Jets | Tajh Boyd, Alex Green cut    Sat Aug 30, 12:56 PM

New York Jets QB Tajh Boyd and RB Alex Green have been released.

Footballguys view: Boyd could stick around as a developmental quarterback on the practice squad. Green's not the same player he used to be after injuries have slowed him down. His career will be tough to get back on track.

Jets | Several limited    Mon Aug 4, 04:00 PM

New York Jets CB Dimitri Patterson (calf, ankle), CB Dexter McDougle (groin), RB Alex Green (chest), DE Zach Thompson (shoulder) and CB Jeremy Reeves (hamstring) were all limited in practice Monday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: Green's in danger of losing his spot on the roster if he doesn't get healthy. The Jets recently added Michael Smith (Buccaneers) to the roster. The speed back plays a lot like a poor man's version of Chris Johnson, and he could win a reserve job instead of Green.

Jets | Alex Green exits again    Tue Jul 29, 10:47 AM

New York Jets RB Alex Green (chest) returned to practice Tuesday, July 29, but is in the trainers' tent for evaluation again.

Footballguys view: Green is working for a reserve spot with the Jets this year. He needs to stay healthy if he wants to beat out guys like Daryl Richardson or Bilal Powell.

The New York Jets have said RB Alex Green is still a part of the team even though they claimed RB Daryl Richardson off waivers. Green hinted on his Twitter page that he would be released.

Footballguys view: If any back is in danger of losing his job, it's Mike Goodson.

Jets | Alex Green to be released?    Fri May 16, 07:01 PM

New York Jets RB Alex Green hinted on his Twitter page that his time with the team has officially come to an end.

Footballguys view: The Jets don't have any room left on their roster after adding Daryl Richardson via waivers. Green has struggled to impress during his time with both the Packers and the Jets.

Jets | Three offensive players could get more time    Thu Dec 19, 09:53 PM

New York Jets RB Alex Green, WR Saalim Hakim and TE Zach Sudfeld could receive more playing time in the last two games of the season because the team wants to evaluate some of their players.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld never lived up to the hype of his "Baby Gronk" nickname in New England, but the long-term tight end job in New York is wide open. Hakim is a speedy wide receiver formerly with the Saints who could make a living as a deep threat if he starts to make plays in his limited opportunity.

The New York Jets have declared RB Alex Green, OG Ben Ijalana, QB David Garrard, LB Garrett McIntyre, WR Jeremy Kerley, OT Oday Aboushi, OG William Campbell inactive for Week 12.

Footballguys view: There was talk that Kerley might return this week, but Santonio Holmes, Stephen Hill, and David Nelson will be the top three receivers again this week.

The New York Jets have declared RB Alex Green, OG Ben Ijalana, QB David Garrard, TE Jeff Cumberland, OT Oday Aboushi, WR Santonio Holmes, OG William Campbell inactive for Week 9.

Jets | Mike Goodson returns    Mon Sep 30, 03:42 PM

New York Jets RB Mike Goodson is eligible to rejoin the team for practice Monday, Sept. 30, after serving his four-game suspension for substance abuse.

Footballguys view: Goodson will return as the team's RB3 behind Bilal Powell and Chris Ivory. If Ivory continues to struggle staying healthy we could see Goodson get a shot as a change of pace back behind Powell.

Jets | Alex Green works as No. 2 RB    Mon Sep 23, 05:25 PM

New York Jets RB Alex Green worked as the No. 2 running back behind RB Bilal Powell in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills when RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) injured his hamstring in the first quarter. Green had 14 yards on five carries.

Footballguys view: So long as Ivory stays banged up we could see a bit more from Green. Bilal Powell is the lead back for this team and responded with a 100-yard performance against the Bills in Week 3.

Jets | Bilal Powell No. 1 on depth chart    Tue Sep 3, 08:59 PM

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell is listed at the top of the team's depth chart, ahead of RB Chris Ivory and newly acquired RB Alex Green. RB Mike Goodson will also join the mix after he serves his four-game suspension.

