Colts | Edgerrin James mentoring Trent Richardson Sat Aug 9, 11:25 PM
Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson had retired RB Edgerrin James watching him in practice Saturday, Aug. 9. 'It was a blessing, man,' Richardson said. 'Just to watch practice, he said he's going to do a lot more with me, going to be hands-on.'
Footballguys view: Richardson needs all the help he can get. We'll see if James can guide Richardson in a positive direction. Richardson has been a disappointment so far with the Colts. He's got to play with more confidence and decisiveness as a runner. |

The Indianapolis Colts announced former RB Edgerrin James has been inducted into the team's ring of honor. 'I feel great. It is a tremendous honor. It's one of those things that you set out to do and hope to have a career where you can leave a lasting imprint,' James said.

Seahawks | E. James waived Tue Nov 3, 05:26 PM
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Seattle Seahawks waived RB Edgerrin James Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Footballguys view: It was never really working for Edgerrin James during his time in Seattle, and now his career may be over. In the meantime, the Seahawks may look to involve backup running back Justin Forsett more in the offense. |

Seahawks | James moves up career rushing list Sun Nov 1, 07:06 PM
Eric Williams, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Edgerrin James rushed for 17 yards in Week 8, which moved him into 10th on the all-time rushing yard list.

Greg Johns, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Edgerrin James gained just three yards on three carries Week 6.
Footballguys view: There was no running room for any of the Seahawks backs, and Julius Jones led all carriers with only 5 yards rushing in the game. James is now 15 yards shy of passing Marcus Allen to move up into the top 10 all-time leading rushers in NFL history. |

Seahawks | James sees playing time Thursday Fri Sep 4, 10:18 AM
Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Edgerrin James rushed for 11 yards on two carries in first game with the Seahawks Thursday, Sept. 3. Head coach Jim Mora said he wanted James to run the ball a couple of times with the first-team offense.

Seahawks | James could play in preseason finale Tue Sep 1, 10:55 AM
Eric D. Williams, from the Tacoma News-Tribune, reports Seahawks head coach Jim Mora said there's a chance running back Edgerrin James could play Thursday if he feels comfortable with the team's offensive scheme. James went through his most extensive work with the team in practice Monday.
Footballguys view: We're excited to see what James looks like with his new team, and he's anxious to prove that he still has something left in the tank. Julius Jones is the starter for now, but it wouldn't be surprising to see James take over some time during the season. |

Seahawks | James has not participated in team drills Fri Aug 28, 11:49 AM
Ryan Divish, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Edgerrin James has done some light individual drills but has not participated in any team drills since he has joined the team. He has been talking with players after plays and has been watching practice intently.
Footballguys view: The article compared Julius Jones to Batman, and Edgerrin James to Robin. If that's the case then Jones is like the George Clooney Batman, and should be replaced ASAP. In all seriousness, James is a veteran and a professional, so this lack of participation isn't that concerning at this early phase. The Seahawks signed James as insurance in case Julius Jones goes out with an injury or is ineffective. Either way, it wouldn't surprise us to see James break out of his "complementary" role and become the starter for the Seahawks at some time during the regular season. |

Seahawks | Edge to get short-yardage carries? Thu Aug 27, 08:42 PM
Clare Farnsworth, of Seahawks.com, reports that Seahawks head coach Jim Mora Jr. has indicated that new signing Edgerrin James is cut out for short yardage duty. Mora said, "Warrick Dunn, who was not of the biggest stature, was one of the best third-and-short runners I've ever been around because he knew how to find the crease. I think Edgerrin does that. He rarely takes a negative run. He always falls forward. So he'll be a good addition for this football team."
Footballguys view: Julius Jones didn't get short yardage work with Dallas, so it makes sense that Seattle would rather trust another RB with that duty. We're not particularly excited about either backs fantasy prospects, because Justin Forsett will also play a role, and the Seahawks have also been riddled with injuries on the offensive line. |

Seahawks | Mora not worried about short-yardage situations Thu Aug 27, 10:36 AM
Greg Johns, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports Seattle Seahawks head coach Jim Mora said he is not worried about short-yardage situations after the team released RB T.J. Duckett because they have several other options to get the job done. '[RB Edgerrin James] and [RB Julius Jones] and [RB Justin Forsett] and our passing game, we'll get it done. It's not always about having a big hammer, it's also about having a guy that kind find the crease,' Mora said.
Footballguys view: Last season with the Cardinals, whenever the distance was 3 yards or less, James carried the ball 19 times for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns. That works out to an average of 3.2 yards per carry, so James was able to move the sticks on most occasions. He's not as explosive as he used to be, but he knows how to get low and get skinny, plus he keeps his feet driving after hitting the pile. |

Seahawks | James contract update Wed Aug 26, 09:14 AM
John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Edgerrin James' one-year deal with the team can be worth as much as $2 million if he hits all of his incentives, according to a source. However, it is not known what the base salary is or what guarantees are involved.

