Cowboys | Three WRs to visit Dallas    Tue Sep 15, 10:58 AM

Free-agent WR Hakeem Nicks (Titans), WR Clyde Gates (Titans) and WR Austin Pettis (Chargers) will work out with the Dallas Cowboys Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys have to at least upgrade their emergency list with Dez Bryant out for about two months..maybe longer. Any wide receiver added would be unlikely to have fantasy value if guys like Terrance Williams, Cole Beasely and Devin Street produce with larger roles.

Titans | Jacoby Ford, Clyde Gates signs    Thu Jan 15, 06:23 PM

Tennessee Titans WRs Jacoby Ford and Clyde Gates signed Reserve/Futures contracts Thursday, Jan. 15.

Footballguys view: Both Gates and Ford are speedy receivers who can get open on deep targets. Only fantasy owners in super super deep dynasty leagues should be watching them.

Jets | Jacoby Ford the favorite for KR    Fri Jul 18, 09:49 AM

New York Jets WR Jacoby Ford is the favorite to win the kick returner spot over WR Clyde Gates.

Footballguys view: That makes Ford the favorite over Gates to make the final roster. They're likely competing for one spot, and the player who provides the most value on special teams will win.

Jets | Three on the bubble    Wed Jul 16, 09:21 AM

New York Jets WRs Clyde Gates, Greg Salas and Quincy Enunwa are on the bubble for a roster spot.

Footballguys view: We like Gates the most out of these three, but even his dynasty value in super deep leagues is low. Gates has good straight-line speed and can be used as a return man in addition to giving the team veteran depth at wide receiver.

Jets | Two WRs up for kick return job    Sat Jun 28, 11:37 AM

New York Jets WRs Jacoby Ford and Clyde Gates are considered the leading candidates for the kick returner job entering training camp.

Footballguys view: Both Ford and Gates can fly down the field. Neither have done much as a receiver during their pro career. We'll see which one wins the job in training camp.

Jets | Clyde Gates, Mike Goodson to IR    Tue Oct 15, 04:35 PM

The New York Jets placed WR Clyde Gates (shoulder) and RB Mike Goodson (knee) on the season-ending Injured Reserve Tuesday, Oct. 15. Gates had 12 catches for 122 yards on the season. The team also signed RB Miguel Maysonet from the practice squad to their active roster.

Footballguys view: The Jets added wide receiver depth when they signed Greg Salas off the Eagles practice squad earlier today. Maysonet gives them running back depth behind Bilal Powell and Chris Ivory.

Jets | Jeremy Kerley, Clyde Gates could start    Wed Oct 2, 05:06 PM

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said WRs Jeremy Kerley and Clyde Gates will start Week 5 if WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) and WR Stephen Hill (concussion) are not able to play.

Footballguys view: The Jets have a WR corps that is incredibly banged up. It's one of the reasons why they signed David Nelson as a street free agent earlier in the week. With this expanded role we can still only recommend Kerley as a flex play in Week 5 against the Falcons.

Jets | Stephen Hill unlikely to play this week    Mon Sep 30, 03:41 PM

New York Jets WR Stephen Hill (concussion) is unlikely to play in Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons after sustaining a concussion in Week 4. Hill has 13 catches for 233 yards and one touchdown this season as the team's second leading receiver. WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) is also dinged up, and WRs Jeremy Kerley and Ben Obomanu or Clyde Gates would likely start if both Hill and Holmes don't play.

Footballguys view: Hill is a favorite target of rookie QB Geno Smith, but needs to pass the NFL protocol for dealing with concussions before he can return to the field.

Jets | Braylon Edwards' roster spot in jeopardy?    Fri Aug 23, 06:03 PM

New York Jets WR Braylon Edwards' (leg) roster spot is now in jeopardy after the team signed WR Mohamed Massaquoi Thursday, Aug. 22. Edwards hasn't taken part in practice in the last four days due to a leg injury. Aside from WR Santonio Holmes (foot), who remains week to week, WRs Jeremy Kerley, Stephen Hill and Clyde Gates are locks at receiver. WR Ryan Spadola is looking more safe, and WR Ben Obomanu is in jeopardy. Head coach Rex Ryan sees similarities between Massaquoi and former Jets wideout Jerricho Cotchery.

New York Jets RB Joe McKnight (head), WR Clyde Gates (head), TE Kellen Winslow (rest) and WR Braylon Edwards (rest) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Jets | Four practicing, two out    Tue Aug 13, 10:15 AM

New York Jets CB Antonio Cromartie (elbow), QB Greg McElroy (ankle), QB Geno Smith (ankle) and RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) are practicing Tuesday, Aug. 13. WR Clyde Gates (head) and RB Joe McKnight (head) are out.

Footballguys view: Smith is competing with Mark Sanchez for the starting job. The rookie has been having an up and down training camp and there may not be anyone emerging in that battle. Ivory will be the team's starter if healthy. He's a swift runner who can get to the second level quickly. Durability has always been a concern with him during his pro career. The Jets may employ a RBBC to help keep Ivory fresh in 2013.

Jets | Time is now for Clyde Gates    Wed Jun 26, 10:12 PM

New York Jets WR Clyde Gates needs to have a strong training camp and preseason if he wants to win a roster spot. Gates is on the team because former offensive coordinator Tony Sparano liked Gates from their days together with the Miami Dolphins, but Sparano has since moved on to a job with the Oakland Raiders.

Footballguys view: Gates has great straight line speed, but he hasn't shown' much else in the NFL. There could be an opportunity for playing for Gates if he can make the team and Santonio Holmes isn't ready for week 1.

Jets | Clyde Gates sitting    Tue Jun 11, 10:51 AM

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he believes WRs Stephen Hill (knee), Jeremy Kerley (heel) and WR Clyde Gates (hamstring) will be able to participate the team's minicamp next week.

Footballguys view: The team's WR corps is incredibly thin right now because of all the injuries at the position. Getting this trio back next week will help. The team is also looking forward to the return of Santonio Holmes (foot) as well. Holmes should be back at some point before the regular season but may begin training camp on the PUP list.
