The St. Louis Rams announced DT Chris Hovan (back) was held out of the team's night practice Tuesday, Aug. 3, because of back issues. He was able to take part in the team's earlier practice, but the Rams wanted him to rest his back for the night session.

St. Louis Rams DT Chris Hovan said he is willing any role the team gives to him this season, reports Bill Coats, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. 'Whatever [head coach Steve Spagnuolo] asks of me, I'm there to do. If it's a role player, that's fine. How many reps doesn't really matter to me. Whatever situation that he calls upon, I'll be there for Coach,' Hovan said.

The New York Giants could express an interest in soon-to-be free-agent DT Chris Hovan (Buccaneers), reports Ralph Vacchiano, of The New York Daily News. Hovan is set to be released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Giants defensive line coach Rob Nunn was the co-defensive line coach with the Bucs last year.

Footballguys view: Hovan is looking to come to training camp at around 310 pounds. Hovan said, "I'm never going to be a guy that carries 330 pounds. But I can hold 305 pounds or 310 pounds and hold it well, and that's what I'm trying to get to." In new coordinator Jim Bates' defensive scheme the defensive tackles have to be big enough to keep offensive lineman from getting to the second level and taking on linebackers. |
