Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick earns another start    Mon Nov 28, 04:27 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain the starting quarterback in Week 13, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: Congrats Jets fans....but fantasy fans should consider Fitzpatrick in two-QB leagues. The Jets play the Colts on Monday night in Week 13. The Colts have the 30th pass defense in the league allowing an average of 278.7 yards per game through the air.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick fully practices    Thu Nov 24, 05:47 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) participated fully in practice Thursday, Nov. 24.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick has been awful but the coaching staff think Bryce Petty is worse, so Fitzpatrick will be playing. There are many who believe the coaching staff are foolish for using Fitzpatrick, and we think it'd be even more foolish to have him in any fantasy lineup. He is a QB3 who has the capacity to implode and kill you with turnovers. Avoid this at all costs.

Jets | Patriots bode poorly for Ryan Fitzpatrick    Tue Nov 22, 04:19 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has thrown 18 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in nine career games against the New England Patriots. He holds a 2-7 record in those nine contests.

Footballguys view: Nobody should be relying on Fitzpatrick to do much of anything. The Jets have to start him because Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg are not ready (and maybe just not that good).

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick named Week 12 starter    Mon Nov 21, 02:26 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will get the start in Week 12 against the New England Patriots, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: We're not excited by this news. Fitzpatrick is only a low-end TE2 this week, even against a Patriots defense you can pick on in spots.

Jets | Fitzpatrick benching would cause revolt?    Fri Nov 18, 01:03 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is still so far ahead of Bryce Petty in the eyes of the players that head coach Todd Bowles is reportedly reluctant to make a change at the position for fear he would lose the team.

Footballguys view: This is good news for Brandon Marshall, but still not a material change in his value, as Fitzpatrick has been on a short leash and playing more conservative as of late.

Jets | GM says coach has final say on QB    Wed Nov 16, 10:10 PM

Updating a previous report, the New York Jets have not named QB Ryan Fitzpatrick or Bryce Petty as their starting quarterback for Week 11, and general manager Mike Maccagnan said Wednesday, Nov. 16, that head coach Todd Bowles will have 'final say' on the identity of the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

Footballguys view: It's ridiculous this is even a question given the Jets have nothing to play for and have to find out what Petty can do. The Jets and their fanbase should be extremely frustrated with the constant indecision from Bowles, especially when the answers seem obvious to everyone else.

Jets | Starter not named yet for Jets    Mon Nov 14, 03:54 PM

New York Jets QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Bryce Petty will have to wait another week before knowing who will start. Head coach Todd Bowles said he won't name a starter until Monday, Nov. 21, since the Jets have a bye this week.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners shouldn't be on edge waiting for confirmation either way. The Jets could go back to Fitzpatrick after Petty started in Week 10. Fitzpatrick is dealing with a knee sprain (MCL) and Petty was largely ineffective in the loss to the Rams on Sunday.

Jets | Starting quarterback unknown for Jets    Mon Nov 14, 09:32 AM

New York Jets QB Bryce Petty or QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) could be the starting quarterback in Week 11, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: There's zero reason to have Ryan Fitzpatrick under center. The team has to learn if Petty is the guy and you have to have more than one game's worth of film to be sure. Bringing Fitzpatrick back in would be another in a long line of terrible coaching decisions for the Jets this season.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick is game-time decision    Fri Nov 11, 05:47 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) was able to practice on a limited basis Friday, Nov. 11, and he is listed as questionable for the Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Rams. 'He's getting better than he was,' head coach Todd Bowles said. 'I still have to see him work out Sunday to make that decision.' If Fitzpatrick is unable to play, QB Bryce Petty would make his first NFL start.

Footballguys view: Either way, it's not good news for Brandon Marshall or Matt Forte this week. With a questionable Todd Gurley and Case Keenum on the other side of the ball, this could be a game typified by offensive futility.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick limited    Thu Nov 10, 06:28 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) put in a limited practice Thursday, Nov. 10.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick is still the Jets starting quarterback, a baffling concept since the Jets are literally just playing because it's scheduled. Why Bryce Petty isn't under center brings up questions as to what is motivating this coaching staff. Don't put Fitzpatrick in your lineup this week, unless you get points for your quarterback throwing picks.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick back on the field    Thu Nov 10, 12:13 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) is participating in practice Thursday, Nov. 10.

Footballguys view: "Ryan Fitzpatrick back on the field" sounds either like a warning or a threat to Jets fans. Nothing good can come of it, but here he is, still playing. The Jets are being dense not trying out Bryce Petty or even Christian Hackenberg. There is nothing to play for now, save the future and we know Fitzpatrick isn't it. What is he then? For Fantasy purposes, nobody you should have in your lineup and probably not on your roster. Find something more useful to do with the slot.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick likely to get Week 10 nod    Tue Nov 8, 12:33 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (shoulder) is expected to play in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Rams despite spraining his left MCL in a Week 9 loss to the Miami Dolphins, according to a source.

