mike Williams bad, but he certainly hasn't played up to his potential during his time in the NFL. |

Panthers | Smith says Jarrett must step up Tue Mar 30, 10:21 AM
Pat Yasinskas, of ESPN.com, reports Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith said WR Dwayne Jarrett has showed signs of improvement but that he must step up this season if he wants to make an impact in the NFL. 'I think what you're going to see out of Dwayne Jarrett is what Dwayne Jarrett wants to show,' Smith said. 'I think he's improving, but at the same time, this game comes and goes so quickly with players that if a guy doesn't show what he has at some point, the game is going to pass them by.'
Footballguys view: Jarrett is not quite as big a bust as former Trojans WR Mike Williams - but it's close. During his time at USC the big wide receiver looked dominant, yet in the NFL his game has not translated well. He often looks lost on the field, is slow in and out of his breaks, and has not transformed into the red zone threat that many thought he would. Smith says Jarrett must step up, but we're not counting on it. Don't be surprised if Carolina addresses the wide receiver position at some point in the 2010 NFL Draft. |

Panthers | WR Jarrett sticking with the team Wed Mar 10, 12:09 AM
Steve Reed, from the Gaston Gazette, notes it looks as though WR Dwayne Jarrett is likely to stick with the Carolina Panthers unless he completely bombs out in training camp. That didn't look like the case at the end of the 2009 season when Jarrett was declared inactive by coach John Fox before injuries forced him back on to the field. Really there's no reason to release Jarrett at this point and here's why: The Panthers have to pay him about $530,000 in guaranteed money this year anyway as part of second portion of original rookie signing bonus. Normally with most rookie contracts that money is paid it out well before the fourth season, but Jarrett has played so little (and been so unproductive) that he hasn't triggered that second signing bonus under the terms of his contract. Until now. The Panthers will have to pay him that bonus this year regardless of whether he makes the team or not since it is his final season.
Footballguys view: It looks like Jarrett has lucked out -- for now. He'll have to prove that he has improved (even if ever so slightly) or else the Panthers might decide to just get rid of him. |

Panthers | Jarrett's future with team in question Thu Dec 24, 10:19 AM
Charles Chandler, of the Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett may not be with the team next season because he has not lived up to his potential. Jarrett was inactive in Week 16 because the team wanted to take a look at other receivers. Jarrett believes he has improved significantly the last three years, but it has just not shown up in the stats.
Footballguys view: Just another disappointment in the line of big USC wide receivers that failed to get it done in the NFL. Steve Smith (NYG) was a secondary receiver to Jarrett in college, but has had a much better career thus far. It wouldn't surprise us if the Panthers decide to let Jarrett go in the offseason. |

Muhammad is not sure when he will return, but Reed points out that teammates Thomas Davis and Jon Beason took four weeks and about 20 days to return from their MCL injuries, respectively. "The knee will tell me when it's ready," Muhammad said.
Footballguys view: You can rule him out for this week and pencil Dwayne Jarrett into the lineup. He caught a few passes in the first half last week, including a third-and-long conversion, but he wasn't a big part of the game plan after the Panthers opened up a lead and abandoned the pass. |

Footballguys view: Dwayne Jarrett, the Panthers second-round pick from USC in 2007, could start as the No. 2 receiver in Week 8, while cornerback Sherrod Martin will likely start at free safety. Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com, reports Carolina Panthers WR Kenneth Moore had a good preseason and has a chance to move ahead of WR Dwayne Jarrett for the No. 3 receiver job. There is a chance the Panthers have only three wide receivers active for a game.
Footballguys view: Dwayne Jarrett has been a bust since coming out of USC, and earlier reports already had Moore ahead of him on the depth chart. Moore is a possession receiver that should not be a threat to move up past number three on the depth chart. |

