Browns | Jeff Garcia interviews with CLE    Wed Feb 1, 10:57 AM

Former QB Jeff Garcia interviewed with the Cleveland Browns recently for their quarterbacks coach opening.

Footballguys view: Garcia was a resourceful quarterback and a fantasy darling during his years in the league. He could help whoever the Browns end up with at quarterback, with the likelihood very slim that they will take a passer at #1 this year.

Browns | Jeff Garcia wants to play QB    Tue Oct 22, 04:55 PM

Free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Texans) is open to the opportunity of playing quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.

Footballguys view: Garcia hasn't attempted a pass in a regular season game since 2008 when he was a member of the Buccaneers. It's an incredible long shot if we see him play in the NFL again.

NFL | JaMarcus Russell willing to play in Canada    Fri Jun 7, 03:30 PM

Free-agent QB JaMarcus Russell (Raiders) is willing to play in Canada if he can't get a deal with an NFL team, according to Jeff Garcia, who has been training with him.

Footballguys view: Russell just wants to get back to football. He's been working hard with Garcia at T.E.S.T. West to make a comeback. Russell still has a rocket arm but needs to prove he can stay out of trouble and make better decisions as a passer. The Ravens and Bears have shown interest in the 2007 number one overall pick.

Jets | Mark Sanchez works with Jeff Garcia    Thu Mar 28, 02:49 PM

New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez is working with former NFL QB Jeff Garcia this offseason. Garcia played in San Francisco and Philadelphia for Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and is teaching the Jets QB the west coast offense. 'He's doing an excellent job -- the progress Mark has made over the past three weeks is definitely very positive,'' Garcia said. 'It shows Mark is committed to bettering himself and getting himself more mentally prepared.'

Footballguys view: Former Raiders QB Jamarcus Russell is working out with Garcia too. Sanchez is going to be out of the league like Russell if he doesn't prove that he can play with consistency and be productive at a high level.

Jets | Mark Sanchez seeks knowledge of WCO    Thu Jan 24, 10:20 AM

New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez called former NFL QB Jeff Garcia this week to get a head start on the West Coast offensive scheme of offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Sanchez and Garcia hope to meet in Southern California in the coming weeks for some classroom and on-field work. Mornhinweg was Garcia's offensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles. In 2000, Garcia threw for a career-high 4,278 yards and 31 touchdowns under Mornhinweg.

Eagles | Jeff Garcia wants to join team     Sat May 26, 10:22 AM

Free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Texans) said he would join the Philadelphia Eagles in a heartbeat if head coach Andy Reid gave him a call. In fact, Garcia added he would pay the Eagles to join them. 'I'm picking up the phone and saying, 'Andy, how much do you want me to pay you so I can come in and get things fired up around there?'' Garcia said. 'I'd pay to play, that's just me. I can be that person who can continue to motivate and inspire and help teach and educate. And if given the opportunity to step on the field, I'm going to give everything I have to find success, no matter how it happens.'

Footballguys view: The Eagles seem set at the QB position right now. Starter Michael Vick is backed up by Mike Kafka, and the Eagles drafted Nick Foles this year to develop. Even though Garcia is offering to pay we don't think the Eagles will bite.

Texans | To sign Jeff Garcia    Tue Dec 6, 05:56 PM

The Houston Texans will sign free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (UFL) to back up QB T.J. Yates. In a corresponding move, the team waived QB Kellen Clemens. QB Jake Delhomme will be the No. 2 quarterback and Garcia is expected to be the third-stringer.

Footballguys view: Garcia gives the team another veteran QB to turn to if rookie T.J. Yates struggles. This team wants to make a deep run in the postseason, but the loss of starter Matt Schaub will be difficult to overcome.

Texans | Will look at Jeff Garcia again    Mon Nov 28, 10:42 PM

The Houston Texans are scheduled to work out free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (UFL) Tuesday, Nov. 29. He worked out for the team last week, too.

Footballguys view: Garcia has played under Houston QB coach Greg Knapp, so he should be the favorite to be signed.

Texans | Gary Kubiak talks about QB options    Mon Nov 28, 09:14 PM

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak talked Monday, Nov. 28, about the quarterbacks which looked good last week during workouts. 'Different type players, you know, you got (QB Jeff Garcia), who's been successful in this league, who's been around a long, long time that (QB coach Greg Knapp) has a little familiarity with,' Kubiak said. 'Then (QB Brodie Croyle) I thought worked out very good, who's played in this league. (QB Chase Clement) did a good job in his workout.'

Footballguys view: The latest report is that Garcia or Delhomme will be signed after a workout tomorrow to back up T.J. Yates. We wonder how long the leash for Yates will be with a vet on the roster.

The Houston Texans worked out free-agent QBs Jeff Garcia (Eagles), Trent Edwards (Raiders), Chase Clement (UFL), Brodie Croyle (Chiefs) and Kellen Clemens (Redskins) Monday, Nov. 21.

Buccaneers | Not interested in Jeff Garcia    Mon Aug 23, 03:04 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Domenik said the team is not interested in signing UFL QB Jeff Garcia, reports Scott Reynolds, of PewterReport.com.