Footballguys view: What are the Jets waiting for? They need to evaluate their young QBs, and Fitzpatrick is not 100 percent. Bryce Petty will draw the start if Fitzpatrick cannot go.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick has MCL sprain    Mon Nov 7, 11:30 AM

Updating previous reports, New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee during the Week 9 game, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The injury isn't believed to be serious, but it could give the Jets a reason to look at one of their young QBs. They need to evaluate Byrce Petty and/or Christian Hackenberg, and they could make a QB change after the Week 11 bye.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick mistake-prone in loss    Sun Nov 6, 09:53 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) completed 17 of his 28 pass attempts for 193 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also ran three times for 26 yards. Fitzpatrick suffered a knee injury and was replaced briefly by QB Bryce Petty.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick had a few egregious moments in addition to getting banged up. We'll probably see Bryce Petty as soon as the Jets feel like he won't be a liability. The Jets have Los Angeles next week, and then a bye, so Fitzpatrick might only have one start left.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick so-so in victory    Sun Oct 30, 10:04 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 16 of his 34 pass attempts for 228 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the Week 8 game against the Cleveland Browns. He also rushed four times for 13 yards.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick was still rough and one wonders if the team will turn to Bryce Petty when they judge the second year quarterback is ready. The Browns had surrendered multiple pass scores to everyone they faced this year, so Fitzpatrick's one score is a good picture of where he is right now. Miami is a good matchup next week, but Fitzpatrick is sinking.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick ready to break out?    Thu Oct 27, 12:19 AM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will face the Cleveland Browns in Week 8 with QB Geno Smith (knee) out for the season. Fitzpatrick gets a chance to shred a Browns pass defense allowing 285.7 yards per game through the air, ranking 29th in the NFL. They are also tied for the league lead with 18 pass touchdowns allowing with an AFC-high 29 pass plays of 20 or more yards.

Footballguys view: Here's the thing--Fitzpatrick is going to play with a chip on his shoulder--a giant, baby-pacifier looking chip--since "nobody believes in me" anymore. So sure, against a garbage defense he could do well. Of course, he has done nothing to tell us he can this season, so we're not putting him as anything other than what he is--at best, a middle-of-the-road QB2.

Jets | Geno Smith done for the season    Wed Oct 26, 02:07 AM

Updating previous reports, New York Jets QB Geno Smith (knee) did suffer a torn MCL, according to head coach Todd Bowles, and will not play again this season.

Footballguys view: Smith's time with the Jets is likely done. He'll get picked up by a second team, and we'll see if he can finally get his career on track. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will start in Week 8.

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 9-for-14 for 120 yards and one touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7. Fitzpatrick entered the game when QB Geno Smith (knee) left with an injury.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick still has minimal fantasy value, but if he is the starter against Cleveland next week, he could be worth a streamer play.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick benched    Wed Oct 19, 11:29 AM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has lost the starting quarterback job Wednesday, Oct. 19, according to league sources.

Footballguys view: He'll be a $12 million backup for the Jets as they want to look at Geno Smith as their starter. If Smith struggles, then perhaps the team will turn to a young QB like Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg instead of going back to Fitzpatrick.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick on shaky ground?    Wed Oct 19, 02:20 AM

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles indicated during a press conference Tuesday, Oct. 18, that he has 'revisited' his post-game comments that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick 'is our starter,' but did not say he was making a change. Bowles also mentioned it was 'definitely possible' that QBs Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg could see action before season's end.

Footballguys view: Of course Fitzpatrick is on shaky ground. The Jets have to eventually see what they have in young QBs like Petty and Hackenberg. They drafted Hackenberg this year after passing on Paxton Lynch in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. If he's the QB of the future, the team might as well throw him out there when Fitzpatrick is done.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick to start in Week 7    Tue Oct 18, 12:27 AM

Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to start in Week 7 against the Baltimore Ravens. 'Fitz will be back next week,' head coach Todd Bowles said Monday, Oct. 17. 'The game was 28-3. There was eight minutes left in the game. We weren't doing anything else. I just wanted to get (QB Geno Smith) some reps.'

Footballguys view: What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over yet expecting different results seems to be the way with Fitzpatrick. The magic is gone, the Jets are going nowhere and this would be a perfect opportunity to see what you have in Smith or Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg. Instead, the Jets are sticking with Fitzpatrick. Good luck with that.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick still the starter    Mon Oct 3, 05:06 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will not be benched despite his recent struggles, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: What else can the Jets do, turn things over to Geno Smith? That wouldn't yield positive results. The rookie they drafted in the second round (Christian Hackenberg) does not seem ready by all accounts, and the only other choice they have would to insert Bryce Petty. The Jets have one of the worst QB situations in the league, and this negatively impacts the fantasy value of guys like Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick struggles again    Sun Oct 2, 09:28 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 23 of his 41 pass attempts for 261 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in the Week 4 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick had a very tough matchup today, but he still doesn't look as sharp as he did for most of last year, and losing Eric Decker isn't going to help. Next week at least brings a softer pass defense with the Steelers on the schedule. Fitzpatrick is losing his luster as a streamer.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick's job not in jeopardy    Sun Oct 2, 01:25 AM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is in no danger of losing his starting job in the wake of his terrible Week 3 performance, and the Jets remain fully invested in Fitzpatrick for 2016, according to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta.

