Saints | NO taking a look at Tim Hightower    Tue Jun 12, 12:23 PM

Free-agent RB Tim Hightower (49ers) is participating in minicamp with the New Orleans Saints on a tryout basis, according to Josh Katzenstein of The Times-Picayune.

Footballguys view: Hightower was out of the league in 2017 after the 49ers released him at final cuts. He spent two seasons with the Saints and could give them veteran depth behind Alvin Kamara, especially since Mark Ingram is suspended the first four games of the 2018 regular season.

49ers | San Francisco cuts seven players    Fri Sep 1, 05:41 PM

San Francisco 49ers QB Matt Barkley, RB Tim Hightower and WR Louis Murphy were released Friday, Sept. 1. The team also waived RB Kapri Bibbs, FB Tyler McCloskey, WR Tim Patrick and PK Nick Rose.

Footballguys view: Rookie UDFA Matt Breida appears to be the backup to Carlos Hyde in the 49ers backfield. Hyde hasn't been the most durable over the course of his career, so file Breida's name away, as he appears to be ahead of fourth-round pick Joe Williams.

49ers | Carlos Hyde must earning starting job    Tue Jul 11, 03:32 PM

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde will need to earn his starting job over rookie RB Joe Williams, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. Maiocco envisions a committee approach with RB Tim Hightower also being involved.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners seem split on Hyde's outlook for 2017. Some feel as the 49ers starter he's got low-end RB1 upside, while still others think he'll be unseated by Williams sooner rather than later. In the final year of his rookie contract, Hyde is a bit of an odd fit for Kyle Shanahan's zone-blocking system. The oft-injured veteran has a current ADP of RB18 (4.07) in 12-team PPR leagues. That could change drastically if we watch this battle unfold in favor of Williams (or a RBBC) in training camp and the preseason.

  49ers | One-year deal for Tim Hightower    Tue Apr 4, 03:53 PM

San Francisco 49ers RB Tim Hightower was officially signed to a one-year deal Tuesday, April 4. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Hightower could make 2015 fourth-round pick Mike Davis expendable. The Saints now have an opening at backup running back behind Mark Ingram, with 2016 seventh-rounder and SPARQ freak Daniel Lasco at the front of the line.

49ers | Tim Hightower set to join San Francisco    Sat Apr 1, 12:34 PM

Free-agent RB Tim Hightower (Saints) agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, April 1.

Footballguys view: Hightower has to be considered the favorite to back up Carlos Hyde at this point. Hyde is in a contract year, and the offense is very RB friendly with new head coach Kyle Shanahan running the show. However, Hyde is known to miss time so fantasy owners should at least keep Hightower on waiver wire speed dial.

Saints | Tim Hightower could return to Saints    Wed Mar 22, 02:07 PM

Free-agent RB Tim Hightower (Saints) is still an option for the New Orleans Saints this offseason, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Bringing back Travaris Cadet indicates the Saints might not be as high on Hightower. He's getting some interest out there, but only as part of a RBBC with various teams. No matter where he ends up, Hightower may not have much fantasy value.

Saints | Tim Hightower set to be FA    Sat Jan 28, 03:52 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower will be an unrestricted free agent Thursday, March 9, at 4 p.m. EST.

Footballguys view: Hightower has shown great resiliency during his pro career, and he's provided valuable veteran depth for the Saints over the last two years. He could always stay in New Orleans, and we're not sure he'll get much interest outside of The Big Easy.

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to RB Tim Hightower in a 49-21 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Footballguys view: Snead didn't have a big game as a receiver, but his touchdown pass made up for it on a day that most everything the Saints offense did worked. He'll be an upside WR3/Flex against Detroit next week.

Saints | Tim Hightower steps up    Fri Nov 18, 12:12 AM

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower finished with 12 carries for 69 yards and eight catches for 57 yards in a 23-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers Thursday, Nov. 17.

Footballguys view: Hightower ran strong in the second half after Mark Ingram left with a concussion, and he was Drew Brees' favorite checkdown option. He'll be a solid RB2 at worst next week if Ingram is out against the Rams.

