Giants | Peyton Hillis released    Wed Feb 25, 10:34 AM

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis was released Wednesday, Feb. 25. The move saves $945,000 on the 2015 salary cap.

Footballguys view: Hillis has had each of the last two seasons of his pro career ended by concussions. He hasn't been the same player (thanks Madden!) since rushing for over 1,000 yards with the Browns in 2010. Hillis may not get that much interest in a strong RB draft and free agent class.

Giants | Peyton Hillis placed on IR    Sat Nov 15, 12:11 PM

The New York Giants placed RB Peyton Hillis (concussion) on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Nov. 15.

Footballguys view: Concussions have been a problem for Hillis in the past. With Rashad Jennings coming back from injury, the role for Hillis was going to shrink anyway.

Giants | Andre Williams to continue to share    Fri Nov 7, 10:41 AM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams is expected to continue to lose carries to RBs Peyton Hillis and Michael Cox.

Footballguys view: Williams fumbled last week and he hasn't been all that effective anyway. This week's matchup at Seattle is terrible, so you'll likely want to avoid all Giants RBs this week.

Giants | Peyton Hillis favored on passing downs    Thu Oct 16, 02:18 PM

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis played 31 snaps in the team's Week 6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles because the coaching staff doesn't yet trust RB Andre Williams on passing downs. Williams and Hillis are expected to share the workload in the backfield without RB Rashad Jennings (knee) again in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Footballguys view: Williams is not a good pass blocker and that's all there is to it. That's why the team missed Rashad Jennings so much--he allows them to have more versatility. We still see Williams as a decent RB2 as he'll get most of the carries, but if the Cowboys get an early lead and the Giants have to throw, Williams will be on the sideline anytime the team needs to pass and that will limit his upside.

Giants | Rashad Jennings ruled out    Wed Oct 15, 01:44 PM

New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (knee) will definitely not play in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. Jennings sprained the medial collateral ligament in his knee in Week 5. The team is hoping he can return after their bye week.

Footballguys view: Most reporters have speculated that Jennings would return after the team's Week 8 bye. Rookie Andre Williams and veteran Peyton Hillis will be relied on again, and Hillis could see additional snaps if QB Eli Manning is under heavy pressure.

Giants | Rashad Jennings won't need surgery    Mon Oct 6, 04:03 PM

Updating previous reports, New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (knee) will not need surgery to fix a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. However, he's expected to miss at least a few weeks due to the injury. RB Andre Williams will take over as the starting running back in the meantime, with RB Peyton Hillis as the backup. Williams ran for 65 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries after taking over for Jennings in Week 5.

Footballguys view: Good news for the veteran back here. Jennings compared this injury to the one he had in Week 1 in 2012, which kept him sidelined for two games. We'll see rookie Andre Williams--with a dash of Peyton Hillis--while Jennings misses time.

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis (ankle, foot) said doctors have not given him a timetable on his return from an ankle and foot injury, but he is looking to be back "pretty early."

Footballguys view: With "Archer" down with this ankle/foot injury, we'll see a greater opportunity for rookie Andre Williams. The big back is the likely primary backup behind Rashad Jennings this year.

Giants | Peyton Hillis moves up the depth chart    Tue Aug 5, 02:20 PM

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis has moved up to the No. 2 RB on the team's depth chart with RB Andre Williams as the No. 3 RB.

Footballguys view: The story told in the Hall of Fame was very different, with Williams as the #2 back, and looking good doing it. We know what Hillis is - an "in case of emergency, break glass" back. This is another reminder to never put too much into the first depth chart of training camp.

Giants | Running back roles shaping up    Fri Aug 1, 08:26 AM

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis handled the bulk of the repetitions with the second-team offense Thursday, July 31. RB Andre Williams continued to receive most of the goal line carries.

Footballguys view: With David Wilson's status up in the air, Hillis could have value as the primary backup to Rashad Jennings. Hillis was far from impressive last year for the Giants, but he was serviceable. The rookie Williams is not accomplished in the passing game and would be in a committee with Hillis if Jennings were to go down.

Giants | David Wilson's career likely over    Thu Jul 31, 10:48 AM

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) 'needs a miracle' from his surgeon's evaluation to be able to continue his playing career, according to a source.

Footballguys view: This is a pretty big blow to his comeback, though remember that the Giants are one of the more conservative teams when it comes to diagnosing neck injuries. Our own Andrew Garda is in Giants camp and spoke with Rashad Jennings who said Wilson was "upbeat" and "hopeful" while he has been attending film sessions and meetings. Jennings was already the clear-cut No. 1 back and rated as a low-end RB2 but Garda has been impressed with him in camp and reports he is getting a ton of balls thrown his way as well. This news could move up Andre Willams a bit, but keep in mind his skillset is much different than Wilson's and he has never really caught the ball regularly. He remains mostly a short yardage, goal line back and more of a factor in a touchdown heavy league as opposed to a standard league where he resides in the RB4 territory. Guys like Peyton Hillis and Michael Cox are getting a lot of reps as well, so shaking the backfield out is still an ongoing process so make sure you keep up with the camp reports.

