Rams | Todd Gurley logs 50-plus snaps in opener    Mon Sep 9, 03:44 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) was on the field for 54 of the team's 76 offensive snaps in Week 1 against Carolina Panthers.

Footballguys view: Gurley played a lot of snaps but he was splitting time with Malcolm Brown against the Panthers. While Gurley had 15 touches, Brown had 11 on Sunday. This looks like an approximation of the split going forward and Fantasy GMs need to adjust their projections and expectations accordingly.

Rams | No limits on Todd Gurley in opener    Thu Sep 5, 04:21 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) will not be on a 'pitch count' in Week 1 versus the Carolina Panthers, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Footballguys view: McVay has never told us the truth about Gurley, so don't be shocked if he has less than typical volume for a #1 back. He's still worth starting as he's as healthy as he'll be all year.

Rams | Todd Gurley unlikely to go to Hawaii    Tue Aug 13, 09:33 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) is not expected to travel with the team as it heads to Hawaii to play the Dallas Cowboys in exhibition game Saturday, Aug. 17.'That's something that I would say, more likely than not, but we're still working through the specifics of that as we kind of get closer and closer to that. I don't have the full answer, but more likely than not, he will not go,' head coach Sean McVay said.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. We won't any of Gurley in the preseason as he's on McVay's 'veteran plan' for training camp. The Rams want to keep him fresh for the start of the regular season.

Rams | Todd Gurley on preservation plan    Sun Jul 28, 02:49 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley will be on a 'veteran plan' during training camp, getting interspersed rest days, and will not play in the preseason as the Rams aim to have him in optimal shape for the regular season. 'There will be (days he doesn't practice),' Rams coach Sean McVay said. 'There will be some days that -- depending upon his workload and looking toward that (Week 1) Carolina game -- we might look at treating him like we have some of those veteran players. Todd really has become a veteran player.'

Footballguys view: The Rams are spinning this positively, but Gurley is 24, turning 25 next week, and this is not business as usual for a player that age. It sounds like were are not going to get more information to help guide us in drafts and the current position fantasy players have taken on Gurley is what they will take into drafts.

Rams | Todd Gurley to take part in camp Saturday    Fri Jul 26, 03:50 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) will be on the field for the start of training camp workouts Saturday, July 27, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Footballguys view: This is a relief after it wasn't announced that he avoided the PUP. We'll see how much the Rams manage his practice workload as a sign of how much to be worried about his knee and how much his regular season workload will be limited.

Rams | Todd Gurley intends to play at 218 pounds    Tue Jul 23, 03:31 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) wants to play the 2019 season at 218 pounds after playing most of his career around 224 pounds, according to NFL.com's Steve Wyche.

Footballguys view: We'll see if the lighter weight helps keep Gurley healthy this year. His knee history is a huge concern for Fantasy GMs and that's why Gurley's average draft position is near the top of the second round instead of being at the top of the first like it has been since he entered the league.

Rams | Todd Gurley proclaimed ready by coach    Fri Jul 19, 12:18 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) received a vote of health and confidence Thursday, July 18, from head coach Sean McVay, who was a guest on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. 'I think he's feeling great,' McVay said on the show of Gurley. 'I think, you know, one of the things about Todd is (he's a) great competitor. I think he's earned the right to be able to have the plan that we had this offseason. Can't wait to get him back going. I know he's ready to go and it's going to be fun for the Rams this year.'

Footballguys view: Gurley's knee problem has made his draft stock fall a bit this summer. He's got a current ADP of RB11 (2.05) in 12-team PPR leagues. His knee scares Fantasy GMs just a bit and so does the fact that the Rams could use guys like Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown a bit more to give Gurley a breather.

Rams | Todd Gurley not changing style    Wed Jul 10, 02:54 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) said he does not plan to change his playing style even though he has been dealing with knee issues.

Footballguys view: That's cool, but let's see if he can hold up. Reports this offseason have speculated the Rams want to manage Gurley's workload better, leading Fantasy GMs to let the superstar back fall to the first-round/second-round turn in fantasy drafts. He won't be used in the preseason (per GM Les Snead), so expect his ADP to stay in the same area for those of you drafting in late August.