Footballguys view: The Jets are going to use a RBBC this year featuring Powell, Ivory, and Goodson (once he's back from his supsension). We think Ivory ends up as the lead back when the dust settles. Powell showed better burst this preseason but still struggles in pass protection. Ivory is a swift back who runs with power. Durability problems are his biggest concern.

Jets | Three claimed, two cut    Sun Sep 1, 05:29 PM

The New York Jets claimed RB Alex Green (Packers), OT Ben Ijalana (Colts) and LB Scott Solomon (Titans) off waivers. RB Kahlil Bell and LB Danny Lansanah were cut. LB Josh Mauga (back) was placed on Injured Reserve.

Footballguys view: Green might be better than Bilal Powell, so we might be talking about him if (when) Chris Ivory gets hurt, but if he couldn't produce in Green Bay, Green won't be much to write home about in New York.

Packers | Three cut    Sat Aug 31, 03:10 PM

The Green Bay Packers waived RB Alex Green, TE Matthew Mulligan and TE DJ Williams.

Footballguys view: Green had a shot to impress last year and failed to make a positive impact despite getting 134 carries. The Packers move forward with Johnathan Franklin and James Starks behind Eddie Lacy.

Packers | James Starks last in rotation    Tue Aug 20, 12:15 AM

Green Bay Packers RB James Starks fumbled in the preseason game against the St. Louis Rams over the weekend, and he was last in the rotation of running backs behind RBs DuJuan Harris, Eddie Lacy, Johnathan Franklin and Alex Green.

Footballguys view: Starks is not guaranteed a roster spot. He's always been a space runner who only looks good if the holes are huge. Starks lacks the creativity and elusiveness to make something happen if the holes aren't there. The Packers should move forward with a backfield that features both Lacy and Harris.

Packers | Tentativeness might cost Alex Green    Wed Aug 14, 12:24 PM

Packers | No RBs stand out in blowout loss    Fri Aug 9, 11:22 PM

Green Bay Packers RB James Starks led the team with 38 rushing yards on 12 carries in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 9, against the Arizona Cardinals. RB Alex Green checked in with seven carries for 16 yards, while RB Johnathan Franklin posted six scampers for 14 yards. RB Eddie Lacy (hamstring) did not play due to a hamstring injury, and RB DuJuan Harris (knee) was absent due to a knee.

Footballguys view: Starks has always had talent--he just also has a propensity for injury. With Eddie Lacy and DuJuan Harris out, Starks, Johnathan Franklin and Alex Green had a chance to separate themselves, but didn't end up doing so. This still appears as if Eddie Lacy is at the front of the line for carries this season.

Packers | Alex Green returns    Wed Aug 7, 09:29 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Alex Green (knee) returned to practice Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Footballguys view: Green is competing for the starting job and this injury has put him behind in the race. He'll try to impress more than rookies Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin. Green looked good earlier in camp and will have to impress in the preseason if he wants to win the starting job.

Packers | Alex Green could be moved    Sun Jul 21, 11:29 AM

The Green Bay Packers may be willing to trade RB Alex Green at some point during the preseason.

Footballguys view: The better question is whether any team will be willing to give the Packers anything for the underachieving 2011 third-round pick. Green was only one year removed from an ACL tear when he disappointed during a good opportunity last year, so he could fetch a late-round pick if he shows the size/speed combination that made him so production at Hawaii. It's more likely that he is just cut at the end of camp, unless the Packers carry four running backs into the regular season. DuJuan Harris appears to be the most valuable incumbent back on the Packers roster.

Packers | Rookies only RB roster locks    Tue Jul 2, 06:26 PM

Green Bay Packers RBs Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin are locks to make the roster. The rookies will be joined by some combination of Alex Green, DuJuan Harris (lung), James Starks and undrafted rookie Angelo Pease. Green and Starks have received first-team reps this offseason with the rookies studying the system and Harris sidelined.

Footballguys view: Harris is the best bet to make the team of the veterans, and Pease is likely ticketed for the practice squad. The final makeup and breakdown of touches in the Packers backfield is one of the most unknown of any in the league, so we'll be watching this closely for you during camp and the preseason.

