Vikings | Favre played with groin injury in Week 8    Mon Nov 2, 11:09 AM

Peter King, of SI.com, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre (groin) said he pulled or strained his groin in practice Wednesday, Oct. 28, and took it easy in practice for the rest of the week. Favre said there was never any question he would play. However, about an hour before the game, during pregame warmups with the groin wrapped tightly, Favre aggravated the muscle on the field. 'I told T-Jack (backup Tarvaris Jackson) and (offensive coordinator) Darrell Bevell I may not be able to do it,'' Favre said. 'I didn't know if I'd be able to drop back very well. After I aggravated it, there was no way I was going to be able to move around in the pocket very much. We never called one bootleg the whole game. But we made it through OK.'' Favre said he was in throbbing pain four hours following the game.

Sean Jensen, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports former NFL QB Troy Aikman said he is impressed with how Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre is moving around despite being 40 years old. 'That generally is the first thing that goes --- your legs,' Aikman said. 'He has enough arm strength to play well into his 50s. But the other things you begin to lose, he hasn't lost enough of to keep himself from being effective.'

Vikings | Favre limited Wednesday    Wed Oct 28, 05:24 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre (hip) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Our view: Insert joke about old men with hip problems here. Favre could be in a body cast and he would still play in this game against Green Bay. He returns to Lambeau Field for the first time as an opponent.

The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre went 34-for-51 for 334 yards and one interception in Week 7.

Our view: Favre looked strong except for a late lapse in the pocket when he didn't feel Brett Keisel coming, and Keisel forced a fumble that LaMarr Woodley returned for a TD.

The Minnesota Vikings announced QB Brett Favre has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 4. Favre threw three touchdowns passes and for 271 yards against the Green Bay Packers. It is the 14th time in his career that he has been named NFC or AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Our view: Minnesota's offensive line deserves half of the award for giving Favre an eternity to throw when he would drop back.

Vikings | Offense spreading the wealth    Tue Oct 6, 10:57 AM

CBSSports.com reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre completed passes to eight different receivers in Week 4.

Our view: A reason it was so hard to defend Favre on Monday night was because of his ability to go through the progressions and find the weakness in the defense. Favre had so much time in the pocket he could have taken a nap, and without pressure it was like shooting fish in a barrel for the veteran.

Vikings | Favre airs the football out in Week 4    Tue Oct 6, 10:15 AM

ESPN.com reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre completed 7-of-12 passes thrown for 10-plus yards in Week 4 after completing just 7-of-18 attempts for 10 or more yards through the first three weeks of the season.

Our view: With the defense stacked to stop Adrian Peterson, the Vikings had to go to the air. Favre did a good job of spreading the ball around, and took his chances downfield. He also was able to recognize mismatches and busted coverages quickly, which aided his completion percentage on passes over 10 yards.

Vikings | Favre throws three TD passes Week 4    Tue Oct 6, 12:04 AM

The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre was 24-for-31 for 271 yards with a three touchdown passes Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers.

Our view: Favre had time to eat a sandwich and wash the plate it came on nearly every time he dropped back. After a rousing start vs. the Bears in week 1, the Packers new-look 3-4 defense has to go back to the drawing board. As Jon Gruden pointed out in the MNF booth, Aaron Kampman's pass rush skills have been wasted in this scheme.

Vikings | Favre probable for Week 4    Sat Oct 3, 03:29 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre (foot) was limited during practice Saturday, Oct. 3. He is listed as probable for Week 4.

The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre was 24-for-46 for 301 yards with two touchdowns and an interception Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers. It was Favre's first 300-yard game since Nov. 22, 2007.

Our view: Favre was at times inaccurate and was frequently pounded in the pocket. All of that will be forgotten after he eluded the rush and hit Greg Lewis in the back of the end zone for a last minute winning touchdown.

Sean Jensen, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre (hand) suffered an apparent hand injury during the fourth quarter of the team's Week 2 game.

Vikings | Favre throws two TDs Week 2, sets another record    Sun Sep 20, 07:51 PM

The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre started his 271st consecutive game Week 2 against the Detroit Lions, setting another league record. Former Vikings DE Jim Marshall held the previous record for consecutive starts when he started 270 games in a row from 1961-1979. Favre finished the game 23-for-27 for 155 yards with two touchdowns.

Vikings | Favre throws a touchdown in debut    Sun Sep 13, 05:20 PM

The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre went 14-for-21 for 110 yards and one touchdown in his Vikings debut Week 1. It was his 270th career start.

Our view: Favre's line was underwhelming, but Bernard Berrian was a non-factor and the Vikings didn't really have to open up the passing game to win this one.