Footballguys view: Starter Josh Freeman will miss the rest of the preseason with a thumb injury, but the Bucs are hesitant to add a veteran like Jeff Garcia. We expect them to sign a free agent QB soon to compete behind Josh Johnson and Rudy Carpenter.

Vikings | Not interested in Jeff Garcia    Mon Aug 16, 04:07 PM

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress dismissed a report that stated the Vikings were interested in unrestricted free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Eagles) if QB Brett Favre did not return, according to Tom Pelissero, of 1500ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Garcia is currently on the roster for the UFL Omaha Nighthawks, but could get a call back to play in the NFL but it won't come from the Vikings.

UFL | Jeff Garcia not interested in joining league    Wed Jul 21, 09:44 AM

Free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Eagles) continues to work out in hopes of landing with a team, according to Brad Biggs, of NationalFootballPost.com. However, Garcia is not interested in joining the UFL, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: The Philadelphia Eagles could give Garcia a phone call if they decide to release Michael Vick. Garcia knows the system like the back of his hand, and would be a trusted backup behind starter Kevin Kolb. Rookie Mike Kafka just isn't ready for backup duties. We like the rookie, but he'll have to develop as the third-string quarterback this year.

Eagles | Will not sign Jeff Garcia    Wed Apr 28, 10:28 AM

Jeff McLane, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports the Philadelphia Eagles are not looking to sign free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Eagles) at this point. The Eagles drafted rookie QB Mike Kafka as a developmental project and unless they trade QB Michael Vick, it is unlikely they would bring Garcia unless there is an injury.

Footballguys view: Not bringing Jeff Garcia back will end up being a good move for the Eagles. The team can develop rookie Mike Kafka into a quality backup, while Michael Vick will play as the second-string QB. Garcia thinks he's better than he actually is at this point in his career, and would likely make noise if Kevin Kolb struggled during the season.

Eagles | Garcia unlikely to return    Mon Apr 19, 09:59 AM

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Eagles) is considered a long shot to re-sign with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballguys view: If the Eagles trade Michael Vick, then Garcia would become more of an option. Right now the move just doesn't make any sense. We don't like the idea of Garcia being behind a young starter because the wily veteran thinks he's better than he is. Garcia would likely make noise if Kevin Kolb got off to a rocky start in 2010.

Eagles | Have talked to Garcia    Wed Apr 14, 09:41 PM

Updating a previous report, The Associated Press reports unrestricted free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Eagles) said he has talked to the Philadelphia Eagles about the possibility of re-signing with the team but said nothing is imminent.

Footballguys view: Garcia said he would love to mentor new Eagles starter Kevin Kolb, but we think that would be a recipe for disaster. Garcia thinks he's better than he is at this point in his career, and if Kolb were to struggle he might start mouthing off about how he should be the starter. We expect the Eagles to select another QB in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Eagles | Garcia signing not imminent    Mon Apr 12, 09:58 AM

Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports a source close to free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Eagles) acknowledges the possibility of the Philadelphia Eagles re-signing Garcia and that discussions have occurred but told nothing is imminent. The Eagles are likely to part ways with QB Michael Vick before Garcia comes back.

Footballguys view: We're not fans of Jeff Garcia coming back to help mentor Kevin Kolb, unless the old veteran has changed his attitude. Garcia thinks he's better than he actually is at this point in his career. He's a fiery competitor who thinks he should be the starter if the player ahead of him is struggling. It's clear that Kevin Kolb is the starter for the Eagles, but Garcia could start running his mouth if the young quarterback stumbles during the season.

Eagles | Garcia could be option if Vick traded    Sat Apr 10, 11:18 AM

Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports if the Philadelphia Eagles do end up trading or releasing QB Michael Vick in the coming weeks, free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Eagles) could be an option for the team. Garcia would be an ideal guy to mentor QB Kevin Kolb.

Footballguys view: Oh boy, talk about opening a can of worms. Jeff Garcia thinks he's much better than he is, and is a fiery competitor that could make things ugly in Philadelphia if he felt he should be the starter over Kolb. Some veterans bow out gracefully, doing whatever they can to help younger players become better. While other veterans still have ultimate (blind) confidence in their skill set and think they should be starters even when their game has drastically declined. Garcia is the latter.

NFL | Garcia wants to continue playing    Wed Mar 10, 11:16 AM

Anwar Richardson, of The Tampa Tribune, reports free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Eagles) believes he still has enough left in the tank to be an established NFL quarterback and continues to look for a job with a team. 'It's one of those of these things where my agent is out there. He has talked to people and it sounds like there is some interest out there,' Garcia said. 'It's just a matter of that interest stepping over and becoming a reality and somebody offering me a contract and getting the chance to come in and be a part of their team and hopefully be in a role where I can help a young guy out, or be a supportive backup, and go from there.'

Steelers | Contact Garcia    Mon Nov 23, 03:09 PM

Aaron Wilson, of the National Football Post, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have contacted free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Eagles) after losing QB Charlie Batch (wrist) to an injury, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Jeff Garcia is a potential problem in other locker rooms, but not in Pittsburgh. While he may think he should be the starter over the likes of JaMarcus Russell, Garcia knows that this is Big Ben's team. The Steelers could decide a veteran like Garcia would be a better starting option than Dennis Dixon.

