Eagles | Chris Givens released by Philadelphia    Sun Aug 28, 05:25 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Chris Givens was released by the team Sunday, Aug. 28.

Footballguys view: Givens and Rueben Randle were vying for outside receiver spots on a weak depth chart, but the acquisition of Dorial Green-Beckham spelled their doom after weak summers. UDFA Paul Turner has had a great summer and could make the team in Givens/Randle's place.

Eagles | Two Eagles on the bubble    Wed Aug 17, 10:05 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Rueben Randle and WR Chris Givens have failed to impress, and they could fail to make the team.

Footballguys view: This is good news for Dorial Green-Beckham, who might end up starting by default because the Eagles outside wide receiver group is underwhelming to say the least.

Eagles | Rueben Randle in lead for WR3    Tue Jun 14, 08:46 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Rueben Randle is in the early lead for the Eagles' third receiver spot over WR Chris Givens and WR Josh Huff.

Footballguys view: It's not an exciting offense to be the third option in. The Pederson offense should feed one WR and one TE enough to be fantasy relevant. Anything outside of that in the Eagles passing game may not be worth rostering in most standard-sized leagues.

Eagles | Chris Givens holding his own    Sun Jun 12, 02:58 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Chris Givens has put in a solid offseason so far and could challenge WRs Josh Huff, Nelson Agholor and Rueben Randle for playing time, according to CSNPhilly's Dave Zangaro. Givens is known for his deep-threat ability, but Zangaro said Givens has also impressed with his underneath routes so far.

Footballguys view: Other than Jordan Matthews, we're not crazy about the Eagles WRs...and it's not like we expect Matthews to burn up the charts. Right now, Matthews has a current ADP of WR25 (5.04) in 12-team PPR leagues. We'll be monitoring Givens vs Huff vs Randle as training camp rolls on later this year.

Eagles | Sam Bradford to work out with teammates    Thu Jun 2, 01:58 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford said he plans to workout with several of the skill players during the first week in July in order to work on their timing leading up to training camp. WRs Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor and Chris Givens are among the players that will be part of the workouts.

Footballguys view: It's a good step, though Mark Sanchez used to do that with his Jets receivers and it never seemed to help. That said, Bradford is still a shaky QB3 until he 1) has the job for sure and 2) proves he can produce consistently.

Eagles | Nelson Agholor should still start    Sun Mar 20, 02:19 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor is still expected to start on the outside in 2016 despite the addition of WR Chris Givens. Agholor was a first-round pick whose development was stunted due to injury last year.

Footballguys view: Givens is unlikely to take Agholor's job. Jordan Matthews and Agholor should start on the outside for the Eagles in 2016, and Givens will provide the team with a speedy deep receiver who can play in three- or four-WR sets.

Eagles | Chris Givens agrees with Eagles    Wed Mar 16, 02:15 PM

Free-agent WR Chris Givens (Ravens) agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday, March 16.

Free-agent WR Chris Givens (Ravens) visited the New York Jets Tuesday, March 15, according to a source.

Ravens | Chris Givens will be involved    Wed Oct 7, 02:40 PM

Baltimore Ravens WR Chris Givens will be involved in the offense in Week 5, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Footballguys view: With Steve Smith hurt, the Ravens need warm bodies but if you're going to toss someone into your lineups, try Kamar Aiken, who has been very involved already. We have him as a solid WR3 and he's a bargain in daily fantasy right now.

Ravens | Chris Givens acquired    Sat Oct 3, 09:57 AM

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens was traded to the Baltimore Ravens Saturday, Oct. 3. It is not known what the Rams will receive in return.

Footballguys view: The Ravens needed help at the wide receiver position, and that's why they make the move here. Michael Campanaro is out for the year, rookie Breshad Perriman is still coming back from an injury and now Steve Smith Sr. has a back/ribs injury and is considered day-to-day. Over three games this year, Givens has played only 50 snaps with one rush for 24 yards and one catch for seven yards. It's been all downhill for the speedy receiver since his breakout rookie season of 2012 when he snared 42 catches for 698 yards and three touchdowns. We'll see if he can quickly carve out a role with his new team.

