Cardinals | Larry Foote joins coaching staff    Thu Feb 19, 12:04 PM

Free-agent LB Larry Foote (Cardinals) has joined the Arizona Cardinals' coaching staff as he contemplates the future of his playing career. Foote will sign his contract with the team later this week, according to head coach Bruce Arians. Arians said Foote could return to playing before rosters are cut down.

Footballguys view: I suppose you could say he has one 'Foote' in retirement! No? Ok, on a less corny note, any time a player takes a coaching position with a team, it's easy to figure he feels like he is done. Foote played poorly in the latter half of the 2014 season, and by the end of it he his level of play tended towards terrible. We expect him to call it a career or if he doesn't to have little impact on the field at all next season.

Cardinals | Deone Bucannon to play nickel linebacker?    Fri Jul 25, 02:57 AM

Arizona Cardinals first-round rookie SS Deone Bucannon could replace LB Larry Foote in nickel packages to take advantage of Bucannon's athleticism in pass coverage. Head coach Bruce Arians noted the defense will be molded to fit the players, rather than trying to make the players fit a specific system.

Cardinals | Bruce Arians talks up his defense    Fri Jul 25, 02:54 AM

Arizona Cardinals LBs Kevin Minter and Larry Foote are expected to start next to each other at each inside linebacker spot in Arizona's 3-4 defense, replacing last year's starters, LBs Daryl Washington (suspended) and Karlos Dansby (Browns). Minter played one snap on defense as a rookie in 2013, but is expected to be an upgrade against the run from last year's interior duo. Foote, 34, enters his 13th year in the NFL, giving head coach Bruce Arians a contrasting pair inside. 'You are going to miss Daryl's (Washington) speed, because he's going to correct his mistake with speed. Larry (Foote) is not going to make that mistake. Whether or not he can get there fast enough, that's (left) to be seen.'

Steelers | Joey Porter could be a head coach     Wed Jul 2, 03:34 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive assistant coach Joey Porter could be a head coach one day, according to former teammate Larry Foote. "I think he's going to be a head coach in this league one day," Foote said. "I think he has that 'it' factor to be a head coach if he stays the course. He has an enthusiasm and excitement that you can't teach, you can't develop, you've just got to be born with it and I'm excited. Hopefully he grows from the coaching side, X's and O's, organization and stuff like that. But shoot, he's on the fast track because he can lead men, he can get men to run through a wall."

Footballguys view: Who Ride!?! We Ride! That was one of the greatest pregame chants in the league. Porter is an enthusiastic player and could turn out to be a fine disciple of Dick LeBeau.

Cardinals | Larry Foote may start    Fri May 30, 11:12 PM

Arizona Cardinals LB Larry Foote may start at inside linebacker this upcoming season because of the suspension to LB Daryl Washington.

Footballguys view: Foote has a ton of experience, but he's not the same player he used to be. He's certainly not as capable in coverage as Washington is. Losing Washington is a huge blow for the Cardinals defense, and they may have to use sub-package players to take his place on passing downs. Foote can be a two-down thumper, but that's it.

Steelers | Three players released    Wed Mar 5, 04:15 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released OT Levi J. Brown, LB Larry Foote and CB Curtis Brown.

Footballguys view: More painful cuts for the Steelers here. They've restructured the deals of Troy Polamalu and Heath Miller today, but that wasn't enough. Before this flurry of activity, the Steelers were one of two teams in the NFL over the salary cap. Foote is the long-time Steeler here, but he may retire after seeing his skill set dwindle over the last year or two.

Steelers | Larry Foote doesn't think Jarvis Jones will start    Wed Jun 5, 12:58 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers LB Larry Foote thinks OLB Jason Worilds, not rookie Jarvis Jones, will start in place of James Harrison, who left via free agency. 'It's going to be difficult [for Jones to start immediately],' Foote said. 'There is so much technique, [knowing] where to line up, inside or outside.' Foote said, however, that at least Jones played in a 3-4 as a Georgia Bulldog.

Footballguys view: Jones may begin the season as a backup and situational pass rusher. However, his natural talent far exceeds that of Worilds and we should see him in the starting lineup at some point during his rookie season.
