Dolphins | Pennington injury update    Wed Nov 18, 12:39 PM

Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Pennington (shoulder) said Tuesday, Nov. 17, he has completed the first phase of his rehabilitation from season-ending shoulder surgery and now must map out a recovery program for the next six weeks. At this stage, Pennington said, he's not certain if he will play again. He might not make that decision until March. However, regardless of what that decision is, the chances of Pennington playing for the Dolphins again are quite slim. The team has a starting quarterback in QB Chad Henne. They have committed time and resources on making backup QB Pat White a success. They also have QB Tyler Thigpen under contract.

Dolphins | Henne wins first NFL start    Sun Oct 4, 09:02 PM

The Associated Press reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Henne made his first NFL start Week 4 and defeated the Buffalo Bills 38-10. Henne was 14-for-22 for 115 yards with a touchdown pass, but he was sacked six times.

Our view: He owes most of the credit to the defense and running game, but he didn't make any big mistakes.

Dolphins | Henne takes over as starting quarterback    Mon Sep 28, 03:20 PM

Chris Mortensen, of ESPN, reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Henne will take over as the team's starting quarterback. Rookie QB Pat White will serve as the team's No. 2 quarterback, and they plan to look at other options to fill their No. 3 quarterback role.

Our view: Henne has a very strong arm, and we may see the Dolphins try more vertical passes because of it. He had an up and down career at Michigan, but had good zip and accuracy on his short and intermediate passes when he used proper technique. Because of his size he is hard to bring down, and does a good job of staying calm in the pocket. He has enough athleticism to move around and throw on the run if need be. Henne gets a little too much air under his long passes, thus they hang too long and are easier to pick off.

Dolphins | Pennington injured Week 3    Sun Sep 27, 05:48 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Chad Pennington (shoulder) left the team's Week 3 game with a right shoulder injury and is doubtful to return. He was replaced in the game by QB Chad Henne.

Our view: With 3rd QB Henne in the game, neither Pennington nor White can return to the game.

Dolphins | Week 2 Inactives    Mon Sep 21, 07:34 PM

The Miami Dolphins have declared OT Andrew Gardner, LB Cameron Wake, QB Chad Henne, SS Chris X. Clemons, TE John Nalbone, DL Lionel Dotson, WR Patrick Turner, OG Shawn Murphy inactive for Week 2.

Our view: Chad Henne as the third QB means more wildcat and spread option for the Dolphins tonight.

  Dolphins | P. White active Week 1    Sun Sep 13, 10:21 PM

Edgar Thompson, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins QB Pat White was on the active roster for Week 1 and QB Chad Henne was the No. 3 quarterback. White entered the game in a spread formation and ran around the left end, but he did not gain any yards on the play.

Dolphins | Week 1 Inactives    Sun Sep 13, 12:26 PM

The Miami Dolphins have declared OT Andrew Gardner, LB Cameron Wake, QB Chad Henne, SS Chris X. Clemons, TE John Nalbone, DL Lionel Dotson, WR Patrick Turner, OG Shawn Murphy inactive for Week 1.

Our view: Pat White is the surprise #2 QB for Miami. Expect some spread option looks with White as QB.

Dolphins | Henne bounces back well Thursday    Fri Sep 4, 02:17 AM

The Associated Press reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Henne was 11-for-16 for 89 yards during the team's final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 3. Henne had a disappointing performance last week when he completed just two of his eight passing attempts.

Dolphins | Henne struggles Thursday    Fri Aug 28, 01:27 AM

Omar Kelly, of the South Florida SunSentinel, reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Henne struggled during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 27. Henne was 2-for-8 for 55 yards with an interception while getting sacked four times.

Our view: Whether it's more Henne or the second-team offensive line, this is a scary look into how things could go if injuries strike Chad Pennington or key performers on that line.