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens is scheduled to have a base salary of $1.574 million with a cap count of $1.698 million.

Footballguys view: The team might deem it too much if Givens is the fifth receiver in a group with WRs Kenny Britt, Brian Quick, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey. Releasing Givens would save the team $1.574 million.

Rams | Chris Givens falls down depth chart    Mon Aug 18, 02:31 AM

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens has been surpassed on the depth chart by WRs Kenny Britt, Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey and Brian Quick, and Givens may be a bubble in terms of final roster cuts.

Footballguys view: As a rookie in 2012, Givens was a premiere deep target for the Rams and his career looked promising. Say it with me everybody--things change pretty quickly around here. It wouldn't shock us to see Givens released by the Rams if he doesn't start performing better in camp and the preseason.

Rams | Happy with current WRs    Wed Jun 11, 12:53 PM

The St. Louis Rams did not select a wide receiver with any of their 12 selections in this year's draft, and head coach Jeff Fisher said they are happy and confident with the group of young receivers they have on their roster. St. Louis ranked 29th in the league in receiving yards last year, 26th in yards per catch and were tied for 20th in receiving touchdowns. WR Tavon Austin came on strong late in his rookie year, and WRs Chris Givens and Brian Quick are expected to do more in their third seasons with QB Sam Bradford coming off an injury. WR Stedman Bailey will miss the first four games of the season due to a suspension, but the team also took a chance on WR Kenny Britt.

Footballguys view: The Rams should be happy with their wide receivers as they've made several moves to upgrade the position through the draft and free agency. Britt has been standing out during minicamp, and he's looking for a fresh start after failing to play up to his potential with the Titans. Austin enters his second season with plenty of experience from his rookie year in 2013. We'll see if he can continue to develop as a pro.

Rams | Kenny Britt signs    Mon Mar 31, 07:25 PM

The St. Louis Rams signed free-agent WR Kenny Britt (Titans) to a one-year, $1.4 million deal Monday, March 31, according to a source. The deal could wind up being worth as much as $2.9 million. Britt will receive $550,000 in guarantees.

Footballguys view: This was an expected landing spot for Britt. He's reunited with former Titans head coach (and current Rams head coach) Jeff Fisher. The Rams added former Titans TE Jared Cook last year. Like Cook, Britt was disgruntled in Tennessee and needed a change of scenery. Britt's talent has never been a question mark. Injuries and inconsistencies have held back his pro career. If healthy and motivated then Britt could be the team's top receiver.

Rams | Like Sammy Watkins    Fri Mar 28, 09:01 AM

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher praised Clemson WR Sammy Watkins' talent, but he also said he likes what the team has at receiver. 'I think with what we have on the roster right now, we can provide (quarterback) Sam (Bradford) with the talent to where we can win a lot of games,' Fisher said. 'We're expecting improvement. We're still seeing improvement from (receivers), for example, Brian Quick, Chris Givens who are going into their third year.'

Footballguys view: Everyone should like (or love) Sammy Watkins. He can fly down the field, track the ball over his shoulder and make difficult catches seem routine. Watkins is our favorite wide receiver in this talent-rich draft class.

Rams | GM doesn't think WR is priority    Thu Jan 16, 05:51 PM

St. Louis Rams general manager Les Snead said the team doesn't necessarily need a No. 1 wideout to compete with the rest of their division moving forward, despite the Rams finishing 30th in the league in total yards and 22nd in offensive points in 2013. WR Chris Givens led the team's receivers with only 569 receiving yards last year, and St. Louis hasn't had a receiver even reach 700 yards since former WR Torrey Holt in 2008. 'I go back to this and the answer is really 'no' on that,' Snead said. 'I think our receivers right now, I truly believe as they progress and the oldest guy just finished his third year, we cannot have another receiver around here and we're going to be a good football team.'

Footballguys view: Finishing that deep in the rankings might have more to do with being stuck with Kellen Clemens than a lack of receiver talent. There are other needs and receiver probably shouldn't be high on the list.

Rams | Kellen Clemens expected to start    Mon Oct 21, 01:06 PM

St. Louis Rams QB Kellen Clemens is expected to start at quarterback with QB Sam Bradford (knee) out for the rest of the season.