Saints | Tim Hightower likely to remain involved    Sat Nov 5, 12:42 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower will be given a chance to stay heavily involved in the offense after erupting for 102 rushing yards against Seattle Seahawks in a Week 8 win, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett.

Footballguys view: The Saints continue to stress that Mark Ingram will still be the lead back, but with the way Hightower is playing we're not so sure. Consider Ingram a low-end RB2 and Hightower a RB3/flex option in Week 9.

Saints | Tim Hightower earns more work    Mon Oct 31, 11:09 AM

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower has earned more carries for the Week 9 game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to a source. The team plans to use a committee in the backfield.

Footballguys view: Mark Ingram has clearly fallen out of favor with the coaching staff, and his fumble against the Seahawks is not going to help. Hightower went over 100 yards and was able to perform like a workhorse with 26 carries. He should be a top priority on the waiver wire this week.

Saints | Tim Hightower seizes opportunity    Sun Oct 30, 08:42 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower took advantage of the benching of RB Mark Ingram in Week 8 game against the Seattle Seahawks, rushing 26 times for 102 yards. Ingram was punished for an early fumble and he never returned.

Footballguys view: Hightower doesn't have anything special about his game at this point, but he goes all out and Sean Payton does well when he feeds him. If Hightower gets the start against San Francisco next week, it will be hard to leave him out of the top ten Week 9 backs.

Saints | Tim Hightower hones in on No. 2 job    Tue Aug 23, 10:52 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower is expected to serve as the team's primary backup to RB Mark Ingram, as none of the other reserve tailbacks have flashed or helped themselves in training camp and the preseason.

Footballguys view: Keep this in mind if you play in deeper leagues and want to handcuff a player to Ingram. After Ingram was hurt last year, Hightower stepped in and did well. He played adequately over the final four games, with 84 carries for 327 yards (3.9 ypc) and 4 touchdowns. He also had 12 receptions for 129 yards.

Saints | Tim Hightower the backup?    Sun Jul 17, 08:13 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower is the best bet to serve as the primary backup for RB Mark Ingram, according to beat writer Nick Underhill.

Footballguys view: That makes sense as Hightower is a seasoned veteran who can play a similar role to Ingram in case of emergency. We feel C.J. Spiller will get more playing time as a change-of-pace back behind Ingram this year...provided he stays healthy. Both Hightower and Spiller are backs to target in the final few rounds of your draft.

Saints | New Orleans backfield taking shape    Thu Jun 16, 07:45 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram is the lead running back for the Saints, while RB Tim Hightower appears to be the backup, according to Larry Holder of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. RB C.J. Spiller holds the No. 3 spot.

Footballguys view: Ingram has come into his own, and we think he's a borderline RB1/RB2 and we could see him tipping 1,000 yards this year. Hightower finally got back into the league after some knee issues, but will be limited to whatever Ingram doesn't pick up. That means Hightower is unlikely to have any value save as a handcuff. Spiller might be the third back but he's going to have more work than Hightower, since he brings a little more variety to the table. Consider him only as depth though, as we don't expect him to do enough to warrant more than a bye-week fill-in, and his value is around RB7.

Saints | Tim Hightower returning to Saints    Fri Apr 8, 12:38 PM

Free-agent RB Tim Hightower (Saints) has agreed to initial terms on a contract with the New Orleans Saints, according to a source.

Saints | Tim Hightower to meet with Saints    Fri Apr 1, 11:32 AM

Free-agent RB Tim Hightower (Saints) will meet with the New Orleans Saints this week.

Footballguys view: Hightower was an emergency option for the Saints last year, and he had surprising success. He went for about 100 all-purpose yards in each game (sometimes more) and scored a handful of touchdowns. The Saints could bring him back as valuable veteran depth in 2016.

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower had 27 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns and three catches for 47 yards in a 38-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16.

Footballguys view: Hightower had one of the best days of his career in a part of his career he is grateful to have. One of the most unlikely fantasy football heroes in recent years is a great inspirational story of perseverance. He'll be a good start against Atlanta next week.

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower carried the ball 28 times for 85 yards and a touchdown and added one catch for 10 yards in a 24-17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 14.