Footballguys view: The Jets don't really have a choice other than Geno Smith, who would not be a big downgrade for fantasy, but probably would doom the Jets to a losing season. Without Eric Decker for some part (or all) of the remainder of the season - and no guarantee of an effective Decker when he does return, this passing game is trending down.

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 20 of his 44 pass attempts for 188 yards and an 18.2 QB rating while tossing a career-worst six interceptions in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs. 'The trust is the same,' head coach Todd Bowles said Sunday, Sept. 25. 'He had a bad day at the office. Last week, he had a great day at the office.'

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick wins AFC award for Week 2    Thu Sep 22, 07:18 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2 after completing 24 of 34 passes for 374 yards and a touchdown in the team's win over the Buffalo Bills.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick has become a pretty decent play the first few weeks of the season, and despite the Chiefs' defense we like him as really nice QB2 play this weekend. We might downgrade him if we get an indication that Brandon Marshall or Eric Decker (or both) is out for the game, although Quincy Enunwa has been very good as well.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick shreds Buffalo    Fri Sep 16, 12:19 AM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 24 of his 34 passes for 374 yards and a touchdown and ran five times for 21 yards in a 37-31 win over the Buffalo Bills Thursday, Sept. 15.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick could have had a huge fantasy day if Matt Forte hadn't finished three of the touchdown drives. He looked calm in the pocket and made accurate downfield passing look very easy, always putting the ball where only his receiver could make a play on the ball. He's a solid streamer choice next week against the Justin Houston-less Chiefs.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick might struggle in Week 2    Wed Sep 14, 11:02 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has struggled against defenses led by Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan, either as head coach or defensive coordinator. Fitzpatrick is 1-8 in nine games as a starter, throwing for 166.0 yards per game with 16 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a completion percentage of just 47.0 in 11 games.

Footballguys view: It's Ryan Fitzpatrick! Struggle is his middle name. We're not counting on Fitzpatrick in fantasy leagues. Thursday night games are something we usually tend to avoid, and Fitzpatrick is a player we have better options than in any format.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick focused on improving    Thu Sep 8, 08:37 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said he thinks he is a better player than he was last year, and he spent the offseason focusing on improving his third-down and red-zone efficiency.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick was way out over his skis last season, which is why his implosion in Week 17 was no real shock. Those two things are important for him to improve, but not throwing it to the other team might be a higher priority. Fitzpatrick's value will wax and wane on a weekly basis, and this week he has a tough matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals and so we see him as a low-end QB2.

Jets | NYJ may keep four QBs on roster    Mon Aug 22, 02:51 AM

The New York Jets are leaning toward keeping four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, with QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryce Petty, Geno Smith and Christian Hackenberg making the cut.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick is the starter for now, but his future with the team after this season is not a given. Who knows what the future holds for Smith, but he's likely in his final season with the Jets. Petty is a work-in-progress as a pro passer -- and that's putting in nicely. Hackenberg was added to be the future starter, but it's been some time since he's looked consistently good on the football field. Good luck Jets fans, it will be interesting to see how this develops.

Jets | Big expectations for Quincy Enunwa    Fri Aug 12, 12:12 AM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said he thinks WR Quincy Enunwa can develop into a 'big-time weapon' for the offense. Enunwa had a team-high 69 yards in a 17-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: Dynasty owners should take note here. However, re-draft owners know this passing game is all about WRs Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Enunwa would only do something fantasy relevant if injuries strike above him on the depth chart.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick will be starter    Thu Jul 28, 05:05 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starting quarterback in 2016, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: This is less shocking than finding out Darth Vader is Luke's father but more than discovering Superman and Batman both have moms named Martha. On the serious tip, of course we knew this and Fitzpatrick should be a low-end QB2 in this offense, given the continuity of it. Fitzpatrick is an able backup with some upside, but that schedule scares us....like Zack Snyder doing another DC movie.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick working with starters    Thu Jul 28, 03:34 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is receiving most of the snaps with the first-team offense during practice Thursday, July 28. QB Geno Smith has also received a few snaps with the starters.

Footballguys view: As expected. We still expect Smith to be there just in case Fitzpatrick implodes or gets hurt this season, since nobody else has experience. Bryce Petty is likely to be cut and stashed on the practice squad if at all possible. Fitzpatrick is a low-end QB2 or a solid QB3. He has the weapons and was solid last year but the schedule and his meltdown in Week 17 keep us leery of him.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick returning to New York    Wed Jul 27, 07:05 PM

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the New York Jets Wednesday, July 27, worth $12 million. Fitzpatrick can earn an additional $3 million based on the team's performance.

Footballguys view: Finally! The drama between Fitzpatrick and the Jets is finally done...and it's for a price tag that we've been expecting for quite some time. Fitzpatrick saw all the money thrown around to guys like Sam Bradford (Eagles) and Brock Osweiler (Texans) earlier this offseason and wanted a piece of that. He didn't get it..and never was going to get it. Now, he gets $12 million fully guaranteed with a chance to earn another $3 million in incentives. Fantasy owners should consider him a low-end QB2.
