Patriots | Britt Davis on roster bubble    Sat Jun 30, 11:32 PM

New England Patriots WR Britt Davis, out of football last season until the team added him to the practice squad for the playoffs, has a slight chance of making the 53-man roster in training camp. He has good size at 6-foot-3, making him the tallest receiver on the roster other than WR Matt Roark, and he is relatively young at 26. However, what might work against Davis is the fact he doesn't figure to contribute much on special teams. His closest competition for a roster spot is expected to be WRs Jeremy Ebert, Jesse Holley, Roark and veteran WR Donte' Stallworth.

Footballguys view: Davis made a few plays in training camp and the preseason with the Denver Broncos and has an interesting size/speed combination. He's a decent player but is not much of an interesting deep dynasty prospect.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo said he and his wide receivers will get on the same page in time for Week 4. Romo acknowledged problems in the passing game during Week 3. The Cowboys played without their most experienced receiver, WR Miles Austin (hamstring). WRs Kevin Ogletree and Dez Bryant started, backed up by WRs Laurent Robinson and Jesse Holley. 'Obviously, if you were watching the game, you could tell there were a couple of things we need to execute on better,' Romo said. 'That's what practice this week is for. We're going to make sure we get these guys going. They did a good job today. It'll be good to go on Sunday.'

Dallas Cowboys rookie WR Dwayne Harris is competing with WRs Kevin Ogletree, Manuel Johnson, Teddy Williams and Jesse Holley for playing time as the team's fourth or fifth receiver.

Cowboys | Sam Hurd could lose roster spot    Thu Aug 26, 12:53 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Sam Hurd could lose his roster spot if Dallas decides WR Kevin Ogletree is a more cost-effective option as a fifth wide receiver, reports The Dallas Morning News' David Moore. With the first four receiver spots essentially locked up, the Cowboys could choose Ogletree, who will make $395,000 this year, over Hurd, who is slated to make $1.8 million. Hurd is also a strong special teams player, but teams don't often spend that much on a special teams player. Cowboys coaches have also praised WR Jesse Holley for his special teams play this preseason.

Footballguys view: The NFL is a brutal and often cold-hearted business, but Hurd may get shown the door because the Cowboys could move forward with cheaper options.

Cowboys | Holley fits Cowboys needs    Wed Jul 29, 06:06 PM

Michael Irvin recently commented on 4th and Long winner Jesse Holley and why he was chosen over Andrew Hawkins. "It all comes back to need and how they fit in the scheme," Irvin said. "If this show was for New England, I probably would've taken Hawkins. Because then, I could've put Hawkins on the other side of Wes Welker and then you've got two slot guys. New England uses the slot guys a lot. But it wasn't. It was for the Cowboys and I have to match this guy up with Romo and his style and Jason Garrett. And that's what I did. I think Jesse's ability compliments their style."

Footballguys view: Andrew Hawkins was quicker and a much better route runner, but in the end it was Holley's size and athleticism that won him a spot on the Cowboys training camp roster.

Cowboys | Holley wins spot on camp roster    Tue Jul 21, 11:11 AM

The Associated Press reports free-agent WR Jesse Holley (Bengals) was revealed Monday, July 20, as the winner of '4th and Long,' a reality TV show that was organized and hosted by former WR Michael Irvin. Holley's prize is the 80th spot on the Dallas Cowboys' training camp roster and a standard rookie contract.

Footballguys view: We were pleasantly surprised at how the good show was, kudos to Michael Irvin and company at Spike TV. Holley was a great talent, but we also liked "The Matchbox", Andrew Hawkins, who currently plays in the CFL and would have also been a deserving winner.
