Dolphins | Another start for Ryan Fitzpatrick?    Tue Aug 13, 12:53 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick could start a second straight preseason game Friday, Aug. 16, when the Dolphins visit the Buccaneers, head coach Brian Flores said Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick is ahead of Josh Rosen in the competition for the starting job with the Dolphins. We have a feeling no matter who begins the season as the starter, both quarterbacks should play at some point in the 2019 season.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick working with ones    Tue Aug 6, 09:28 AM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will likely play with the first-team offense Thursday, Aug. 8, in the first preseason game, according to head coach Brian Flores. QB Josh Rosen is slated for the second-team, but Flores said that could change.

Footballguys view: This quarterback battle is wide open and trending towards Rosen, but preseason games will decide it. Just as important as the identity of the winner is noting which receiver have the best chemistry with the winner.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick has early edge    Tue Jul 30, 01:52 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has the early edge over Josh Rosen in the battle to start at quarterback, head coach Brian Flores said Tuesday, July 30. 'It's pretty clear to me that Ryan Fitzpatrick is leading the way,' Flores said. 'He's done that in a lot of areas, from leadership to production on the field to the meeting rooms to the walk-throughs. This is an ongoing competition, but right now he's leading the way.'

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick can support multiple fantasy relevant receivers with his aggressive approach, so this is good news for Kenny Stills, Albert Wilson, and DeVante Parker. Fitzpatrick could even be a viable DFS GPP play in the right matchup.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick in line to start?    Sat Jul 6, 03:17 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick showed impressive leadership skills during offseason workouts and was clearly the better quarterback during practice, according to one Dolphins player.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Fitzpatrick has much more experience than second-year pro Josh Rosen. We think Fitzpatrick begins the season as the starter, but just like it always happens with him, he could struggle and get pulled later in the season.

Dolphins | Man coverage no match for Ryan Fitzpatrick     Thu Jul 4, 02:38 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick - then with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - recorded a passer rating of 108.3 against man coverage in 2018 - the second-best mark in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick has had positive flashes in nearly every stop of his pro career. Then, his game will go in the tank. He's the best quarterback option for the Dolphins right now and should open the season as the starter. If (when?) he struggles, the Dolphins could give the reins over to second-year pro (and former first-round pick) Josh Rosen.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick has early lead in QB derby?    Fri May 24, 03:22 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has been 'the best of the quarterbacks' in organized team activities so far, according to an unidentified player who spoke to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald recently. However, Josh Rosen has also reportedly 'played well.'

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick is the seasoned veteran with the dad bod...of course he should be the early leader. We also know the wily veteran is wildly inconsistent, so Rosen is going to start at some point this season even if Fitzpatrick wins the starting job in training camp.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick working with starters    Wed May 15, 09:59 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick took reps with the first-team offense during OTAs Tuesday, May 14.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Fitzpatrick is the seasoned veteran while his main competition, Josh Rosen, is a second-year player coming from another system. Rosen should get the chance to start at some point in 2019. We'll see if and how long Fitzpatrick can hold him off from the top spot on the depth chart.

Dolphins | Coach high on Ryan Fitzpatrick    Sun Mar 31, 12:07 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has a big believer in head coach Brian Flores. 'He brings leadership, he brings intelligence, he brings toughness,' Flores recently told SiriusXM NFL Radio. 'We've had a couple really good talks. Obviously, I coached against him (when Flores was a defensive assistant with the New England Patriots) and I just think he's a really good player. I'm looking forward to watching him play. I think his best days are ahead.'

Footballguys view: Flores is already good at this coach-speak thing. Fitzpatrick's best days are not ahead of him and he's not a great option as a starter for the Dolphins...but he might be what they go with all season in 2019. The team might be better off waiting for a much better QB class in 2020.

Dolphins | Ryan Fitzpatrick signs with Miami    Sun Mar 17, 02:55 PM

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buccaneers) on Sunday, March 17, signed with the Miami Dolphins. Terms of the deal were not immediately available.

Footballguys view: The tanking is official! The Dolphins are looking for the 2020 NFL draft to find their franchise quarterback as that's a much better class than the one coming into the pros this year. Fitzpatrick is the perfect placeholder quarterback for the Dolphins as their franchise quarterback of the future is not yet on the roster.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick not expected back    Wed Feb 27, 01:01 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is unlikely to return to the team in 2019 because of his success last season, according to Pewter Report's Scott Reynolds, who adds new head coach Bruce Arians doesn't want Jameis Winston 'looking over his shoulder. Reynolds also reports Arians hopes to avoid 'any potential division in the locker room' as the franchise attempts to find out if Winston is worthy of a long-term contract extension.

