Jets | Brandon Marshall doesn't want Kaep    Wed Feb 3, 01:46 PM

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall said he doesn't want the team to acquire San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and wants the team to re-sign impending free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. 'I don't want Kaepernick,' Marshall said on ESPN's 'First Take.' 'I think he's good. My guy's Fitz,' Marshall explained. 'It's nothing against Kaepernick, but what I'm saying is that I have my quarterbacks and I'm good.'

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick and the Jets are expected to discuss a contract extension in the coming weeks. Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said he's 'like very much' to re-sign Fitzpatrick this offseason. Even if Fitzpatrick is not the QB of the future, he's likely the QB of the now for the Jets.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick talks coming soon?    Tue Feb 2, 07:45 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets are expected to discuss a contract extension in the coming weeks.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick may not be the quarterback of the future with the Jets, but it just makes sense to keep him around as a placeholder while the team tries to find a young franchise quarterback. OC Chan Gailey has been able to get the best out of Fitzpatrick during their time together with the Jets, just like they did with the Bills years ago. Re-signing Fitzpatrick is the biggest no-brainer of all the Jets offseason decisions.

Jets | New York wants to re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick    Thu Jan 14, 12:58 PM

New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said he's 'like very much' to re-sign QB Ryan Fitzpatrick this offseason.

Footballguys view: After the season he had--even with the end being ugly--Fitzpatrick seemed to have the light go on. How much is the big question as Fitzpatrick has earned a big payday before and then fell apart. The Jets have to be cautious here but won't want to screw up an offense that was really effective when healthy. By the same point, there is a lot of talent on the defense they need to pay as well.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick hopes to return    Mon Jan 4, 01:38 PM

New York Jets impending free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said he hopes to re-sign with the Jets this offseason.

Footballguys view: The Jets need a QB of the future (unless they think Bryce Petty could be that guy), but bringing back Fitzpatrick only makes sense. He has thrived under OC Chan Gailey in two stops now in the NFL, and he could be a consistent starter while the next QB is groomed behind him.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick has inconsistent outing    Sun Jan 3, 05:29 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 16-for-37 for 181 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions against the Buffalo Bills in Week 17. Fitzpatrick threw 31 touchdown passes this season, which set a franchise record.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick was a dud with the Jets season on the line. He still should command a good salary on the open market and likely enter next season as the team's starter. His career has been revived with Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, and Chan Gailey on his side.

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb, elbow, back) is practicing fully Thursday, Dec. 31.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick has multiple injuries    Wed Dec 30, 05:31 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb, elbow, back) is dealing with a variety of injuries, but 'nothing serious,' according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: The veteran QB is fighting through the pain for his teammates as the Jets are looking to lock up a postseason ticket. Fitzpatrick has dealt with a surgically repaired thumb since the middle of the recent and had been practicing in full in recent weeks. His elbow and back injuries came from Week 16.

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 26-for-41 for 296 yards and three touchdowns against the New England Patriots in Week 16.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick was money in overtime and had yet another multi-touchdown game. He's a QB1 in Week 17 Super Bowl leagues against Buffalo in a win-and-you're-in scenario.

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and WRs Eric Decker (knee) and Brandon Marshall (ankle) all practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 24.

Footballguys view: It's nut up or shut up time for the Jets offense. Fitzpatrick has QB1/QB2 upside, while Marshall is a borderline WR1/WR2 and Decker has very good WR2 potential. The Patriots are always a scary matchup for the Jets, but this team has been playing its best offense in years so this looks to be different.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick probable    Fri Dec 18, 12:19 PM

Jets | Three Jets fully practice    Thu Dec 17, 04:23 PM

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (knee), QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and WR Brandon Marshall (ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Dec. 17.

Footballguys view: "All three are good starts this week" is not something anyone thought we'd be typing about the Jets passing offense even as recently as three weeks ago. However, Fitzpatrick is a solid QB1 against Dallas this week, Marshall is a nice WR1 play and Decker is a great WR2 with WR1 upside. The Jets offense is legitimately good for fantasy and NFL purposes.

