Bengals | Ryan Finley traded to Texans Fri Mar 19, 01:56 PM
QB Ryan Finley on Friday, March 19, was traded by the Cincinnati Bengals to the Houston Texans. In exchange, the Bengals will move up an approximate spots late in the 2021 draft via an exchange of undisclosed draft picks.
Footballguys view: Finley was going to be released prior to the trade. When the Bengals selected QB Joe Burrow with the no.1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, they had no need for a young developmental quarterback like Finley. |

Texans | Ryan Finley acquired in trade Fri Mar 19, 01:43 PM
QB Ryan Finley on Friday, March 19, was acquired by the Houston Texans in a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals. In return, the teams will swap undisclosed late-round picks in the 2021 draft. Finley was going to be released prior to the deal.
Footballguys view: Finley is a big-bodied pocket passer who should be seen as a developmental quarterback. The Texans have Tyrod Taylor as their starter if Deshaun Watson is traded, stays away from the team or is suspended. Finley will continue to develop but with a new team. |

Cincinnati Bengals QB Brandon Allen (knee) didn't practice Saturday, Dec. 19, and has been ruled out of the Week 15 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday, Dec. 21.
Footballguys view: Ryan Finley gets the start for the Bengals in Week 15. That means Fantasy GMs are downgrading all Bengals skill position players and upgrading the Steelers defense. |

Bengals | Ryan Finley to start Monday night Sat Dec 19, 12:27 PM
Cincinnati Bengals QB Ryan Finley will start Monday, Dec. 21, in the team's Week 15 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with Brandon Allen (knee) ruled out with a knee injury Saturday, head coach Zac Taylor announced.
Footballguys view: There was some optimism that Allen would be able to play despite the injury. That's not the case and Finley will get the nod instead. Finley is a tall, strong-armed pocket passer but his accuracy and decision making are big issues. That means Fantasy GMs should downgrade any and all Bengals skill position players they might be considering. |

Bengals | Cincy happy with current QB situation Sat May 9, 08:32 AM
The Cincinnati Bengals do not have plans to sign a veteran quarterback this offseason, according to head coach Zac Taylor. Starting quarterback Joe Burrow is 23 years old and backups Ryan Finley and Jake Dolegala are 25 and 23, respectively.
Footballguys view: Burrow is the franchise quarterback and has elite-level ability he should be able to show from day one. Sure, there are going to be some rough patches and learning curves for the rookie but he's certainly got the ability to eventually be one of the best passers in the game. Burrow is smart, more athletic than some would think and his pass-placement is uncanny with how precise he is. Behind him, Finley has a bit of starting experience and is fine as a reserve. |

Cincinnati Bengals QB Ryan Finley completed 16-of-30 passes for 167 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens while adding five runs for 22 yards in his first NFL start.
Footballguys view: Finley had a few throws to build on, but he is clearly a rookie and work in progress. He'll get an easier assignment against Oakland next week, but we will keep expectations low. |

Bengals | Ryan Finley named the starter Tue Oct 29, 01:11 PM
Cincinnati Bengals QB Ryan Finley was named the starting quarterback Tuesday, Oct. 29.
Footballguys view: The move to the rookie has been expected for some time now. Andy Dalton goes to the bench since the team isn't winning, and the Bengals get to take a look at Finley to determine whether or not he could continue to be a starter in the future. They are looking at a premium pick in the 2020 NFL draft and could be in the market for a premium passer. Finley is a big, tall, pocket passer with the arm strength to hit all throws required in the NFL. |

Bengals | Ryan Finley still struggling Fri Jun 21, 09:41 PM
Cincinnati Bengals QB Ryan Finley has struggled throughout spring practices, according to Laurel Pfahler of the Dayton Daily News, and Pfahler believes Finley has 'a long way to go' before he can be trusted to be the backup to QB Andy Dalton.
Footballguys view: Jeff Driskel wasn't a total disaster when he played last year, and it looks like he'll be the backup again this year. |

Bengals | Ryan Finley not impressing Wed Jun 5, 11:28 AM
Cincinnati Bengals QB Ryan Finley 'looks bad' in practice, in the opinion of beat writer Paul Dehner Jr. 'There's just no way around it,' Dehner writes. 'It's still early, but not so early that we can't begin to wonder what is going on.'
Footballguys view: The Bengals picked up Finley in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft. During his college career at NC State, Finley did not show well under duress. His set up time in the pocket was a bit longer than desired and he tends to wind up when throwing longer passes. Finley is a project who is nowhere near seeing the field in the pros. Looks like he could stick as the No. 3 quarterback for the Bengals behind starter Andy Dalton and backup Jeff Driskel. We're actually a bit more interested in undrafted rookie Jake Dolegala (Central Connecticut State) than we are Finley. |

Chargers | Philip Rivers helping Ryan Finley Fri Mar 1, 09:44 PM
North Carolina State QB Ryan Finley said he has been receiving advice from Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers. 'I've corresponded with him over the phone and he's been a big help to me,' Finley said.
Footballguys view: Rivers was a star for the Wolfpack during his college days and it only makes sense that he's helping out a fellow quarterback from his alma mater. Finley is a big-bodied pocket passer who is seen as a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. |

NFL | Ryan Finley impressing teams Sat Jan 26, 09:56 PM
North Carolina State QB Ryan Finley had the 'cleanest' game of any quarterback at the Senior Bowl, according to Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com, and Jeremiah said all the teams that spoke with Finley throughout the week have 'really liked him.'
Footballguys view: This still only puts Finley in third day consideration. This is not a very deep class of quarterbacks, but Finley at least fits in as a possible long-term backup in a best case scenario. He could also go very late or undrafted despite generating some hype earlier in his career. |

Redskins | Washington talks with three QB prospects Wed Jan 23, 09:42 PM
Duke QB Daniel Jones, Penn State QB Trace McSorley and North Carolina State QB Ryan Finley have met with the Washington Redskins at the Senior Bowl this week.
Footballguys view: Washington is likely to be in the market for a quarterback. Alex Smith is their starter but after a devastating injury in 2018, we may not see Smith anytime soon. His status for Week 1 is in serious doubt and we may not see him at all in 2019. Jones has been linked to Washington on #DraftTwitter and might be an option for them in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. |