Packers | RB Green the starter through much of OTAs    Mon Jun 17, 05:22 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Alex Green has been working as the starter through much of the team's offseason program. He's competing with rookies Eddie Lacy (Alabama) and Johnathan Franklin (UCLA) for the starting job in 2013.

Footballguys view: Lacy is expected to win the starting job during training camp. Green had a chance last year to prove himself as the starter but failed to impress. Lacy was drafted in the second-round of the 2013 NFL draft to be the workhorse the team has been missing for years. We like Lacy as a RB3 with RB2 upside this season. Durability is a huge concern with Lacy and he'll need to stay healthy in order to play up to his potential.

Packers | Alex Green rushed back    Wed May 15, 08:22 AM

Green Bay Packers RB Alex Green (knee) admitted he rushed back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament to compete for carries in training camp last season. He said it was premature, and by December, his knee was sore and swollen.

Footballguys view: Green had his shot last year to prove himself as a starting caliber RB but struggled on the field and failed to impress. Now he's third or fourth on the depth chart since the Packers added both Eddie Lacy and Jonathan Franklin in the 2013 NFL draft.

Packers | Searching for lead back    Fri Jan 18, 01:17 PM

The Green Bay Packers feel the need to find a lead back heading into the 2013 season, and that man may not be on the current roster. The Packers shuffled through as many as six running backs this season and weren't satisfied with any of their options. Among the unrestricted free agents they could target this offseason include St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson, Miami Dolphins RB Reggie Bush, Dallas Cowboys RB Felix Jones and New York Jets RB Shonn Greene. Green Bay would likely be interested in Jackson in the secondary market because he'll be 30 this year.

Footballguys view: The Packers had the right idea when they signed Cedric Benson last year but he couldn't stay healthy and missed most of the season. James Starks hasn't worked out and Alex Green got a shot this year but failed to impress. DuJuan Harris is a great change of pace back but some think he's only a change of pace back.

Packers | RBs were not used much as receivers     Fri Jan 11, 06:49 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Alex Green, Ryan Grant, James Starks and DuJuan Harris combined for only 25 catches during the regular season. RB Cedric Benson (foot) caught 14 passes and was on pace for 44 catches this season before he was placed on Injured Reserve.

Packers | Alex Green fully practices    Wed Jan 2, 05:21 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Alex Green (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Jan. 2.

Packers | DuJuan Harris trying to get accustomed to cold weather     Wed Jan 2, 05:13 PM

Green Bay Packers running backs coach Alex Van Pelt said RB DuJuan Harris practiced without sleeves Wednesday, Jan. 2, to try and get comfortable playing in cold weather. Van Pelt said ball security could be a factor in the cold weather but Harris has big hands for his size which should help in that area. RB Ryan Grant could receive more carries in the Wild Card playoff game because he has played in cold weather playoff games before. Van Pelt said RB Alex Green will be available to the coaches whenever they need him to play.

Footballguys view: Harris has ran hot when given a chance to tote the rock. We like his burst and change of direction ability. Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has stated the team would use a 'hot hand' approach at the RB position. Harris has certainly earned more touches with his play in recent weeks.

McCarthy said the team will get Harris, RB Alex Green and RB Ryan Grant ready to play and will see how the game is going before deciding which back will get the most carries.

Footballguys view: We think this is the most likely scenario. Harris just runs hotter and with more energy than Green or Ryan Grant.

Packers | James Starks dealing with bone bruise    Thu Dec 20, 07:42 PM

Green Bay Packers RB James Starks (knee) is dealing with a bone bruise in his right knee, and head coach Mike McCarthy plans to have him back for the playoffs. 'Yeah, it's a lot better,' Starks said. 'Just how I was bent, when you look at it, it looked a lot worse. So I just thank God for being able to possibly come back and do well. So no real, serious bad injuries.' Starks hasn't been able to practice but he's been staying busy in the weight room. In his absence, the Packers have gone with a combination of RBs Alex Green, DuJuan Harris and Ryan Grant.

Footballguys view: Green is battling a concussion right now so we could see more from Harris and Grant this week. The Packers RB situation isn't one to trust for fantasy owners.
