Browns | Brandon Jackson cut    Mon Sep 2, 04:09 AM

The Cleveland Browns have released RB Brandon Jackson, who was expected to be the No. 2 running back entering this season.

Footballguys view: This was a bit of a surprise. Jackson looked like the RB2 behind Trent Richardson but is now out of a job. We'll see Chris Ogbonnaya as the primary backup behind Richardson now.

Browns | Brandon Jackson now No. 2 RB    Tue Aug 27, 09:22 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Brandon Jackson is now the team's primary backup to RB Trent Richardson after the loss of both RBs Montario Hardesty (knee) and Dion Lewis (fibula) to the season-ending Injured Reserve list. 'Brandon is a reliable guy,' head coach Rob Chudzinski said Tuesday, Aug. 27. 'I have no issues with Brandon. Trent will be the guy we're counting on in a lot of different ways. We have to do a good job of keeping him fresh throughout the course of the season.'

Footballguys view: As the backup to Trent Richardson we may see Jackson get a few snaps here or there during the season. Richardson is incredibly talented but with a heavy workload will need a breather from time to time. We've also seen Richardson slowed down by nagging injuries as a rookie.

Browns | Brandon Jackson thinks he can help as receiver    Fri Aug 23, 06:44 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Brandon Jackson said he believes he can help the team as a receiver out of the backfield. 'I feel it's a strongsuit for me,' Jackson said. 'I'm already past the first level and that's the defensive line. So being able to put me up against a linebacker or the secondary, I'm loving it.'

Browns | Montario Hardesty to miss two games    Thu Aug 15, 07:09 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Montario Hardesty (knee) will miss at least the first two weeks of the regular season after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday, Aug. 15. Hardesty has had surgery on both of the anterior cruciate ligaments in both of his knees already. He's missed most of training camp with a hamstring issue and a dislocated right thumb earlier this week.

Footballguys view: Hardesty has a long and storied injury history dating back to his days in college at Tennessee. The Browns could decide to cut Hardesty and move on with other options behind starter Trent Richardson. RBs Dion Lewis and Brandon Jackson are in the mix for the primary backup job.

Browns | Two RBs could compete for one spot    Sat Jul 20, 11:11 AM

Cleveland Browns RBs Dion Lewis and Brandon Jackson may compete for one roster spot during training camp.

Footballguys view: We should see Montario Hardesty as the primary backup behind star RB Trent Richardson. Lewis and Jackson are likely competing for the final spot in the RB corps. Lewis is built lower to the ground and runs with good balance between the tackles. Jackson has more experience and can be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. This competition could come down to special teams play.

Browns | Re-sign Brandon Jackson    Thu May 16, 05:10 PM

The Cleveland Browns re-signed RB Brandon Jackson Thursday, May 16, to a one-year deal. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: If Jackson can stay healthy he gives the Browns a versatile veteran behind starter Trent Richardson. Jackson will compete with Montario Hardesty, Dion Lewis, and Chris Ogbonnaya for pecking order on the depth chart.

Browns | Brandon Jackson not expected back    Sun Feb 10, 02:19 PM

The Cleveland Browns are not expected to re-sign impending free-agent RB Brandon Jackson this offseason.

Footballguys view: The Browns could be in the market for a reserve RB via the draft or free agency. The offense should be centered around Trent Richardson and the team needs to build better depth behind backup Montario Hardesty.

The Cleveland Browns have declared LB Adrian Moten, RB Brandon Jackson, DL Ish Kitchen, OG Jarrod Shaw, TE Jordan Cameron, WR Mohamed Massaquoi, CB Tashaun Gipson inactive for Week 16.

Browns | Montario Hardesty, Brandon Jackson work with starters     Mon Sep 3, 12:15 PM

Cleveland Browns RBs Montario Hardesty and Brandon Jackson saw some time with the first-team offense in practice Monday, Sept. 3.

Footballguys view: Trent Richardson is going to be eased back into action as he returns from his preseason knee injury. That will lead to an increased role for both Hardesty and Jackson until Richardson is back to full strength.

Browns | Backup RB battle to be heated    Sun Jul 22, 11:54 PM

The only real competition at the running back position for the Cleveland Browns is to determine who will become the primary backup to RB Trent Richardson. The team likely will favor whoever proves to be the best receiving threat and pass protector, especially on third down. Contributions on special teams might be a deciding factor, too. Head coach Pat Shurmur said RBs Montario Hardesty and Brandon Jackson would both play this year, but it is uncertain who will have a more prominent role. RB Chris Ogbonnaya is also in the mix, and his ability on special teams will help his cause should one of the others falter or suffer injury.

