NFL | Brandon Jacobs takes shot at Jim Harbaugh    Thu Jan 23, 12:41 PM

Retired RB Brandon Jacobs had some choice words to say about his former head coach, San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. 'He is a b---, and that's why he's never won anything,' Jacobs said.

Footballguys view: Tell us how you really feel Brandon. Harbaugh is known as an ornery cuss, and that rubs some people the wrong way.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs retires    Thu Jan 2, 10:39 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs has announced his retirement from professional football.

Footballguys view: Jacobs has had knee problems over the last few years, and isn't the same player he used to be. The former Auburn (and Southern Illinois) back finishes his pro career with 5,096 yards rushing and 64 total touchdowns.

Giants | More on Brandon Jacobs' surgery    Tue Dec 31, 08:38 AM

Updating previous reports, New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) had a cartilage graft transplanted into his left knee. The cartilage came from a cadaver of a 16-year-old boy. No NFL player has ever undergone the rare surgery before.

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) is uncertain on if he will return. Jacobs will need four months to recover from knee surgery.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs has knee surgery    Thu Dec 12, 04:11 AM

A photo of New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) in a hospital before knee surgery was tweeted from his Twitter account Wednesday, Dec. 11. Jacobs said recently that he would likely need his knee 'cleaned out.' He's battled knee issues since 2008, and the issue plagued him for much of this season.

Footballguys view: With Andre Brown running well and Peyton Hillis able to get the short yards, the Giants won't miss Jacobs. Brown gets an uptick because Hillis won't steal carries and touchdowns the way Jacobs seemed to and should serve as a low-end RB1 or a great RB2. Hillis is a "what the heck flex" at best.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs wants to return    Tue Dec 10, 09:11 PM

Updating a previous report, New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) is already pushing to return to the team in 2014, and he indicated that the team would be his first choice over any of the other 31 clubs. 'Listed, there is no place in the (NFL) that I'd rather be than right here at 1925 Giants Drive,' Jacobs said Tuesday, Dec. 10, after landing on season-ending Injured Reserve. 'Nowhere. We could've went 0-16 and I would be happy and smiling in this locker room because I'm a Giant at heart, I love the organization, I love the fans, I love that 'ny'. So there's not a better place for me. I'd rather be here than go somewhere and be undefeated. There is where I belong.'

Footballguys view: We're unsure if the Giants will bring Jacobs back right away. They could add him much later in the offseason process, or even in training camp if he's still available. With his mileage and durability problems we doubt there would be several teams lining up to sign him.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs lands on IR    Tue Dec 10, 09:10 PM

The New York Giants placed RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) on the season-ending Injured Reserve list Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Footballguys view: Without Jacobs in the lineup we'll see more of Peyton Hillis. He'll continue to serve as the primary backup and goal line back behind Andre Brown.

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) and CB Trumaine McBride (groin) are traveling with the team for their Week 14 game. Jacobs is listed as doubtful for the game while McBride is listed as questionable.

Footballguys view: Jacobs should be back on the field this week. This means we could see fewer carries for Peyton Hillis. Jacobs may also steal a goal line carry or two away from Andre Brown.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs doubtful    Fri Dec 6, 01:45 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 6, and is doubtful for Week 14.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs expects to practice Friday    Thu Dec 5, 08:50 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) said he plans to participate in practice Friday, Dec. 6, after sitting out practice Thursday, Dec. 5.

Footballguys view: Jacobs' knee has been an issue since he had a small resurgence while David Wilson and Andre Brown were both out. Even if Andre Brown goes down, it will probably keep him from being any more than a desperation play for the remainder of this season.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs not practicing    Thu Dec 5, 12:32 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) was not participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 5.

Footballguys view: It's better for Andre Brown owners if Jacobs is out, as he is always a threat to vulture touchdowns. If Jacobs plays he'll mostly hurt Peyton Hillis, who you shouldn't be playing anyway.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs practicing    Wed Dec 4, 11:07 AM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) is practicing Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Footballguys view: Jacobs may be able to get back on the field this week. If he plays then he'll reduce the fantasy value of Peyton Hillis. Jacobs could also cut into the value of Andre Brown as the bulking veteran back is a touchdown vulture.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs ruled out    Fri Nov 29, 02:50 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) did not practice Friday, Nov. 29, and has been ruled out for Week 13

Footballguys view: Jacobs ran well last week, but he'll give way to Peyton Hillis as the backup running back. Andre Brown becomes a must-start RB1 with no goal line vulture hovering over him.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs does not practice    Thu Nov 28, 01:43 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Giants | RB roles clearer    Fri Nov 22, 05:57 PM

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin doesn't expect to change things up when it comes to the roles of his running backs. Last week against the Green Bay Packers, RB Andre Brown was the lead back with RB Brandon Jacobs serving as the goal-line and short-yardage option. Brown had 18 carries for 75 percent of the workload, with Jacobs having five touches. RB Michael Cox will likely continue to be used on special teams, meaning RB Peyton Hillis would be inactive for the second straight week.

Footballguys view: Brown is facing a Cowboys defense that is without two starting linebackers, including defensive MVP Sean Lee. They gave up huge games to all three Saints running backs in Week 10, so Brown is almost a must play against Dallas.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs questionable    Fri Nov 15, 01:54 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring, knee) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 15, and is questionable.

Footballguys view: Jacobs might not be healthy enough to play this week, but once he is close to 100%, he should be the clear #2 running back behind a #1 (Andre Brown) who has never stayed healthy for long during his pro career.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs practices    Thu Nov 14, 12:19 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring, knee) was participating in practice Thursday, Nov. 14. Jacobs may be listed as a limited participant.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs doubtful    Fri Nov 8, 02:00 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring, knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 8, and is doubtful for Week 10.

