Falcons | Atlanta signs Stevan Ridley Tue Oct 25, 04:44 PM
Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Colts) was signed by the Atlanta Falcons Tuesday, Oct. 25. LB A.J. Hawk was released in a corresponding move.
Footballguys view: Ridley gives the team veteran depth at the position. We're not counting on him to do much with the Falcons. Tevin Coleman (hamstring) is banged up, so Devonta Freeman should get all the work he can handle going forward. |

Falcons | A.J. Hawks heading to Atlanta Tue Oct 4, 02:55 PM
Free-agent LB A.J. Hawk (Bengals) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Atlanta Hawks Tuesday, Oct. 4.
Footballguys view: With Sean Witherspoon out for the year with an Achilles' injury (and a few others players banged up), the Falcons needed depth at the LB position. Hawk is no longer the player he used to be with the Packers, but he's smart, always around the ball and could be a two-down player for them. |

Bengals | Sign A.J. Hawk Tue Mar 10, 05:40 PM
Free-agent LB A.J. Hawk (Packers) is signing a two-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals Tuesday, March 10. Financial terms were undisclosed.
Footballguys view: Hawk gives them good veteran depth at the linebacker position. He's never really played up to the potential he had coming out of college, but Hawk is insurance in case Vontaze Burfict's microfracture surgery causes unseen complications. |

Packers | A.J. Hawk released Wed Feb 25, 04:39 PM
Green Bay Packers LB A.J. Hawk was released Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Footballguys view: No surprise here given Hawk's price tag and his recent play. The move will save them $3.5 million against the salary cap in 2015. We could see a team like the Chiefs or the Broncos interested in the veteran inside linebacker even though he's not the player he used to be. |

Packers | A.J. Hawk had surgery Fri Feb 20, 10:46 AM
Green Bay Packers LB A.J. Hawk (ankle) had surgery to remove several bone spurs from his ankle after the season. Hawk lost weight to try and compensate for the injury later in the season.
Footballguys view: Hawk still hasn't quite fulfilled the promise he once held and the Packers are going to have to look at other options to fill the middle of the defense at some point. As it stands though, Hawk might be able to play at a higher level than he did last season if he's 100% healthy. |

Packers | Brad Jones works on dime defense Thu Jul 31, 01:46 AM
Green Bay Packers LB Brad Jones has been working ahead of LB A.J. Hawk as the lone linebacker in the dime defense in practice.
Footballguys view: Hawk has been living on borrowed time the last few years, so it's not a shock that the team is beginning to look elsewhere. Jones struggled a bit last season, so we're not totally sold on him yet, but he's an every down 'backer who is also involved in the team's base 3-4 and dime packages so the potential for some points is there. |

Packers | D.J. Smith won't compete with A.J. Hawk Tue Jun 26, 03:38 PM
Green Bay Packers LB D.J. Smith will not compete with LB A.J. Hawk because Smith doesn't play the same position as Hawk on defense. Smith serves as the backup to Hawk in the team's 3-4 defense. 'You can say it's kind of minor, but it's kind of a big difference,' Smith said. 'It's still a middle linebacker, but one position (Hawk's) has more responsibility than the other. When it comes to A.J.'s spot, he's the signal caller. He's the guy that runs the show. He's the quarterback of the whole thing. He gets guys lined up, ready to go and makes all the checks when things switch around.' LB Desmond Bishop is the 'mack' linebacker while Hawk is the 'buck' linebacker in this system. LB Robert Francois is likely Hawk's backup in case of injury.

Packers | LB coach confident in A.J. Hawk Fri Jun 22, 03:28 PM
Green Bay Packers inside linebackers coach Winston Moss said he is confident LB A.J. Hawk will play well this season and make more plays than he did in 2011. 'I'm fine with what A.J. is doing. But on the flipside of that, you want your guys being impactful and making plays. He didn't do it last year and I'm sure he's not satisfied. He's going to respond accordingly,' Moss said. Moss said Hawk did not have a down year last season but did not make as many impact plays as the team would have liked.

Packers | Will be ready following lockout Thu Jun 23, 11:03 AM
Green Bay Packers LB A.J. Hawk does not think the time lost during the NFL lockout will impact the team as much as teams rebuilding or with coaching changes. 'We haven't had any full team workouts. We've had small groups of guys here and there working out together,' Hawk said. 'The great thing about Green Bay is we're not banking on having any rookies coming in and play. We have a lot of guys who are accountable and take care of their bodies this whole summer.'
