Steelers | Bruce Gradkowski has hamstring tear    Mon Aug 15, 03:47 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Bruce Gradkowski (hamstring) has a sizable hamstring tear, according to a source. He may be out for an extended period of time. QBs Landry Jones and Dustin Vaughan are the primary backups behind QB Ben Roethlisberger.

Footballguys view: Bad news for the Steelers here. Gradkowski is a seasoned veteran who gives the team an experienced backup behind Roethlisberger. The team wouldn't go off the rails if Gradkowski had to step in for a game or two. We don't feel as confident in the Steelers offense if Jones or Vaughan is the starting QB due to an injury.

Steelers | Pittsburgh re-signing Bruce Gradkowski    Sun May 1, 07:19 PM

Free-agent QB Bruce Gradkowski (Steelers) will re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday, May 2, and compete with QB Landry Jones for the backup job.

Footballguys view: That's a good move for the Steelers. Jones hasn't shown the development needed to get excited about his future in the pros, and Gradkowski is a solid reserve QB who won't cause you to lose sleep if he's a spot starter.

Steelers | Bruce Gradkowski could return    Mon Apr 18, 04:16 PM

Free-agent QB Bruce Gradkowski (Steelers) is still an option for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the team wants to see him throw before they sign him.

Footballguys view: The Steelers reportedly might be interested in free agent Brian Hoyer, but resigning Gradkowski might be the better option. Gradkowski missed the entire 2015 season because of a shoulder injury.

Steelers | Bruce Gradkowski lands on IR    Tue Aug 25, 11:26 PM

Updating a previous report, the Pittsburgh Steelers placed QB Bruce Gradkowski (finger) on the reserve/injured list Tuesday, Aug. 25, ending his 2015 season. The team signed QB Michael Vick to work as the backup to QB Ben Roethlisberger.

Footballguys view: Gradkowski hasn't thrown a meaningful pass - or heck, an un-meaningful one either - in close to three years. Chances are this is his last round-up.

Steelers | Michael Vick signs    Tue Aug 25, 07:40 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Michael Vick (Jets) signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers Tuesday, Aug. 25. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Steelers need veteran depth behind Ben Roethlisberger, and Vick gives them that. QB Bruce Gradkowski (finger) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list.

Steelers | Bruce Gradkowski to start throwing    Wed Aug 5, 01:08 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder) will start throwing on the side at some point this week. Gradkowski is currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: Coming up on Sunday (sounds great, doesn't it?) we'll see Landry Jones as the starting quarterback for the Steelers in the Hall of Fame game.

Steelers | Landry Jones to start Sunday?    Tue Aug 4, 01:48 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones had another excellent practice Monday, Aug. 3, and it looks like he'll start against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, Aug. 9, with QB Ben Roethlisberger sitting out. Jones hasn't dressed for a game since he was drafted by the Steelers in 2013. QB Bruce Gradkowski (arm) continues to sit out with 'arm fatigue.'

Footballguys view: Jones is a player we are monitoring in super deep dynasty leagues. We love the Hall of Fame Game, but it's really bad football as the first preseason game of the year. Don't expect a lot from Jones in this debut.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder), OT Mike X. Adams (back), CB Senquez Golson (shoulder), DL Shawn Lemon (Achilles') and C Maurkice Pouncey (foot) were placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Saturday, July 25.

Steelers | Bruce Gradkowski on PUP list    Sun Jul 26, 09:34 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Saturday, July 25.

Steelers | Three reserve QBs scheduled to play    Fri Aug 9, 02:15 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers plan to use QBs Bruce Gradkowski in the first quarter of the preseason opener against the New York Giants, replacing QB Ben Roethlisberger. QB John Parker Wilson will also see time, as will QB Landry Jones. Jones has reportedly struggled in his first two weeks of training camp.

Footballguys view: Jones is a rookie who certainly looks the part. He'll likely make the roster as a developmental prospect. Jones needs to work on his accuracy and gain more consistent mechanics if he wants to play up to his potential.

Steelers | Landry Jones struggles on the move    Thu May 9, 08:11 PM

Since the start of the 2010 season Landry Jones completed 27.4% of his passes with two touchdowns and five interceptions when forced to scramble out of the pocket.

