NFL | Jermichael Finley unlikely to play in 2014    Sun Sep 28, 12:25 PM

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) has received interest from some teams but likely will not play in 2014, according to sources. Finley is finalizing a $10 million disability insurance policy that likely would be paid to him in a few months if he does not play this season. Finley is still not able to pass a physical at this point.

Seahawks | Not looking at Jermichael Finley    Fri Aug 1, 03:55 AM

The Seattle Seahawks are not looking at free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers) after losing TE Anthony McCoy (Achilles) to an apparent torn Achilles tendon.

Footballguys view: The interest around the league about Finley is more exploratory than any thing. He may collect that 10 million dollar policy for the premature end of his football career yet.

NFL | Jermichael Finley to meet with doctor    Thu Jul 17, 02:07 PM

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) is scheduled to meet with doctors Thursday, July 17, to review MRI's and discuss the next step in the process. There is nothing imminent between Finley and the Green Bay Packers.

Footballguys view: Finley is trying to prove that he's healthy after a serious neck injury that cut his 2013 season short. If doctors give him the "thumbs up" we should at least a small handful of teams interested in the veteran tight end.

Giants | Jermichael Finley still a possibility    Tue Jul 15, 08:41 PM

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers) is still a possible option for the New York Giants, according Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News. Samuel said the team could consider Finely if TE Adrien Robinson and TE Larry Donnell fail to impress during the preseason.

Footballguys view: Finley is trying to prove he's healthy after a potentially career-ending neck injury he suffered last year. We could see him have to wait until after Week 1 to be signed by any team. After that time, veterans added to not have a guaranteed salary for the year.

Steelers | Showing interest in Jermichael Finley    Tue Jul 15, 01:06 PM

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers) is receiving interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers. It should be noted that the Steelers' neurosurgeon, Dr. Joseph Maroon, performed Finley's surgery in November and cleared him in May. 'Pittsburgh have showed me a couple deals, but we all know the money ain't what it's supposed to be,' said Finley, who has 223 career catches for 2,785 yards and 20 touchdowns. 'If I quit the game right now, I can take tax-free money, and that's a difficult thing that I'm going through with myself ...'

Footballguys view: The Steelers could use a weapon like Finley if he's healthy. Heath Miller isn't getting any younger, and the Steelers lack a quality move tight end behind him. Finley could come in and compete for playing time in two-tight end sets. He'll get plenty of interest on the open market when teams feel comfortable that he's healthy.

Packers | Jermichael Finley to undergo more tests    Tue Jul 15, 03:23 AM

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers) plans to undergo another round of tests Wednesday, July 16, and he will send those tests to all 32 teams in an effort to show that he is fully healthy.

Footballguys view: Finley has to show teams that he's fully healthy if he wants to find a new home. Once he does that, there should be a few teams willing to give him a one-year deal on a "prove it" contract. We believe a team like the Giants could have the most interest.

Packers | Jermichael Finley wants to return    Wed Jul 9, 03:12 PM

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) said he is feeling as good as he has during the entire process of recovering from spinal fusion surgery. Finley said he very much wants to return to the Green Bay Packers.

Footballguys view: Finley still had a locker in the Packers locker room as of mid-May, and the team doesn't really have a plan A at tight end this year. Still, their conservative medical staff might be hesitant to clear him, so we would bet on Finley landing on another team - that is if he ever plays again. He'll have late round sleeper appeal if he can wind up somewhere like New England or with the Giants.

Packers | Could still re-sign Jermichael Finley    Sun Jun 15, 05:01 PM

The Green Bay Packers could still re-sign free-agent TE Jermichael Finley.

Footballguys view: Finley has a few options out there. Teams like the Steelers, Giants, Packers and Patriots could add the veteran tight end. So long as he's healthy, Finley has the ability to be a quality move tight end.

Patriots | Could add another tight end    Mon Jun 9, 05:37 PM

The New England Patriots may still in play for free-agents TE Jermichael Finley (Packers) and TE Dustin Keller (Dolphins), even though they signed TE Kyle Auffray Monday, June 9.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. They've been looking for tight end help since Aaron Hernandez got in trouble with the law. The team wants to find a move tight end to use alongside Rob Gronkowski. Finley or Keller could fit that role, but both have injury concerns.

Steelers | Could show interest in Jermichael Finley    Sat Jun 7, 10:26 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers could show an interest in free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers) if they can sign him at the right price. However, interest is not believed to be heavy at this time, although he has been cleared to return from spinal fusion surgery.

Footballguys view: Finley is likely to get a one-year deal for a low salary from whatever team signs him this year. The fit with the Steelers is interesting as they have an aging Heath Miller as their primary tight end.

Steelers | Meet with Jermichael Finley    Wed Jun 4, 03:00 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers have met with free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck), and their team doctor cleared Finley to participate in football activities. The team's doctor performed the neck surgery on Finley.

