Jaguars | Jacksonville taking a look at Mike Gillislee    Thu May 16, 05:52 PM

Free-agent RB Mike Gillislee (Saints) worked out for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, May 16.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars are just updating their emergency list here. They already have guys like Alfred Blue, Benny Cunningham and Ryquell Armstead (oh yeah, Thomas Rawls too) to compete for the reserve spots behind starter Leonard Fournette.

Lions | Mike Gillislee works out for Lions    Fri Feb 15, 08:59 AM

Free-agent RB Mike Gillislee (Saints) worked out for the Detroit Lions Thursday, Feb. 14.

Footballguys view: Gillislee was with the Patriots during the preseason in 2018 but he didn't make their final roster. The Saints did pick him up for about a month after that, but Gillislee has been out of work since that time. A veteran back who runs with power, Gillislee should find a spot somewhere to compete this offseason.

Saints | Mark Ingram activated for Monday    Sat Oct 6, 04:51 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram was officially activated to the 53-man roster Saturday, Oct. 6 and the team cut RB Mike Gillislee to make room.

Footballguys view: Ingram is back in action for the Saints this week and the veteran back should take some touches away from Alvin Kamara. Fantasy GMs should know that this backfield can support both...just like it did last year. Kamara is the clear-cut lead back and an every week RB1 starter. Ingram might get eased back in this week with 10 or so touches...and that makes him more of a deep flex play in Week 5. Going forward, Ingram could have RB2/flex value once he's back in football shape.

Saints | Mike Gillislee the No. 2 RB    Tue Sep 4, 06:05 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Mike Gillislee is listed as the backup running back on the Saints' initial depth chart.

Footballguys view: Well that didn't take long. Gillislee was released by the Patriots and scooped up by the Saints on Sunday. This puts him behind starter Alvin Kamara for the first four weeks of the year while Mark Ingram is suspended. With Kamara looking like he's going to hog most of the touches in the Saints backfield, Gillislee shouldn't get that many snaps.

Saints | Mike Gillislee joins New Orleans    Sun Sep 2, 06:09 PM

Free-agent RB Mike Gillislee (Patriots) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints Sunday, Sept. 2, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Gillislee should get touches while Mark Ingram is suspended, and might even have some fleeting value in deep leagues. His signing makes Boston Scott a less attractive sleeper in Weeks 1-4.

Saints | Mike Gillislee visiting New Orleans    Sun Sep 2, 11:01 AM

Free-agent RB Mike Gillislee (Patriots) is visiting the New Orleans Saints Sunday, Sept. 2.

Footballguys view: The Saints have Boston Scott as a #2 back, but he might be a little undersized to work between the tackles. Gillislee is a lunchpail back who could steal some goal line chances if he ends up with the Saints.

Patriots | Jeremy Hill wins job with Pats    Sat Sep 1, 02:21 PM

New England Patriots RB Jeremy Hill has won a roster spot, beating out RB Mike Gillislee.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee beaten out for spot    Sat Sep 1, 02:19 PM

The New England Patriots released RB Mike Gillislee, a source said Saturday, Sept. 1.

Footballguys view: Jeremy Hill is the power back for the Patriots with the release of Gillislee. A team in need of a veteran back might give Gillislee a call.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee on Pats' roster bubble    Wed Aug 29, 11:59 AM

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee's roster spot is in jeopardy as he battles Jeremy Hill and Brandon Bolden and others for the team's fourth running back slot behind Rex Burkhead, Sony Michel and James White. The roster cutdown to 53 players is Saturday, Sept. 1. 'Every preseason, I feel like it's a little harder for the running backs,' Gillislee said. 'But I'm doing all I can to make make the team or whatever it is, whether it's here or going (elsewhere).'

Footballguys view: Hill has been the most impressive out of that group of fourth-string running backs. Gillislee might get a chance elsewhere if he does get cut by the Patriots.

Patriots | Jeremy Hill in position to make team    Fri Aug 3, 10:59 AM

New England Patriots RB Jeremy Hill is more likely to make the team as the final running back over RB Mike Gillislee (undisclosed) due to durability concerns, according to NESN's Doug Kyed.

Footballguys view: Gillislee also failed last year in the role that he's trying to win. Sony Michel, James White, and Rex Burkhead's value would be better off if neither makes the team. If Hill does make the team, he'll have matchup value in deep leagues, assuming he gets the majority of the goal line carries - which was a strength of his game in Cincinnati.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee may return Monday    Sun Jul 29, 06:52 PM

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Sunday, July 29, but could return to practice as early as Monday, July 30, according to a source.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee added muscle during spring    Fri Jul 6, 01:06 PM

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee reported to spring workouts at 216 pounds after playing the 2017 season at 212 pounds.