Raiders | Garcia critical of players    Sat Oct 3, 10:10 AM

Steve Corkran, of the Oakland Tribune, reports free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Eagles) said during a radio interview Friday, Oct. 2, he asked to be released from the Oakland Raiders before the start of the season because of a lack of commitment from some players and him being powerless to effect change as a backup quarterback. 'It was to a point where I felt like guys who walked through those doors were just there to collect a check and not really interested in putting everything they had within themselves onto the football field,' Garcia said. Garcia added he didn't mind helping QB JaMarcus Russell develop into a better player. However, he felt as if too much was being asked of Russell and that, perhaps, Russell is not ready for a starring role. 'It's an unfortunate situation when the entire work ethic and the entire goal of the team is really put upon one guy's shoulder who really isn't maybe ready for that situation or ready to take on that sort of responsibility,' Garcia said.

Footballguys view: This puts the final nail in the coffin of Garcia's chances of playing with Oakland again.

Raiders | Have not talked about bringing Garcia back    Thu Oct 1, 01:39 PM

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable said the team has not talked about the possibility signing free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Eagles) at this point.

Footballguys view: JaMarcus Russell may be the worst starting quarterback in the league, but the former #1 overall pick has a long leash and it could take a few more weeks of horrible play for the Raiders to consider benching him. The Raiders may decide that Bruce Gradkowski or Charlie Frye would be an upgrade over Russell, and bringing back Jeff Garcia may be more headache than it's worth.

Eagles | Garcia released    Tue Sep 29, 04:08 PM

Matt Mosley, of ESPN.com, reports the Philadelphia Eagles have released QB Jeff Garcia.

Eagles | Likely to have three active QBs Sunday    Fri Sep 25, 03:58 PM

The Associated Press reports the Philadelphia Eagles are likely to have three quarterbacks active Sunday, Sept. 27, with QB Donovan McNabb (rib) hurt. McNabb is doubtful to play against the Kansas City Chiefs, which means QBs Kevin Kolb, Michael Vick and Jeff Garcia might all be active.   Eagles | Unsure who No. 2 quarterback could be Week 3    Mon Sep 21, 12:51 PM

The Associated Press reports Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid is not sure whether QB Jeff Garcia or QB Michael Vick would be the backup quarterback if QB Kevin Kolb starts in Week 3. Kolb would receive the starting nod if QB Donovan McNabb (rib) is unable to play.

Footballguys view: With the way that Kolb played against the Saints, it wouldn't surprise us to see Vick or Garcia in the lineup if Kolb's struggles continue.

Eagles | Garcia reaches agreement    Mon Sep 14, 05:08 PM

Adam Schefter, from ESPN, reports the Philadelphia Eagles have reached an agreement with unrestricted free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Raiders). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Garcia asked for his release from the Oakland Raiders, and now finds his way to Philadelphia. The Eagles have a logjam at quarterback behind Donovan McNabb with Kevin Kolb, Michael Vick, and Jeff Garcia on the roster. When McNabb comes back from his rib injury, and Vick is cleared to play it's likely we could see Garcia dumped back into free agency.

Raiders | Garcia asked for his release    Sat Sep 12, 06:30 PM

Adam Schefter, from ESPN, reports on his twitter feed that Raiders coach Tom Cable said today Jeff Garcia asked for his release. "It was a shock to us all," Cable said. "We were blown away."

Footballguys view: Garcia's ego never ceases to amaze! He wanted a shot in Oakland, but he wasn't healthy and didn't perform up to expectations when he did play. A team that is desperate for quarterback help may take a look at Garcia after week one, but they had better be ready to deal with an instant QB controversy - at least in the eyes of Garcia.

NFL | Garcia may want to play if the situation is right    Sun Sep 6, 08:28 PM

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski spoke with free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (Raiders) and Gradkowski believes Garcia may still want to play in the NFL if it were the right situation.

Footballguys view: The right situation for Garcia is as the unquestioned starter. It's simply not going to happen for the veteran quarterback, unless a team is ravaged by injury. He needs to provide quality depth for a team, and wait for his chance to start again.

Raiders | Garcia released    Sat Sep 5, 07:24 PM

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports the Oakland Raiders have released QB Jeff Garcia.

Footballguys view: Garcia still thinks he's better than he really is, and the Raiders must not have wanted him to be a distraction if starter JaMarcus Russell struggles. Other teams might take a look at him, but he may have to wait to get picked up until injuries strike later in the season.

Raiders | Could Garcia be released?    Sat Sep 5, 09:04 AM

Bill Williamson, of ESPN.com, reports it would not be a complete shock if the Oakland Raiders decided to release QB Jeff Garcia, according to John Clayton, of ESPN.com. The team could in part decide to release Garcia because he may be unhappy being a backup to QB JaMarcus Russell.

Footballguys view: Jeff Garcia isn't necessarily a malcontent, he's just ultra competitive and thinks he's better than he actually is at this point in his career. If he's cut, there should be teams interested in bringing him in - but only as a backup.
