Titans | Shonn Greene released    Tue Jun 16, 01:21 PM

Updating a previous report, the Tennessee Titans released RB Shonn Greene Tuesday, June 16.

Footballguys view: This was a no-brainer transaction. The Titans added both David Cobb and Jalston Fowler (fullback) in the 2015 NFL draft to boost their ground game. They still have Bishop Sankey on the roster, and he's looking to produce better numbers than he did last year as a rookie. Greene was set to make $3.3 million this year and was skipping voluntary workouts due to personal reasons. Big backs who don't produce don't get much love on the open market. Greene's playing days may be done.

Titans | Shonn Greene plans to attend minicamp    Mon Jun 15, 01:25 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene has skipped the voluntary workouts this offseason but plans to participate in the mandatory minicamp this week, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Greene is trying to find a spot with the Titans after they added running back talent in the draft. We like David Cobb and Jalston Fowler (fullback) to eventually lead the rushing attack for the Titans. Bishop Sankey is still around to put up a fight for the starting spot as well. Greene has the most experience of anyone in the Titans backfield, but he could be on the outside looking in when the regular season gets here.

Titans | Shonn Greene not with team    Wed May 6, 12:12 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene is not participating in offseason workouts because of a family issue.

Footballguys view: Not a big deal here. Greene is expected to participate in the mandatory minicamp in June. With rookies Jalston Fowler (fullback) and David Cobb (running back), we should see the Titans have a power ground game to help out young QB Marcus Mariota.

Titans | Shonn Greene featured in Week 15    Mon Dec 15, 10:44 AM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene had a season-high 16 carries for 50 yards Sunday, Dec. 14. Greene had 16 carries in the previous five games combined. RB Bishop Sankey had just three carries for eight yards.

Footballguys view: When Shonn Greene is keeping you from playing more, it's not a good sign for your potential. Sankey has gotten plenty of opportunity as a rookie, but he's just not impressing.

Titans | Shonn Greene out Sunday    Sun Dec 7, 11:18 AM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene is inactive Sunday, Dec. 7.

Footballguys view: Antonio Andrews will get a chance to get his foot in the door in the power running game, but this could also make Bishop Sankey a more attractive what the heck flex.

Titans | Shonn Greene to work in base sets    Wed Nov 5, 11:07 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene has seen few carries with the team working out of three-wide personnel sets. The Titans have rushed the ball 184 times this season, with 92 carries in three-wide sets. Greene has been the ball carrier just seven times in those 92 plays. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Wednesday, Nov. 5, that he hopes the team is running well out of base sets, which will create more chances for Greene.

Footballguys view: Greene isn't, nor has he ever been, terribly impressive and as mediocre as rookie Bishop Sankey has been, Greene is still second banana. Who's the opposite of The Flash? Molasses Man? The Turtle? That's Greene. So be like the Flash and run away from him.

Titans | Shonn Greene arrested    Sat Oct 25, 11:39 AM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene was arrested Friday, Oct. 24, and charged with a handicap parking violation, driving on a revoked/suspended license, reckless driving and resisting stop/halt/frisk.

Footballguys view: Maybe Greene didn't want to get frisky? On a serious note, the league could take action here but it could take months for the legal process to run its course.

Titans | Shonn Greene probable    Fri Oct 24, 03:35 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 24, and is listed as probable for Week 8.

Footballguys view: Bishop Sankey should still be the only Titans back even worth rostering right now, and with rookie QB Zach Mettenberger getting broken in, it's probably best to just avoid the entire Titans offense for now.

Titans | Shonn Green limited again    Thu Oct 23, 05:41 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (hamstring) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 23.

Footballguys view: We'll see Bishop Sankey as the lead back for the Titans in Week 8 against the Texans. The rookie hasn't been overly impressive, but it looks like Greene's role (if he plays) will be a small one.

Titans | Shonn Greene doesn't do all drills    Wed Oct 22, 04:11 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 22.

Footballguys view: The Titans brought up Antonio Andrews off their practice squad earlier this week. Greene might be back soon, but he'll still be a reserve player behind Bishop Sankey. He has little fantasy value.

The Tennessee Titans have declared LB Akeem Ayers, CB Coty Sensabaugh, QB Jake Locker, DL Ropati Pitoitua, RB Shonn Greene, TE Taylor Thompson, OT Will Svitek inactive for Week 7.

Footballguys view: Charlie Whitehurst gets another start, and the matchup against Washington gives him a reasonably high ceiling. Bishop Sankey should get a lot of work again today with Greene out.

