Jaguars | Holt surpasses 100 yards Week 6    Sun Oct 18, 06:28 PM

The Associated Press reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Torry Holt caught five passes for 101 yards in Week 6.

Our view: Holt and Mike Sims-Walker were both effective for David Garrard, as the Jaguar offense had little difficulty moving the ball against the Rams.

Jaguars | Holt showed frustration Week 2    Thu Sep 24, 07:18 PM

Michael C. Wright, of The Florida Times-Union, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Torry Holt showed signs of frustration with the play calling during the team's Week 2 game. 'I'm a competitor. So there's going to be times where I'm frustrated, and I'll voice that frustration,' Holt said. 'It wasn't at anybody, at any particular person or any particular thing. It was just a matter of wanting to win and expressing that. That's not really that big of a deal. I'm just trying to get us going and get us in the position where we can win.'

Jaguars | Three receivers see time with first team Monday    Mon Sep 7, 12:11 PM

CBSSports.com reports Jacksonville Jaguars WRs Torry Holt, Troy Williamson and Nate Hughes received reps with the first-team offense during practice Monday, Sept. 7.

Our view: With all the hoopla around the resurrection of Troy Williamson's career and the talented trio of rookie wide receivers from the Jags draft, Hughes emergence has gotten lost in the shuffle. He might be worth an addition in deep dynasty leagues if Mike Sims-Walker can't stay healthy once again this year.

Jaguars | Holt reveals that Dillard is his backup?    Mon Jul 20, 10:39 PM

Jacksonville WR Torry Holt, on his Twitter feed, taunted his followers with a post of "i'm ruining all your fantasy football chances by faking an injury so jarret dillard is the starter."

Our view: This is about as unofficial as it gets, but Holt didn't say Mike Thomas or Tiquan Underwood would get in the lineup if he faked an injury, so it might a clue as to where the depth chart stands at this moment.

Jaguars | Holt needs to carry the load    Wed Jul 15, 03:30 AM

Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Torry Holt will be counted on to be a dependable target for QB David Garrard. With a roster full of young, inexperienced wide receivers, Holt will need to be the primary option amongst the receivers until the other young wideouts are ready to pick up the slack.

Our view: Holt may catch 70-80 balls this year, but we think Ketchman is underestimating the rookie wideouts and Mike Walker. Walker can play a big role as the #2 if he can stay healthy. Look to last year's Pittsburgh game, when Walker caught six balls for over 100 yards, as a preview of what he can with a starting job. Mike Thomas and Jarett Dillard were two of the more polished wide receivers in the draft and they are closer to making an impact than typical first-year passcatchers.

Jaguars | Impressed with Holt so far    Mon Jun 22, 11:44 AM

Vito Stellino, of The Florida Times-Union, reports the Jacksonville Jaguars believe WR Torry Holt will make a major impact both on and off the field this season. 'I think the one thing that Torry has brought is a level of trust for David (Garrard), so he's aware that at third-and-7, he's going to run more than seven yards. I think that'll be a good thing for David,' general manager Gene Smith said.

Our view: Holt also has been working with several of the team's young receivers this offseason like Mike Thomas, Jarett Dillard, and Tiquan Underwood. The Jaguars had a disappointing season last year, but with new - better weapons at WR, and an upgraded Offensive Line it should help David Garrard and company bounce back to their 2007 form.

Jaguars | Holt comes full circle    Sat Jun 20, 08:38 PM

Charlie Bernstein, from Jagnation.com, reports veteran receiver Torry Holt went from bright-eyed rookie to full blown superstar wideout, and during that time he earned seven Pro Bowl selections. In 2008, Torry's production dropped significantly as the Rams struggled mightily, both with their quarterback situation and in the win/loss department. Holt's 64 catches for 796 yards and three touchdowns were the lowest since his rookie season of 1999.

Our view: Holt learned from one of the best in the game, Isaac Bruce, and he now gets a chance to "pay it forward" to some very talented young receivers in Jacksonville. Being a mentor doesn't mean that Torry will not contribute, quite the contrary in fact according to Jags coordinator Dirk Koetter. "He's looked good," Koetter said. "He doesn't run like he once did, and when we became interested in Torry we watched a lot of film on him and Torry has explained to me that he knows how to take care of himself and be ready when the time comes. You've got to take him on his word on that." He should be a very positive influence on players like Jarett Dillard and Mike Thomas.