Jets | Gang Green loses sixth-round pick    Thu Dec 17, 11:16 AM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has played in 70% of the team's snaps this season, which forces the team to send a sixth-round draft pick to the Houston Texans to complete the trade for him, sources said.

Footballguys view: Given how well he is playing, they'll take it. Fitz could put up QB1 numbers this Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys, so you should feel confident in starting him as well as Brandon Marshall (WR1) and Eric Decker (WR1/2).

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick would love to return    Tue Dec 15, 10:19 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, a free-agent at season's end, said Tuesday, Dec. 15, that he would be happy to return to the team in 2016, responding to overtures from head coach Todd Bowles and WR Brandon Marshall. 'Yeah, I'd love to be back,' Fitzpatrick said.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick will be a free agent, but his fit with this offense and personnel has been too good to make it only a one-year term.

Jets | Coach hopes Ryan Fitzpatrick re-signs    Mon Dec 14, 06:16 PM

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said he hopes that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick re-signs with the team this offseason.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick stays hot    Sun Dec 13, 08:36 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 21 of 36 passes for 263 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 23 yards in a 30-8 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 14.

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (knee), QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and WR Brandon Marshall (ribs, ankle) all practiced in full the entire week and are probable again the Tennessee Titans in Week 14.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick takes part in practice    Thu Dec 10, 06:07 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 10.

Footballguys view: Shockingly, Ryan Fitzpatrick has had two straight games without a late-game, drive killing interception and is coming off a 390 yard, two-touchdown game against the New York Giants. He should be good for some big numbers again this weekend and is worth a start as a QB1. His price in daily fantasy makes him almost too good to resist as well.

New York Jets WR Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 36 of his 50 pass attempts for 390 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 13 game aginst the New York Giants. He also ran five times for 22 yards.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick has accounted for at least two scores in every game he has finished but one, the blowout win over Miami when Chris Ivory had a career high in rushing yards. He'll be a great start next week against the Tennessee defense that Blake Bortles and Allen Robinson just lit up.

Jets | Eric Decker, Ryan Fitzpatrick practice    Thu Dec 3, 02:47 PM

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (knee) and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) both practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 3.

Footballguys view: Decker and Brandon Marshall are having tremendous seasons, especially considering their quarterback situation isn't ideal. Marshall is a WR1/WR2 this week while Decker is a rock solid WR2 with upside. Fitzpatrick is actually a decent QB2 start this weekend, as the Giants secondary has a lot of issues.

Jets | Eric Decker, Ryan Fitzpatrick fully practice    Wed Dec 2, 05:11 PM

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (knee) and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Dec. 2.

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 22 of 37 passes for 277 yards and four touchdowns in a 38-20 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 12.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick practices    Thu Nov 26, 01:15 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (hand) practiced fully Thursday, Nov. 26.

Footballguys view: Man if Ryan Fitzpatrick only had a better long ball. He could have had several huge plays last week if he had had more arm strength or better accuracy, or if rookie Devin Smith hadn't had a brutal drop. He's a limited, though decent, QB2 play this weekend against the Dolphins.

Jets | Eric Decker, Ryan Fitzpatrick practice    Wed Nov 25, 05:44 PM

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (knee) and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) were both full participants in practice Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Footballguys view: A good sign for both in Week 12. We have Decker as a WR2 with upside, while Fitzpatrick is only a QB to consider starting in 2QB/QB-flex leagues against the Dolphins.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick will start     Mon Nov 23, 03:43 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain the starter in Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: The team needs to get back on the winning track, and Fitzpatrick is still going to be their leader. If Fitzpatrick struggles and the team can't win going forward, then perhaps we'd see Geno Smith inserted as the starter.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bilal Powell probable    Fri Nov 20, 04:40 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and RB Bilal Powell (ankle) both practiced in full Friday, Nov. 20, and are probable for Week 11 against the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: Powell is back as a passing down back and back up to Chris Ivory. It's unclear whether he or Stevan Ridley would get more work if Ivory goes down.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick will start    Thu Nov 19, 01:27 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 19, and he'll start in Week 11, barring a setback.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick is just a decent QB2 play with limited upside since he has no deep ball. He has to get to the red zone to score and when the Jets get there, they like to run.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick struggles deep    Thu Nov 19, 12:44 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) is 4-for-26 on passes traveling at least 25 yards in the air, which is the worst (15.4%) percentage in the NFL.

