Seahawks | Chris Henry re-signed    Wed Feb 23, 11:31 PM

The Seattle Seahawks re-signed RB Chris Henry Wednesday, Feb. 23, reports John Boyle, of the Everett Herald. Terms of the deal were undisclosed. Henry spent a majority of the season on the team's practice squad in 2010.

Footballguys view: Henry was once a second-round pick by the Titans but failed to play up to his potential. He's a big back who is fast in a straight line but is currently buried on the Seahawks depth chart.

Bengals | Researchers found brain trauma in Chris Henry    Mon Jun 28, 11:03 AM

Former Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry, who died in a traffic accident last year, had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) - a form of degenerative brain damage caused by multiple hits to the head - at the time of his death, reports Peter Keating, of ESPN The Magazine, according to scientists at the Brain Injury Research Institute, a research center affiliated with West Virginia University. 'We would have been very happy if the results had been negative, but multiple areas of Chris Henry's brain showed CTE,' said Julian Bailes, Director of BIRI and chairman of neurosurgery at West Virginia.

Bengals | No charges in C. Henry's death    Fri Jan 8, 12:48 AM

Sharon Coolidge, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports former Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry's fiance, Loleini Tonga, will not be charged in connection with Henry's death, according to investigators. Tonga did nothing wrong while driving the truck from which Henry fell to his death in December, according to detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) Police Department Homicide Unit along with the Highway Interdiction and Traffic Safety Unit.

Footballguys view: Homicide detectives determined Tonga and Henry were arguing at a Charlotte home Dec. 16 when she got into a truck and began to drive away. Henry jumped into the back of the truck and beat on the back of the vehicle. Henry then fell to his death, according to reports. His death has been ruled accidental with the cause being blunt force trauma to the head from a fall.

Bengals | Henry to be involved more    Wed Sep 16, 07:50 PM

Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports that WR Chris Henry was only in for 18 of the team's 63 offensive snaps, but offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said "obviously we need to have him in there more." Bratkowski said Henry didn't play as much because he missed a day of practice last week.

Footballguys view: Don't overreact and drop Henry. There's a lot of evidence that he's one of Carson Palmer's favorite targets, and Laveranues Coles performance last week starts the door opening for Henry to replace him in the starting lineup.

Bengals | Henry limited because Broncos took away deep ball    Wed Sep 16, 10:09 AM

Aaron Wilson, of the National Football Post, reports that Bengals WR Chris Henry only had one catch in week 1 because the Broncos took away the deep pass with their coverage scheme. "They weren't going to let the ball go over their heads," QB Carson Palmer said. "They played two deep safeties, as deep as a safety that I've ever seen. Their mindset was to not let us throw the ball downfield. We tried to a number of times, but you just can't force it. We had Chris on a number of deep routes, but if he's double covered..."

Footballguys view: Henry makes a terrific buy low because the Bengals have to find a way to get him more involved, maybe at the expense of Laveranues Coles. Expect the Broncos to give Braylon Edwards similar treatment this week.

Bengals | Henry practicing Friday    Fri Sep 11, 11:14 AM

Bengals | Henry misses practice Thursday    Thu Sep 10, 05:17 PM

Joe Reedy, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry (thigh) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 10. He is considered probable for Week 1.

Footballguys view: We should know more soon, but if Henry were to miss the opener against the Broncos it would be a huge blow to the passing game. Henry has been playing like the Bengals version of Randy Moss, and drawing praise from his coaches and teammates. Because of his size, speed, and athleticism, Henry is always difficult to cover, and could give the Broncos secondary fits if he plays in the game.

Bengals | Henry an X factor in the offense    Mon Sep 7, 01:43 AM

Joe Reedy, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry could be a true 'X' factor for the Bengals' offense this season. He is looking to play in his first full season since 2005, and QB Carson Palmer has called him Randy Moss Jr. due to his big-play capability.

Footballguys view: Many have predicted that Henry would take over Chad Ochocinco's role as the #1 target in this offense during the season. Henry has certainly displayed the chemistry with Carson Palmer and big-play ability that would get him in that role during the preseason. Henry scored in every preseason game, and comes into the season with a lot of positive momentum.

The Associated Press reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry caught a seven-yard touchdown pass during the team's preseason game Thursday, Sept. 3. Henry caught a touchdown pass in each of the team's preseason games.

