Eagles | Caron Wentz draws Brett Favre comparison    Thu Apr 28, 10:44 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz has a lot of the same characteristics, including the aggressive style, of retired QB Brett Favre, head coach Doug Pederson said Thursday, April 28.

Footballguys view: Well, we won't get carried away with the comparisons right now. We will say that he has fallen into a great situation even if he needs to start right away, as Wentz will be behind a great offensive line with a coach who can work him into the right system.

Packers | Will retire Brett Favre's jersey    Sun Aug 3, 09:21 PM

The Green Bay Packers will retire retired QB Brett Favre's jersey, but the date of the ceremony is not known at this point, according to a source. The team will also induct Favre in their Hall of Fame in 2015.

Footballguys view: It's good to see the Packers and Favre kiss and make up. He's one of the best to ever play the game, and most will remember him for his heroics in Green Bay.

Packers | Won't retire Brett Favre's jersey yet    Fri Jul 11, 11:11 AM

The Green Bay Packers will not retire former QB Brett Favre's jersey in the near future. They eventually want to, but Favre and the team worry about the negative reception he may receive at Lambeau Field. Favre may appear at a home game this year in some fashion.

Footballguys view: It will happen soon enough. Favre and the Packers have essentially made up after he moved on in free agency years ago. Nobody will ever wear no4 for the Packers again.

NFL | Brett Favre not coming out of retirement    Tue Nov 5, 02:15 PM

Updating a previous report, the agent for retired QB Brett Favre (Vikings) said that Favre is still retired.

Footballguys view: We don't need a weekly update about this. Favre seems happy in retirement coaching high school football. It would actually be news (huge news) if he said yes.

Rams | Brett Favre declines    Thu Oct 24, 08:22 AM

The St. Louis Rams contacted retired QB Brett Favre (Vikings) about coming out of retirement to play for the team, but he declined.

Footballguys view: It seems insanely lazy on the part of any GM to reach out for an aging Favre who has been out of football for some time. Yes, the talent out in the free agent market is low and there aren't a lot of teams with quality backups to trade at a reasonable price. Still, going back to the Favre Well is just a poor idea and courted disaster.

NFL | Brett Favre not returning    Sat Sep 28, 09:05 AM

Retired QB Brett Favre (Vikings) said he has no plan to return to the NFL, and that he is happy coaching high school football.

Footballguys view: Another Favre comeback would cause a media frenzy of epic proportions. The Vikings need a ton of help at the QB position as Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel are not the answer.

Broncos | Lucky seven for Peyton Manning    Fri Sep 6, 04:10 AM

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning tied an NFL record with seven touchdown passes against the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, Sept. 5. Manning becomes the sixth player to throw for that many, and the first since Joe Kapp on Sept. 28, 1969. Manning, a four-time MVP, also tied Brett Favre's NFL record with his 23rd career game with at least four TD throws, and Drew Brees' mark with his seventh career five-TD performance.

Footballguys view: The most impressive element of this performance is how easy Manning made it look. Only Drew Brees has a chance to keep up with him this year.

Vikings | Brett Favre returned for the money     Sat Jul 21, 10:35 AM

Former NFL QB Brett Favre said the reason he decided to forgo retirement in 2010 and return to the Minnesota Vikings was due to financial reasons. 'The money was too good,' Favre said. 'I hate to say it's about money, but I felt the money was a lot.' The Vikings lured Favre back for a 20th season with a contract worth upwards of $20 million.

Footballguys view: That type of money would be hard for anyone to resist. It's refreshing to hear Favre answer honestly.

Redskins | Brett Favre a fan of Robert Griffin     Sat Jun 23, 09:31 AM

Retired NFL QB Brett Favre said he would choose Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III over Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck if he were starting a team. 'Griffin, he's smaller, but if I was starting a team, I'd probably of went with RG3 just because, if they can't protect you, you got to protect yourself,' Favre said.

Footballguys view: Griffin is certainly a gunslinger like Favre was during his heyday. He was the best deep thrower in the 2012 NFL Draft, and has incredible accuracy downfield on bucket throws. If you wait on QB in your fantasy draft we suggest adding RG3 in the 8th or 9th round. He could be the lead guy in your QBBC, and is likely to start most weeks.

