Titans | Ryan Fitzpatrick embracing backup role Mon Mar 25, 10:29 PM
Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said he is embracing the backup role with the team. 'I wanted to find a nice role for me to come in and more than likely help a young guy,' Fitzpatrick said. 'I thought that would be something that was important to look for and for me a great opportunity to come in. For me, (it's) a great opportunity to come in and help Jake. I don't know Jake at all, but I want to be there for him and be ready to play if anything happens.'
| Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick has bounced around the league and he knows the deal. At this time he's not seen as a starter so he must serve as a veteran backup and wait for an opportunity. Locker has durability issues so there's a good chance Fitzpatrick will see a handful of starts this year. |

Titans | Jake Locker's job safe Wed Mar 20, 09:35 AM
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said QB Jake Locker will enter 2013 as the starting quarterback, even after the addition of QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Munchak wants Fitzpatrick to push Locker, but believes the competition will make Locker a better player. 'I think (Fitzpatrick) understands his role,' Muchak said. 'It's Jake's team. It's Jake's time. Jake's going to be our guy. We made that decision last year after training camp. Ryan has been in this situation before ... He's going to compete with (Locker) and I think he'll help him a lot throughout the week. It will be another great mentor for him. And we feel he can win if he has to play. That's how we felt with Matt Hasselbeck also.'
| Footballguys view: The team hopes Locker can be a true franchise QB. Injuries and inconsistencies have been a problem for Locker during his young pro career. We'll see if he can get on track this year. Many think this is a make or break season for Locker. |

The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Bills) on a two-year contract Monday, March 18. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Bills | Ryan Fitzpatrick released Tue Mar 12, 04:22 PM
Updating a previous report, the Buffalo Bills have released QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.
| Footballguys view: The Bills have lost faith in Fitzpatrick and decided to let him go despite it coming with a $10MM cap hit. They'll address the position in the 2013 NFL Draft and may select a QB with a top 10 pick. Fitzpatrick should be able to latch on as a backup QB somewhere else. |

Bills | Will have competition at QB Fri Feb 15, 01:05 PM
Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone said QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tarvaris Jackson will compete for the starting quarterback position during offseason workouts and training camp.
| Footballguys view: The choice between Fitzpatrick and Jackson is like the choice between airline food and hospital food. Both would get you by, but neither is an exciting option. Don't be surprised if the Bills add a QB to the mix via the 2013 NFL Draft. |

Bills | May ask Ryan Fitzpatrick to restructure deal Wed Feb 13, 04:58 PM
The Buffalo Bills may ask QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to restructure his contract in order to reduce his $10.45 million salary cap figure for next season. If the team decides to release Fitzpatrick before he is to receive his $3 million roster bonus, he would still count $10 million against the salary cap because of bonus money that has already been paid to him.
| Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick just isn't worth starter money, or really a starter job. He gets the most out of his very limited tools, but mistakes and inability to throw deep with accuracy has made Fitzpatrick a very beatable quarterback. |

Bills | Teammate thinks competition would help Ryan Fitzpatrick Mon Feb 4, 05:05 PM
Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson said he believes competition at the quarterback position would do nothing but help QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.
| Footballguys view: The Bills are looking for a true franchise QB and until they find one they'll stick with Fitzpatrick as a starting option. We think they'll be looking to select a QB with a premium pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Guys like Ryan Nassib (Syracuse), Matt Barkley (USC), or Mike Glennon (North Carolina State) could be options for them in the first-round. |

Bills | Stevie Johnson wants to see Ryan Fitzpatrick pushed Tue Jan 22, 01:27 PM
Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson wants to see the team bring in another quarterback to give QB Ryan Fitzpatrick some serious competition for the starting job. 'Because competition brings out the best in us,' Johnson said. 'If we went out and got another quarterback, who knows what'll happen? Fitz may still win, or the other guy my win. Let it happen like that.' However, Johnson is still confident the team can win with Fitzpatrick at quarterback. Fitzpatrick was ranked 32nd out of 33 quarterbacks this year with a 27.5 completion percentage on passes that traveled at least 20 yards.
| Footballguys view: That could certainly happen this year. The Bills are rumored to be interested in QB Ryan Nassib (Syracuse) in the 2013 NFL Draft. |

Bills | Mike Glennon could be an option Wed Dec 26, 12:38 PM
The Buffalo Bills could decide to take North Carolina State QB Mike Glennon in the first round of next year's NFL Draft. Glennon has been personally scouted by general manager Buddy Nix, and the Bills are expected to add a quarterback through the draft or free agency, even if they hang on to QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.
| Footballguys view: Glennon is currently seen as a second-round pick. This season, Glennon led the ACC in passing yards per game (304.0). Glennon also became the first NC State QB to throw for 30 or more touchdowns in two different seasons. He was highly recruited out of high school but began his collegiate career as a backup behind current Seahawks starting QB Russell Wilson. Glennon has ideal size for the NFL but needs to work on his footwork in order to improve his accuracy and escapability. |

