Bengals | Mohamed Sanu a faster T.J. Houshmandzadeh?    Wed May 2, 11:41 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals think third-round draft pick WR Mohamed Sanu is a slightly bigger and a little faster version of free-agent WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Raiders).

Footballguys view: Sanu may not be the fastest WR in this draft class, but he's a fantastic route runner with soft hands and smooth run after the catch ability. He's position versatile as he can line up outside or in the slot. Sanu could be the starting WR opposite superstar A.J. Green.

Raiders | Two players support Hue Jackson    Wed Jan 11, 01:14 AM

Oakland Raiders WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh and DL Richard Seymour said Tuesday, Jan. 10, that head coach Hue Jackson did not lose the team down the stretch. 'No, not at all,' Seymour said. 'I didn't hear any rumblings about that. I heard news reports make more of a deal about it than it actually was. I feel like Hue did a good job and made great strides as a coach.' Houshmandzadeh also had this to say: 'I don't think he lost the locker room, and I'd be eager to find a guy who didn't think he did a good job. I would be hard-pressed to find a guy who doesn't like Hue. I'll bet you San Diego, Kansas City and Denver like this move, because we would have been good next year with Hue.'

Raiders | Jacoby Ford has chemistry with Carson Palmer    Mon Nov 7, 03:18 PM

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders WR Jacoby Ford seems to have developed immediate chemistry with QB Carson Palmer after Week 9, when Ford caught five passes for 105 yards and a touchdown. 'I think we did really well with the things we worked on during the bye,' Ford said. 'He knew where he wanted the ball to be and I knew where I needed to be for us to make the completions.'

Footballguys view: The Raiders want to get Ford involved in a number of different ways. His speed and quick twitch ability is difficult to deal with. Even future Hall of Famer CB Champ Bailey had difficulty keeping up with Ford on Sunday.

Raiders | T.J. Houshmandzadeh already making impression    Fri Nov 4, 11:47 PM

Oakland Raiders WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh is already making an impression despite just joining the team Tuesday, Nov. 1. 'He understands concepts, he understands schemes, alignments, all the little things a lot of receivers overlook,' QB Carson Palmer said Friday, Nov. 4. 'He's a student of the game, and it's going to be a really big help, especially for these young guys to have him around. Just in the first day, they were kind of taken aback by how much he knows.'

Footballguys view: Houshmandzadeh may not be much of a fantasy factor anymore, but Carson Palmer is more comfortable with his old teammate around.

Raiders | Carson Palmer has not lost zip on throws     Thu Nov 3, 09:25 AM

Oakland Raiders WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh said QB Carson Palmer has not lost any velocity on his passes, contrary to popular belief. 'I noticed it, and it's a big difference,' Houshmandzadeh said of the zip on Palmer's passes. People on TV, they're like, 'Oh, he doesn't have the arm strength.' They don't know what they're talking about.'

Footballguys view: We'll see how Palmer looks against the Broncos this weekend. Outside of Champ Bailey the Broncos don't have a very good secondary. Palmer makes for a decent bye week filler at the QB position because of the matchup.

Raiders | Carson Palmer has praise for T.J. Houshmandzadeh     Thu Nov 3, 09:17 AM

Oakland Raiders QB Carson Palmer said WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh will add a lot of leadership and competitiveness to the receiving corps. 'T.J.'s always been a tremendous competitor,' Palmer said. 'He has a chip on his shoulder. He doesn't ever want to be covered, doesn't ever want to drop the ball, he doesn't ever want to lose a game and he'll do whatever it takes to make sure those things don't happen. But he's consistent. He's really another quarterback on the field. He knows more about offensive and defensive football than any non-quarterback I've ever been around.'

Raiders | T.J. Houshmandzadeh feels he will help     Thu Nov 3, 09:13 AM

Oakland Raiders WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh feels he will be able to add to the team's receiving corps as he will be able to work the middle of the field. 'With the guys they have, they're all fast,' Houshmandzadeh said, 'but they don't really have a guy who can work the middle of the field and can run routes. So I can bring that to the table. With those guys on the outside and the way Carson throws the ball and his ability to understand what a defense is trying to do, we can be really good if we put this thing together real fast.'

Footballguys view: We're not sure how Houshmadzadeh will fit in with the Raiders, but his chemistry with QB Carson Palmer will help. The Raiders have a good group of young receivers who are simply more talented than Houshmandzadeh. His presence will likely cut into the number of targets for Darrius Heyward-Bey and Denarius Moore.

Raiders | Carson Palmer didn't influence latest signing    Wed Nov 2, 06:48 PM

The Oakland Raiders might be interested in adding free-agent WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Ravens), pairing him with his former QB Carson Palmer from their days with the Cincinnati Bengals. That would only happen if Palmer fails to click with the current group of receivers.