Murphy said he has not talked to Favre about returning. 'No, not personally,' Murphy said. 'With time, everything will pass.'

Saints | Brett Favre comments on bounty program     Mon Mar 5, 11:54 AM

Retired QB Brett Favre said he is happy the truth has come out regarding the New Orleans Saints bounty program; however, he would like to distance himself from the whole situation. Saints LB Jonathan Vilma reportedly offered $10,000 to any defender who could knock Favre out of the 2009 NFC Championship Game. 'Now the truth comes out. That's good. But that's football,' Favre said. 'The only thing that really pisses me off about the whole thing is we lost the game. That's the thing about that day that still bothers me. And that's the way it goes. If they wanted me to testify in court about this, they'd be calling the wrong guy.'

NFL | Brett Favre happy in retirement     Tue Feb 7, 08:34 AM

Former NFL QB Brett Favre said he did not miss playing football this past season. 'It went a lot smoother than the previous three or four years,' Favre said. 'At the end of last season, I'd said in years past that I knew. I really knew this time. I got beat up a little bit physically, but I still felt like I could still do it, but I just felt like it was time ... Mentally, I was just burned out. This season, being removed and having a bird's eye view but not being involved was eye-opening because I didn't miss it a bit.'

Bears | Not interested in Brett Favre     Tue Dec 6, 10:55 AM

Bears | Unlikely to add QB    Mon Dec 5, 02:27 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith disputed reports that the team might be looking to lure QB Brett Favre out of retirement. We won't have a quarterback tryout or anything like that.' The team still hopes QB Jay Cutler (thumb) can return at the end of the season.   Bears | Brett Favre willing to listen    Mon Dec 5, 01:36 PM

Retired QB Brett Favre would be willing to listen to the Chicago Bears if they call about signing him but the Bears likely will not be interested in that possibility.

Footballguys view: Favre has reportedly been working out and staying in shape. The Bears attempted to add Kyle Orton when he was on waivers, so they could be interested in an upgrade from Caleb Hanie. At this time it doesn't look like he'll sign, but with Favre you just never know.

Favre, however, was surprised Rodgers didn't win a championship before last season. 'I'm going to be honest, I was not surprised,' Favre said. 'The biggest surprise to me would be that he didn't do it sooner.' Favre said he realized all along how good of a quarterback Rodgers could be and had high expectations for him. The agent for Favre said he has not heard of any interest from the Colts. Irsay's tweet said, 'Brad, I'm in Hattiesburg ... is it right or left at the Firechief?'

NFL | Family says Brett Favre retired     Mon Jul 11, 10:11 AM

Footballguys view: Favre is crazy enough to come back (again) if the situation was right. NFL.com's Gil Brandt commented a week ago how he felt Favre could make a return to the league in 2011. As of right now FavreWatch is not on, but that could change - especially after the season starts and Favre gets the itch to play again.

NFL | Could Brett Favre return?     Thu Jul 7, 11:35 AM

Retired QB Brett Favre hasn't made any indication that he's pondering a return for a 21st NFL season. However, there remains speculation Favre might have one more comeback attempt in him. Favre's interest in mentoring Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton indicates he still has the bug to return. The Seattle Seahawks could be a potential destination should Favre decide to return.

Footballguys view: Favre can play at a higher level than some of the QBs slated to start right now, so if the game still seems fun to him, he should return. He should not, however, expect the football media to hang on his every word and action as they have in the past.

NFL | Favre thinking about returning?    Tue Jul 5, 06:14 PM

"I do think Favre would be interested in talking to a team about returning," Brandt wrote in an NFL.com chat Tuesday. "But I don't see a team out there right now that would bring him back as a starter."

Footballguys view: Perhaps Arizona would give #4 a shot if they can't land Kevin Kolb or Kyle Orton. Favre still has enough left to help a QB needy team. the question is whether teams will be THAT needy after the initial free agency/trade frenzy.
