Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com, reports the New Orleans Saints have signed unrestricted free-agent WR Roy Hall (Colts) to a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Hall has good size, but was unable to take advantage of his opportunity with the Colts. Now that he's with the Saints he'll get a few more reps in minicamp with Robert Meachem battling back from a toe injury. |

Colts | WR3 by committee? Sun Aug 9, 10:39 AM
John Clayton, of ESPN, reports that while WR Pierre Garcon has the early lead for the third wide receiver job according to most reports, "this looks to be a position by committee."
Footballguys view: Clayton says Garcon has an "Anquan Boldin" type body, and Colts beat writer John Oehser complimented the aestethics of his game when he was on the Audible. Oehser also echoed Clayton's sentiment that this will be a role that uses multiple players, so even if Anthony Gonzalez or Reggie Wayne go down, there might not be a clear replacement to run to the waiver wire to pick up. |

Colts | Competition for No. 3 receiver spot Mon Jun 8, 11:26 AM
Paul Kuharsky, of ESPN.com, reports Indianapolis Colts WR Pierre Garcon, WR Austin Collie and WR Roy Hall are the prime candidates for the team's No. 3 wide receiver spot.
Footballguys view: This battle really comes down to Pierre Garcon vs rookie Austin Collie. Roy Hall is a big target, but he was raw coming out of Ohio State with fellow teammate Anthony Gonzalez and as of right now he is behind the other two. Garcon has quickness in and out of his breaks, the strength to run through arm tackles, and the type of sure hands every slot receiver needs. Collie is not as athletically gifted as Garcon, but he has an uncanny ability to catch nearly every pass - regardless of where it's thrown. He has deceptive speed and knows little ways to trick defensive backs that are covering him. We expect Garcon to win this competition - but it will be close because Collie is so talented. |

Colts | Manning challenges young receivers to step up Mon Jun 1, 10:05 AM
Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts WR Peyton Manning said he has challenged some of the team's younger wide receivers to emerge as the No. 3 receiver this season.
Footballguys view: 'Every one of those guys, I've told them, 'There's a receiver's spot open right now,' ' Manning said. The candidates, Manning said, 'need to be saying, 'Hey, that's my job to go win.' It doesn't matter how old you are, how many years you've been in the league. If you win the job, it's yours.' Pierre Garcon, Roy Hall, and rookie Austin Collie will all compete for the 3rd string WR position. |

Colts | Hall, Garcon candidates for No. 3 receiver job Sat May 30, 03:55 PM
Mike Chappell, of The Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts WR Roy Hall and WR Pierre Garcon are candidates for the team's No. 3 wide receiver job.
Footballguys view: Roy Hall was a college teammate of Anthony Gonzalez at Ohio State. He is a big and strong receiver, but he is still raw as a route runner. Pierre Garcon can help out on special teams if he doesn't get on the field much as a receiver. He has good quickness in and out of his breaks, plus he's a hustle player. The receiver to watch out for here is rookie Austin Collie. He's not the biggest or the fastest WR in the game, he just makes plays. Collie has glue like hands, and knows several subtle ways to get open against tight coverage. However, remember the 3rd WR in Indy is often the 4th target when Manning goes through his progressions. TE Dallas Clark will get plenty of looks - and more than the 3rd WR in this offense. |
