Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott likely to receive normal workload    Sat Sep 21, 08:43 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is expected to receive his normal workload in Week 3's game against the Miami Dolphins, according to offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

Footballguys view: Elliott should go off against the Dolphins...but the team might pull him from the game when things get out of hand. Even if he doesn't quite get his normal workload, Elliott could finish Week 3 as the top-scoring fantasy running back. We'll see if backup Tony Pollard can get enough work against the hapless Dolphins to be a 'what the heck' flex for Fantasy GMs.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott seeks more touches    Sat Sep 14, 01:45 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott says he's ready for a larger workload after logging 13 rushing attempts for 53 yards and catching one pass for 10 yards in the team's Week 1 win over the New York Giants. 'I think I'm ready now for a normal workload,' Elliott said Wednesday, Sept. 11. 'It just depends on how ... (the coaches) are feeling on Sunday. But if they ask, I'll be able to go out there and do it.'

Footballguys view: The Cowboys were managing Elliott's touches after a lengthy holdout. With that first game out of the way, it's time to start using him as the centerpiece of the offense. We're excited about what Kellen Moore is bringing to the table as the OC of the Cowboys and obviously Elliott is a top RB1 for Fantasy GMs.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott on pitch count?    Thu Sep 5, 12:51 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott impressed head coach Jason Garrett in his return to practice, but Garrett said Thursday, Sept. 5, that it's 'too early' to say if Elliott will be on a pitch count Sunday, Sept. 8, in the season opener.

Footballguys view: You're still starting him anyway as an RB1 for your fantasy team. Elliott may be limited but he could still be productive. Tony Pollard becomes more of a 'what the heck' flex with Elliott coming back.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott to be limited in Week 1    Wed Sep 4, 09:27 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is slated for 20 to 25 repetitions in Week 1 Sunday, Sept. 8, against the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Elliott could still post RB1 numbers even with a low snap count because he just showed back up after an extended holdout. Fantasy GMs who got him at a discount should be over the moon to start him even in a limited role for Week 1.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott deal gets done    Wed Sep 4, 08:05 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott agreed to a six-year, $90 million extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in the league Wednesday, Sept. 4. It's worth $103 million over eight years in total with $50 million guaranteed.

Footballguys view: Elliott surpasses Todd Gurley in annual average salary, now making $15 million per year with this new deal. He's now under contract with the Cowboys through the 2026 season. Elliott may get ramped up in Week 1 with limited snaps, but after that it's on. He's a no-brainer starter as a RB1 for Fantasy GMs every week.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott in shape to play    Tue Sep 3, 07:11 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is in shape to play Sunday if there is a contract done in time, his agent said Tuesday, Sept. 3. 'I think Zeke is showing he's committed by coming back to Dallas We didn't come here not to do a deal,' said agent Rocky Arceneaux.

Footballguys view: If Elliott signs at some point before Week 1 then Fantasy GMs would have to trust him as a low-end RB1 (at least) in his first game back. It shouldn't take too long for Elliott to get back up to speed with his teammates.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott talks progressing    Tue Sep 3, 12:15 PM

Updating an earlier report, Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's contract talks are in a state of urgency to finalize in the next 24 hours, according to sources. A deal does not appear to be far off, the sources said, but there are still issues that must be agreed upon.

Footballguys view: It seems like every other day we get varying news about Elliott and this contract negotiation. The news is more positive today and with the regular season fast approaching, hopefully Elliott gets signed before Week 1. We'll see if the news continues to trend in the right direction.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott flying back    Tue Sep 3, 09:52 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is flying back to Dallas Tuesday, Sept. 3, in case a deal is struck with the Cowboys.

Cowboys | No progress with Ezekiel Elliott    Mon Sep 2, 10:21 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's contract talks continued through Sunday, Sept. 1, but a deal is still not close. A source said 'everything' was holding up the deal.

Footballguys view: Like sands through the hourglass, these are the days of our lives. Soap opera aside, this Elliott situation seems to change every other day. They're moving towards a deal, then next thing you know 'everything' is holding up the deal. With the regular season right around the corner, things seem dire in terms of Elliott actually being able to play in Week 1. Stay tuned.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has made some progress in contract extension talks with the Cowboys, but the two sides have several more issues to work out, according to sources.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott likely to miss multiple games?    Fri Aug 30, 01:58 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is expected to miss 'regular season games,' in the opinion of owner Jerry Jones, who spoke on Elliott's contract following the team's preseason finale against the New York Giants. While the two sides have been in communication, nothing appears imminent, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Footballguys view: Now Mike Florio's report speculating six missed games seems more relevant. Even if Elliott does miss six games, among the worst case scenarios, he is still worth a third round pick at the very worst, and probably still a second. There's a chance he returns earlier than that, and if he missed only 2-3 games, he's still worth a first round pick. Tony Pollard is likely moving up to the 7th-8th round on this news, and he'll be a low RB1 against the Giants Week 1 if Elliott doesn't report.

Cowboys | Contract talks quiet for Ezekiel Elliott    Wed Aug 28, 06:56 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has not had any contact extension talks with the Cowboys over the past few days, but executive vice president Stephen Jones hopes the two sides can reach a deal before the start of the regular season.