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Week 17 because he gives the team the best chance to win. Gailey said QBs Tyler Thigpen and Tarvaris Jackson will not see playing time during the game.
| Footballguys view: This could be the final game in the Fitzpatrick (and Gailey) era. We expect the team to look for an upgrade at the QB position this offseason. They should be in position to draft a QB in the first-round like Matt Barkley (USC). |

Bills | Ryan Fitzpatrick likely done Mon Dec 24, 09:49 AM
Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is unlikely to return to the team in 2013. Fitzpatrick has received $21 million of the six-year, $62 million contract he signed in October 2011, and it will not cost the Bills any more to cut him than to keep him on the team. Fitzpatrick is due a $3 million roster bonus in March. If he gets cut before that bonus is paid, then he will count $10 million against the team's salary cap in 2013. If Fitzpatrick is on the roster, his cap number for 2013 will be $10.45 million. Fitzpatrick's base salaries going forward are $4.25 million in 2013, $4.35 million in 2014, $7.2 million in 2015, $8.75 million in 2016 and $9.45 million in 2017.
| Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Bills have been featuring (and paying) a QB who has backup level talent. Fitzpatrick is too often careless with the football and it has cost the team dearly. Over the last two years only Jets QB Mark Sanchez has more turnovers than Fitzpatrick. The Bills could decide to draft a QB like Geno Smith (West Virginia) or Matt Barkley (USC) in the first-round of the 2013 NFL Draft. |

Bills | Could save space if Ryan Fitzpatrick released Sat Dec 22, 01:48 PM
The Buffalo Bills could save $4.45 million in salary cap space if they decide to release QB Ryan Fitzpatrick before the second day of the 2013 NFL year which comes in March. The team is scheduled to pay a $3 million roster bonus to Ryan Fitzpatrick on that date and his salary cap number would jump to $10.45 million if he is paid the bonus.
| Footballguys view: It's clear the team needs an upgrade at the QB position. Fitzpatrick is a backup caliber QB who has had 14 multi-interception days in the last 37 games. In the first-round of the 2013 NFL Draft the Bills may consider a QB like Matt Barkley (USC). |

Bills | GM backing off comments about QB Fri Dec 7, 12:54 PM
Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix backed off some of his earlier comments saying the team would focus on drafting a quarterback of the future, suggesting that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick wasn't their man. Nix said previously that the team would draft another quarterback in the first round of next year's draft. 'That's not necessarily true. I mean, we're going to always stay with the integrity of the (draft) board. But we're going to try to find a quarterback. If one's there, and he's rated at the right spot, we're going to take him whenever that is.'

Bills | Ryan Fitzpatrick accounts for three TDs Sun Dec 2, 05:07 PM
Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 9-for-17 for 112 yards and two touchdowns against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13. He also rushed for 18 yards and one touchdown on five carries in the game.
| Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick hooked up on TJ Graham on an early deep ball and finished the drive with a QB sneak, but otherwise the offensive heavy lifting was done by the running backs. He can be dropped as long as you have a viable backup quarterback. |

Bills | Ryan Fitzpatrick has vote of confidence from coach Thu Nov 29, 02:22 PM
Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said he believes QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is the future for the team at quarterback. 'I think we've always said we're looking to develop a quarterback for the future, but I don't think it's the near future,' said Gailey. 'I think we're talking about Fitz being the guy for us, and as we continue to get better, I think he's going to be the guy. I see us being able to be very productive as an offense with Fitz at quarterback. I've always said that, and I believe that.'
| Footballguys view: It's a nice sentiment for coach Gailey to have, but the team just needs an upgrade this offseason. They should be in position to select a QB in the 2013 NFL Draft. In the first-round they may take a look at a guys like Matt Barkley from USC or Tyler Bray (provided he declares for the draft) from Tennessee. |

Bills | HC will not relinquish playcalling duties Mon Nov 26, 09:23 AM
Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey will continue to handle playcalling duties despite WR Stevie Johnson lobbying for QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to have a bigger role. Gailey said Fitzpatrick has some feedback on calls to a degree, but that role is not about to expand. 'Sometimes he does. Sometimes he doesn't,' Gailey said. 'He can go out there and change some things. Depends on the situation and the play and what we are trying to do. And the thing that we are trying to do, sometimes, is run the football - we don't want to change it to a pass. Sometimes we change out of passes to runs, sometimes we change out of runs to passes, depends on what we get.' When asked why Fitzpatrick wouldn't be allowed to alter any play he chooses on the field, Gailey cited pass protection schemes and the need to monitor the workload of certain players like RB C.J. Spiller. 'There is a lot more to it than just seeing what they do and just callin' a play, there is a bigger picture here ... You are setting up the next play for the next play,' Gailey said. 'Fitz is good, he is smart, he really is, he is extremely smart and can make adjustments on the field ... but we're doing things today, just like we did them last year and the year before that.'

