Colts | Indianapolis moves on from Nick Foles    Fri May 5, 03:33 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Nick Foles was released Friday, May 5.

Footballguys view: Who knows whether or not Foles is going to call it a career. Foles could still sign with a team for veteran depth, if he decides to keep playing football.

Colts | Nick Foles to miss season finale    Mon Jan 2, 01:17 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Nick Foles (ribs) is in 'a lot of pain' after he was carted off the field in Week 17 versus the New York Giants and will not play in Week 18 against the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: Inserting Foles as the starter didn't work, and he got injured in the process. Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday named Sam Ehlinger as the Week 18 starter over Matt Ryan. We'll monitor Ehlinger in super deep dynasty formats, but this is a downgrade for the Colts' offense.

Colts | Nick Foles to start again in Week 17    Tue Dec 27, 02:36 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Nick Foles will draw another start in Week 17 against the New York Giants, according to head coach Jeff Saturday. Sam Ehlinger will remain his backup, while Matt Ryan will be inactive.

Footballguys view: The Colts are just trying to get to the end of the regular season. They'll start Foles, but inside the building, they are looking at options for 2023 and beyond. At this time, the Colts have the no.5 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. That means guys like QB Bryce Young (Alabama) or QB C.J. Stroud (Ohio State) could be options for them - if either one is available at that time. They'd likely need a higher draft pick if Young or Stroud is their target to be the team's quarterback of the future.

Colts | Nick Foles starting for Indy    Wed Dec 21, 11:43 AM

Indianapolis Colts QB Nick Foles will start in Week 16.

Footballguys view: The Colts had to move on from QB Matt Ryan (again) after the historic failure against the Vikings last week. Foles has plenty of starting experience, but reports indicate he hasn't taken any first-team snaps since the summer. He should be able to get into the swing of things quickly, and this is an upgrade for the Colts' pass catchers. We like Foles as a streaming option in Week 16 against the Chargers.

Colts | Indy not settled on Sam Ehlinger    Tue Nov 8, 09:49 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Sam Ehlinger will start in Week 10 but the team could move to QBs Nick Foles or Matt Ryan if things continue to go south, owner Jim Irsay said on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Footballguys view: That's good news in what is looking more like a lost season for the Colts. It's a cluster-you-know-what in Indianapolis with interim head coach Jeff Saturday likely in over his head. Ehlinger has been flat-out bad as the team's starter, and going back to Ryan or giving Foles a chance to start would be a much better plan...unless your plan is to tank for a better draft pick.

Colts | Indy benches Matt Ryan, turns to Sam Ehlinger    Mon Oct 24, 01:53 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Ryan has been removed as the starting quarterback effective immediately, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Sam Ehlinger is expected to replace him as the starter for the remainder of the season and Nick Foles will remain the primary backup. The Colts owner Jim Irsay was rumored to be the one to make this call. Head coach Frank Reich was not making it work with Ryan who looks washed at this point in his career. Ehlinger was a sixth-round pick out of Texas in the 2021 NFL draft. He's a fearless dual-threat quarterback who can attack a defense with his arm or his legs. We'll see if Reich can get more controlled play from the young and wild passer.

Eagles | Philly was interested in Nick Foles    Mon May 23, 12:53 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles were one of the teams with interest in Indianapolis Colts QB Nick Foles before he signed his two-year contract, per source.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have Garnder Minshew and Carson Strong as the primary backups behind Jalen Hurts. They have gone all in around Hurts this offseason, so having a seasoned veteran like Foles would've been nice insurance. Apparently, their interest only went so far financially and Foles signs with Indianapolis.

Colts | Nick Foles agrees to terms with Indy    Mon May 23, 12:33 PM

Free-agent QB Nick Foles agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday, May 23, per source. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: He played under Colts HC Frank Reich when the two won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles. Foles asked for his release earlier this month, and many speculated that he would end up with the Colts. It's a good spot for him to be as veteran insurance behind new starter Matt Ryan.

Colts | Indy interested in Nick Foles    Fri May 20, 05:19 PM

Free-agent QB Nick Foles (Bears) is receiving interest from the Indianapolis Colts, but the two sides have not reached an agreement at this time, according to sources.

Footballguys view: This report has been out there for quite some time. In fact, when Foles asked for his release from the Bears it was the Colts - and his previous working relationship with Colts HC Frank Reich - who jumped to the top of the landing spots. We'll see if something gets done in the near future, but we expect Foles to have a new team before the start of training camp.

