Detroit Lions TE T.J. Hockenson (concussion) is going through the concussion protocol after leaving the team's Week 4 game. Head coach Matt Patricia said the team is not concerned about Hockenson's shoulder.

Footballguys view: The shoulder injury is not the concern, but seeing Hockenson land on his head after trying to leap two Chiefs defenders is a concern. We'll see if he can get through the protocol this week. The Lions have Jesse James and Logan Thomas to work at the tight end position if/when Hockenson misses time.

Detroit Lions TE T.J. Hockenson caught one pass for seven yards against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2. He was targeted three times during the game.

Footballguys view: Hockenson's big Week 1 appears to be more the Cardinals defense (which gave up a huge game to Mark Andrews) than Hockenson being on a rare rookie trajectory. He'll still be a solid TE1 play against the Eagles next week, but his weekly floor is in clear view now.

  Lions | T.J. Hockenson a first-team fixture    Tue Aug 6, 03:46 PM

Detroit Lions TE T.J. Hockenson has been a constant on the first-team offense since he arrived for the offseason training program, and little has changed in that regard through the first couple weeks of training camp as well, according to Tim Twentyman of the team's website.

Footballguys view: Hockenson is an exciting rookie tight end who can dominate as a blocker and thrive as a receiver in the seam. He's going to be the main man at the tight end position for the Lions with free agent addition Jesse James getting some work here and there. Hockenson has a current ADP of TE12 (11.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Lions | T.J. Hockenson shines in red zone    Fri Jul 26, 10:52 PM

Detroit Lions TE T.J. Hockenson has been making tough catches in the red zone since training camp began, according to Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: That's what Hockenson did in college and it sounds like he's doing that early in training camp. We'd be even more excited about Hockenson had it not been for Jesse James being on the roster as well. Watch during training camp and the preseason to see how the team splits reps at the tight end position. Hockenson is more talented and should emerge as the top TE eventually.

Lions | Darrell Bevell excited about TE room    Sun Jul 7, 12:53 PM

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said he's excited about the team's options at tight end heading into the 2019 season. 'I think that whole room has been a big upgrade in all ways,' he said. 'From Jesse (James) to T.J. (Hockenson) to Logan (Thomas) ... it's a great group for us to work with to kind of sift through those guys and find out what they're doing well,' said Bevell. 'But that's a talented group. We're really excited about all of those guys.'

Footballguys view: Bevell should be excited about the room as the Lions upgraded the position through free agency (James, Thomas) and the draft (Hockenson). The question is not talent with the Lions tight end group -- it's usage. Will Bevell use his tight ends more? The Lions want to run the ball early and often (Kerryon Johnson, hello!) but they could mix in some play-action passes geared towards getting these tight ends involved. If they do use tight ends more in 2019, things are shaping up to be a TEBC which obviously negatively impacts the fantasy value of guys like James or Hockenson.