Bills | Stevie Johnson wants QB to call more plays Mon Nov 26, 08:45 AM
The Buffalo Bills have scored zero or one offensive touchdown in four of their last seven games, and WR Stevie Johnson believes an answer could be allowing QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to call more plays. Johsnon credited Fitzpatrick for calling audibles to more aggressive plays in Week 12. 'How I see it, I think we need to let our quarterback call these plays. He's out there on the field. He sees the adjustments that need to be done. I think we just need to let him make adjustments on the go. I think that's the way we can move the ball better,' Johnson said. 'He did it a little bit in the game, and we moved the ball ... He was hitting C.J. (Spiller), getting his run plays, doing the pass plays, and I just think we should do it more often.'

Bills | Stevie Johnson critical of play call Wed Nov 14, 07:25 AM
Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson second-guessed why a more experienced wide receiver wasn't targeted on a Week 10 play that ended with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing an interception into the end zone to seal a 37-31 loss. Johnson also came to WR T.J. Graham's defense, saying the rookie receiver shouldn't be faulted for running the wrong route because he had never attempted it in practice. 'I don't think it was the wrong play. But just the whole thing leading up to it,' Johnson said, noting that he, WR Donald Jones and TE Scott Chandler were more familiar at running the route. 'We had people in positions where maybe they shouldn't have been. So who knows what would've happened if it was Donald, me or Scott there. So it's no blame on T.J. at all, because he's never run that route in practice or in a game.'

Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 27-for-40 for 337 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Week 10 against New England Patriots.
| Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick was confident and led the Bills offense to hanging blow-for-blow with the potent Patriots offense. He was able to make safe throws all day and got great efforts from Scott Chandler and Donald Jones. He did throw the game ending interception, but Fitzpatrick overall played one of his best games of the year. Andrew Luck gets to move the ball on the Patriots next week. |

Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said following Week 9 the offense has to find a way to get RB C.J. Spiller more involved. Spiller had just six carries for 39 yards, in addition to five receptions for 63 yards in the game. 'I mean the story of the day for us is we've got to get C.J. more touches,' Fitzpatrick said. 'I think everybody knows that and we've got to find ways to do that. But really the story for us was just our inability to score touchdowns.'
| Footballguys view: Spiller has big play ability and is a threat every time he touches the ball. Getting him more involved is a must for the Bills. |

Bills | GM hints QB isn't franchise player Fri Nov 2, 10:57 AM
Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix hinted that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick isn't a franchise quarterback. 'Listen, we have said from day one, that we want to draft a good young quarterback' Nix said. 'I don't want to leave here without a franchise guy for the future in place. I have not said that before but I'm saying it now because its fact.'
| Footballguys view: Nothing new here, most everyone around the league knows that Fitzpatrick is merely a caretaker QB - not a franchise QB. Good thing for Buffalo there's a bumper crop of potential franchise QBs coming out in the 2013 NFL Draft. There could be as many as four or five first-round QBs next year, with only one being a junior (Tyler Bray - Tennessee). It's a safe bet to believe Buffalo will select a QB with a premium pick. |

Bills | Ryan Fitzpatrick throws three TDs Sun Oct 21, 05:23 PM
Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 27-for-35 for 225 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Week 7 against the Tennessee Titans.
| Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick wasn't as good as his numbers suggest, but he did execute the game plan to keep the ball in the hands of the running backs and not take many risks downfield. Despite his good fantasy line, Fitzpatrick lost this game for the Bills with a poor read and throw on a late third down interception that gave the Titans new life. He's a borderline backup quality fantasy quarterback going into his bye. |

Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 18 of his 32 pass attempts for 153 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals. He also carried three times for five yards.
| Footballguys view: The Bills fed their running back duo all day, and they won a road game against a tough opponent in the process. Look for Fitzpatrick to take a back seat to the running backs against the Titans next week. |
Bills | Coach still confident in Ryan Fitzpatrick Tue Oct 9, 02:04 PM
Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said he still has confidence in QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and is not planning on making a quarterback change. "Not right now, no," Gailey said when asked about a quarterback change.
| Footballguys view: The Bills are likely to ride out the bad streak with Fitzpatrick here. Backup Tyler Thigpen has a lot of experience working under Chan Gailey but is not an exciting option. We feel it would take a complete collapse from Fitpatrick before we saw Thigpen in the lineup. |

In three losses, he has seven touchdowns, eight interceptions and a 68.7 passer rating.

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is tied for second in the NFL with seven interception. The team has already lost four fumbles, just one off their total of five for the entire 2011 campaign.
| Footballguys view: Since the start of the 2011 season no other QB has turned the ball over more than Fitzpatrick. It all starts with him. If he can protect the ball better the Bills have a better chance of getting (and staying) on the winning track. |

Bills | Ryan Fitzpatrick has been accurate this offseason Sat Jun 30, 10:35 AM

He's making sure that I'm getting the most out of everything. You see it in the numbers now and hopefully it translates to one the field as well.'
| Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick makes an interesting QBBC fantasy pick this year. The Bills should run more four- and five-WR sets than anyone else in the league, and Fitzpatrick could make plays as a spot fantasy starter. You can add him at QB19 near the mid-12th round. |

| Footballguys view: Fitzpatrick played through a rib injury in the last half of the 2011 season, and it clearly altered his play. If he can stay healthy then Fitzpatrick could perform like a top 20 fantasy QB. |