Footballguys view: The match with the Steelers would be an interesting one. Finley is going to have to be cleared by teams medically as he tries to come back from the neck injury that knocked him out last year. He's a talented move tight end, but any deal he signs is likely to be a year long with a low base salary and a few incentives.

Raiders | Interested in Jermichael Finley    Wed Jun 4, 02:51 PM

The Oakland Raiders have expressed interest in free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers).

Footballguys view: The Raiders currently have Mychal Rivera as their top tight end. The second-year player has intriguing upside because of his ability to create mismatches against linebackers or safeties. We'll see Finley added to a roster this year, and he can contribute as a move tight end because of his athletic ability.

Redskins | Unlikely to pursue top free agent TEs    Wed Jun 4, 02:10 PM

The Washington Redskins likely will not show interest in free-agent TEs Dustin Keller (Dolphins) and Jermichael Finley (Packers) this offseason.

Footballguys view: Washington doesn't need help at the TE position so long as Jordan Reed is healthy. Before he got hurt last year, Reed looked good as a rookie. He's athletic and creates mismatches every time he's on the field.

Giants | No plans for Jermichael Finley to work out    Tue Jun 3, 02:25 AM

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers) has no plans currently to work out for the New York Giants, but sources indicate that could change in the near future.

Footballguys view: That should change in the near future. The Giants don't have an answer at tight end, and Finely would be a great fit. He's familiar with new OC Ben McAdoo from their days together in Green Bay. Eli Manning hasn't looked the same since Martellus Bennett left the team in free agency. Having a weapon like Finley would really help the veteran quarterback.

Patriots | Jermichael Finley visits    Mon Jun 2, 05:16 PM

The New England Patriots recently met with free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers), according to sources.

Footballguys view: This is an interesting fit. If Finley is signed he could work well as a move tight end alongside Rob Gronkowski. Finley has been cleared to play, and there should be more teams showing interest in him on likely a one-year deal.

Seahawks | Out of chase for Jermichael Finley    Sun Jun 1, 06:14 PM

The Seattle Seahawks are no longer pursuing free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers), according to a league source.

Footballguys view: It looks like the Seahawks are going to move forward with Zach Miller as their top tight end. Anthony McCoy is a fine blocker, and Luke Willson is an interesting move tight end to monitor in super deep dynasty leagues. The offense doesn't really feature the position anyway. Miller is a fine talent but only caught 33 passes last year (with five touchdowns), finishing as the 23rd-best fantasy tight end in 2013. We think Finley ends up in New York with the Giants.

Giants | Reach out to Jermichael Finley    Thu May 29, 07:29 PM

It is believed the New York Giants have reached out to free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers), but there has not been any visits scheduled at this point.

Footballguys view: Finley has been cleared to return. He is trying to come back from a neck injury that cut his time in Green Bay short. Finley would be an upgrade for the Giants at the position. He has experience working under new OC Ben McAdoo from their days together in Green Bay. The Giants haven't been the same at TE since Martellus Bennett moved on to the Bears in free agency.

NFL | Jermichael Finley has full clearance    Thu May 29, 12:48 PM

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) has been given full medical clearance by his doctor, according to his agent, Blake Baratz.

Footballguys view: Rumor has it he has a meeting with a mystery team. If Finley can stay healthy, he could be a useful addition to a team. One question we have: should we have pause when he was cleared by a guy (Dr. Joseph Maroon) which the book League of Denial basically names as someone who, despite knowing the dangers of concussions given his work with guys like Merril Hoge (who he told to retire because of them), downplayed research about their severity? Food for thought.

Packers | Reunion with Jermichael Finley more likely?    Wed May 14, 07:29 PM

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he considers free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers) to still be part of the team. 'In my mind, he's a Green Bay Packer, hopefully,' McCarthy said. 'He's going through a tough medical situation that we all recognize is a serious injury. My understanding is he's doing everything and beyond to get himself ready, and we'll continue to watch that.'

Footballguys view: Finley might still be weeks or even months from being cleared, but this is a good reason to make sure he is rostered in your dynasty league just in case.

Packers | Not ruling out Jermichael Finley reunion    Mon May 12, 07:05 PM

Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson is still not ruling out the possibility that the team will re-sign TE Jermichael Finley (neck), even though he has not received clearance from doctors to resume his career. Finley would also need to be cleared by team doctors before they took a chance on him.

Footballguys view: We'll see if Finley can get cleared first. Once he is medically ready to resume football activities, there should be a few teams interested in adding his services. Finley is a talented move tight end who can be a weapon down the deep middle seam.

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) is scheduled to get an X-ray on his surgically repaired neck Monday, April 27. Finley will continue to undergo X-rays every six to eight weeks until he is cleared for football activites.

Footballguys view: Finley won't get any serious offers until he's cleared. Once doctors give him the thumbs up, there should be several teams interested in the veteran tight end for the right price.