Dolphins | Henne to finish game Saturday    Sat Aug 22, 06:50 PM

Omar Kelly, of the South Florida SunSentinel, reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Henne will finish the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22, because the team wants to see him finish a game and run the two-minute drill.

Dolphins | Henne solid Monday    Mon Aug 17, 11:52 PM

The Associated Press reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Henne was 7-for-11 for 94 yards with a touchdown and an interception Monday, Aug. 17, against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Our view: Henne has a good grip on the backup QB job, but he's not threatening to take over for Chad Pennington any time soon unless Pennington implodes. Henne's first pass was directly to Jaguars safety Sean Considine, but he dropped it, so he should have had two interceptions Monday night.

Dolphins | Henne to see a good chunk of playing time Monday    Thu Aug 13, 05:30 PM

Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano said QB Chad Henne will receive a good chunk of playing time in the team's preseason game Monday, Aug. 17.

Our view: Henne is about as far ahead of Pat White as he is behind Chad Pennington, so this should mainly serve as a possible preview for next year more than the predicate for an unexpected QB battle for the starting or backup position.

Dolphins | Henne failing to create QB competition    Tue Aug 11, 12:06 PM

Edgar Thompson, of the Palm Beach Post, reports that backup second-year QB Chad Henne has thrown the ball nicely and executed his play-action and ball fakes well, but he hasn't performed consistently enough to create a QB competition with starter Chad Pennington, especially in the two-minute drill

Our view: This is Pennington's team, however, if they falter like some expect, the Dolphins could look to Henne for a shot in the arm. Head coach Tony Sparano said Henne will get the majority of snaps in the preseason so the team can see how he performs in a variety of situations.

Dolphins | Team may turn to Henne in the regular season    Fri Jul 31, 07:35 PM

Omar Kelly, from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, reports if the Dolphins aren't contending for a playoff spot at midseason, the coaches might give Henne and his big arm a test drive to help determine whether Pennington needs to be re-signed.

Our view: Kelly notes that Pennington is the leader of this team, but Henne represents the future. Those people putting Pat White in the QB of the future role are sadly mistaken. Henne looked good in camp last season and his big arm, size, and toughness put him in line to be the next starter. Pat White has struggled in minicamp and will have to start out his NFL career as a gadget/Wildcat QB.

Dolphins | Henne impresses while Pennington's gone    Sun Jun 14, 07:23 PM

Edgar Thompson, from the Palm Beach Post, notes that 2nd year QB Chad Henne has looked good while Chad Pennington is away at his sister's wedding.

Our view: Henne looked good throwing the intermediate routes that Pennington struggles with and made a few big plays down field with long passes. In red zone drills head coach Tony Sparano stated that Henne didn't make any bad decisions with the football. At the same time rookie QB Pat White struggled again throwing the football. We've noted before that White must not be a good practice player, but shows up when it's game time. Right now Henne is entrenched as the backup to Pennington and White has a lot to learn before he can challenge for that spot.

Dolphins | Pennington remains No. 1 quarterback    Thu May 7, 12:51 PM

Armando Salguero, of The Miami Herald, reports while all of the talk of the Miami Dolphins quarterbacks has surrounded the drafting of Pat White and how second-year QB Chad Henne is slated to take over as the starter in 2010, it has been overlooked that QB Chad Pennington remains the starter in 2009.

Our view: Chad Pennington's job is fairly safe. Unless Pennington were to go down with an injury it doesn't sound like Chad Henne is ready to be the starter. Pat White may be the perfect Wildcat QB, but he may have to be listed as a WR to see action on Sundays as #3 QBs can only enter games in emergency situations and are listed as inactive.

Dolphins | Ireland talks about Henne    Sun Apr 26, 01:59 AM

Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said the team has a high regard for second-year QB Chad Henne. 'I don't (think) you can have too many good players at that position and there's a little bit of an unknown about Chad,' Ireland said. He said the team's quarterbacks are going to be competing for playing time. 'I feel good about having three, four really good players at that position,' Ireland said.