Rams | Todd Gurley happy with time off    Tue Jul 9, 10:51 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) believes sitting out organized team activities and spring workouts was good for him and 'everything went well.'

Footballguys view: Gurley's knee trouble has caused his fantasy stock to drop. Fantasy GMs are concerned about his availability, especially late in the season (see 2018). Gurley is likely to be available at the first turn in your fantasy draft, so be ready to make a decision on how much you trust him and that knee. Gurley has a current ADP of RB11 (2.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Rams | Todd Gurley churns out yards after contact    Mon Jul 8, 05:01 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley has recorded 2,192 yards after contact since 2016 - the second-highest total in the league over that span - according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: That's what Gurley does...and maybe used to do. We hope beyond hope that Gurley can return to his old form, but the knee problems from last year have put a scare in the fantasy community. Gurley has top-5 talent as a pro running back, but he's falling to RB11 (2.05) in 12-team PPR leagues as people are rightly concerned about his knee. Gurley could pay off big time if he can produce like the top-tier back he used to be.

Rams | Trainer confirms Todd Gurley's arthritic knee    Mon Jun 17, 04:07 PM

Updating previous reports. Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) is in fact dealing with arthritis in his knee after months of speculation. Travelle Gaines, who has trained Gurley for three years, suggested 'not one thing has changed' in regards to his client and that 'our routine has worked, he's been strong, he's been in great shape, he's done well.' Gaines went on to say the decision this offseason to have Gurley drop six pounds and trim his body fat from 10 percent to seven was not due to injuries and more to accentuate his speed. The trainer also said 'it's never been told to me' that the Rams plan on decreasing Gurley's workload come Week 1.'Everybody knew when Todd came out of Georgia that there would be some kind of arthritic component to his knee, which is part of every surgery whether it's a shoulder, a knee, an ankle. He's now at the Year 5 mark; all we're doing is managing that. If we can pound him less in the offseason while keeping his weight down, working on his strength, working on his agility in short areas, that's going to give him a better chance to be healthy Weeks 14 through 17 when they really count,' Gaines said.

Footballguys view: Gaines has been a trainer for some of the best players in the NFL (and the NBA too), so we'll listen to what he has to say about Gurley. The veteran superstar RB has seen his ADP slide in recent weeks as Fantasy GMs are nervous about his knee condition and about the Rams perhaps using more Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson to spell Gurley in 2019. Gurley now is a boom/bust pick for Fantasy GMs in the early second round.

Rams | Todd Gurley downplays knee issue    Tue Jun 11, 05:35 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) told reporters Tuesday, June 11, that he is 'fine' and 'doing the same kinds of things he's always done in the offseason. He also suggested the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered in college was a 'bigger problem' for him coming out of college than his current issue.

Footballguys view: Gurley may think he's 'fine' but Fantasy GMs are not feeling the same way. There is a ton of hesitation (for good reason) when it comes to selecting Gurley with a top-10 fantasy pick. We are hearing the team could use Darrell Henderson or Malcolm Brown a little bit more to give Gurley a breather. There are also reports about Gurley's role being smaller than it has been in the past. Oh yeah, Gurley is unlikely to play in the preseason too. Gurley has superstar talent but we'll have to see what the news brings for him and the offense in training camp. Stay tuned.

Rams | LAR want Todd Gurley to be comfortable    Mon Jun 3, 10:20 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley may look to lose some weight in order to reduce some of the stress on his knee, and head coach Sean McVay said Gurley can do what he wants so he can feel comfortable with his knee.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs want to be comfortable with Gurley, and they are not right now. The Rams are unlikely to continue using Gurley as a true bellcow back. He's a late first-round pick in most fantasy drafts right now, and Gurley is likely to split time in the backfield this season. Rookie Darrell Henderson is a player we're excited to see in the preseason. The Rams could use Henderson and Malcolm Brown a bit more in 2019 to give Gurley a breather.

Rams | Todd Gurley unlikely to play in preseason    Fri May 31, 05:54 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley likely will not see any playing time during the preseason, according to general manager Les Snead.

Footballguys view: The mystery around Todd Gurley continues. The knee problem he had at the end of last year has impacted the way the team is treating him this offseason. They may use more Malcolm Brown or Darrell Henderson this season when Gurley needs a breather. He's trimmed down his weight and now the team isn't going to use him in the preseason. Gurley is at RB7 right now in 12-team PPR leagues and this news may drop his ADP slightly.