Titans | Shonn Greene ruled out    Thu Oct 16, 07:26 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 7, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Without Greene, we should continue to see more from rookie Bishop Sankey. More doesn't mean a lot...so only consider Sankey a RB3/flex play in Week 7.

Titans | Shonn Greene out again    Thu Oct 16, 06:02 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (hamstring) did not practice for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 16.

The Tennessee Titans have declared LB Akeem Ayers, CB Brandon Ghee, CB Coty Sensabaugh, TE Craig Stevens, QB Jake Locker, RB Shonn Greene, TE Taylor Thompson inactive for Week 6.

Titans | Shonn Greene doubtful    Fri Oct 10, 02:21 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (hamstring) missed practice again Friday, Oct. 10, and is listed as doubtful for Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Bishop Sankey's big shot will come at a great time - against the hapless Jaguars defense. He's worth a flex start and certainly shouldn't be sitting on any waiver wires.

Titans | Shonn Greene could miss Week 6    Thu Oct 9, 03:54 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (hamstring) said the hamstring he injured during practice Wednesday, Oct. 8, is pretty sore. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said he is not sure if Greene will be able to play in Week 6.

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene received a team-high 15 carries in Week 1 and led the team with 71 rushing yards.

Titans | Shonn Greene meets weight    Mon Aug 25, 08:58 AM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene lost five to 10 pounds to meet the team's weight goal after he missed most of camp due to knee surgery.

Footballguys view: Greene has battled back from this knee injury, and he's doing what the team wants him to do in order to see the field. We can't rely on Greene as a fantasy asset because we're expecting rookie Bishop Sankey to take over as the team's featured back.

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (knee) returned to practice Monday, Aug. 18. QB Charlie Whitehurst (finger) and OT Taylor Lewan (ankle) did not practice.

Footballguys view: Bishop Sankey owners will have to wait for the injury that opens the door to more work for the rookie. Greene is actually gaining some value if he can stay healthy because Sankey has had some ball security issues.

Titans | Shonn Greene thinks he'll be fine    Sat Aug 16, 12:46 AM

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (knee) said Friday, Aug. 15, that he suffered a hyperextended knee in the preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. Greene suspects he will be OK.

Footballguys view: The last time we checked, Greene was not a doctor. He's had knee problems this entire offseason, so even something as minor as a hyperextension could slow him down more than some (Greene included) think.

Titans | Shonn Greene leaves practice    Tue Jul 29, 04:16 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene left practice with a trainer Tuesday, July 28. Greene missed time this offseason with a right knee injury, but this could be something different.

Footballguys view: Greene may be squarely on the roster bubble this year. Fantasy owners are salivating at the idea of rookie Bishop Sankey being the lead back for the Titans without Greene taking away any touches. Sankey's ADP is RB20 (4.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Titans | Looking for Shonn Greene to lose weight    Mon Jul 28, 01:05 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene needs to lose five to ten pounds during training camp, according to the coaching staff.

Footballguys view: Greene is coming off of knee surgery, so this isn't as bad as the typical "out of shape" camp report, but Greene certainly is doing nothing to hold off second-round pick Bishop Sankey while he is just trying to drop weight. Undrafted rookie Antonio Andrew is a name to remember if Greene struggles to get to where the coaches want him to be, and journeyman Jackie Battle could also play a larger role.

Titans | Shonn Greene good to go    Fri Jul 25, 12:52 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (knee) is ready for training camp after missing time in the offseason due to a right knee injury, according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Footballguys view: Shonn Greene is so average, he makes average backs look exciting. A one-dimensional back with two gears - kinda slow and almost as slow - he will lose this job to rookie Bishop Sankey. The only question is when.Right now we see him as a RB5, while Sankey is our pick for the offense as a low-end RB2 or a high-end RB3. A versatile, multidimensional back, Sankey can run well between the tackles an catch the ball a bit. How much he is ultimately on the field might depend on pass-blocking, but we're bullish on him.

Titans | Shonn Greene no lock to make roster    Tue Jul 15, 12:14 AM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (knee) could be cut if his injured right knee continues to prevent him from working out this offseason, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. Wyatt believes the team will opt to save the $2.3 million it owes Greene if he won't be able to contribute.

Footballguys view: An interesting thing for fantasy owners to keep an eye on here. If Greene is not healthy and released, the team would turn to rookie Bishop Sankey as their top running back. With a poor offensive line, Sankey had to do a lot of creating on his own during his college career at Washington. He's a jump-cutter who loves to make defenders miss. He has soft hands as a receiver and puts forth good effort in pass-protection. However, he struggles to keep his feet after contact and lacks any elite trait. His current ADP is RB20 (4.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Titans | Shonn Greene will need to compete for time    Thu Jul 3, 06:54 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (knee) will need to compete for playing time during training camp, because he missed 13 practices this offseason while recovering from offseason surgery.

