NFL | Marvin Harrison escapes injury in shooting    Sat Jun 14, 04:20 PM

Retired WR Marvin Harrison found a panicked man running down the street after his home was burglarized, and Harrison allowed him to jump in the bed of his truck. The burglars fired two shots in the direction of the truck, but neither of the men was injured.

Footballguys view: Harrison has been involved in some bizarre incidents since he retired. We're just glad nobody was injured.

Texans | Andre Johnson finishes stellar season    Mon Dec 30, 06:00 AM

With six catches and 49 yards on Sunday, Dec. 29, Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson finished with 109 catches, 1,407 yards and five touchdowns for the year. He joins Marvin Harrison as the only receivers with 100 catches and 1,400 yards in four seasons.

Footballguys view: If the Texans quarterback situation had been more stable, Johnson would have had an even bigger season. He has shown no signs of slowing down at age 32 and should be a strong third round pick again next year.

NFL | Marvin Harrison ordered to surrender handgun    Thu Jun 17, 03:02 PM

Unrestricted free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts) was ordered to surrender his handgun to police after a traffic stop Wednesday, June 16, and gun will be tested to see if it matches the casings involved in a shooting 2008, sources told Shaun Assael. Harrison has been a person of interest during the investigation of the shooting. The patrolman thought he had probable cause to search Harrison's car after Harrison produced a gun permit but said he did not have a gun after the patrolman saw Harrison place what appeared to be a weapon in the seat console in his car, according to sources.

NFL | Marvin Harrison found with gun    Wed Jun 16, 10:27 PM

Former NFL WR Marvin Harrison had a gun confiscated by police during a random traffic stop Wednesday, June 16, according to ESPN's Shaun Assael.

Footballguys view: Marvin Harrison packs more heat than John Marsten. Maybe he should start playing Red Dead Redemption on the Xbox if he wants to run around carrying guns.

NFL | FBI to help in case involving M. Harrison    Fri Jan 15, 12:03 PM

Shaun Asseal, of ESPN.com, reports the Philadelphia police have asked the FBI to help investigate whether the fatal shooting of a convicted drug dealer last July is related to an earlier incident in which the victim claimed that he was shot by former NFL WR Marvin Harrison, according to sources.

Colts | Will likely sign veteran WR, not Harrison    Mon Sep 14, 08:30 PM

Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian said the team would likely sign a veteran wide receiver to fill in for WR Anthony Gonzalez (knee), who is expected to miss up to six weeks with a knee injury. The Colts will not re-sign free-agent WR Marvin Harrison. Polian said, "It really is counterproductive to try to bring a player in who has not had any training camp, not had any offseason. That's especially true of someone at Marvin's age. It's very, very difficult to do and you're probably inviting injury upon injury.'"

Footballguys view: Amani Toomer is still out there, as are Matt Jones and DJ Hackett. The Eagles are making Hank Baskett available. It's a buyer's market for wide receivers.

NFL | Marvin Harrison not drawing much interest    Mon Sep 7, 01:43 AM

Mike Chappell, of The Indianapolis Star, reports free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts) received virtually no interest during the offseason or preseason from other teams.

Footballguys view: The only people bringing up Harrison in connection with teams needing wide receivers were members of the media and fans, not coaches or personnel people of the teams.

Colts | LAM begins     Mon Sep 7, 01:36 AM

Mike Chappell, of The Indianapolis Star, reports the Indianapolis Colts are entering LAM - Life after Marvin (Harrison) - this year. It has been odd not to see No. 88 on the field for many of the team's long-time players. 'I'm going to miss him,' QB Peyton Manning said. Manning's first completion in '98 was in a preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. Manning took a three-step drop and quickly hit Harrison on a slant, which Harrison took 48-yards for a score. 'I remember thinking, 'Wow, throwing to Marvin Harrison sounds like a pretty good idea,'' Manning said.

Footballguys view: Harrison didn't make the same kind of impact we've come to expect from him each of the last two seasons, so the offense could actually be more effective without Harrison.

Browns | Not interested in M. Harrison    Thu Aug 20, 08:30 PM

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini said the team hasn't really discussed the potential addition of free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts). 'Really, I'm looking forward to our group of receivers,' Mangini said.

Bears | Dungy would encourage team to sign Harrison if needed    Wed Aug 19, 02:16 PM

ESPNChicago.com reports former NFL head coach Tony Dungy said during a radio interview that he would encourage Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith to sign unrestricted free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts) if the team needed another receiver. 'I think he definitely can play, and I would encourage Lovie to sign him if they had an opening,' Dungy said.