Footballguys view: This is nothing shocking, especially if you've watched him this season at all. It's part of why rookie Devin Smith is nonexistent in the game plan--Fitzpatrick throws so short, many balls to Smith are almost picked off. With the weapons he has for the short game though, Fitzpatrick is a solid QB2, though with limited upside.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick says he's starting    Wed Nov 18, 03:34 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) said he will start against the Houston Texans in Week 11.

Footballguys view: The Texans defense is riding into the week with some momentum after beating the Bengals on Monday night. It's a boost for the Jets to have Fitzpatrick in, but we may have to adjust our low expectations for the Texans defense after the way they played in Week 10.

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) didn't practice Monday, Nov. 16, and stayed home three days after having surgery on his left thumb. Head coach Todd Bowles said he's 'hopeful' that Fitzpatrick can practice Wednesday, Nov. 18, and 'hopeful' he will play in Week 11 against the Houston Texans.

Footballguys view: Bowles isn't sure if Fitzpatrick will start yet, as he wants to see how he looks in practice taking snaps. There's a chance that Fitzpatrick doesn't practice until Friday, Nov. 20, and still starts this weekend.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick excelling in red zone    Thu Nov 12, 05:39 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has thrown 11 touchdowns to just one interception in the red zone this season. He's tied with Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota for the second-most touchdowns without an interception in the red zone.

Footballguys view: We still see him as no more than a QB3 Thursday night against a solid Bills defense. And while he's not messing up in the red zone, he's still got seven interceptions compared to 13 touchdowns.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick will have surgery    Thu Nov 12, 11:32 AM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) will have surgery Friday, Nov. 13, after the team's Week 10 game Thursday, Nov. 12. He's likely to miss some practice time next week, but he's not expected to miss any games.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick is generally no more than a QB3, with a little low-end QB2 upside and the same is true for Thursday night. We're a little leery of a quarterback playing with stitches in one hand but if he played last week with a messed up paw and does OK Thursday with the same issue, he'll probably be OK.

New York Jets WRs Eric Decker (knee) and Brandon Marshall (ankle, toe), QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) participated fully in practice Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Footballguys view: It's a short week for the Jets as they play against the Bills on Thursday night. It's a good sign for the availability of Decker, Marshall and Ivory if they're already fully practicing this week. Start them as you normally would in Week 10.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick could have surgery soon    Mon Nov 9, 05:24 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) could have surgery but 'may not be out' for the following game against the Houston Texans, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Footballguys view: The Jets play on Thursday night, so Fitzpatrick would have 10 days to rest before playing against the Texans in Week 11. Reports indicate this injury could take three months to fully recover from. Fitzpatrick should be able to play through this recovery with a brace similar to the one he wore in Week 9 against the Jaguars.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick could have surgery    Mon Nov 9, 10:03 AM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) is considering surgery on his left thumb after the Week 10 game against the Buffalo Bills Thursday, Nov. 12. Fitzpatrick could play after the operation if the team immobilizes the thumb like they did in Week 9, according to Dr. Michael Hausman. Hausman said Fitzpatrick could run the risk of having the torn ligament shrivel and shrink if he waits until after the season for surgery, which would require a more-complex tendon graft to be done to re-attach it to the bone.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick proved that he could play with this thumb injury on Sunday. The team is going to be cautious with him, but at the same time they don't seem to want to play backup Geno Smith.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick won't be limited    Thu Nov 5, 05:23 PM

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) wore a protective glove on his left hand during practice Thursday, Nov. 5, and he will wear it again in Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Offensive coordinator Chan Gailey doesn't think Fitzpatrick will have major issues, so the team doesn't anticipate changing the game plan. Fitzpatrick will be able to take snaps under center and execute handoffs with his left hand.

Footballguys view: Taking snaps under center and the handoffs were the biggest obstacle. We don't feel comfortable that he won't get his hand jacked up again and leave the game, and he could be without Eric Decker. Overall we see him as a low-end QB2 option and would look elsewhere if possible.
