Rams | RB Mason has slimmed down Mon Jun 22, 09:10 PM
Joe Lyons, from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports that St. Louis Rams second-year running back Tre Mason has lost weight this offseason. He's down to between 195 and 200 pounds in an effort to help improve his speed. Mason will spend the next month or so working alongside cornerback and teammate Janoris Jenkins with trainer Tony Villiani at XPE Sports in Florida.
| Footballguys view: The Rams selected potential superstar running back Todd Gurley in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft--even after Mason turned in a solid rookie season in 2014. Mason should begin the season as the starter as Gurley has yet to practice this offseason as he continues to rehab the knee injury he suffered last year in college at Georgia. Once Gurley is healthy, expect the Rams to ease himi into the lineup and start chipping away at Mason's touches. |

Ben Volin, from the Boston Globe, reports that only the first two years of St. Louis Rams rookie RB Todd Gurley's contract are guaranteed. If the Rams cut him because of his preexisting knee injury, then the final two years of his contract are void. That's an unusually structured deal given that Gurley was a premium pick in the 2015 NFL draft.
| Footballguys view: The Rams had to protect themselves due to Gurley's knee injury, and that's what they did with this contract. Gurley has superstar potential if healthy, and he's betting on himself by signing this deal. He could start the season on the PUP list, and the Rams may have to start Tre Mason at the beginning of the year. When healthy, Gurley could be eased into the starting role. His ADP of RB24 (5.05) in 12-team PPR leagues seems a bit optimistic for a player who has yet to practice this offseason. We LOVE Gurley, but proceed with caution until we know more about his injury status. |

The Ravens signed Gurley to a one-year $405,000 contract January 3, 2013. He may latch on with some other team as a camp body. |

Green Bay Packers WR Tori Gurley is making plays in the red zone during training camp. He is part of a deep receiver corps for the Packers, but he is trying to force his way into the mix for a job. He is still raw, and getting separation might be a problem for Gurley. However, no other receiver in camp boasts his combination of height (6-foot-4), weight and long arms. Gurley added 14 pounds to his frame during the offseason, and he used a regimen of boxing, basketball and weightlifting to improve.
| Footballguys view: Gurley isn't like any other receiver on the roster with his big frame and blockout ability in the red zone. He could force the Packers to carry six wide receivers. If they try to stash him on the practice squad, he'll surely be signed by another team, although Gurley chose to stay on the Packers farm team when that happened last year. |

The team usually carries five receivers on their roster, and it appears WRs Greg Jennings, James Jones, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Donald Driver are a pretty safe lock to make the team's final roster. They could opt to keep six receivers this year, but they would have to sacrifice depth at another position.