Colts | IND won't rule out veteran backup QB    Sun May 15, 04:04 PM

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich isn't ruling out a reunion with free-agent QB Nick Foles (Bears) when asked about it on Friday, May 13. 'We're always looking at who makes this team better, at every position. Who are the available veterans? Who can we still sign?' Reich said. '[General manager] Chris [Ballard] is very methodical about that process. We're not in a rush. There is a timing to the way things go, and the way the roster is put together, that is very intentional.'

Footballguys view: That move would make sense for the Colts since they have designs of making a deep postseason run. Matt Ryan is the starter, but behind him they lack experience with guys like Sam Ehlinger and James Morgan. Adding a veteran like Foles, who was released by the Bears at his request in the beginning of May, would be a wise move to give them insurance in the event Ryan gets banged up.

Bears | Chicago agrees to release Nick Foles    Sun May 1, 11:31 AM

The Chicago Bears agreed to release QB Nick Foles Saturday, April 30, according to his agent, Justin Schulman.

Footballguys view: It's a "good guy" move for the Bears. General manager Ryan Poles decided to allow him to find a new team through free agency rather than continue to look for a trade partner. The Bears had been looking for a trade partner for some time. Now, Foles gets to pick his landing spot and should have a few teams (at least) interested in adding him as a valuable no.2 quarterback.

Chicago Bears QB Nick Foles was named the starting quarterback for Week 16 against the Seattle Seahawks after QB Justin Fields (ankle) did not practice for a second consecutive day Friday, Dec. 24.

Chicago Bears QB Nick Foles will serve as the team's backup quarterback for Week 13's game against the Arizona Cardinals, according to head coach Matt Nagy. QB Andy Dalton will receive the starting nod because QB Justin Fields (ribs) is expected to miss the game due to bruised ribs.

Bears | Chicago undecided about QB for Week 4    Mon Sep 27, 02:08 PM

Chicago Bears QBs Justin Fields and Nick Foles are under consideration to start in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions if Andy Dalton (knee) is unable to play, according to comments from head coach Matt Nagy on Monday, Sept. 27. Nagy told reporters he 'can't definitively say' who will get the nod.

Footballguys view: Even Adam Gase thinks Nagy is off the mark. Fields was bad in Week 3, sacked nine times while he only threw for 68 yards. The rookie first-round pick is athletic as a runner and intelligent as a passer, but Nagy is not the offensive genius he was promoted to be. He seemed lost when putting together a gameplan for Fields, someone who should be able to attack a defense with his legs and arm. The problem in Chicago is the coaching staff, and going with Nick Foles is not going to save them. Hopefully Fields isn't ruined during his time with Nagy. All Fantasy GMs need to downgrade Bears skill position players until they figure things out...and that could take a coaching change.

Bears | Nick Foles third in the pecking order    Wed Jun 2, 09:42 PM

Chicago Bears QB Nick Foles will be the No. 3 quarterback behind QB Andy Dalton and QB Justin Fields, according to head coach Matt Nagy.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Fields was the 2021 first-round pick and the Bears are hoping he can be the franchise quarterback they've been looking for. He will compete with Dalton, who the team brought in via free agency, to be the starter this season. Foles is there to hold a clipboard and has a cap hit of $10.6 million...with $7.6 million in dead money.

Bears | Nick Foles difficult to move    Fri Apr 30, 12:40 PM

Chicago Bears QB Nick Foles is guaranteed $4 million in 2021 and $5 million in 2022 on his current contract, making him difficult to move.

Footballguys view: Foles is difficult to move because nobody wants to pay him that much to hold a clipboard. We could see the Bears have to pay part of his salary, in a manner similar to what the Panthers had to do to move Teddy Bridgewater, if they want to trade him away.

Bears | Nick Foles could open 2021 as QB1    Fri Feb 5, 12:44 AM

Chicago Bears QB Nick Foles could be the team's Week 1 starter under certain scenarios, in the opinion of The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain, who writes that one of them could be as a bridge to an early-round draft pick.

Footballguys view: Foles is signed through the 2022 season. The Bears aren't going to take that next step with him or Mitchell Trubisky (who is a free agent this offseason), and that's why they'll have to pick somebody to be a bridge quarterback.