Footballguys view: It's hard to know whether to give any more thought that there might be something to Dan Pompei's report that Chad Ochocinco might be on the roster bubble. Houshmandzadeh actually seems best suited to play Wes Welker's role at this point, so this is curious indeed.

Ravens | T.J. Houshmandzadeh believes he can shock people next season    Thu Jun 30, 02:54 PM

Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh said he believes he can shock some people with his play this season if he signs with the right team. 'The last two years have been the most disappointing years I've had. I know people will say I can't play no more. If I get to the right team, I'll shock a lot of people,' Houshmandzadeh said.

Footballguys view: We would be shocked if Houshmandzadeh got more than 25 catches this year. He's not the same player he used to be and won't attract that much attention as a free agent.

Bengals | T.J. Houshmandzadeh has confidence in Terrell Owens     Tue Jun 28, 11:13 AM

Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh said he was aware for months of the knee injury to Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent WR Terrell Owens (knee). Houshmandzadeh added he believes Owens will play this upcoming season. 'It's crazy, I've known about that for months,' Houshmandzadeh said. 'I didn't pry into his business. Hopefully, it's not too severe and he'll be back soon. He had a good year last year. I wouldn't ever count him out.'

Footballguys view: Owens is in great physical condition, but the body isn't as quick to recover when you get older. This injury could spell the end of T.O. in the NFL. He may be available sometime at the end of the season, and there may be teams interested at that time. However, last year he was healthy and had difficulty finding a job because of his attitude. The market for his services might be even softer this year.

The Baltimore Ravens may not look to re-sign WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh this offseason after taking WRs Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Houshmandzadeh isn't the same player he used to be and last year he dropped too many passes (especially in the playoffs). He could have trouble latching on with another team this year.

Free-agent WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Ravens) expressed an interest Tuesday, April 5, in re-signing with the Baltimore Ravens, his 2010 team, reports Ken Murray, of The Baltimore Sun.

'You like having veteran players too. It's not always possible to keep all those guys,' Harbaugh said. 'So I just don't know. We'll just have to see.'

Ravens | T.J. Houshmandzadeh questions role in offense    Fri Oct 1, 11:02 AM

Baltimore Ravens WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh is confused as to why he has not been a bigger part of the team's offense thus far, according to Dan Kolko, of MASNSports.com. 'It's different,' Houshmandzadeh said. 'I've got the offense, for the most part, I would say. There's certain things where I still make a mistake here or there, but for the most part, I know what's going on. I'm just not getting the opportunities, really, for whatever reason ... I told myself going in I wasn't expecting much the first three weeks, because obviously, they had a few things set in stone before I got here. And I'm not saying I'm expecting more this week, but I know the first few weeks I didn't expect a lot. Hopefully that will change, because that's why I came here. So, we'll see how it goes.' Houshmandzadeh has two catches for 31 yards, and has been targeted 11 times this season, including just once in Week 3.

Footballguys view: This is part of the reason the Seahawks were willing give Housh six million dollars to not play for them this year.

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh will see a significant amount of playing time in Week 1 even though he joined the team earlier this week, according to Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com.

Footballguys view: It's still hard to see Houshmandzadeh having significant value as the #3 wideout in this offense. If anything, Housh could keep Derrick Mason and/or Anquan Boldin from fulfilling their ADP more than being a good pick himself.

Ravens | Not concerned about lack of deep threat    Tue Sep 7, 02:38 AM

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh isn't that concerned about the lack of a deep threat among the Ravens wide receivers, reports The Baltimore Sun's Jamison Hensley. 'You know how you stretch the field? You run deep,' Harbaugh said. 'They've got to cover you - especially when you have guys running down the field that can catch the ball. So you run deep and you throw it to them. If they don't cover them, they'll catch the ball and they'll score. So I guess what I'm saying is I think it's a little overblown.   Bengals | T.J. Houshmandzadeh not a good fit    Sun Sep 5, 12:41 PM

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis thinks the team's current core of wide receivers may not be a good fit for free-agent WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Seahawks), reports Joe Reedy, of The Cincinnati Enquirer. 'If our team were constituted differently this would be a great spot for him to be back at. But right now where we are I don't know if it would be good for him,' Lewis said. Lewis spoke with Houshmandzadeh via text message Saturday, Sept. 4, and said he has fielded calls from other teams about his former receiver. 'I had people call and contact me as far as T.J. and I gave him a true, honest appraisal and a very honest one. T.J. helped us get where we are today. He's a good, young pro and a good man and he did a lot of good leading in this building,' Lewis added.

Footballguys view: Houshmandzadeh may not be a good fit on any team in the NFL if he doesn't know his role. He's no longer a good complementary receiver but still feels he should be a number one receiver in the league. Teams could hesitate to add Housh if his attitude doesn't improve.