Footballguys view: If you are convinced Henry will break out this year, you're likely not alone in your fantasy league. You'll have to pull the trigger as early as the 9th or 10th round (if not earlier) in most leagues to be assured of landing him.

Bengals | Henry has learned from suspensions    Thu Sep 3, 10:02 AM

ESPN.com reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry said he has learned his lesson through the NFL's discipline against him. Henry has been suspended a total of 14 games in the last three seasons for violating league policy. 'Yeah, it helped me,' Henry said, according to USA Today. 'It helped me focus up, and it made me realize that if I continually wanted to play, I had to do right and be a professional.' QB Carson Palmer said he's convinced Henry has reflected on his ways and made changes. 'I'm very close with him. We spend a lot of time together,' Palmer said. 'I've seen it firsthand. He's a different person.'

Footballguys view: We've been hearing about this all offseason, and we're willing to give Henry the benefit of the doubt. He is a supremely talented athlete, that has Randy Moss-like ability, and guys like QB Carson Palmer are raving about his prospects for the 2009 season. If the Bengals offensive line can keep Palmer upright, he could finish as a top 10 fantasy QB, and WR Chris Henry will be a big help in getting him those numbers.

Bengals | C. Henry scores Thursday    Fri Aug 28, 12:12 AM

The Associated Press reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry caught two passes for 62 yards with a touchdown reception during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 27. Henry has all three of the team's touchdown receptions in the preseason.

Footballguys view: Henry's scoring binge during the preseason is fueling the rise of his ADP. You have to take him in the 8th or 9th round now to ensure that he lands on your team.

Bengals | Lewis wants more consistency from Henry    Sat Aug 15, 08:46 AM

CBSSports.com reports Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said he wants more consistency from WR Chris Henry, particularly better concentration, despite Henry's seven-catch performance in the preseason opener. 'I let him play a little bit longer tonight just to get (the drops) out of him. He's had some drops in practice. If he's going to help us at all, he needs to be more consistent so we can count on him all the time,' Lewis said.

Footballguys view: This has always been the case with Chris Henry. He is supremely talented, but his hands are inconsistent. Henry seems to be a little like Plaxico Burress on the field. If a pass is over his head, or seemingly out of reach, Henry will come down with the ball. If a pass is right on the mark he will sometimes drop the easy ones. Henry has been guilty of thinking about after the catch before securing the ball, and he still needs to work on that.

The Associated Press reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry caught seven passes for 100 yards with a touchdown during the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 14.

Bengals | Henry getting a lot of work in the redzone    Mon Aug 10, 09:17 PM

Carlos Holmes, from the Dayton Daily News, reports wide receiver Chris Henry has dropped his fare share of passes during practice, but come game time he's money in the bank. Henry made a nice one-hand grab in the back right corner of the end zone in the Mock Game, but was unable to keep both feet in bounds. Henry's number was called again on a later drive in the red zone on the same play. This play was a staple for the Bengals offense allowing Henry to use his athleticism and leaping ability to go up and over defenders in the endzone.

Footballguys view: Chris Henry may not be a starting wide receiver, but could be a TD vulture for the team because he's such a great target in the red zone.

Bengals | Henry a changed man, will be more involved in offense    Sat Aug 1, 05:08 PM

Joe Kay, of the Associated Press, reports that Bengals coaches and teammates see a change in WR Chris Henry. "I don't live the way I did in the past," Henry said. "I kind of plan my days out and take it one day at a time and stay away from the wrong people. I'm not partying anymore. I'm just focused on football right now and my family. I don't associate with the same people. I've completely changed everything." Henry has apparently impressed offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski enough in the offseason workouts that he is trying to figure out how to get the #3 wide receiver more involved in the offense.

Footballguys view: Plenty of people have been forecasting a big year for Henry and telling the same story about him turning the corner as a human being off the field this year. It might take an injury to Laveranues Coles or Chad Ochocinco for Henry to everyweek fantasy starter relevance, but this news certainly enhances the value of Carson Palmer, who couldn't say enough good things about Henry over the last few months.

