49ers | Dee Ford on track for opener    Sat Aug 17, 04:26 PM

San Francisco 49ers DE Dee Ford (knee) is on track to play in Week 1, according to general manager John Lynch.

Footballguys view: About two weeks ago, Ford had a PRP injection to help with his knee tendinitis. The plan was for him to miss some preseason time but be ready for the season opener. Things remain on track for the star pass-rusher. Earlier this year, Ford signed a five-year, $85 million contract after the 49ers sent a 2020 second-round pick to the Chiefs for his services.

San Francisco 49ers DL Dee Ford (knee) had a platelet-rich plasma injection in his knee which has tendinitis and will be out at least a week, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan Sunday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: His Week 1 isn't in danger yet, but this isn't a great sign for the shape his knee is in going into the season. At least Nick Bosa is healthy.

49ers | Dee Ford financial details    Sat Mar 16, 11:54 AM

Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers LB Dee Ford's five-year contract has a base value of $85 million and a maximum value of $87.5 million, with $45 million in guaranteed money. The deal can turn into a one-year, $20.5 million pact, with $19.75 million in guaranteed money due by next week. The remaining $25.25 million in guaranteed money is for injury only, with $13.65 million becoming fully guaranteed April 1, 2020. If the 49ers cut Ford after the 2019 season, they would take a salary cap hit of $6.4 million. If he remains with San Francisco for the full length of the contract, he would earn base salaries of $14.5 million in 2020, $16 million in 2021 and $17 million each during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Updating previous reports, impending San Francisco 49ers LB Dee Ford will receive a five-year, $87.5 million contract upon being officially traded from the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The 49ers had to get Ford a new deal since he was franchise tagged by the Chiefs. Ford didn't fit the Chiefs new defense but he is going to be unleashed with the 49ers, in a manner similar to how the Chiefs were using him.

Chiefs | Two NFC clubs interested in Dee Ford    Sat Mar 9, 11:51 AM

The Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers have expressed interest in trading for Kansas City Chiefs LB Dee Ford, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs may only be asking for a second-round pick. That's a good price for a pass rusher like Ford. New Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo is changing the Chiefs' base defense from a 3-4 to a 4-3 front, a move that doesn't fit Ford's skill set.

Chiefs | Dee Ford expected to be tagged    Sat Feb 16, 07:32 PM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent LB Dee Ford likely will receive the franchise tag this offseason.

Footballguys view: Ford is not against playing on the franchise tag in 2019, telling NFL.com earlier this year "That's out of my control. If it happens, it happens, and I don't mind it." He could have an even larger payday in 2020 if he continues to perform at a high level this season. Either way, we don't expect Ford to go anywhere this offseason.

Chiefs | Dee Ford open to tag    Thu Jan 24, 03:59 PM

Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent LB Dee Ford wants to stay with the Chiefs and he said he wouldn't mind receiving the franchise tag this offseason.

Footballguys view: Most players don't like the franchise tag because it's a one-year deal and there is no long-term security. Ford seems to be open to the tag, and the Chiefs have plenty of big-money decisions coming up. Franchise tags for linebackers are expected to be worth at least $15 million.

Chiefs | Dee Ford could get franchised    Sun Jan 20, 10:02 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly considering giving the franchise tag to DE Dee Ford, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: Ford, a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, had 13.0 sacks in 2018 and is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2019. The projected salary for a franchise-tagged OLB is around $15.6 million. According to OverTheCap.com, the Chiefs have around $35.9 million in cap space for 2019 at this time.

Chiefs | Dee Ford on track to practice    Mon Jul 23, 02:33 PM

Kansas City Chiefs LB Dee Ford (back) is doing well in his recovery and should be able to participate in padded practices.

Footballguys view: The Chiefs need Ford to stay healthy and produce up to his potential as a pass rusher in 2018. Ford's 2017 season ended due to this back injury which required surgery. He did some individual work during the offseason and should get eased into action during training camp and the preseason.