Footballguys view: Hightower is clearly the man with Mark Ingram out. As long as he holds onto the ball and runs hard, he'll be worth at least a flex start for the last two weeks of the fantasy playoffs, including next week against Detroit.

Saints | Tim Hightower to be No. 1 back    Sun Dec 13, 11:02 AM

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower is expected to receive the bulk of the carries for the team going forward, with RB Mark Ingram (shoulder) on injured reserve, because of their similar running styles. RB C.J. Spiller's role appears unlikely to change.

Footballguys view: Hightower is still a dicey play except for a what the flex because of the Bucs run defense and likelihood that the Saints could fall behind and abandon the run on the road.

Saints | Tim Hightower could have significant role    Thu Dec 10, 12:12 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower could have a significant role in the backfield with RB Mark Ingram's (shoulder) season over. Head coach Sean Payton has praised Hightower for his ability and pass protection. 'He's competitive, he's tough, he's been in that spotlight. And for him, it's the confidence that leg is a 100%,' head coach Sean Payton said. 'So I'm excited to see him play, just like I am with C.J.'

Footballguys view: Drew Brees has also hinted Hightower might get a nice chunk of carries. Right now we have both of them as an RB4 until we know for sure, so be cautious.

New Orleans Saints RBs C.J. Spiller and Tim Hightower could be in line for more snaps if RB Mark Ingram (shoulder) is out for the season.

Footballguys view: Spiller is averaging just 13.5 snaps and 5.5 touches per game with the Saints this year for 108 rushing yards, 216 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Spiller has just four touches in the last two games.

Saints | Tim Hightower re-signs    Mon Nov 2, 05:10 PM

The New Orleans Saints re-signed RB Tim Hightower to an undisclosed deal Monday, Nov. 2, according to a source. Hightower hasn't played in a regular season game since 2011 due to injuries. RB Marcus Murphy could see more carries for the team after RB Khiry Robinson (leg) suffered a season-ending leg injury.

Footballguys view: Hightower is a seasoned veteran who already knows this offense as he spent the entire offseason with the Saints. It's a good signing for the team, but he's unlikely to be fantasy relevant. Without Robinson, we're expecting more from Mark Ingram and C.J. Spiller.

Saints | Three RBs on Saints' roster    Wed Mar 4, 07:29 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Pierre Thomas' (Saints) release by the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, March 4, will save $1.735 million against the salary cap, and he carries an $830,000 'dead money' charge. Thomas would have counted $2.565 million against the salary cap this year. The Saints currently have three running backs on roster: RBs Khiry Robinson, Edwin Baker and Tim Hightower. RBs Travaris Cadet and Mark Ingram are both scheduled to be free agents.

Footballguys view: With the moves at running back, Robinson is the player that benefits the most in the Saints backfield. He needs to stay healthy, but Robinson has the natural ability to be a quality starter and a 1,000-yard rusher.

Saints | Tim Hightower signed to futures deal    Sun Jan 4, 04:13 PM

The New Orleans Saints signed free-agent RB Tim Hightower (Redskins) to a futures contract Sunday, Jan. 4, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Interesting to see that Hightower gets a contract at this point in the offseason for the Saints. Deep dynasty league owners make sure to keep tabs here. The Saints backfield could look different in 2015. Mark Ingram hits free agency after a career-high 964 yards rushing. Khiry Robinson could be the lead back, and a guy like Hightower might earn a role as a reserve. Hightower has been out of football since tearing his left ACL in 2011 when he was with Washington.

Former Washington Redskins RB Tim Hightower, who suffered a torn ACL in 2011 and a subsequent infection, was spotted at Washington Redskins camp in the past few days. Hightower was medically cleared by doctors two months ago and wants to come back to the game.

The Redskins added two RBs in the 2013 NFL draft (Chris Thompson, Jawan Jamison) to compete for roster spots with Roy Helu and Evan Royster behind Alfred Morris. The Giants have David Wilson and Andre Brown as their top two RBs but lack depth behind those two.

One name that makes sense is New Orleans Saints RB Chris Ivory through trade, or former Cardinals RB and current free-agent Tim Hightower (Redskins). However, the latter is unlikely, as he is still not all the way back from a knee issue.
