Rams | Jackson rushes for 131 yards Week 10 Sun Nov 15, 05:31 PM
The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson rushed for 131 yards and one touchdown on 26 carries in Week 10.
| Our view: Jackson was a machine in the first half, regularly churning out gains of five or more yards against the suspect Saints' run defense. He's possibly the most impressive rusher this season given his surrounding cast. |

Rams | Jackson runs for 149 yards Week 8 Sun Nov 1, 05:42 PM
The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson had 22 carries for a season-high 149 yards with a touchdown Week 8. The touchdown was the Rams' first rushing touchdown of the season.
| Our view: The Rams continually fed Jackson the ball and he broke the game open in the second half with multiple long runs, including a 25 yard game winning touchdown run in the fourth quarter. |

Rams | Jackson closing in on a rushing record Mon Oct 26, 12:25 PM
Mike Sando, of ESPN.com, reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson needs 81 more rushing yards and no touchdowns to break the record set by former NFL RB Tiki Barber (715) for the most rushing yards to open a regular season without scoring a touchdown.

The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson had 23 carries for a season-high 134 yards during the team's Week 7 game.
| Our view: Jackson could finish in the top three overall in rushing yards on an 0-16 team this year. |

Rams | Assured Jackson they never tried to trade him Wed Oct 21, 12:07 PM
Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports the St. Louis Rams front office spoke with RB Steven Jackson prior to the trade deadline to assure him that the team never considered moving Jackson despite rumors to the contrary.
| Our view: Jackson is obviously a big part of the team's plans this season and in seasons to come. |

Rams | Jackson productive in Week 6 Sun Oct 18, 06:38 PM
The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson rushed for 50 yards on 16 carries and caught six passes for 78 yards in Week 6.
| Our view: Jackson again had difficulty finding running room but the Rams' offense continues to feature him on all downs. |

Rams | Jackson not happy about production so far Fri Oct 16, 11:05 AM
Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson is not happy about his production so far this season because he has not reached the end zone yet. 'It's been a rough one in my opinion,' Jackson said. 'I've yet to reach the end zone. I have two fumbles on the year. ... So although I've been racking up yards, I've yet to lead this team to victory. And those kinds of mistakes that I've had in the last five games won't help.' Jackson currently ranks fourth in the league with 451 rushing yards.

Rams | Jackson leads team in rushing, receiving Week 3 Sun Sep 27, 06:49 PM
The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson had 27 carries for 117 yards Week 3. He also caught five passes for 46 receiving yards.
| Our view: Jackson started slowly with Mark Bulger struggling and rookie OT Jason Brown out with a knee injury, stutter stepping while looking for a hole to get through. Later in the game, Jackson found more room to run and was more decisive. He was also his usual productive self as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. |

Rams | Jackson runs for 104 yards Week 2 Sun Sep 20, 05:39 PM
The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson had 17 carries for 104 yards during the team's Week 2 game. He also caught four passes, but he managed just 15 receiving yards.
| Our view: After a slow start, Jackson ripped off a number of long runs (including one 22 yarder that was called back). Jackson remains a threat regardless of his surrounding cast. |

Rams | S. Jackson fined $5,000 Fri Sep 18, 10:21 PM
Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson has been fined $5,000 for unnecessary roughness during the team's Week 1 game.
| Our view: You have to like it when an RB is the one getting fined for being too physical. |

Rams | Looking to run the ball more in Week 2 Fri Sep 18, 10:19 AM
Steve Korte, of the News-Democrat, reports the St. Louis Rams are looking to run the ball more after RB Steven Jackson had just 16 carries in Week 1. Jackson expects opposing defenses to stack the box with eight men all season as the team tries to break in a young receiving corps. 'That's going to be my mindset for all 16 games that we have,'' Jackson said. 'I anticipate defenses going with eight men in the box for the rest of the year because we are just so young at the receiver position.''
| Our view: The Seahawks stacked eight in the box to stop Steven Jackson, and force Marc Bulger to try and beat them through the air. We expect other defenses to follow suit, so it could be tough to find running room for the Rams. If the Rams do get behind, and are forced into airing it out, Steven Jackson is a good receiver out of the backfield and can rack up yardage in the passing game. Jackson is the Rams best offensive weapon, and the team will get him the ball in a number of ways. |

