Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said Sunday, Aug. 12, that WR Lee Evans was released because he is no longer the same player as earlier in his career. He said Evans wasn't able to run routes the way he did in his prime. 'He's just struggling getting in and out of breaks and I think he felt the same way,' Mularkey said.

At this point, it appears that Evans and Shorts are fighting for the No. 4 receiver job. Shorts also has experience as a punt returner, which might have help make the roster if he ends up on the bubble.

He's seeing Dr. Andrew this afternoon. It's two weeks and he'll be back for the playoffs, whatever round we happen to play in. It will be a little bit tighter if we have to play in the first round.'