Panthers | K. Moore pushing for No. 3 WR? Thu Sep 3, 04:23 PM
David Scott, of the Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panthers WR Kenneth Moore has played well enough this preseason that he appears to be pushing WR Dwayne Jarrett for the No. 3 wide receiver job.
Footballguys view: This is in line to previous reports from this week. Dwayne Jarrett has been a huge disappointment, and Moore has seemingly overtaken him as the Panthers' number three receiver. There's not a lot of fantasy production coming from the third receiver on a run heavy team, but if injuries strike in front of him on the depth chart, we could see Kenneth Moore become more of a fantasy factor. |

Well, the way things are tracking now, he's not going to get a chance, because he's probably not going to be active for any games.
Footballguys view: Kenneth Moore has apparently supplanted him on the depth chart as the third receiver in Carolina. Jarrett is looking more and more like Mike Williams version 2.0 |

Panthers | Moore supplants Jarrett as 3rd receiver? Mon Aug 31, 01:02 PM
Darin Gannt, from the Rock Hill Herald, reports Kenny Moore has effectively supplanted Dwayne Jarrett as the third receiver, and looks like a guy who can make the few plays leftover after Delhomme throws to Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad.
Footballguys view: Moore has been impressive this preseason while Jarrett has been plagued with inconsistencies once again. We don't expect either Moore or Jarrett to be much of a fantasy factor as the third receiver on a run heavy team. |

David Scott, from the Charlotte Observer, reports WR Dwayne Jarrett is entrenched as the No.3 receiver, but he had just one catch for 3 yards against the Giants and is not showing he can get open consistently.
Footballguys view: This is why the Panthers may be in trouble when they look to the passing game. Steve Smith will draw double and triple teams, but can Muhsin Muhammad and Dwayne Jarrett take advantage of single coverage? This is also another reason why the team may look to split out RB Mike Goodson in the slot, and TE Gary Barnridge may be a sneaky backup TE with upside in fantasy leagues. |

Panthers | Jarrett leading candidate for No. 3 receiver role Tue Aug 11, 03:15 AM
Mike Cranston, of The Associated Press, reports Carolina Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett is the leading candidate to be the team's No. 3 receiver this year.
Footballguys view: Jarrett is the leader by default because the team hasn't made many moves to bolster their WR corps. With Steve Smith out, Jarrett should get a lot of reps with the first team, which will be a valuable chance for him to prove himself entering his third season. |

Panthers | Jarrett a shot to be the feature receiver in preseason Mon Aug 10, 11:00 PM
The Charlotte Observer is reporting Dwayne Jarrett is the team's No. 3 receiver and will get a shot at perhaps being the Panthers' featured receiver in the preseason. And guys like Jason Carter, Kenneth Moore, Marcus Monk and Ryne Robinson -- all trying to fit in there behind Jarrett, should see their playing time increase.
Footballguys view: Dwayne Jarrett has failed to live up to expectations in his pro career, and 2009 may be a make or break year for him. The Panthers want to have a run-heavy offense, but when they need to air it out the team must have a threat other than Steve Smith. Jarrett could be that threat because of his size and leaping ability, but he will need to improve his route running and concentration if he's ever to reach his potential. |

Panthers | Team to add veteran if Jarrett falters? Sat Aug 1, 12:37 PM
Charles Chandler, from the Charlotte Observer, reports the Panthers need a solid third receiver, creating an opportunity for third-year man Dwayne Jarrett to live up to his immense potential. Jarrett, a 2007 second-round pick, faces a key season. If he progresses as the team hopes, he'll fill the need for a solid No.3 receiver and an eventual successor for Muhammad. But what if Jarrett doesn't progress? There are no other experienced receivers on the roster. Candidates for the fourth position include Ryne Robinson, Jason Carter and Kenny Moore. Each of them also are candidates to be the kickoff and/or punt returner. Depending on how the preseason goes, the Panthers might be forced to consider adding a reliable receiver before the regular season begins.
Footballguys view: The Panthers want to once again feature a run-heavy offense, but there are serious questions about the depth of their WR corps. The team will monitor Jarrett's progress through training camp, and could choose to add a veteran free agent or a camp cut from another team that they feel is worthy of a roster spot. |