Giants | Andre Williams could be part of rotation to start the year    Mon Jul 7, 09:46 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Williams could unseat RB Peyton Hillis as the power back by the start of the year and become a part of a three-man rotation with RB Rashad Jennings and RB David Wilson, according to Giants.com writers John Schmeelk and Dan Salomone.

Footballguys view: Jennings is still the favorite to lead the backfield in touches, and he might end up being a value at his 5th/6th round ADP if the Giants use him as a true lead back. Williams can't contribute much in the passing game, and Wilson is not even cleared to play yet, so don't let this news scare you away from Jennings if you like him.

Giants | Peyton Hillis suffering injury    Thu Jun 12, 07:22 PM

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said RB Peyton Hillis (undisclosed) has missed a few organized team activities because of a muscle strain. Hillis said he hopes to be able to participate in the mandatory minicamp next week.

Footballguys view: Hillis' roster spot is believed to be in jeopardy so every moment that he's on the trainer's table is one that is hurting his chances. Hillis is surrounded by a ton of backs on the roster and needs to get to camp as soon as possible or he'll be looking for a new job soon.

Giants | Peyton Hillis re-signs    Tue Mar 11, 10:36 AM

Updating an earlier report, the New York Giants re-signed RB Peyton Hillis to a two-year, $1.8 million deal.

Footballguys view: The Giants aren't done at the running back position. We'll see them make a decision on free agent Andre Brown in the near future. They can't rely on David Wilson as he comes back from the neck injury that cost him most of the 2013 season.

Giants | RB roles clearer    Fri Nov 22, 05:57 PM

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin doesn't expect to change things up when it comes to the roles of his running backs. Last week against the Green Bay Packers, RB Andre Brown was the lead back with RB Brandon Jacobs serving as the goal-line and short-yardage option. Brown had 18 carries for 75 percent of the workload, with Jacobs having five touches. RB Michael Cox will likely continue to be used on special teams, meaning RB Peyton Hillis would be inactive for the second straight week.

Footballguys view: Brown is facing a Cowboys defense that is without two starting linebackers, including defensive MVP Sean Lee. They gave up huge games to all three Saints running backs in Week 10, so Brown is almost a must play against Dallas.

Giants | Peyton Hillis likely to be big part of Week 10 plans    Wed Nov 6, 11:38 PM

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis is expected to be a big part of the team's plan for Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders. Hillis is expected to be the primary option, with RBs Andre Brown and Brandon Jacobs sprinkled into the equation. 'I'm pretty sure they are going to switch us in, switch us out,' Brown said Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Footballguys view: Andre Brown is just getting back into playing shape and Brandon Jacobs has run well but is limited in upside--Hillis has performed well in his first two games with the team and given that it sounds like the Giants are easing Brown back in, should have one more week of Flex value.

Giants | David Wilson not cleared yet    Mon Nov 4, 04:24 PM

Updating a previous report, an MRI showed RB David Wilson (neck) significant improvement in his recovery from a neck injury, but he has not been cleared to resume football activities at this point. Wilson will undergo another evaluation in a few weeks.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to watch this situation closely. Wilson could miss several more weeks or miss the rest of the year. Either way in shallow bench leagues it's time to consider different options. The Giants are getting Andre Brown back and are going to have a package of plays for him in Week 10.

Giants | Andre Brown fully healthy    Tue Oct 29, 07:25 PM

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) is 100 percent healthy and recovered from his fractured left leg, but he said he will wear a protective shin guard 'for the rest of my career.' Head coach Tom Coughlin said he's 'going to have to wait and see' when Brown will return. It's unclear if RBs Peyton Hillis and Brandon Jacobs will have a roster spot when Brown returns.

Footballguys view: The Giants have said they will keep Hillis around as he ran with toughness during his two games with the team so far. We'll see if that actually happens when Brown is back on the active roster. Fantasy owners need to grab Brown on the waiver wire now that he's close to returning.

Giants | Unlikely to release Peyton Hillis    Mon Oct 28, 05:03 PM

The New York Giants likely will not release RB Peyton Hillis when RB Andre Brown (leg) is activated because he has been running the ball well and has been a good blocker and receiver in the passing game.

Footballguys view: Good news for the NFL's version of Archer here. We'll see if the story is the same when (if?) David Wilson (neck) comes back from his injury as well.