Bears | Pace tried to get Holt to sign    Sat May 9, 09:30 AM

Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears OT Orlando Pace said he tried until the last minute to get Jacksonville Jaguars WR Torry Holt to sign with the team while he was a free agent. 'We were working on that for a while,' Pace said of Holt. 'But I think it's a good fit for him in Jacksonville. He wanted to be in warm weather.'

Our view: The Bears have an unknown WR situation coming into the 2009 season. Torry Holt would've provided some stability and leadership to a group that needs to elevate their play now that Jay Cutler is the QB. Rookies Juaquin Iglesias, Johnny Knox, and Derek Kinder could push for playing time over Earl Bennett and Rashied Davis.

Jaguars | Holt, Walker and Northcutt enter as top three receivers    Fri May 1, 01:37 PM

Michael C. Wright, of The Times-Union, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WRs Torry Holt and Mike Walker will likely start minicamp as starters on the outside and WR Dennis Northcutt will work as the team's slot receiver in three receiver sets.

Our view: Torry Holt is a lock to be a week 1 starter as long as he is healthy. After Holt the entire depth chart is up in the air. Mike Walker looked better than Brandon Marshall during their time at UCF, but he has failed to stay healthy during his entire pro career. Northcutt is a savvy veteran, but how much does he have left in the tank?

Jaguars | Holt will help mentor but also focused on his own job    Fri May 1, 01:36 PM

Michael C. Wright, of The Times-Union, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Torry Holt plans to help mentor the team's young wide receivers but said he also has to focus on his job, too. Holt says people can't ask him to turn the team around, as he feels that would be unfair. 'What is fair is I can come in and be a pro, go about my job like I've always done. Hopefully, guys will see that, but into it and try to do the same thing,' Holt said. He noted he has to look at it as all of the younger receivers are coming in to take his job.

Jaguars | Holt says reports of his decline were false    Wed Apr 22, 07:47 PM

Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Torry Holt said reports of his decline have been exaggerated. Holt said, "A lot of that stuff about my knee and not being effective was all false. You never saw me missing games. I think it came down to us not being that good offensively. Everyone struggled." He added, "To be able to catch 64 passes in a disgruntled organization was actually pretty good. All this talk about my decline is false."

Our view: Torry Holt will likely never regain the form that we've seen from him in years past. However, it will be interesting to see if a change of scenery is just what the doctor ordered.

Jaguars | Holt has high expectations    Wed Apr 22, 09:50 AM

The Associated Press reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Torry Holt has high expectations entering the 2009 season with his new team. 'My goal is always 90-plus catches, 1,300-plus yards and 10-plus touchdowns,' Holt said. 'That's always been my goal, and those goals won't change. You have to set them pretty high to give yourself something to strive for and reach for. Now, will I reach those goals? Who knows. Do I have the potential to reach those goals? Absolutely. Will I be given those opportunities? I hope I will be given those opportunities in Jacksonville.'

Jaguars | Could still draft receiver at No. 8    Tue Apr 21, 08:55 AM

ESPN.com reports the Jacksonville Jaguars could still select a wide receiver with the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL Draft despite the addition of WR Torry Holt.

Our view: That is most certainly still a possibility, however the Jaguars keep coming up as trade partners with either Denver or Washington in the Mark Sanchez sweepstakes. There are scenarios where Michael Crabtree could fall to the #8 spot and that would be difficult for the Jaguars to pass up. If Crabtree is not available, then a trade down to #12 or #13 would appear more likely.

Jaguars | Holt's deal could be worth up to $20 million    Mon Apr 20, 08:02 PM

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Torry Holt agreed to a three-year contract Monday, April 20, that could be worth as much as $20 million, according to a source. The contract grows financially based on the way he plays. The deal calls for three years with base salaries totaling $13 million. There is no signing bonus, but the first year of the contract is guaranteed.

Our view: Torry Holt isn't the player that he used to be and is coming off the worst season of his career where he posted 64-796-3. Fantasy owners should proceed with caution when considering drafting Holt. He's no longer with the greatest show on turf, and will play on grass in a run heavy offense for the first time. Even at his advanced age, 33, Holt is an upgrade over the other receivers in Jacksonville. He should start, with Mike Walker on the other side, and Dennis Northcutt working the slot. This also could signal the Jags passing on a WR with their first pick in the draft, or even trading down from #8 with a team like Washington to compile more draft picks.