Footballguys view: We've never bought in on Shonn Greene and think Bishop Sankey brings a lot more to the table. We can see Sankey as a mid-range RB2 while Greene is no more than a RB4 right now.

Titans | Missing top three running backs     Mon Jun 9, 05:50 PM

The Tennessee Titans were without their top three running backs during organized team activities Monday, June 9. RB Shonn Greene (knee) is recovering from knee surgery, and RB Dexter McCluster (illness) was home sick. RB Bishop Sankey missed because the University of Washington is still in session. Sankey is expected to participate in organized team activities Thursday June 12.

Footballguys view: We'll see Greene out until training camp as he recovers from his knee injury. This will give Sankey a huge opportunity to prove himself worthy of starting for the Titans. He's a good (not great) all-purpose back who is likely to split time with Greene in a RBBC this year.

Titans | Shonn Greene sits out practice    Mon Jun 2, 03:09 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (knee) did not participate in organized team activities Monday, June 2.

Titans | Shonn Greene will not take part in OTAs    Mon May 26, 01:27 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (knee) will not participate in organized team activities, because he is recovering from offseason knee surgery.

Footballguys view: We'll likely see Greene back for training camp. We'll see rookie Bishop Sankey get a big opportunity to prove himself while Greene is out. The Titans will use a RBBC in 2014 with Greene as the lead back and Sankey as the change-of-pace guy.

Titans | Shonn Greene has surgery    Sun May 11, 06:49 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene (knee) had surgery on his right knee and is expected to miss the remainder of offseason training activities.

Titans | Shonn Greene needs to produce    Tue Apr 29, 12:13 AM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene is on the spot to at least make the team pause a few rounds before drafting a running back next month in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The Titans are likely to select a back in the draft after moving on from Chris Johnson. Greene can serve as the banger between the tackles, but the Titans should add some speed to the mix. A back like Bishop Sankey (Washington) would be a great fit in the second or third round of the draft.

Titans | Shonn Greene fine with RB committee    Fri Apr 4, 11:44 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene said he will be fine with being part of a running back committee because it will allow the players to stay fresh. 'Nowadays it's not just one back getting the job done, it's done by committee. I take that as a good thing, because it keeps guys fresh, it keeps guys healthy, no one takes a beating like you once did when you had one back, when you used a [workhorse] back. So I welcome all those guys on the roster to come help the team out so we can get where we need to be,' Greene said.

Footballguys view: Shonn Greene is fine with reality. In today's NFL, teams look for specialists at the running back position. Greene gives the team some power, so perhaps in the draft they'll be looking for a speed back. Someone like Lache Seastrunk (Baylor) could make a lot of sense as a third-round pick.

Titans | Chris Johnson to be released    Fri Apr 4, 12:02 PM

The Tennessee Titans plan on releasing RB Chris Johnson Friday, April 4, according to sources. He averaged a career-worst 3.9 yards per carry in 2013 and didn't have a run longer than 30 yards. Johnson is scheduled to make $8 million in 2014.

Footballguys view: That $8 million cap number kept any team from trading for the veteran runner. At this time, we could see teams like the Jets, Cowboys and Giants show interest in Johnson once he's on the open market.

Titans | John Skelton No. 3    Wed Nov 20, 01:08 PM

Tennessee Titans QB John Skelton will serve as the team's No. 3 quarterback behind QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Rusty Smith. Skelton isn't expected to be active in Week 12 against the Oakland Raiders. 'We thought we had a need just because of the way quarterbacks get hurt,' head coach Mike Munchak said. 'Rusty will go in if anything happens to Fitz, but this allows us to have somebody else here learning our offense in case we have another injury.' The Titans would likely run a wildcat offense with RBs Chris Johnson and Shonn Greene taking snaps if both Fitzpatrick and Smith are injured.

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Wednesday, Oct. 30, that ideally he would like to get 20 carries for RB Chris Johnson, while getting RB Shonn Greene 15 carries.

Titans | Shonn Greene's touches to go up?    Wed Oct 30, 05:18 PM

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said RB Shonn Greene is expected to be in the 15-carry range moving forward.

Footballguys view: A very interesting note for fantasy owners here. Greene is going to be a big part of the ground game and severely cut into the carries for Chris Johnson. It's a nice matchup for the Titans this week against the 23rd ranked Rams rush defense in Week 9. Greene makes for a nice "out of nowhere" flex play this week.

There is a chance that Locker could return in Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers, but it is unlikely. RB Shonn Greene (knee) is also expected to ramp up his activities this week.