Bengals | Palmer praises Benson, Henry    Mon Jul 20, 06:41 PM

Pat Kirwan, of NFL.com, reports that Cincinnati QB Carson Palmer "believes (WR Chris) Henry could be on the verge of a Randy Moss-type career", and that he "gushed about the running back's speed, work ethic and potential for a big season". Kirwan said both players should be high on fantasy football players lists.

Footballguys view: Kirwan is one of our favorite NFL writers in the business, but fantasy advice is not his forte. Henry is still only a #3 receiver, and Benson is still running behind one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. Both could end up being value picks, but we wouldn't put too much stock in Palmer's comments.

Bengals | Henry motivated in contract year    Sun Jul 5, 02:26 PM

Chick Ludwig, from the Dayton Daily News, reports that contract years have a way of bringing out the best in NFL players. To secure a future deal, they must produce in the present season. That's the situation Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry finds himself in. He's in the final year of a two-year contract, and needs a solid season of trouble-free productivity to land another deal either here or someplace else.

Footballguys view: Henry could be named the team's starting slot receiver, but he is pushing Laveranues Coles for the #2 job opposite of Chad Ochocinco. "It's going to be a big year for me," Henry predicted during the club's recent minicamp. "I've been working hard. I feel like I'm at my best right now, and I'm going to do everything I can to help the team get to where we're trying to get." Regardless of where he lines up on the field Henry is a threat to score because of his freakish athleticism. Quarterback Carson Palmer has been praising Henry this offseason and at the very least he should be a consistent target for Palmer in the red zone.

Bengals | Henry's turned his life around    Tue Jun 23, 01:53 PM

Carlos Holmes, from the Dayton Daily News, said in an interview on our podcast "The Audible" that WR Chris Henry has turned his life around. Holmes commented on how Henry is now engaged and spends a lot of his free time with his three kids.

Footballguys view: Holmes also told us the Bengals expect Henry to push Laveranues Coles for playing time. According to Holmes, Chris Henry has been getting a lot of separation on deep routes and is making tough catches seem routine. Earlier this offseason QB Carson Palmer was raving about how much better Henry looks this year than in previous seasons. This is also the first time that Henry has been working out with the team in the spring, and it could make a big difference during the regular season on Sundays.

Bengals | Henry bulks up slightly    Mon Jun 22, 12:28 PM

James Walker, of ESPN.com, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry had added roughly five pounds of muscle in the offseason, bulking up to 205 pounds. Henry will try to put on a few more pounds before the start of the regular season, if possible.

Footballguys view: Henry's nickname is "slim" and he's always been known as a lanky player. Adding a few pounds won't take away from Henry's explosiveness, and it should help him fight off physical defenders for jump passes in the end zone or on the sideline. He's currently the favorite to win the #3 WR job with the Bengals, and with his pure physical talent he creates an instant mismatch every time he steps on the field.

Bengals | Henry, Caldwell favorites for No. 3 job    Sat Jun 20, 02:26 PM

James Walker, of ESPN.com, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry and WR Andre Caldwell appear to be the early favorites for the team's No. 3 receiver job.

Footballguys view: Walker comments that the duo has stood out over other Bengals receivers like Antonio Chatman and Jerome Simpson. Henry has freakish athleticism, and if he stays out of trouble he provides the team with a 3rd WR that is difficult for opposing defenses to stop. Caldwell is the 2nd-year player that has savvy route running ability, solid hands, and good run after the catch ability. Henry may have a slight edge over Caldwell right now, but this is a competition that should last all the way through training camp.

Bengals | Palmer praises C. Henry    Thu May 21, 01:07 PM

Joe Reedy, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals QB Carson Palmer spoke highly of WR Chris Henry. 'He's a guy that's had a great offseason, really turned his life around,' Palmer said. 'I'm excited to watch him play. He's a guy that seems like he catches a touchdown every other ball that's thrown to him, he's that explosive. He's kind of taken over Chad's (Ochocinco) position and he's a guy that, like I said earlier, does not want to give up that spot right now.'

Footballguys view: There's never been a question about Chris Henry's talent on the field - he could easily be a top 30 WR in the league. The concern has always been his off field issues, so this is good news coming from Carson Palmer as the Bengals need all the help they can get. Chris Henry is currently listed as 3rd on the depth chart behind Chad Ochocinco and Laveranues Coles. Henry will have to battle 2nd year WRs Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell for the #3 job.