Footballguys view: We like Hardesty's natural ability but he's been unable to stay healthy during most of his college and pro career. Jackson is looking to make a comeback and has good versatility because of his receiving ability.

Browns | Brandon Jackson making strides    Sun Jul 8, 10:50 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Brandon Jackson is healthy, and he has reportedly established himself as the No. 2 back in the depth chart battle with RBs Montario Hardesty and Chris Ogbonnaya. Jackson showed solid blocking and catching skills, as well, which is what the coaches expect in the West Coast offense.

Footballguys view: Jackson is a nice fit for the West Coast offense because of his versatile skill set. However, we think Hardesty (if healthy) could win the backup job behind Trent Richardson because he has a more elite skill set. Jackson could stick on the final roster as the third RB if he can beat out Ogbonnaya.

Browns | Unlikely to keep four RBs    Sat Jul 7, 11:33 PM

Cleveland Browns RBs Brandon Jackson and Chris Ogbonnaya might be fighting it out for the No. 3 running back job behind rookie RB Trent Richardson and RB Montario Hardesty in training camp and the preseason. It is unlikely the Browns will keep four running backs on the roster, so Jackson and Ogbonnaya might not make the roster. However, if Hardesty suffers an injury, Jackson might end up as the primary backup with Ogbonnaya as the No. 3.

Footballguys view: We'd give the edge to 'Silent G' here. Ogbonnaya is a better all-purpose runner and has proven he can be effective between the tackles.

Browns | Trent Richardson to see plenty of touches    Tue Jun 5, 02:46 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson figures to see the majority of touches in the team's backfield this year, but head coach Pat Shurmur said there will be 'plenty of reps to go around' for the other running backs, namely RBs Montario Hardesty and Brandon Jackson. However, Hardesty could be battling for a roster spot and Jackson must prove he's finally healthy.

Footballguys view: Richardson's skill set is comparable to Adrian Peterson. Like ADP, we expect Richardson to be a true workhorse star RB at the pro level. Richardson has a nice size/speed combination and runs angry. He'll run over defenders, but has subtle moves to evade in the open field. We like him as a low end RB1 with upside. His current ADP is the beginning of round two in standard 12-team leagues.

Browns | Brandon Jackson recovered from injury    Sun Jun 3, 03:01 PM

Cleveland Browns RB Brandon Jackson is fully recovered from the toe injury that cut his 2011 season short.

Footballguys view: According to Cleveland reporters Jackson has looked fast and explosive during OTAs this offseason. Even if he's fully healthy Jackson will play only as a change of pace RB and receiver out of the backfield behind rookie superstar Trent Richardson.

Browns | Brandon Jackson may go on IR    Sat Sep 3, 12:48 PM

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said RB Brandon Jackson (toe) may be placed on Injured Reserve.

Footballguys view: Placing Jackson on IR would make the Browns incredibly thin at the RB position. They may take a look at a recent cut like Jalen Parmele or Tyrell Sutton.

Browns | Brandon Jackson headed for IR?    Tue Aug 30, 11:21 PM

Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert said Tuesday, Aug. 30, that RB Brandon Jackson (toe) might be headed for the season-ending Injured Reserve list. 'We're still kind of waiting on Brandon,' Heckert said. 'He's not going to need surgery. It's just a matter of when he's ready.' Heckert said a decision will be ade based on 'who else is available.' Head coach Pat Shurmur added that Jackson is 'in a cast, and it's settling down.'

Footballguys view: The Browns may well be waiting to see not how Jackson's toe is doing, but instead what else they can get at RB after final cuts before making a decision about Jackson's 2011 status.

Browns | Brandon Jackson out for a while    Fri Aug 26, 05:28 PM

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said RB Brandon Jackson (toe) will be out for a significant amount of time because of his toe injury.

Browns | Montario Hardesty looks good     Tue Aug 23, 10:13 AM

Cleveland Browns RB Montario Hardesty (knee) is receiving all the first-team reps in practice Tuesday, Aug. 23, with RBs Peyton Hillis (hamstring) and Brandon Jackson (toe) out. He looks to be 100 percent. He's cutting well and showing a quick burst to the hole.