Footballguys view: Jones was added in the fourth-round to be a developmental prospect behind Ben Roethlisberger and Bruce Gradkowski. He's got the size, experience, and arm strength to be a quality pro. However, he needs to improve his accuracy and decision making if he wants to play up to his potential.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to terms with free-agent QB Bruce Gradkowski (Bengals) on a three-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: An upgrade for their backup QB position here. Gradkowski is a valuable backup who can keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes downfield. He should fit nicely in the Todd Haley offensive system.

Vikings | Could show interest in three QBs    Wed Mar 6, 12:08 PM

The Minnesota Vikings could show interest in Buffalo Bills impending free-agent QB Tyler Thigpen, Miami Dolphins impending free-agent QB Matt Moore and Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent QB Bruce Gradkowski once free agency begins because they will be looking for a No. 2 quarterback.

Footballguys view: Joe Webb is not the answer behind Christian Ponder. Moore and Gradkowski make the most sense for the Vikings with Gradkowski likely being the cheaper option.

Bengals | May look to re-sign Bruce Gradkowski    Fri Mar 1, 04:24 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals could look to re-sign impending free-agent QB Bruce Gradkowski because he is familiar with offensive coordinator Jay Gruden's scheme.

Footballguys view: It's the right move for both sides. The Bengals need a quality veteran backup behind Andy Dalton. Gradkowski has to know the chances of him getting a starting job elsewhere are slim to none.

Bengals | Could add a No. 2 QB in NFL Draft    Wed Feb 27, 08:56 AM

Bengals | May re-sign Bruce Gradkowski     Mon Feb 11, 03:47 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals may re-sign impending free-agent QB Bruce Gradkowski this offseason.

Footballguys view: Gradkowski is a sound backup QB who gives the team nice veteran depth at the position. We can't imagine the market is that hot for his services so Cincinnati should be able to sign him for a good price.

Bengals | Andy Dalton gets early exit    Mon Sep 10, 10:11 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton completed 22-of-37 passes for 221 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. He left the game midway through the fourth quarter, but that was due to the lopsided score and not any type of injury. Backup QB Bruce Gradkowski relieved him.

Footballguys view: Dalton was getting beat up all night against the Ravens. There was no need to keep him in the lineup and risk injury in a game that had gotten away from them.

Bengals | Bruce Gradkowski might get nod in Week 2    Tue Sep 13, 09:12 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Bruce Gradkowski might get the starting nod in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos with QB Andy Dalton (wrist) recovering from a Week 1 injury. Gradkowski engineered a 27-17 comeback win against the Cleveland Browns in the opener.

Footballguys view: The Bengals don't need to rush Dalton back into the lineup. With the state of the Broncos defense we expect the Bengals to run the ball early and often.

Bengals | May only keep two quarterbacks    Fri Aug 26, 01:36 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals played just two quarterbacks -- Andy Dalton and Bruce Gradkowski -- Thursday, Aug. 25, in their third preseason game. It appears the team is considering entering the season with just two quarterbacks on roster. Backup QB Jordan Palmer appears to be the odd man out if they do keep three, as he has not played in the past two preseason games. QB Dan LeFevour would likely be the third option if the Bengals choose to retain three signal callers.

Footballguys view: Gradkowski is a gamer, but he has not proven to be durable over the course of his career. A decision to keep only two QBs could come back to haunt the Bengals unless they just don't think LeFevour or Palmer fit in offensive coordinator Jay Gruden's scheme.

Bengals | Bruce Gradkowski doesn't fare too well    Sun Aug 21, 11:32 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Bruce Gradkowski had a chance to make strides toward the starting job Sunday, Aug. 21, against the New York Jets, but he managed to complete just three of his seven attempts for 50 yards, and he was also picked off once.

Footballguys view: The Bengals may be in trouble here if they can't get better play from the veteran Gradkowski. He knows Jay Gruden's system from their time together in Tampa Bay and is most likely going to be their starting QB until rookie Andy Dalton is ready.

Bengals | Bruce Gradkowski gets chance late    Sat Aug 13, 01:18 AM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Bruce Gradkowski made his team debut in the second half Friday, Aug. 12, in the preseason opener against the Detroit Lions. Gradkowski completed 6-for-11 passes for 58 yards. Gradkowski is currently listed No. 2 on the team's depth chart, but it's no guarantee he won't be the start against the Cleveland Browns Sept. 11 in the regular season opener.