Rams | Might only keep five WRs    Tue Aug 27, 12:00 PM

The St. Louis Rams might only keep five wide receivers to start the regular season due to injuries at the tight end position. WRs Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, Chris Givens, Austin Pettis and Brian Quick are considered the 'big five.' WRs Emory Blake, Nick Johnson and Justin Veltung are believed to be battling for the sixth receiver job.

Footballguys view: The Rams have a strong group of WRs with a unique blend of skill sets. Austin and Givens have incredible speed and can get open with ease. Bailey is a downfield target who does a good job of tracking the ball. Quick is the big receiver and makes for a nice target in the red zone. Pettis has improved his concentration and can make difficult catches.

Rams | Chris Givens continues to impress    Fri Aug 16, 02:43 PM

St. Louis Rams Chris Givens continues to impress during training camp and the preseason. He had a particularly strong practice Thursday, Aug. 15, making several acrobatic grabs to the delight of offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Footballguys view: Givens showed well as a rookie last season when he proved he could be a valuable deep threat for QB Sam Bradford. Expect him to build on that momentum this season. We like his fantasy value at WR43 (11.04) in 12 team PPR leagues.

Rams | Looking for Chris Givens to improve intermediate routes    Wed Aug 14, 05:05 PM

St. Louis Rams wide receivers coach Ray Sherman said the team knows what WR Chris Givens can do as a deep threat, but want him to work in his intermediate routes because the team wants to use his speed on those routes. The team also had Givens add some muscle to help with his ability to get off press coverage as well as his blocking ability.

Rams | Chris Givens looking for breakout year    Mon Aug 12, 02:47 PM

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens said he is looking to improve his play this season and have a breakout season. 'I'm really looking to improve my game,' said Givens. 'To make this year a mission statement for me and just to really come out and show I can do more than last year.' Givens said he and QB Sam Bradford have chemistry because they have worked out a lot together.

Footballguys view: Givens was about as good as you can be in a very limited amount of snaps in the preseason opener. He got open deep for a long gainer and then again in the back of the end zone for a short touchdown. The buzz around him this offseason has been all good, and it appears that his arrow is pointing up. Givens is a steal at his current 13th round ADP.

Rams | Chris Givens, Austin Pettis atop early depth chart    Tue Jul 16, 11:03 PM

St. Louis Rams WRs Chris Givens and Austin Pettis are each listed as projected starters on the team's initial depth chart heading into training camp. WRs Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey and Brian Quick are listed as 'key contributors'.

Footballguys view: Givens is set to be the team's primary downfield target. He has the speed to get on top of the defense in a hurry and tracks the ball well deep. Pettis has been turning heads this offseason but the player we're most excited about is Austin. The rookie is incredibly quick, fast, and agile. He reminded some in the scouting community of Randall Cobb (Packers) because of his ability to score from anywhere on the field. We're expecting Austin to get plenty of work in 2013.

Rams | Brian Quick tumbling down depth chart?    Sun Jun 16, 11:44 PM

St. Louis Rams WR Brian Quick reportedly had a disappointing spring, and he tumbled down the unofficial depth chart, working as the No. 4 receiver as organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp ended. However, it is believed the rookie Tavon Austin, Chris Givens and Austin Pettis just had better practices, as offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer had good words for Quick. '(Quick's) doing a lot better. He's stepped up this year. He's just much more comfortable,' Schottenheimer said.

Footballguys view: This contradicts an earlier report from Tony Softli where Quick was impressing in OTAs. Either way Quick has more competition at the WR position since the team added both Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey in the 2013 NFL draft. Quick disappointed last year after the team spent a 2012 second-round pick on him.

Rams | Two finish as starting WRs after spring    Sun Jun 16, 11:42 PM

St. Louis Rams WRs Austin Pettis and Chris Givens were working as the starting outside wide receivers as spring practices wound down.

Footballguys view: Good news for Pettis here. Givens was impressive last year as a rookie and was the primary deep target for the Rams in 2012. Pettis has struggled during his pro career but it sounds like he's on the right track now. We love how the Rams have upgraded their weapons this offseason. They'll have a much more explosive offense in 2013.