Vikings | Jackson to back up Favre    Sat Sep 12, 03:07 PM

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Tarvaris Jackson is expected to backup starting quarterback Brett Favre in the season opener in Cleveland, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

Our view: Sage Rosenfels was the big free agent addition, but apparently he couldn't outperform Jackson in practice this week. Head coach Brad Childress stated this backup situation could change from week to week. It should only matter if (when?) Brett Favre sits out with an injury.

NFL | Will look into Favre comments about injury last season    Thu Sep 10, 11:40 AM

Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports the NFL will look into comments made by Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre that the New York Jets knew about his torn biceps tendon last season.

Our view: Way to go Brett! The Jets can't be too happy about this development.

Vikings | Favre says he and Berrian not on same page yet    Thu Sep 10, 10:19 AM

Rick Alonzo, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre said he is not on the same page yet with WR Bernard Berrian (hamstring) because Berrian has missed time with an injury, but Favre understands that injuries are a part of football. 'You can't make excuses; you've got to get it done. So we're way behind. He's not. I would say I'm way behind on where I need to be with him,' Favre said.

Our view: Favre compared this situation to the same one he encountered last year when he arrived in New York. Laveranues Coles was out with a quad injury, and the two didn't work together much until week one. They weren't on the same page when the season started, but by the midway point of the year Coles and Favre were in sync. That should be the case with Berrian, as long as both players can stay healthy the chemistry should work itself out on the field.

Vikings | Favre addresses team Monday    Thu Sep 10, 01:30 AM

Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre addressed the team Monday, Sept. 7, to explain why he wanted to return to the NFL and giving his thoughts on the team's prospects for 2009. Favre said, "All of the stuff that went on prior to training camp and up until I signed I just wanted to address. I didn't feel like I needed to, but I wanted the guys to know where I stood and what I was here for and sort of the timeline of the way things happened."

Vikings | Favre says he may not play in every game    Wed Sep 9, 03:02 PM

The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre said he may not be able to play in every regular season game this year.

Our view: File this under "ya think?" Ask any Jets fans how Favre looked in December last season. His injury prevented him from playing well, and this season the Vikings could be resting their quarterback in some of the most important weeks of the season.

Vikings | Favre fined $10,000    Fri Sep 4, 03:58 PM

Bob Glauber, of Newsday, reports the NFL is expected to decide by Friday, Sept. 4, whether to fine Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre for his crack-back block on Houston Texans FS Eugene Wilson, according to a league source.

Our view: Wilson is fine, and the block probably hurt Brett more than it did the veteran safety.

Vikings | Favre improving, still has work to do    Tue Sep 1, 09:15 AM

The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said QB Brett Favre's play was much improved during the team's preseason game Monday, Aug. 31, however Favre still has work to do. 'He did some really good things as far as putting the ball where it needed to be,' Childress said. 'He will be the first to tell you that he missed a few reads. He made a couple of nice plays with his feet and he had enough of the pocket presence to move around when he had to and still get the football where it needed to be.'

Our view: Childress is clearly going to live or die with Favre, which means no matter what happens, this season will have a good long-term outcome for Vikings fans.

Vikings | Favre doesn't believe he has cracked rib    Tue Sep 1, 09:06 AM

The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre (rib) said following the team's preseason game Monday, Aug. 31, he doesn't believe he has a cracked rib. Favre does believe, however, that he has some kind of rib injury. 'There is nothing you can do about it first of all, secondly, I don't believe it is (cracked),' Favre said. 'It doesn't feel great but I think I will be fine. We have not done an X-ray yet. If it is cracked, there is nothing you can do about it.'

Our view: Favre is just laying the groundwork for an excuse for poor play that he can use later in the season.

Vikings | Favre solid in preseason game Monday    Mon Aug 31, 10:41 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre went 13-for-18 for 142 yards and one touchdown in the team's preseason game Monday, Aug. 31.

Our view: Favre's performance was adequate-to-good, but the TD pass was created by Chester Taylor's run after catch ability, and Favre also committed a personal foul on a crackback block in the wildcat formation.

Vikings | Favre believes he may have cracked rib    Mon Aug 31, 03:15 PM

ESPNews reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre (rib) believes he may have a cracked rib. However, Favre has no plans to wear a flak jacket.

Our view: First his arm/shoulder, and now this. Not wearing a flak jacket is foolish if he indeed does have a cracked rib. Anyone who drafts Favre in their fantasy league had better be ready to get Sage Rosenfels on the waiver wire sometime (maybe soon) during the regular season.