Footballguys view: Arians is going to give Winston an opportunity to win a long-term contract with the Bucs. Winston is playing on his fifth-year option in 2019, and apparently Arians doesn't feel like having Fitzpatrick around as a potential distraction.

Packers | Backup QB on Green Bay's FA want list?    Mon Feb 11, 01:33 AM

The Green Bay Packers may look to sign a veteran in free agency to play behind QB Aaron Rodgers, in the opinion of Packers Wire's Zach Kruse, who lists QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buccaneers), Matt Schaub (Falcons), Robert Griffin III (Redskins), Sean Mannion (Rams) and Austin Davis (Titans) as possible fits; everyone on the list except Fitzpatrick previously played for head coach Matt LaFleur earlier in their careers.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston shines in relief    Sun Nov 18, 08:13 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston replaced QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in the Week 11 game against the New York Giants and completed 12 of his 16 passes for 199 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 38-35 loss.

Footballguys view: "Tampa Quarterback" had another strong game, and it should be Winston's job going into a matchup against the 49ers. With OJ Howard banged up, Cameron Brate is better situated to rekindle the chemistry between the two of them.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick benched in third quarter    Sun Nov 18, 02:55 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was benched in the third quarter of the Week 11 game Sunday, Nov. 18, after throwing his third interception of the contest. He was replaced by Jameis Winston.

Footballguys view: Fitzmagic VII the sequel is over. The Bucs have had to bench two different quarterbacks this year. Maybe we'll see Ryan Griffin before the end of the season. Winston will be a hot waiver wire pickup this week, but his leash is also short.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick to start again in Week 11    Mon Nov 12, 02:37 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain the starting quarterback in Week 11, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

Footballguys view: This decision may come down to one thing; money. The Buccaneers don't want to risk an injury to Jameis Winston if he's back in the starting lineup. His 2019 fifth-year option is guaranteed only for injury, so they'd be on the hook for around $20 million if Winston was banged up heading into next year. We expect Fitzpatrick to remain the starter unless he's absolutely awful.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick tosses four TDs    Sun Nov 4, 05:57 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 24-of-40 passes for 243 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers. He also ran for 23 yards.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick started slow, but eventually got the Bucs within a score in the second half. There's no reason he would lose his job going into a matchup against a Washington defense that didn't look nearly as good as its ranking today against Atlanta.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick back under center    Mon Oct 29, 02:33 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has been named the starting quarterback Monday, Oct. 29.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick can go off in any given game, and that's why he's a QB1 consideration for Fantasy GMs. He fits what the Bucs want to do better than Jameis Winston and certainly has stronger chemistry with DeSean Jackson. Fitzpatrick is as inconsistent as the day is long, so this 'magic' ride might not last but he's back as the starter for now. Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter says this team is taking it 'week-by-week' with the quarterback.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick takes over in Week 8    Sun Oct 28, 06:27 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick came off the bench for the mistake-prone QB Jameis Winston, completing 11-of-15 passes for 194 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick may or may not start against the Panthers next week, but it feels inevitable that he will start at some point. He has shown that he can put up top-end QB1 numbers, so he should be picked up in most leagues while we wait for this to resolve itself.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston benched    Sun Oct 28, 03:27 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston was benched during the Week 8 game and has been replaced by QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston reinstalled as starter    Mon Oct 1, 02:42 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston will replace Ryan Fitzpatrick and start at quarterback in Week 6 versus the Atlanta Falcons following the team's Week 5 bye, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

Footballguys view: Fitzmagic is over and the team goes back to Winston. His future with the team is up in the air, and he could turn things around with strong performances from here on out. We know he's going to use WR Mike Evans and Winston loves throwing to TE Cameron Brate. However, he did have a problem connecting with WR DeSean Jackson last year. We'll see if Winston learned anything from the way Fitzpatrick was able to connect with the speedy veteran.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick benched    Sun Sep 30, 04:34 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 9-for-18 for 126 yards and one interception against the Chicago Bears in Week 4 before he was benched for QB Jameis Winston.