Rams | Givens looking for a wider role    Sun Jun 9, 07:33 PM

St. Louis Rams second-year WR Chris Givens is looking for a wider role in the offense this year. He was mainly a '9' route guy last year and was the team's primary deep threat. QB Sam Bradford has certainly noticed a difference. "I expect Chris to have a great year. He works extremely hard,'' Bradford said. "Where last year he primarily played the 'Z' for us, now he's also being asked to play inside. He's being asked to go backside and play 'X'. He's a really, really smart football player; he understands our offense and I think by moving him to different spots in our offense, he'll be able to run more routes.

Footballguys view: Givens could be a key piece in the revamped Rams passing game. We like his deep speed and ball tracking ability. With rookie Tavon Austin (West Virginia) making plays underneath it should lead to plenty of single coverage for Givens to take advantage of. Givens has added muscle this offseason and appears ready to handle a full season's workload.

Rams | Intend to be more 'high octane' in 2013    Sun May 26, 07:09 PM

According to the team's official website, the St. Louis Rams intend to be more 'high octane' on offense in 2013. They've displayed that in recent OTAs and added the proper talent in the NFL draft to be more explosive on offense.

Footballguys view: This is a make or break year for QB Sam Bradford. The team has been active this offseason adding several key positions to the offense. In free agency they added top LT Jake Long to protect Bradford's blind side. They also added TE Jared Cook in free agency. In the NFL draft they added explosive WRs (and West Virginia teammates) Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey. Second-year WR Chris Givens has been standing out during OTAs as well.   Rams | Chris Givens to have bigger role    Fri Mar 22, 10:25 PM

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens will have a bigger role in 2013, as the team saw WRs Danny Amendola (Patriots) and Brandon Gibson (Dolphins) leave via free agency. Givens was more comfortable running short and intermediate routes as the season progressed last season, rather than just being a downfield threat. 'He improved weekly,' head coach Jeff Fisher said. 'We were able to do more and more with him as he got more familiar. I think he knows that this is his opportunity.'

Footballguys view: Givens is an impressive prospect with developmental upside. We like the way he can get open deep and his strong concentration when tracking passes downfield.

Rams | Trio of WRs could be moving up    Sun Feb 17, 08:49 PM

If impending free-agent WRs Danny Amendola (Rams) and Brandon Gibson (Rams) are not brought back, that would leave St. Louis Rams WRs Chris Givens, Austin Pettis and Brian Quick as the only wideouts under contract with the team in 2013. However, head coach Jeff Fisher doesn't sound concerned either way, noting the team could look for help outside the organization. 'Not a concern whatsoever,' Fisher said. 'There's options out there. The free-agent market, there's options out there, and it's a great draft for a receiver this year.'

Footballguys view: Any team who needs WR help is going to like the choices available this offseason. The free agent market features star WRs like Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, and Greg Jennings. The 2013 Draft is incredibly deep at the position and quality WRs can be found in the second- and third-round.   Rams | Chris Givens could have expanded role    Mon Dec 3, 07:13 PM

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher hinted that WR Chris Givens could have an expanded role the last four games of the season now that he's improving his short game. 'Yeah, we've been talking about that. He's got to bring his game from the long touchdown passes back closer to the line of scrimmage and be more proficient in the short and intermediate passing game, and he's doing that. He's getting to where he needs to get to. He's making the quick catches. It's also very helpful when you have an accurate quarterback to put the ball where he needs to put it. He's a guy that, hopefully, as we push through the rest of the season, will have more plays. What we're looking for is the run after catch opportunities for him, but he's improving,' Fisher said.

Footballguys view: Givens began his rookie season as a deep threat and a big play WR. He's continued to develop his game and has become a better route runner as the season goes on. We like him as a WR3/flex play with this expanding role.

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens posted a career-best 11 receptions for 92 yards in the Week 13 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Footballguys view: Givens was just a desperation play coming into the game, but he benefited from Danny Amendola being out in addition to a game flow that let Sam Bradford to lean on the short passing game. He'll be a viablw WR3/Flex against Buffalo if Amendola is out again in week 14.