Rams | Todd Gurley slimming down    Thu May 30, 02:38 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) reportedly plans on playing about six pounds lighter this season, according to NFL Network's Steve Wyche.

Footballguys view: The reduced weight could be better for his knee in 2019. Gurley wore down late last season and wasn't himself when he returned for the Rams in the postseason. The weight is one thing, but the Rams should also use a little bit more of guys like Malcolm Brown or rookie Darrell Henderson just to give Gurley a breather.

Rams | Todd Gurley working out at team facility    Tue May 28, 06:38 PM

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) has been a regular at the team facility this offseason, according to head coach Sean McVay, despite his absence from organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: Gurley's knee was problematic last year towards the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. We should see Gurley get more of a breather this year with guys like Malcolm Brown or Darrell Henderson getting a big of work running the rock. McVay added the team plans to hold Gurley out of practice in the offseason. We'd speculate the team limits Gurley in the preseason schedule too.

Rams | No sign of Todd Gurley at OTAs    Tue May 28, 03:32 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) was not on the field as the team kicked off its second week of organized team activities Tuesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: Gurley's knee became a big problem at the end of the 2018 season and in the postseason, leading to C.J. Anderson emerging as their most productive back. Anderson is gone to the Lions, so the Rams are looking at Malcolm Brown and rookie Darrell Henderson as running back mates with Gurley. We love Gurley's ability but the role might be different this year if Brown or Henderson are mixed in a bit more. His current ADP is RB7 (1.10) in 12-team PPR leagues and at that price point we're looking elsewhere.

Rams | Todd Gurley feeling better    Mon Apr 15, 07:20 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) said his knee is feeling better and does not expect it to be a long-term issue.

Footballguys view: Gurley's knee injury bothered him down the stretch of the 2018 season and he had to miss time, leading to C.J. Anderson emerging for the Rams before and during the postseason. Anderson is gone to the Lions and Gurley is feeling better. We know he's a stud when healthy and hopefully he gets back to his studly ways in 2019.

Rams | Todd Gurley's importance unlikely to change    Fri Apr 12, 03:49 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) will 'continue to be a central piece of our offense and I don't see that changing,' head coach Sean McVay told The Rich Eisen Show on Friday, April 12.

Footballguys view: Gurley should be the centerpiece of what the Rams do on offense. They need to run the ball effectively in order to set up the play-action passing game for Jared Goff and the rest of the offense. We'll see if Gurley can stay healthy this year and not get slowed down by a knee problem like he did at the end of the 2018 season.

Rams | Todd Gurley has arthritis    Sat Mar 2, 12:57 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) is dealing with arthritis in his knee, according to a source.

Footballguys view: And the truth shall set you free! There has been a ton of mystery surrounding Gurley's knee and his usage during the Rams playoff run. Gurley is looking at stem cell procedures that could help with his knee. Expect the Rams to lighten the workload for the superstar running back so this knee doesn't continue to give him problems.

Rams | LA Rams to keep eye on Todd Gurley's usage    Fri Mar 1, 02:00 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley will likely have his workload monitored more often moving forward, according to comments made by general manager Les Snead on Thursday, Feb. 28.'I think where we have to go is to fast forward to now is with Todd, he's had a lot of carries since he's come in the league, a lot of yards, a lot of touchdowns ... things like that. Obviously, senior year, junior year, Georgia, (tore) the ACL, so over that time there's an element of wear and tear and I think we have to determine in probably two stages: are we going to give him the amount of load that he's had in the past or are we going to lessen that load to let's say keep him fresher for the season and for the seasons beyond. If you go that route, you have to have a good, let's call it Batman and Robin combination or add another superhero figure into that and figure how you're going to do it. ... It's something we want to be intentional about and proactive,' Snead said.