Footballguys view: The Bears WR corps is full of question marks, and if they feel the young receivers on the roster aren't performing well, we could see them reach out to Marvin Harrison. The Titans are rumored to have interest in the veteran as well.

Jets | Looking to add another wideout    Wed Aug 19, 10:35 AM

Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Jets are exploring the wide-receiver market and have held preliminary discussions with a few teams, according to NFL sources. The team would be interested in acquiring Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall, even though he is not officially on the market. If the Jets do add a veteran receiver, it probably would not be a free agent such as WR Marvin Harrison (Colts).

Footballguys view: Cimini also throws Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe out there as a possibility, and mentions the Giants as a potential trade partner. Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum has made many trades during the preseason, most famously the acquisition of Brett Favre last year, so we should definitely take this seriously. We also shouldn't get too excited about Chansi Stuckey, David Clowney, or any other Jet contending to start opposite Jerricho Cotchery until this situation plays itself out.

Titans | Team is not pursuing Marvin Harrison    Tue Aug 18, 01:21 PM

Jim Wyatt, from the Tennessean, reports that he's been told nothing's going on between the Titans and the 36-year-old Harrison. For now, the Titans are more interested in getting rookie Kenny Britt up to speed, and coaches are very happy with what they've seen from veterans Justin Gage and Nate Washington.

Footballguys view: It's important to note that Wyatt said "for now" in this report, and he also added the Titans could sign a veteran receiver later because of the lack of experience behind Justin Gage and Nate Washington.

NFL | Shooting victim claims Harrison ordered hit on him    Fri Jul 24, 05:50 PM

David Gambacorta, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports that "moments after a gunman riddled Dwight Dixon with seven bullets, the bloodied 33-year-old told a police officer he believed the gunman had been hired by NFL star Marvin Harrison" according a law-enforcement source close to the investigation. Dixon is the man who claimed Harrison shot him last year, filed a civil lawsuit against him last fall, and planned filing another lawsuit this week. He is currently in a coma.

Footballguys view: Script writers have to be furiously taking notes on this story because they can't write stuff this good. There's entirely too much crossover between the crime beat and the sports beat these days.

NFL | Harrison will take his time before signing    Tue Jul 21, 01:37 PM

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports there has been speculation that free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts) might wait until the middle of training camp before making a decision on where he will sign.

Footballguys view: It's probably just a ploy to avoid training camp two-a-days. We won't draft Harrison regardless of where he ends up, expect maybe if Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez suffer season-ending injuries in camp and he signs with Indy.

Ravens | Harrison, Toomer possibilities?    Tue Jul 21, 09:38 AM

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports if the Baltimore Ravens cannot talk WR Derrick Mason out of retirement, they may start to look at possibilities such as free-agent WRs Marvin Harrison (Colts) and Amani Toomer (Giants).

Footballguys view: Seems like Clayton is speculating here, since Toomer is not among the four wideouts Baltimore is working out this Friday, and there has been nothing linking them to Harrison. Maybe the Friday workout is just an attempte by the Ravens to call Mason's bluff, and they'll bring in the real candidates next week if Mason doesn't come back into the fold.

Ravens | Harrison, Marshall among top options to replace Mason    Wed Jul 15, 07:20 PM

Jamison Hensley, of the Baltimore Sun, opined that the top five options to replace Derrick Mason are 1) Marvin Harrison, 2) Brandon Marshall 3) Anquan Boldin 4) Plaxico Burress, 5) Drew Bennett

Footballguys view: We like the options of Marshall and Boldin, especially if all the Ravens have to pay is a first-round pick. Marshall (and Burress) are character risks, but the Ravens seem to have a strong culture of accountability. We're afraid that Harrison might not have much left in the tank, and Bennett didn't have much in the tank to begin with.

Ravens | With Suggs deal done is a WR next?    Wed Jul 15, 01:51 PM

James Walker, from ESPN.com, reports now that Suggs is under contract expect the Ravens to immediately shift their focus to the wide receivers in an attempt to fill a huge void Mason left behind.

Footballguys view: There are a number of different directions the Ravens could go, and they must now be exploring all their options. Marvin Harrison, Matt Jones, Plaxico Burress, Ashley Lelie, Jerry Porter, and Amani Toomer could all be considered as well as possibly trading for Anquan Boldin, Braylon Edwards, or Brandon Marshall. The Ravens are known to avoid players with character concerns but they may have to make an exception in this situation.