Bengals | Andy Dalton will continue to get most snaps    Thu Aug 4, 03:48 PM

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said QB Andy Dalton will continue to get more snaps during practice over QBs Bruce Gradkowski and Jordan Palmer.

Footballguys view: The Bengals see Dalton as their franchise QB of the future, and hope that the future is now. Veteran Bruce Gradkowski was added as a free agent but hasn't been able to practice with the team because of CBA rules. The team has a competition for the starting job but it's obvious they would like Dalton to beat out Gradkowski.

Bengals | Bruce Gradkowski veteran mentor for young QBs    Thu Jul 28, 12:25 AM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Bruce Gradkowski provides the Bengals with a veteran quarterback to help mentor rookie QB Andy Dalton. Gradkowski has experience with offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, as the two spent time together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bengals will enter training camp with Dalton, Gradkowski, Jordan Palmer and Dan LeFevour at quarterback, which marks the first time since 2008 they've entered camp with more than three quarterbacks.

Footballguys view: We have a feeling both Palmer brothers will not be playing for the Bengals this year. Gradkowski gives the team veteran insurance in case Dalton is hurt or simply isn't ready to be the starter. He could also help groom LeFevour who has good upside and a similar skill set.

Bengals | Bruce Gradkowski agrees to terms    Wed Jul 27, 04:39 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to terms with free-agent QB Bruce Gradkowski (Raiders) on a two-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Gradkowski has played with offensive coordinator Jay Gruden when Gruden was an offensive assistant with the Bucs under his brother Jon. He could start week 1 if Andy Dalton isn't ready. If he's the QB that's not terrible for the stock of guys like AJ Green and Jermaine Gresham.

Bengals | Bruce Gradkowski on the radar?    Wed Jul 27, 01:45 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals are looking for a veteran quarterback, and it is believed they have interest in unrestricted free-agent QB Bruce Gradkowski.

Footballguys view: Gradkowski has experience working with new Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden from their time together in Tampa Bay. He's a savvy veteran QB who plays with a lot of moxie. Gradkowski would give the team veteran depth behind rookie Andy Dalton.

Bengals | Could look at Jim Sorgi and Bruce Gradkowski    Sat Jul 16, 04:52 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals could show interest in New York Giants impending free-agent QB Jim Sorgi or Oakland Raiders impending free-agent QB Bruce Gradkowski as a veteran quarterback that could be the primary backup.

Footballguys view: This would point even more to rookie Andy Dalton as the opening day starter. It also indicates a lack of trust in Jordan Palmer or Dan LeFevour to emerge as a backup quality QB.

Bengals | Team could add veteran QB in free agency    Sat Jul 9, 09:12 PM

Geoff Hobson, from Bengals.com, reports the team could be interested in adding a veteran West Coast offense QB to help groom rookie QB Andy Dalton. Some options for the team include Tarvaris Jackson, Trent Edwards, and Bruce Gradkowski.

Footballguys view: The team isn't going to add a big name QB with the investment they've made in Dalton. However, adding someone like Gradkowski makes a lot of sense. The veteran QB has a relationship with new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden from their days together in Tampa Bay and could keep the starting spot warm until Dalton is ready to take over.

Bengals | Could have interest in QB Gradkowski    Wed Jun 22, 06:55 PM

Jason LaCanfora, from NFL.com, believes the Bengals could have interest in free agent QB Bruce Gradkowski. If Carson Palmer is traded or retires then the team might have a need for someone to push rookie QB Andy Dalton. Gradkowski is a tough QB with a lot of moxie and ties to offensive coordinator Jay Gruden.

Footballguys view: If Palmer moves on then adding Gradkowski to the mix would make some sense. He's been an effective spot starter during his career, but has failed to stay healthy every year. The Bengals have Jordan Palmer and second-year player Dan LeFevour currently behind Dalton on the depth chart.

Raiders | Bruce Gradkowski not tendered    Mon Mar 7, 09:20 AM

The Oakland Raiders did not tender QB Bruce Gradkowski, according to Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers. The team had no talks with him about a contract for 2011.

Footballguys view: Gradkowski worked well as the Raiders starting quarterback, but failed to stay healthy and was eventually replaced by Jason Campbell. In a QB desperate league there should be other teams interested in giving the scrappy veteran a chance to compete.