Dolphins | Could be interested in Jermichael Finley if cleared    Mon Apr 14, 03:23 PM

Updating a previous report, the Miami Dolphins have told the agent of free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) that they could be interested in signing Finley if he is cleared to play again after next surgery.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Finley is coming back from a scary neck injury, so teams will be cautious when considering him. If healthy, he could give the Dolphins another weapon in the passing game. He has experience working under Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin from their days together when Philbin was the Packers offensive coordinator.

Dolphins | Have talked to Jermichael Finley    Sun Apr 13, 06:25 PM

The Miami Dolphins have talked to free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers).

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Dolphins could use some help at the tight end position, and Finley has experience working with head coach Joe Philbin when they were both with the Packers. Finley is going to get X-Rays and an MRI on his neck in the upcoming week. When he's cleared medically, there should be a few teams interested in his services. Because of his durability concerns, Finley may have to accept a one-year, incentive-laden deal.

NFL | Jermichael Finley to have X-rays, MRI    Tue Apr 8, 06:47 PM

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) will have X-rays on his neck Thursday, April 10, and will undergo an MRI exam within two weeks. The scans will then be looked at by Dr. Joseph Maroon, the neurosurgeon who performed the spinal fusion on Finley last year. Finley hopes to share the results with interested teams if they are positive. The Green Bay Packers, Finley's former team, are one of the interested parties, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Footballguys view: Neck injuries are serious business. If Finley is cleared medically, then teams will be interested because of his athleticism and ability to create mismatches. However, even when signed by a team we're not expecting Finley to get anything more than a short-term deal because of this neck injury.

NFL | Jermichael Finley still not cleared?    Wed Mar 26, 11:43 AM

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) still isn't medically cleared to continue his playing career. Finley reportedly failed his physical with the Seattle Seahawks several weeks ago, and he's been working regularly with trainers in Minnesota and Arizona this offseason. 'He had a serious injury. I know there is a lot of excitement, based on what I've been told. I haven't seen him work out, but I guess his workouts have gone really well. He's in great shape. I know he feels good. The reality is this injury is going to take some time. We'll continue to watch it,' McCarthy said.

Packers | Decision on Jermichael Finley up to doctors    Tue Mar 25, 09:34 PM

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers) (neck) has been working out in full and there are reports he looks in tip-top shape. However, head coach Mike McCarthy said Tuesday, Jan. 25, that a decision to potentially bring him back will come down to how the team doctors feel about the risk of re-injury. 'It's great to hear that he's training and feels great and that's a big part of rehab,' McCarthy said. 'You feel good and everything, but you have to trust the information that's available to the doctors. I think you have to really be smart with those types of injuries.'

Footballguys view: Finley could still be months away from being cleared according to reports earlier this week, so it's no sure thing that he'll have any fantasy impact this year.

Footballguys view: Finley needs to first be cleared for resuming football activity. If healthy, Finley could provide the team with a good move tight end.

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) (Packers) could still be months away from signing with an NFL team. Finley visited the Seattle Seahawks and the team wants him to stay in touch after the passage of time.

There are indications that the Seattle Seahawks are considering signing free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers).

Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) will be healed in four to eight weeks and is hopeful of being cleared to play football again. According to his agent, his neurosurgeon told him that he has a 99.9 percent chance the neck fusion will fully heal.

Footballguys view: The Packers are always careful with injuries like this--for an example, see how they shut down the return of Nick Collins--but with Finley entering free agency, they don't have much say. If he's cleared someone will give the athletic but inconsistent tight end a shot.

Impending free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers)(neck) and his agent are hoping to get medical clearance in the near future to return to football activities. Agent Blake Baratz believes that clearance could come in the next four-to-eight weeks. "In some players, it takes four weeks while in others in can six months or longer," Baratz said. "In Jermichael's case because of how he has developed and (how) his initial X-Ray looked, Dr. Maroon believes sometime in the next 4-8 weeks his should fully heal."

Footballguys view: We'll see Finley move on in free agency. Some team should be willing to give him a one-year "prove it" deal if he's cleared medically.

Packers | Jermichael Finley working out    Thu Feb 6, 12:18 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (neck) is doing just fine in his rehab from spinal fusion surgery, according to his agent, Blake Baratz. 'Jermichael is doing great, is working out, running routes, catching balls, and feels no different than he did pre-injury,' Baratz said. 'His fusion has to fully heal before he is 100 percent ready for contact, but we are all anticipating that occurring in the coming weeks. Jermichael is a rare breed that creates a mismatch for defenses. Whenever you have a player that can do that he is a valuable asset.'

Footballguys view: The Packers are careful when it comes to neck injuries--just ask Nick Collins--so they'll watch this carefully before deciding whether to extend him an offer or not. Finley is very talented but not consistent enough to demand top money, though he might do that anyway.

If it doesn't work out in Green Bay for whatever reason then I believe there are a number of teams that could use a talent like Jermichael.' Footballguys view: The Giants weren't the same without Martellus Bennett in 2013. They need to address the tight end position through the draft or free agency.