Ravens | To show interest in Harrison?    Tue Jul 14, 09:36 AM

James Walker, of ESPN.com, reports the Baltimore Ravens could now show interest in free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts), with WR Derrick Mason expected to retire. Harrison would serve the role of a possession receiver, similar to what Mason's role with the team was.

NFL | Harrison below Toomer and Horn in evaluators' eyes    Thu Jul 2, 09:50 PM

Jason LaCanfora, of the NFL Network, reports that talent evaluators around the league believe that Marvin Harrison "may be done." They are rating other free agent receivers like Amani Toomer and Joe Horn higher than Harrison.

Footballguys view: This isn't surprising as Harrison's game seemed to lack desire last year. Even if he signs somewhere, we don't expect him to have any fantasy impact this year.

Vikings | Looking at M. Harrison?    Thu Jun 25, 12:14 PM

Charley Walters, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports the Minnesota Vikings are apparently interested in signing unrestricted free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts) to a one-year contract in order to compete with WR Sidney Rice.

Footballguys view: It's interesting in theory, but it's hard to believe a story printed under the headline "Don't Print That." Harrison isn't the same player that he used to be, and at this point Sidney Rice is an upgrade over the former Colts great. We think that Harrison will have to wait until injuries hit in training camp before he's signed by a new team.

Buccaneers | Interested in Harrison?    Mon Jun 15, 12:10 PM

Pat Yasinskas, of ESPN.com, reports a free-agent name associated with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is WR Marvin Harrison (Colts). Although no deal is imminent, there's been some contact between the Buccaneers and Harrison's representation.

Footballguys view: This move would make a lot of sense, and there has been rumored interest for some time now. The most impressive WR in minicamp behind Antonio Bryant has been 7th round pick Sammie Stroughter who is currently 5th on the depth chart. Harrison could serve as a mentor to some of the young WRs on the Bucs roster while also providing a slight upgrade to the position. The Buccaneers are said to be interested in Plaxico Burress as well.

Buccaneers | Very little to the Marvin Harrison rumors    Mon Jun 1, 09:40 PM

Roy Cummings from the Tampa Tribune has done a little digging on those Marvin Harrison rumors and as he suspected there's very little to them. The Bucs call about Harrison is said to have been "exploratory,'' which is a high-brow way of saying they probably did little more than ask how he was doing and what he was up to while talking to his agent about another client.

Footballguys view: There is a youth movement happening in Tampa Bay this year so signing Marvin Harrison would run contrary to that direction. Rookie slot receiver Sammie Stroughter has been wowing coaches in minicamp and could be more effective than Harrison at his advanced age.

NFL | Marvin Harrison getting interest from the Bucs?    Fri May 29, 08:49 PM

Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud has tweeted that the team might be interested in Marvin Harrison.

Footballguys view: The Buccaneers are thin at WR behind Antonio Bryant and have already expressed interest in Plaxico Burress as well. Harrison doesn't have much left in the tank, but could be an upgrade over the likes of Michael Clayton, Dexter Jackson or Maurice Stovall. The most impressive WR in Bucs camp has been 7th round slot receiver Sammie Stroughter.

NFL | M. Harrison not planning to retire    Thu May 7, 06:38 PM

Steve Wyche, of NFL.com, reports Tom Condon, agent for unrestricted free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts), said Harrison's knee is not an issue, and Harrison plans to play for a team this season.

Footballguys view: Condon may just be trying to get some buzz going for his client. It's been very silent on the Marvin Harrison front and he may have to wait for injuries to hit in camp before he is signed by a new team.

NFL | Harrison reportedly done playing    Wed May 6, 02:42 PM

Nate Davis, of USAToday.com, reports Sports Illustrated's Peter King said on his Twitter page that he has been told by reliable sources unrestricted free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts) will not play anymore because his knee is still bothering him.

Footballguys view: Gotta love twitter! This is not surprising news because no team has shown serious interest in Marvin Harrison since he was released by the Colts. Even Indianapolis seemed cool to the idea of bringing Harrison back in 2009.

NFL | No takers for Harrison so far    Wed Apr 8, 10:43 AM

Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports there are no indications free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts) is close to a deal with a team. 'I'm not surprised,' said analyst Charley Casserly. 'When I watch him as a player and look at the package, he's not going to get any better at this point in his career. He's been injury-prone the last two years. He's missed time. That has to be a consideration when you're going to sign a guy.'
