Raiders | Russell makes good on promise Sat Jul 11, 09:33 AM
Jason La Canfora, of NFL Network, reports Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell made good on his promise to gather some of the team's wide receivers for a secret passing camp before reporting for training camp July 29. Russell invited WRs Louis Murphy, Todd Watkins and Will Franklin, among others, while playing for their airfare, to his passing camp in Alabama, presumably with the intent of improving their timing and chemistry and rapport off the field.
Footballguys view: Murphy has been getting a lot of buzz as one of the most impressive rookies at Raiders OTAs, so it's great to hear that he's getting extra work with Russell. Russell needed to do this to make up for going AWOL on the last day of minicamp. |

Raiders | Franklin claimed off waivers Tue May 19, 10:28 AM
Raiders.com reports the Oakland Raiders have claimed WR Will Franklin off waivers from the Detroit Lions.
Footballguys view: When you consider that Franklin ran a sub-4.4 40 at the combine last year, it makes sense that the Raiders would want to give him a look-see. It's not encouraging for Franklin that his time with the Lions was so short after he got his release from the Chiefs. He'll be one of the wideouts trying to push Javon Walker to retirement. |

Lions | WR Will Franklin cut Sun May 17, 03:17 PM
Franklin, a third-round pick of Kansas City last year, was in a heated competition at WR, and became even more expendable after the team drafted Penn State's Derrick Williams in the third-round of last month's draft.
Footballguys view: The 23-year-old speedster caught seven passes in 13 games as a rookie with the Chiefs. He was claimed off waivers only a month ago when the new regime in KC felt he was expendable. He may draw some interest on the waiver wire because last month the Raiders, Rams, Colts, and Eagles all put in claims for him. His future in the pros looks bleak and perhaps he will be best remembered for being Darnay Scott's cousin when all is said and done. |
