Bengals | Derrick Harvey released Sun Aug 5, 07:37 PM
The Cincinnati Bengals released DL Derrick Harvey Sunday, Aug. 5.
Footballguys view: This first-round bust may have seen his final stop in the NFL. He never developed his raw athleticism into the pass rushing threat the Jaguars envisioned when they took him in the first-round of the 2008 NFL Draft. |

Broncos | Derrick Harvey expected to see playing time Sat Sep 17, 11:43 AM
Denver Broncos DE Derrick Harvey is expected to share playing time with DE Jason Hunter at defensive end in Week 2 because of the injury to DE Elvis Dumervil (shoulder).
Footballguys view: Hunter was one of the few Broncos to play well in week one against the Raiders. He's a hustle player who gets by on great functional strength and a high motor. |

Broncos | To be limited on defense Thu Sep 15, 04:22 PM
The Denver Broncos will be missing several defensive bodies in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. DT Marcus Thomas (shoulder), D.J. Williams (elbow) and DT Ty Warren (triceps) are locks to be inactive. DL Elvis Dumervil (shoulder) said he won't play for the first few weeks, and CB Champ Bailey (hamstring) might also be out. If Bailey can't play, CB Cassius Vaughn will likely be the starting left cornerback, with CB Jonathan Wilhite playing the slot in nickel packages. DLs Derrick Harvey, Jason Hunter and Robert Ayers will likely rotate if Dumervil can't suit up.
Footballguys view: We like A.J. Green vs Cassius Vaughn more than we do Green vs Champ Bailey. The Broncos defense will have a hard time stopping Cedric Benson and the Bengals ground game. |

Jaguars | Hoping Derrick Harvey shows improvement Sat Jun 4, 04:48 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Gene Smith said the team is waiting for DE Derrick Harvey show take the next step in his development and hope it is next season. 'He was a high draft choice and he has had a lot of starts for us. He's still young. You hope at some point he's going to be able to make a move. He did not make that last year during the season. We had some guys earn the opportunity to play over him,' Smith said.
Footballguys view: This is certainly a make or break year for Harvey. If he doesn't play up to his potential and generate more sacks he could be on his way out of Jacksonville. |

Jaguars | Derrick Harvey benched Wed Oct 27, 01:21 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said DE Derrick Harvey has been benched, according to The Florida Times-Union's Vito Stellino.
Footballguys view: Harvey has never lived up to his potential in the pros, so this news isn't a shock. We'll see if he responds positively or negatively to being benched. |

Jaguars | Giving up on Derrick Harvey Tue Oct 5, 06:01 PM
The Jacksonville Jaguars appear to have given up on DL Derrick Harvey, according to The Associated Press. DL Jeremy Mincey is expected to receive Harvey's repetitions.
Footballguys view: Harvey has never lived up to his potential and it sounds like Jacksonville is sick of waiting for him. Coming out of Florida he was very raw but had a lot of potential. Harvey never seemed to play with any intensity and lacked focus from play to play in college. |

Jaguars | Leaner Harvey impresses during OTAs Sun Jun 13, 04:36 PM
Arthur Arkush, from ProFootballWeekly.com, reports former first-rounder DE Derrick Harvey knows this is a make-or-break season. Harvey, whom the Jaguars drafted eighth overall in 2008 in the belief he would become a menacing pass rusher, has mustered only 5½ sacks in two seasons. Jacksonville has spent the offseason completely revamping its defensive line. 2008 second-round pick Quentin Groves was traded to the Raiders, longtime Jaguar John Henderson was given his walking papers, DE Aaron Kampman was brought in to help an anemic pass rush, and the Jaguars used their first four picks in the draft on defensive linemen. If Harvey weren't facing enough pressure before, there is no question he is now. The way we hear it, Harvey has looked good so far in OTAs, having dropped 15 pounds, which has helped improve his quickness. New defensive line coach Joe Cullen, a notorious "pusher and screamer," is developing a nice rapport with the usually reserved Harvey and believes bigger does not always equal better for his players.

Jaguars | Cullen believes Harvey can make an impact Tue Feb 16, 02:22 PM
Gene Frenette, of The Florida Times-Union, reports Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line coach Joe Cullen said he has liked DE Derrick Harvey since scouting as a member of the Detroit Lions and believes Harvey can be an impact player. 'The qualities we saw in Derrick are still there. He's explosive, strong. He's going to be a powerful rusher. With more repetition and work, that can come out of him,' Cullen said.

Jaguars | Harvey to move to LDE Fri Nov 13, 12:18 AM
Jacksonville Jaguars DE Derrick Harvey will be moved to left defensive end, which is designed more for stopping the run. Harvey has not been effective in the team's pass rush this season, and the Jaguars' coaching staff isn't happy about it.
Derrick Harvey player pageJaguars | Harvey sits most of second half, no explanation Mon Sep 14, 07:47 PM
Vito Stellino, of the Florida Times-Union, reports that DE Derrick Harvey was did not play in the second half of the week 1 game vs. Indianapolis. Stellino writes that the Colts successfully ran at Harvey, and he didn't provide much of a pass rush. Quentin Groves replaced Harvey as a rush linebacker in the second half. Head coach Jack Del Rio had no answer for why Harvey didn't play more, saying, "That's a question I'll have to ask the staff. There's no reason why he shouldn't have been in there." Harvey himself also said he wasn't sure why he didn't play more
Footballguys view: Stellino told us no defensive player was more important to the Jags when we talked to him this summer, so this is obviously disconcerting. Peyton Manning was able to sit in the pocket and dissect the Jags defense, and Harvey's play/absence was part of the reason why. |

Jaguars | Putting in some 3-4 looks Thu Aug 13, 07:56 PM
JagNation.com notes that over the last week of camp the Jacksonville Jaguars have been employing several different 3-4 defensive looks. Many fans might find this a bit odd, since Jacksonville has always been a 4-3 base defense and head coach Jack Del Rio is a big proponent of the 4-3.
Footballguys view: The NFL is a copycat league, so even a traditional 4-3 team like Jacksonville is bound to throw in some 3-4 looks. Giving teams different looks on defense could confuse opponents, while at the same time making the most out of players like Quentin Groves at OLB, and Derrick Harvey at DE. |

Jaguars | Harvey as important as any player on the team Fri Jul 10, 05:37 PM
Vito Stellino, of the Florida Times-Union, reported in an interview with the Footballguys.com podcast, "The Audible", that second-year DE Derrick Harvey is "as important a player as there is on the team" because the Jags had so much trouble generating a pass rush last year. He said the team is hoping he'll make a similar second-year leap to the one Mario Williams made.
Footballguys view: Stellino also said that he considered Harvey a question mark because he didn't show that flash that you look for in a defensive end last year. We still think Harvey is worth a late pick as your DE3 in IDP leagues on the chance that it was mainly the missed time during his holdout that kept him from developing last year. |