Rams | Offense fails to score Week 1 Sun Sep 13, 07:57 PM
The Associated Press reports the St. Louis Rams offense managed just 13 first downs and failed to score during the team's Week 1 game. QB Marc Bulger was 17-for-36 for 191 yards while getting sacked three times, and RB Steven Jackson ran for 67 yards off of 16 carries.
| Our view: The Rams did get a TD on a blocked FG that was overturned when replay officials determined they had too many men on the field. |

Rams | Jackson to be used like Westbrook Wed Sep 9, 10:50 AM
Bill Coats, from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports running back Steven Jackson will be deployed much the same way the Eagles use Brian Westbrook, as a dual-threat rusher-receiver. That would seem to be a good fit for Jackson, who in some sets lines up in the slot or even splits out as a wide receiver. "A guy like Steven who's versatile inside and outside, that's what we're going to take advantage of," Kyle Boller said. "If we can get a mismatch with him on linebackers and safeties ... good night."
| Our view: Jackson is a proven receiver out of the backfield, and new offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur was a long time Eagles assistant. The Rams could feature Jackson more than ever before because their passing game lacks playmakers outside of Donnie Avery. |

Rams | Jackson quiet Friday Sat Aug 22, 09:19 AM
The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson had just three carries for 10 yards in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 21.
| Our view: We're sure his owners are fine with Jackson being quiet in the preseason if it means that he'll be completely healthy entering the regular season. |

Rams | Jackson hits the weights hard during offseason Sun Aug 2, 01:54 PM
Steve Korte, of the Belleville News-Democrat, reports that RB Steven Jackson took weight training more seriously this offseason. "The only thing I really did differently than I have in the past is I really approached weight training a lot more aggressive than I have in the past,'' Jackson said. "The past three or four years I really focused on trying to just work conditioning and make sure my lungs are strong, but this year I really focused on weight lifting and making sure I am strong.' Asked whether he feels leaner, Jackson said, "My body fat is still five percent. But, I do feel leaner."
| Our view: That should help keep you from letting any injuries concerns about Jackson keep you from taking him in the to 5-7 picks. He is one of the best two or three backs in the game, injuries and poor offense in St. Louis the last two years have kept his year-end stats from showing that. |

Rams | Jackson focused on aggressive weight training Fri Jul 31, 09:01 PM
St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson said the only thing he really changed during the offseason was hitting the weights more aggressive than he had in the past. 'My body fat is still five percent. ... But I do feel leaner,' Jackson said.
| Our view: Jackson has missed four games each of the last two seasons, and has let down fantasy owners that were expecting him to match his numbers from 2006. The Rams want to feature a run-heavy offense with Jackson leading the way. If he can stay healthy he could finally live up to the hype, and even if the Rams have to play from behind he is still a good fantasy option because he's a great receiver out of the backfield. |

Rams | Jackson feels team has strong backfield Fri Jul 31, 09:00 PM
St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson said he feels the team has a strong backfield this year. 'There is going to be some good competition for the guys that are fighting for positions on this team,' Jackson said.
| Our view: Today in practice Kenneth Darby was running with the second-team unit. The competition behind Steven Jackson is wide open with Darby, Antonio Pittman, Samkon Gado, and rookie Chris Ogbannaya all striving for playing time. |

Rams | Jackson felt first day of camp was smooth Fri Jul 31, 09:00 PM
St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson said there was not a lot of mental mistakes on the field Friday, July 31, and noted everything went really smooth.
| Our view: Jackson said he could tell the transition from the OTAs was carrying over to the practice field in training camp. He is excited to put the pads on right away and start taking some early hits. 'I just hope everyone has their chinstraps buckled,' Jackson said. |

