Chicago Bears WR Santonio Holmes displayed good burst and explosion on a 32-yard touchdown catch in the team's preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 28, as he tries to make the team's final roster. Holmes also had a 30-yard punt return that showed off his athleticism. 'You see the explosion in him,' head coach Marc Trestman said. 'He caught a short throw, turned and ran, separated from the defense. That's a good sign.' Holmes' catch was his only haul of the game.

| Footballguys view: Of course they think Holmes will sign with a team. Realistically, there won't be that many teams falling all over themselves to sign Holmes to a cap-friendly contract. He's burned too many bridges during his pro career and has struggled to stay healthy. Perhaps Holmes could be one of those veterans who has to wait until after Week 1 to sign with a team. After Week 1, veteran salaries are not guaranteed for the full year. |

Letting Cromartie go would free up $9.5 million of cap space, releasing Holmes would free up $8.25 million and getting rid of Sanchez would give the team $8.3 million if he is not designated as a 'June 1' cut. Sanchez's $2 million roster bonus is not due until March 25.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said CB Antonio Cromartie (hip) will be a game-time decision in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins after he aggravated his right hip in Week 12. Cromartie said his hip is bothering him more this year than it has since 2008 when he fractured the same hip. He ran during position drills Friday, Nov. 29, and rode a stationary bike. Also to be game-time decisions will be WR Jeremy Kerley (elbow), LB Garrett McIntyre (knee) and WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring). Holmes' right hamstring has been acting up this week, and Ryan said he is concerned for Holmes.