Rams | New information on Todd Gurley's injury?    Wed Feb 20, 11:48 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) was 'more hurt than we thought' and could have been dealing with a sprained knee as opposed to knee inflammation, as head coach Sean McVay and the team indicated during the season, according to comments made by C.J. Anderson on Fox Sports 1's 'Undisputed' on Tuesday, Feb. 19.'The injury was a little bit more than what everybody in the building thought, including himself. ... Yeah, he'd never really tell me. ... I would say sprained knee. Obviously, it's the same knee injury he's had before in his career. Obviously, I had surgery on my meniscus and once you have a knee, you always have a knee. So it aggravates and if he was getting a lot of touches earlier in the year -- obviously him being one of the best backs, that probably was the case,' Anderson said.

Footballguys view: Gurley just wasn't himself in the playoffs and certainly in the Super Bowl. We'll see him get rest this offseason with the chance to be 100 percent by the time the regular season gets here.

Rams | Todd Gurley won't need surgery    Tue Feb 5, 04:27 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) does not need any medical procedures on the knee that bothered him later in the season. Gurley and the Rams went through physical examinations Tuesday, Feb. 5, but head coach Sean McVay said he had not talked to team trainers about those exams yet.

Footballguys view: Gurley swears up and down that he was healthy during the postseason. His usage during the playoffs was criminal if he was truly healthy. The Rams should have used him as much as possible, but instead Gurley only had 14 carries in two games (NFC Championship, Super Bowl). We'll see Gurley get work in this offseason.

Rams | Todd Gurley a big part of game plan    Tue Jan 29, 11:56 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley will be a big part of game plan in the Super Bowl, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Footballguys view: Gurley has been outplayed by CJ Anderson down the stretch, and probably not strictly because of Gurley's knee injury. This could be a fluid situation as the game goes on depending on whether Gurley improves from the poor play he displayed on his handful of snaps against the Saints.

Rams | Todd Gurley claims knee is fine    Sat Jan 26, 09:31 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley claimed that his knee is not injured and that his lack of involvement in the offense during the NFC Championship Game was based on a lackluster performance.

Footballguys view: That's cool that he says his knee is okay...but the eye test showed something different in the NFC Championship Game. Gurley touched the ball just five times, including four carries, in their win over the New Orleans Saints and was on the field for just 46 percent of the Rams' offensive snaps.

Rams | Teammate has faith in Todd Gurley    Fri Jan 25, 12:07 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley will bounce back with a strong game in Super Bowl LIII after rushing for 10 yards and a TD on four carries and catching one pass for three yards in the NFC Championship Game on Jan. 20, in the opinion of QB Jared Goff. I expect him to have a big game,' Goff said Thursday, Jan. 24. 'He's going to go out there and do everything he normally does. For whatever (reason) -- last week wasn't his and it happens. It's not the end of the world. I think he knows that and approaches it like a pro.'

Footballguys view: Gurley doesn't quite seem like himself after only getting four carries in the NFC Championship Game, yet the team insists that he's healthy enough to play. If Gurley needs a breather during the Super Bowl, the Rams can confidently turn to C.J. Anderson to carry the load.

Rams | Todd Gurley doesn't have great matchup    Tue Jan 22, 10:23 AM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley has a tough matchup in the Super Bowl against a New England Patriots defense that has quietly stymied opposing running backs of late.

Footballguys view: For the regular season in 2018, the Patriots rush defense ranked 11th best in the league by allowing only a average of 112.7 rushing yards per game. During the postseason, the Patriots rush defense is best in the league only allowing an average of 30.0 (yes, 30!) rushing yards per game.

Rams | No injury for Todd Gurley?    Sun Jan 20, 11:18 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley's lack of involvement in the offense against the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship Game was because of the 'flow' of the game, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Footballguys view: It's difficult to believe McVay's 'flow' comment based on the limited touches for Gurley. He's got two weeks before the Super Bowl matchup against the Patriots, so we'll see if that extra time gets him feeling better and more into the 'flow' when it comes to the big game.

Footballguys view: The Rams should rest Gurley this week even though there's something on the line against the 49ers with the #2 seed still not secured. CJ Anderson was outstanding last week and the offense can handle their business with him at running back.

Rams | Todd Gurley not practicing    Thu Dec 27, 04:37 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) missed another practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

Footballguys view: CJ Anderson could be an excellent play again in Week 17 if Gurley can't go. Even with the #2 seed hanging in the balance, the Rams would be smart to let Gurley rest.
