Jaguars | Coach explains Lee Evans move    Sun Aug 12, 09:24 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said Sunday, Aug. 12, that WR Lee Evans was released because he is no longer the same player as earlier in his career. He said Evans wasn't able to run routes the way he did in his prime. 'He's just struggling getting in and out of breaks and I think he felt the same way,' Mularkey said.

Footballguys view: Evans is going to have a difficult time catching on with another team if the WR poor Jaguars let him go. He's not the same player he used to be and this may be the end of his pro career.

Jaguars | Lee Evans, Cecil Shorts have done well at times    Sun Jun 17, 08:37 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WRs Lee Evans and Cecil Shorts have had 'their moments' at times during offseason workouts, according to general manager Gene Smith. At this point, it appears that Evans and Shorts are fighting for the No. 4 receiver job. Shorts also has experience as a punt returner, which might have help make the roster if he ends up on the bubble.

Footballguys view: Evans still has the speed to be an effective downfield target and will help stretch the field. Shorts is best utilized on short and intermediate routes, but also has decent moves in the open field.

Footballguys view: The Jags added a ton of weapons this offseason. In free agency they added both Laurent Robinson and Lee Evans. In the first-round of the 2012 NFL Draft they selected star WR Justin Blackmon. His roster spot may be saved because of his salary. His full 2012 salary is guaranteed, along with $1MM of his 2013 salary.