Rams | Incognito out to change his ways Sun Jul 12, 04:42 PM
Dan Arkush, of Pro Football Weekly, reports that Rams OL Richie Incognito has "set the pace" in the program established by new strength and conditioning coach Rock Gullickson (who has produced a positive vibe according to team sources), and Incognito has made a positive first impression on new head coach Steve Spagnuolo, who "likes his linemen to be as physical as the rules allow."
| Our view: Incognito also said he wants to be a "more mature player", which is important because he's one of the worst players in the league at getting dumb personal fouls. Incognito is a terrific run blocker, and the addition of two Jasons - second overall pick OT Jason Smith, and marquee free-agent C Jason Brown (formerly of the Ravens) should help Steven Jackson find more room to run this year. |

Rams | Football Outsiders predicts 48% chance of winning season Sun Jul 12, 11:19 AM
Mike Tanier, of the New York Times, reports that Football Outsiders statistical model that predicted bounce-back years for the 2007 Packers and 2008 Ravens give the St. Louis Rams a 48% chance of winning nine or more games this year. Tanier cites the 2008 Rams low percentage of forced fumbles recovered (5 out of 17), poor red zone running (a slight improvement can go a long way), and numerous injuries to starters as factors that could go the other direction in 2009 and make the Rams a winning team.
| Our view: We aren't completely on board, but we have to admit that for about three or four games in the middle of 2008, the Rams looked like one of the most competitive teams in the NFC before they seemed to wilt again late in the season. Steve Spagnuolo should create an aggressive attack-based defense, and we know that Steven Jackson is one of the best RBs in the league. New offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur should make him the focus of the offense. The real key is probably the health of Marc Bulger. If Bulger can play at least 14 games, expect Donnie Avery to have a breakout year. |

Rams | Jackson expects to be better prepared this season Sat Jun 6, 09:24 AM
Bill Coats, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson said his goal this season is to be a more complete running back, and believes he can attain that goal in part to better coaching.
| Our view: 'I'm working on being a complete running back,' Jackson said. 'I've said that in the past, but this year I'm really getting detailed coaching.' Jackson added that he is stronger and is learning how to run routes better. |

Rams | S. Jackson looking to become a complete running back Fri Jun 5, 01:17 PM
St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson said he is definitely a lot stronger now after hitting the weights a lot more this year.
| Our view: 'I hope my speed don't leave,' Jackson said. 'I hope I'm able to still use that. Really, to be honest with you, I'm really working on being a complete running back.' Jackson said he has spent time working with the wide receivers to become a better route runner. In regards to his health, he realizes it's talked about a lot. 'Of course I want to be healthy, but I don't think it's really something you can prepare for. A torn groin or a torn hamstring -- it just happens,' Jackson said. |
Rams | S. Jackson impressed with backup backs Fri Jun 5, 01:17 PM
St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson said he has been impressed with backup RBs Kenneth Darby and Antonio Pittman.
| Our view: 'I think all the guys are able to run routes and it really allows us to set up different matchups. We can go two backs on the field sometimes,' Jackson said. Antonio Pittman was rated as high as the #2 RB by some in the scouting community when he came out of college in 2007. While not the biggest runner he has deceptive strength between the tackles and has the agility and balance to run through arm tackles consistently. Kenneth Darby is an efficient runner that has good instincts and the quick burst to get through small holes. Both Darby and Pittman started their careers elsewhere but so far they've been fairly impressive during their time in St. Louis. The Rams want a run-heavy offense in 2009 featuring Steven Jackson, and his backup could see spot duty when Jackson needs a breather. |

Rams | Steven Jacksons receiving numbers could improve Thu Jun 4, 08:31 PM
Mike Sando, from ESPN.com, reports that Steven Jackson says he's focused on becoming a better route runner and receiver. His new offensive coordinator, Pat Shurmur, was with the Eagles when running back Bryant Westbrook averaged 84.7 receptions per 16 regular-season games over a five-year period ending last season. "I'm flanking out wide with the receivers and learning to run routes." Jackson said after practice on Thursday.
| Our view: The Rams want a run-heavy offense featuring Steven Jackson but have very little depth at the WR position. Donnie Avery and the unproven Keenan Burton are projected as the starters this year, with Laurent Robinson working as the 3rd receiver. Jackson is an all-purpose threat and will stay on the field whether the Rams are playing with the lead or not. If he stays healthy he could be in for a top 10 fantasy RB season. |
