Panthers | Will Grier to start again    Mon Dec 23, 04:48 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Will Grier will be the starting quarterback for the team's Week 17 game, according to interim head coach Perry Fewell.

Footballguys view: The Panthers new ownership wants to take a look at Grier again so they can make a determination on him for 2020. Grier struggled in his debut but should still continue peppering passes to RB Christian McCaffrey.

Panthers | Will Grier mistake-prone in first start    Sun Dec 22, 04:58 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Will Grier completed 27-of-44 passes for 224 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts in his first NFL start.

Footballguys view: Grier wasn't a total disaster, but he was close. The Panthers offense never really got going today after losing DJ Moore early and only moved the ball because they have Christian McCaffrey. The Saints defense will get to tee off on him in Week 17 if Perry Fewell puts him back out there.

Panthers | Will Grier named Week 16 starter    Thu Dec 19, 01:23 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Will Grier was named the team's starting quarterback for the game Sunday, Dec. 22, against the Indianapolis Colts, according to interim head coach Perry Fewell Thursday, Dec. 19.

Footballguys view: This move was fully expected, and we're excited to see what the rookie can do. Grier had a gun-slinger mentality in college at West Virginia, but he was mostly bad in the preseason. Grier starting nerfs the expectations for guys like D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel. Adjust your lineup accordingly.

Panthers | Will Grier expected to get Week 16 nod    Mon Dec 16, 02:20 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Will Grier is reportedly considered likely to start in Week 16 versus the Indianapolis Colts, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Panthers quarterback in 2020 is unlikely to be Kyle Allen. Things have fallen off after flashing early when Allen initially took over for an injured Cam Newton. Grier was a third-round pick out of West Virginia for the Panthers in the 2019 NFL draft. He's got a gunslinger mentality but did not wow as much as some expected in the preseason.

The Carolina Panthers have declared OT Greg Little, OL Brandon Greene, WR Brandon Zylstra, DE Bruce Irvin, DL Vernon Butler, QB Will Grier and CB Rashaan Gaulden inactive for Week 2.

Footballguys view: Irvin will miss another week as first-round pick Brian Burns will get more opportunities to chase Jameis Winston tonight.

The Carolina Panthers have declared OT Greg Little, OL Brandon Greene, WR Brandon Zylstra, DE Bruce Irvin, DL Vernon Butler, QB Will Grier and LB Jordan Kunaszyk inactive for Week 1.

Panthers | Taylor Heinicke to get a look at QB2?    Sat Aug 17, 02:13 AM

Carolina Panthers QB Taylor Heinicke could be thrust back into the mix for the No. 2 quarterback job after completing 8 of 12 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills on Friday, Aug. 16, in the opinion of ESPN's David Newton.

Footballguys view: The Panthers other backup quarterbacks, Kyle Allen and Will Grier, have had struggles this training camp and preseason. Heinicke is also familiar with offensive coordinator Norv Turner and seems to have a leg up on the competition.

Panthers | Taylor Heinicke leading QB2 race    Wed Jul 10, 01:56 AM

Carolina Panthers QB Taylor Heinicke was more impressive than QBs Will Grier and Kyle Allen this spring, according to the Charlotte Observer's Brendan Marks, who predicts Heinicke will open the 2019 season as the backup with Grier in the third spot. Marks believes the team will try to stash Allen on the practice squad, but other teams could be interested.

Footballguys view: Heinicke has always had talent as a passer, mostly his touch and accuracy on short-to-intermediate throws. We don't think he holds off the rookie Grier for that long, and we'll be watching both closely in the preseason. Grier is a player we have a lot of appreciation for in dynasty formats. Heinicke has backup written all over him, while Grier has the upside to one day be a starter (and maybe a good one) in the future.