Footballguys view: Jacobs doesn't seem to getting over his hamstring woes, leaving Peyton Hillis as the running back to own for the Giants if Andre Brown goes down. Brown has never stayed healthy for long, so don't write off Hillis as a handy player to have on your bench.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs not practicing    Thu Nov 7, 12:35 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) is not participating in start of practice Thursday, Nov. 7. Jacobs was on the side riding a bike.

Footballguys view: Jacobs was already marginalized and will only become moreso with Andre Brown returning. Even if he plays, he's too dangerous to start.

Giants | Peyton Hillis likely to be big part of Week 10 plans    Wed Nov 6, 11:38 PM

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis is expected to be a big part of the team's plan for Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders. Hillis is expected to be the primary option, with RBs Andre Brown and Brandon Jacobs sprinkled into the equation. 'I'm pretty sure they are going to switch us in, switch us out,' Brown said Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Footballguys view: Andre Brown is just getting back into playing shape and Brandon Jacobs has run well but is limited in upside--Hillis has performed well in his first two games with the team and given that it sounds like the Giants are easing Brown back in, should have one more week of Flex value.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs limited in practice    Wed Nov 6, 03:06 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Footballguys view: Jacobs is getting close to full health, and he was very good before going down with a hamstring injury. Andre Brown has never stayed healthy for long, so Jacobs could have value again before the season is over.

Giants | David Wilson not cleared yet    Mon Nov 4, 04:24 PM

Updating a previous report, an MRI showed RB David Wilson (neck) significant improvement in his recovery from a neck injury, but he has not been cleared to resume football activities at this point. Wilson will undergo another evaluation in a few weeks.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to watch this situation closely. Wilson could miss several more weeks or miss the rest of the year. Either way in shallow bench leagues it's time to consider different options. The Giants are getting Andre Brown back and are going to have a package of plays for him in Week 10.

Giants | Andre Brown fully healthy    Tue Oct 29, 07:25 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) is 100 percent healthy and recovered from his fractured left leg, but he said he will wear a protective shin guard 'for the rest of my career.' Head coach Tom Coughlin said he's 'going to have to wait and see' when Brown will return. It's unclear if RBs Peyton Hillis and Brandon Jacobs will have a roster spot when Brown returns.

Footballguys view: The Giants have said they will keep Hillis around as he ran with toughness during his two games with the team so far. We'll see if that actually happens when Brown is back on the active roster. Fantasy owners need to grab Brown on the waiver wire now that he's close to returning.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs expects to play after bye    Mon Oct 28, 02:25 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) said he injured hamstring is feeling good and expects to play after the team's Week 9 bye. He said he could have played Week 8 but wanted to be cautious.

Footballguys view: The return of Jacobs will negatively impact the amount of touches for Peyton Hillis. They're both low end flex plays with upside in TD premium leagues.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs inactive    Sun Oct 27, 11:21 AM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) has been declared inactive for Week 8.

Footballguys view: Peyton Hillis is a low-end RB2/Flex start, although he was reasonably productive as the starter on Monday night. At the very least he is worth a waiver wire pickup this week to keep him out of enemy hands in a poor week at running back.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs travels with teams    Sat Oct 26, 07:51 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) traveled with the team for their Week 8 game, which indicates he has a chance to play. He is still listed as doubtful for the game.

Footballguys view: We're unlikely to see Jacobs on Sunday against the Eagles. That means more from the "Albino Rhino" Peyton Hillis.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs doubtful    Fri Oct 25, 01:45 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) is officially listed as doubtful for Week 8. RBs Peyton Hillis and Michael Cox will split repetitions for the second straight week.

Giants | Peyton Hillis ready for bigger role    Fri Oct 25, 12:51 PM

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis said he's ready to take on a bigger role in the running game after making his season debut in Week 7. 'Most definitely,' Hillis said. 'I think it always takes a couple weeks to get back into shape when you're on the couch for five weeks. I'm thinking that, no matter what they ask me to do, my body is going to be in a lot better shape than it was last week, for sure.'

Footballguys view: Hillis is actually a solid RB2 play this week with the Eagles being a generous defense and Hillis already showing that he can produce well with volume last week. The running back position is pretty thin this week, so Hillis might be able to help you.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs not committing to return    Thu Oct 24, 03:09 PM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring), who missed practice for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 24, said it 'feels good' but won't commit to returning in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles because 'hamstrings are tricky.'

Footballguys view: Hamstrings are tricky and so is Jacobs. Just when he gets useful, he shows his age and gets hurt. He has to make his mind up soon or else he could be relegated to the scrap heap when Andre Brown returns. Peyton Hillis will get the start and the bulk of the carries this weekend against a sweet Eagles matchup.

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

Giants | Brandon Jacobs not a fan of some fantasy owners    Thu Oct 24, 12:03 AM

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs said Wednesday, Oct. 23, that some people take fantasy football way too seriously. The statement comes just one day after he received death threats. 'To the people that take it too serious, us as football players don't owe you nothing,' Jacobs said. 'It's up to (you) to manage your team the way you want to manage it. The only owners and general managers I owe anything to is Jerry Reese, the Mara and Tisch family. Everybody else, I don't concern myself with.'

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) will not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

New York Giants RB Michael Cox carried 11 times for just 23 yards in a start in Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings Monday, Oct. 21. Cox started with RBs Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) and David Wilson (neck) sidelined.