Footballguys view: Gillislee was underwhelming last season even before he got hurt. His 3.7 yards per carry wasn't anything to write home about. With a first round pick Sony Michel in the house and a healthy Rex Burkhead, chances are that Gillislee will be buried on the depth chart, assuming he even makes the roster.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee on the bubble?    Sun May 6, 01:32 PM

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee is likely fighting for a roster spot in 2018 after opening last season as the team's No. 1 running back, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.

Footballguys view: This report has been going around the Patriots circles as minicamps and OTAs are on the horizon. The Patriots added Jeremy Hill this offseason in free agency and they selected Sony Michel in the 2018 NFL draft. Michel has the ability to be a lead back in the mold of LeSean McCoy. There may not be many touches to go around for Gillislee.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee to be on bubble    Sat May 5, 12:21 PM

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee will have to win a spot on the 53-man roster during training camp because there would be no dead money on the salary cap if Gillislee is released.

Footballguys view: The Patriots added Jeremy Hill this offseason in free agency and they selected Sony Michel in the 2018 NFL draft. Michel has the ability to be a lead back in the mold of LeSean McCoy. There may not be many touches to go around for Gillislee.

Patriots | Several RB battling for one spot?    Fri Apr 27, 11:20 PM

New England Patriots RBs Brandon Bolden, Mike Gillislee and Jeremy Hill might be competing for one spot with the chance one gets cut even before training camp.

Footballguys view: It's going to depend on how rookie Sony Michel looks. Neither Bolden nor Gillislee did anything last season and Hill is coming off an injury plagued year. There's a lot of potential but any or all three could be packing it in come September.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee likely to return to New England    Sun Mar 11, 02:11 PM

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee is expected to return to the team in 2018 despite being a healthy scratch for the second half of the season, according to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin.

Footballguys view: The Patriots can still use Gillislee as a battering ram between the tackles. James White will continue to work as a dangerous receiving weapon and change-of-pace back. Dion Lewis and Rex Burkhead may both move on in free agency.

Patriots | Free agency decisions ahead for New England    Mon Feb 5, 01:55 PM

The New England Patriots face the prospect of losing several key free agents. The Patriots have to address key impending free agents in OTs Nate Solder, Cameron Fleming and LaAdrian Waddle, along with RB Rex Burkhead, WR Danny Amendola, CB Malcolm Butler, WR/ST Matthew Slater and RB Dion Lewis. New England is projected to have approximately $17 million in salary cap space. TE Dwayne Allen, TE Martellus Bennett, DT Alan Branch, LB David Harris and RB Mike Gillislee all could be released to create more cap space.

Footballguys view: Solder is their franchise left tackle, and there's not a lot of talent at the position in this free agent class. There is speculation that Solder will end up retiring.

The New England Patriots have declared DL Alan Branch, WR Bernard Reedy, OL Cole Croston, LB David Harris, TE Jacob Hollister, WR Kenny Britt, RB Mike Gillislee inactive for Week 21.

Footballguys view: Mike Gillislee was seen as a possible sly Patriots pilfer from a division rival a la the Chris Hogan deal, but it ended up being a bust because Gillislee was ineffective or hurt for most of the season. He's unlikely to be back next year.

  Patriots | Mike Gillislee says he's a game-time call    Thu Feb 1, 10:32 AM

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee (knee) said he's a game-time decision for the Super Bowl.

Footballguys view: After he was hyped as the guy to take over for Legarrette Blount, he hasn't had much to do. If he does play, it's hard to say what - if any - role he will have beyond someone to give the other backs a rest

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee (knee) said his injured knee is definitely feeling better but is not sure if he will play in Super Bowl LII.

Patriots | Friday practice report for Patriots    Fri Jan 26, 04:45 PM

New England Patriots DE Deatrich Wise Jr. (concussion) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 26, and would have been ruled out if the team played this weekend. DT Malcom Brown (foot) did not practice and would have been listed as questionable. RB Mike Gillislee (knee) and OT LaAdrian Waddle (knee) were limited during practice and would have been listed as questionable. FS Devin McCourty (shoulder) fully participated in practice and would not have been on the injury report.

Footballguys view: Wise joins Rob Gronkowski on the list of players needing to clear concussion protocol to play in the Super Bowl. The defensive line and pass rush are both thin for the Patriots, so his services will be missed if he is not able to play next Sunday.