Footballguys view: Hardesty is one of the most physically gifted RBs in the league today. Injuries have set back his pro career to this point, but if healthy he is an elite level runner. The Browns would like to use him as a complementary back behind Hillis, which could help keep both backs fresh all year long.

Browns | Brandon Jackson injured    Sat Aug 20, 06:29 AM

Cleveland Browns RB Brandon Jackson (toe) suffered a turf toe injury Friday, Aug. 19, in preseason play against the Detroit Lions.

Footballguys view: Turf toe injuries are known to slow players down quite a bit. It's an injury that can linger and cause problems for a few days or a few weeks. The Browns have a banged up RB corps behind starter Peyton Hillis and could be looking to add more depth via the waiver wire soon.

Browns | Brandon Jackson agrees to terms    Thu Jul 28, 08:51 PM

The Cleveland Browns have reached an agreement with free-agent RB Brandon Jackson (Packers) on a two-year, $4.5 million deal.

Footballguys view: This is a strange signing as the Browns have two strong running backs. Montario Hardesty is injury-prone and Peyton Hillis has the Madden curse, so Jackson could have value later in the year.

Bengals | Brandon Jackson on radar    Wed Jul 27, 12:44 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals are showing interest in free-agent RB Brandon Jackson (Packers). The Green Bay Packers are interested in Jackson returning.

Steelers | Could have interest in RB Jackson    Tue Jun 21, 07:01 PM

Matt Williamson, from ESPN.com and Scouts Inc, reports via Twitter that he could see the Steelers having interest in RB Brandon Jackson.

Footballguys view: Jackson is considered 50/50 to return to the Packers and may move on in free agency. The Steelers are in need of a change of pace receiving back behind Rashard Mendenhall. They'll likely be interested in guys like Jackson, Tiki Barber, and Reggie Bush (if available).

Packers | RB Jackson considered 50/50 to return    Mon Jun 20, 02:15 PM

Pete Dougherty, from the Green Bay Press Gazette, believes it's 50/50 for free agent Brandon Jackson to return to the Packers in 2011.

Footballguys view: The Packers are prepared to move on without Jackson in 2011. They selected a favorite of ours in RB Alex Green in the third-round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Green is a very good receiver out of the backfield and a tough runner between the tackles.

Packers | RB Jackson believes he can be a starter    Tue May 24, 01:00 PM

Kareem Copeland, from the Green Bay Press Gazette, reports potential unrestricted free agent RB Brandon Jackson would like to prove himself as a starter in 2011. "If it's here or there I want the opportunity to be the starter," Jackson said. "I'm not just taking third down. I'm not going to limit myself to just being a third down back. If it's in Green Bay or somewhere else, that's what I want to do. I feel like I've proven myself to be an every down back, a third down back - I can do it all. ... I'm willing to do what it takes to get a fair shot. A fair chance."

Footballguys view: Jackson led the team in rushing during the regular season, but saw his role diminished during the team's playoff run. He had only six carries in the postseason and none in the Super Bowl. The Packers seem more than content to move on with Ryan Grant, James Starks, and rookie Alex Green as their RBBC. Jackson is likely playing elsewhere in 2011, and will likely have to compete as a reserve runner in training camp.

Packers | Brandon Jackson could return    Mon May 16, 02:35 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Brandon Jackson, depending upon which set of free-agent rules are in place, could be available to leave on the free-agent market when the NFL lockout comes to an end. Jackson is a decent receiver and excels in blitz pickup, which is why he has become the typical third-down back for the Packers.

Footballguys view: Jackson can serve a role as the team's pass catching back in 2011 if he's a restricted free agent. Green Bay selected Alex Green in the third-round to eventually be the replacement for Jackson.

Packers | Five do not receive tender offers    Fri Mar 4, 07:49 PM

The Green Bay Packers did not tender contract offers to impending free agent RB Brandon Jackson, FB Korey Hall, WR James Jones, OL Jason Spitz and SS Atari Bigby, reports Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Footballguys view: Jackson and Jones should garner some interest when free agency is open. A team in need of a versatile RB could bring in Jackson as part of a RBBC. Jones has a good size/speed ratio but his hands are inconsistent. He should still get plenty of looks from teams wanting to upgrade their WR corps and add playmakers.

Green Bay Packers RB Brandon Jackson only received four carries in Week 13 because the team used their base offense and two-tight end packages and used RB James Starks more in those formations, reports Rob Demovsky, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. The Packers were expected to use more multiple receiver sets, which Jackson sees most of the snaps.