Seahawks | Edge officially joins squad Tue Aug 25, 10:20 PM
Agent Drew Rosenhaus tweeted RB Edgerrin James is now officially a member of the Seattle Seahawks. James received a one-year deal with the team, but financial terms have not been disclosed.
Footballguys view: We think Edge is worth a late-round pick, especially in non-PPR leagues, because he looked more effective than Julius Jones did last year. |

Seahawks | James capable of playing on any down Mon Aug 24, 07:21 PM
Mike Sando, of ESPN.com, reports RB Edgerrin James provides the Seattle Seahawks with an experienced running back capable of playing on any down. His abilities in picking up the blitz could also help the team in pass protection. The Seahawks have issues on the offensive line, which makes it unreasonable to expect most backs - especially an older one - to flourish behind a struggling line. James, coming from a division rival, seems to be highly motivated after being cast aside by the Arizona Cardinals.
Footballguys view: The Seahawks are clearly not satisfied with the Jones-Duckett duo, and we expect James to play as big a role as either of the holdovers from last year's squad. |

Seahawks | Add RB Edgerrin James Mon Aug 24, 05:56 PM
ProFootballTalk.com is reporting the Seahawks have added veteran RB Edgerrin James.
Footballguys view: James is out to prove that he has something left in the tank, and Seattle is a perfect landing spot for him. Julius Jones is one of the least exciting options as a starting RB, and the Seahawks have brought in serious competition for his starting job by signing James. |

NFL | James feels he can still play at high level Wed Jul 22, 02:18 AM
David Dorsey, of The Fort Myers News-Press, reports free-agent RB Edgerrin James (Cardinals) reiterated his desire to play in the NFL this year. 'There are not 32 backs out there who are better than me,' James said. He isn't saying where he wants to play this year, noting that will take care of itself. 'I can play at a high level,' James added. James needs 123 rushing yards to crack the top 10 in league history.
Footballguys view: We agree with James. He was an important part of the Cardinals Super Bowl run, and he was generally more effective than Tim Hightower between the 20s last year. James lacks the burst he had earlier in his career, but we think would still be the best RB on the Seahawks roster if they decided to sign him. |

NFL | Rosenhaus says James will play this season Mon Jul 13, 03:35 PM
Edgar Thompson, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Drew Rosenhaus, agent for unrestricted free-agent RB Edgerrin James (Cardinals), said James will play this season but may wait to sign until training camps start and an injury forces a team to look to add another running back.
Footballguys view: James has far more left in the tank than a guy like Shaun Alexander does, and he should be among the first veteran free agent RBs to get a phone call when injuries strike in training camp. The Saints have considered bringing him in to backup Pierre Thomas, but are currently happy with Mike Bell in that role. |

NFL | Edgerrin James in great shape according to agent Wed Jul 1, 09:05 PM
On his twitter page Drew Rosenhaus commented on his client Edgerrin James. "I can tell you that Edgerrin James is in great playing shape. He weighs 216lbs and is training hard. He is excited about this season!"
Footballguys view: There has been a little interest in Edgerrin James so far this offseason, but the veteran will most likely have to wait until injuries strike in training camp before receiving an offer from a team. |

NFL | Agent says James received offer Sat Jun 27, 08:12 AM
Tom Curran, of ProFootballTalk.com, reports the agent for free-agent RB Edgerrin James (Cardinals), Drew Rosenhaus, said James did receive an offer earlier this offseason but turned it down. 'We will be selective. We want to make sure for Edge that he goes to a good situation. He would like an opportunity to have a significant role and a great opportunity for playing time,' Rosenhaus said. 'We may wait until right before camp and see what teams have the greatest need. We may wait until during or after camps when teams are dealing with injuries.'
Footballguys view: James is looking for consistent carries, and could also be looking for a championship ring of his own. He has more left in the tank than Shaun Alexander did last year, and will be patient and wait until injuries hit for the right situation to arise. |