Footballguys view: Fitzmagic the 2018 version is over, but we and the record books will always remember his first three starts this year. He'll go back to being a back up, but this might not be the last chapter of a career that refuses to go quietly.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick will respect QB decision    Thu Sep 27, 12:08 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said Thursday, Sept. 27, that he'll stand by any decision head coach Dirk Koetter makes in regard to the team's starting quarterback situation. 'I have a lot of pride, but I'm a team guy and whatever Dirk decides to do, I will respect it because I respect him.'

Footballguys view: It sounds like Fitzpatrick will start this week in Chicago and then the team will re-evaluate the situation during their bye week. Fitzpatrick is a boom/bust play this week in the toughest matchup he has had all year, and that could potentially contribute to Jameis Winston starting in Week 6 if Fitzpatrick struggles with pressure like he did in the first half against the Steelers on Monday night.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) practiced in full Saturday, Sept. 22 and he has been removed from the injury report for Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Footballguys view: After two weeks of lighting up the league, Fitzpatrick is ready to make it three in a row in prime time. The Buccaneers are at home to play against the Steelers in Week 3. Fitzpatrick is a QB1 for fantasy GMs with the chance to be the no1 fantasy quarterback this week.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has yet to be given any public assurances he will serve as the starting quarterback after Jameis Winston returns from his three-week suspension in Week 4, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 21-for-28 for 417 yards and four touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints in Week 1. He also rushed for 36 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick was the fantasy shocker of Week 1. He may give weight to general manager Jason Licht's comments about not committing to Jameis Winston when he returns in Week 4. The Saints defense was a disaster, but the Eagles defense won't give Fitzpatrick anything easy next week.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick still set to start    Mon Aug 20, 11:23 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is still in line to start in the team's Week 1 opener in place of the suspended Jameis Winston even though fellow QB Ryan W. Griffin has had a strong preseason, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

Footballguys view: Griffin is a big-bodied pocket passer we've been monitoring in super deep dynasty leagues. It's great to see him developing well, but the team is going to go with the seasoned veteran while starter Jameis Winston is suspended.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick receives starting nod    Thu Aug 9, 04:08 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starting quarterback for the first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: We expect to see Jameis Winston quite a bit here as well. Fitzpatrick has a knack for being in the right place at the right time for starting jobs. He won't keep this one when Winston comes back from suspension, though and we would avoid him in fantasy anyway. Fitzpatrick has more often than not been average or below as both an NFL and fantasy quarterback.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick likely to start    Thu Jul 26, 11:28 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to start Week 1, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick must have a trained black cat or a magic ladder which appears over quarterbacks around him because it's amazing how often a mediocre quarterback like him can continue to end up with starting jobs. He might not really need one though for Jameis Winston who appears to be his own worst enemy and is suspended three games to start the year. Just because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are stuck with Fitzpatrick doesn't mean you have to be though, and we would recommend staying well clear of Fitzpatrick. We're not high on Winston either, and he's no more than a QB3 this year, while Fitzpatrick doesn't even rate that high.

Buccaneers | Ryan Griffin could start    Fri Jun 22, 09:58 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan W. Griffin has a chance in training camp to pass QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on the depth chart. QB Jameis Winston is expected to miss the first three games, and Griffin could start.

Footballguys view: Griffin was developing as the team's #3 quarterback behind Winston and Mike Glennon in 2015 and 2016, but ended up on injured reserve to start the season last year and was activated to back up Ryan Fitzpatrick when Winston got hurt. While Fitzpatrick is one of most experienced backups in the league, the Bucs should give Griffin a chance to unseat him. If he does, it shouldn't be considered a big downgrade for Tampa skill players in the weeks Winston will miss.

Buccaneers | Ryan Fitzpatrick not ready to retire    Mon Jan 29, 02:32 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said he is not considering retirement and wants to play in 2018.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick led the Bucs to a 2-1 record in his starts and he is still more than good enough to be a backup in the NFL. He is even one of the better backups when it comes to preserving fantasy value in a passing game because of his aggressive nature. He'll make a Week 1 roster if he wants to be on one.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick made the offense functional after Desmond Trufant went out but didn't get a good piece of the production for fantasy because Peyton Barber finished the two touchdown drives. Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 17-for-34 for 187 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the New York Jets in Week 10.

Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick was trying to safer with the football in the low scoring game, but wasn't very effective. His bye week coverage/2QB/Superflex value was in part based on an assumption of a poor Bucs defense getting him into higher scoring games. Next week against Miami has a wide range of outcomes for Fitzpatrick, but his arrow is pointing down even though Jameis Winston could be out for longer than the original "at least two weeks".