Saints | Still considering James Tue May 19, 12:44 PM
Alex Marvez, of FOXSports.com, reports the New Orleans Saints remain open to the idea of signing free-agent RB Edgerrin James (Cardinals). 'We've spent some time evaluating Edgerrin,' general manager Mickey Loomis said Tuesday, May 19. 'We think he can still play. We're going to continue to evaluate that and see where it ends up. We haven't made a decision on Edgerrin yet.'
Footballguys view: The Saints keep sending off signals that they aren't entirely sold on Pierre Thomas as the thunder, or at least they aren't sold on their RB depth. The battle for the RB3 job in the Crescent City will be one to watch regardless of whether Edge is signed because #3 RBs have emerged as fantasy studs for New Orleans down the stretch each of the last two seasons. |

NFL | James receiving interest Thu May 14, 01:32 PM
Drew Rosenhaus, agent for unrestricted free-agent RB Edgerrin James (Cardinals), reports on his Twitter page that several teams have shown interest in James, but James will take his time to make sure he signs with the right team.
Footballguys view: Edgerrin James has more left in the tank than Shaun Alexander did when he left the Seahawks, so it's not surprising that several teams are interested. One of his possible destinations is New Orleans. The Saints are looking for a backup RB behind Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush. James could also push Thomas for the 1B job in the Saints RBBC. |

Saints | Will not sign James anytime soon Thu May 7, 05:30 PM
Brian Allee-Walsh, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said the team will not be signing unrestricted free-agent RB Edgerrin James any time soon.
Edgerrin James player pageSaints | Discussing possibility of signing James Wed May 6, 02:26 PM
Steve Wyche, of NFL.com, reports New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said the team has had internal discussions about the possibility of signing unrestricted free-agent RB Edgerrin James (Cardinals). The Saints likely will re-visit the talks after their upcoming minicamp.
Footballguys view: The Saints are looking to upgrade the RB position behind Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas. Edgerrinn James would make a lot of sense for them. He could give the Saints fresh legs off the bench and be veteran insurance in case of injury to one of their top 2 backs. |
Chiefs | Interested in James? Sat May 2, 07:30 AM
Bill Williamson, of ESPN.com, reports the Kansas City Chiefs could potentially pursue free-agent RB Edgerrin James (Cardinals).
Footballguys view: This makes sense because former Cardinals OC Todd Haley is now the head coach of the Chiefs. Although last year there were times when it seemed like James had fallen out of favor with Haley, he rebounded to help lead the Cardinals to the Super Bowl. Larry Johnson is doing his best to impress the new regime, and Jamaal Charles is merely the change of pace back. Edgerrin James could help give the Chiefs veteran insurance in case Larry Johnson goes down with an injury. Currently Kolby Smith, Dantrell Savage, Jackie Battle, and rookie Javarris Williams are the backs in competition for roster spots behind LJ and Charles. James would be a better option than any of those backs, with perhaps the exception of Javarris Williams who plays a lot like a younger version of Edge. |
NFL | James could have deal soon Wed Apr 29, 09:57 AM
Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic, reports free-agent RB Edgerrin James (Cardinals) could sign with a new team soon, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus. 'So far several teams have expressed interest and we may have a deal in place in the very near future,' Rosenhaus said via text message.
Footballguys view: This is coming from Drew Rosenhaus, so one must take this news with a grain of salt. James has more left in the tank than Shaun Alexander did when he was released by the Seahawks, however it could be late July before James finds a new team. |
Cardinals | James released Tue Apr 28, 06:17 PM
John Clayton, of ESPN, reports the Arizona Cardinals have released RB Edgerrin James, according to a source.
Footballguys view: The handwriting has been on the wall for a while now. When the Cardinals selected both Chris Wells and LaRod Stephens-Howling it was apparent that they were headed in a different direction with their RB corps. Age and injuries seem to have taken their toll on James, but he put up decent numbers in week 17 and on the Cardinals playoff run. He may have to wait until injuries hit in training camp to catch on with another team, and even though he's old there may still be a couple of good games left in those legs. |
Cardinals | James could be released soon Mon Apr 27, 09:53 AM
Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic, reports the Arizona Cardinals are expected to release RB Edgerrin James prior to the team's mandatory minicamp. The Cardinals selected two running backs in the NFL Draft and now have five backs on the roster, excluding James.
Footballguys view: With the selection of Chris Wells and LaRod Stephens-Howling the Cardinals clearly felt that their RB corps needed an upgrade. Edgerrin James could be released, and with his age/durability questions he may have to wait until injuries hit in training camp to catch on with another team. |
Cardinals | Edge almost out of time in Arizona? Sat Apr 25, 07:22 PM