Footballguys view: This is going down to the wire. Deals get done at deadlines so we have to see if the approaching regular season prompts action in this situation.

Cowboys | Dallas optimistic that Ezekiel Elliott deal can be finalized    Sat Aug 24, 10:23 AM

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones believes a contract extension with RB Ezekiel Elliott will be finalized before the regular-season opener Sept. 8, although he doesn't think a deal will happen in the next few days because there hasn't been much recent activity.

Footballguys view: Earlier this week, ESPN's Ed Werder (so good to see him back with the four-letter network), reported the Cowboys had offered Elliott a contract that would make him the second-highest paid running back in the league behind Todd Gurley. We'll need to see more in order to get this deal done. Right now, Fantasy GMs are still drafting Elliott as a top-10 pick. If he was not holding out, Elliott would easily be a top-four selection.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott wants to be highest-paid RB?    Thu Aug 22, 02:09 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott reportedly received a contract extension offer from the team that would make him one of the two highest-paid running backs in the league, according to a source.

Footballguys view: This is probably put out there by the team to make their offer look good, but Elliott thinks he deserves more if he didn't accept the deal. The nitty gritty is coming in the next two weeks, we'll see who blinks first. Tony Pollard's value will keep rising in the meantime.

Cowboys | Other extensions not imminent in Big D?    Tue Aug 20, 06:19 PM

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday, Aug. 20, is doesn't feel like there's any real movement on contract extensions for QB Dak Prescott, RB Ezekiel Elliott or WR Amari Cooper, according to David Helman of DallasCowboys.com. Jones added things could move fast.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys have some big-money deals to hand out, and they are dragging their feet at this time...at least with these three players. On Tuesday, the Cowboys signed LB Jaylon Smith to a new five-year, $64 million extension. We'll see if there's movement on any of the 'big 3' in the near future.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott continues Mexico workouts    Mon Aug 19, 01:50 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is continuing to work out at a 'great facility' in Cabo San Lucas, according to agent Rocky Arceneaux. There has been no real activity on contract negotiations.

Footballguys view: Hopefully Elliott is staying away from the LenDale White diet of tequila shots down there in Cabo. In all seriousness, reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter indicate that Elliott is in the best shape of his life. The two sides are not close in contract negotiations, but things can and do change quickly in the NFL. Stay tuned.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott staying in game shape    Thu Aug 15, 02:38 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's weight is in the low 220s, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Thursday, Aug. 15. It's Elliott's lowest weight since his rookie year, a source adds. Elliott remains away from the team during a contract holdout but will be ready to play as soon as he signs.

Footballguys view: It sounds like being out of shape because of an extended holdout is not a worry for Elliott.

Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday, Aug. 13, he's willing to continue contract negotiations with QB Dak Prescott, RB Ezekiel Elliott and WR Amari Cooper in the regular season.

Footballguys view: This is not what the players wanted to hear or what Fantasy GMs targeting these guys wanted to hear...specifically fantasy players who want Elliott in the first round. We'll continue to be optimistic in this situation on all three players, and hopefully something shakes out in the near future.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's return in time for the season opener against the New York Giants may have no better than a 50-50 proposition, according to comments made by CBS Sports color analyst Tony Romo.

Footballguys view: Elliott is a risky first-round pick at this time. We have confidence the two sides will find a way to get something done. Stay tuned.

Cowboys | Dallas has made generous offers to Big Three    Tue Aug 6, 02:11 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, RB Ezekiel Elliott and WR Amari Cooper have each reportedly received a contract offer from the team that would put each one in the top five highest-paid players at their position in the league, according to NFL Network's Jane Slater.

Footballguys view: Top five at running back and quarterback isn't really that generous considering the lack of big contracts at running back and caliber of players who have the top five contracts at quarterback, so this is probably being put out there by the team to get the players to the negotiating table in the battle of public perception.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's agents have told the team he will not play in 2019 without a new contract, a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Footballguys view: There is still a general tone of optimism that something will get done before the open of the season, but it's time to start considering a pass on Elliott at ADP. We'll be monitoring this closely, but for now it is really just a guess into Elliott and Jerry Jones' mindsets and who is willing to blink first.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's agent talked with the Cowboys Thursday, July 25, about his contract situation, according to a source. Elliott did not report for the start of training camp Friday, July 26.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is believed to be making plans for an out-of-country trip to begin a holdout as his teammates report to training camp in the coming week, a source said Saturday, July 20.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has privately said he intends to hold out of training camp unless he gets a new contract, according to Pro football Talk's Mike Florio via a league source.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys are set to report in just a little under two weeks from Monday. The team still needs to figure out big-money contracts for Elliott, QB Dak Prescott and WR Amari Cooper.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott in rare company    Wed Jul 10, 09:26 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's 5,247 yards from scrimmage are the fourth most by a player before their 24th birthday in NFL history.

Footballguys view: Elliott is one of the best backs in the game, and he certainly could be on a Hall of Fame track -- even after just three seasons as a pro. If he stays healthy and stays out of trouble, Elliott will continue to produce at a high level. We'll see if the Cowboys work out a long-term contract with Elliott that makes him one of the highest paid running backs in the league. He's under contract through 2020 and could be a candidate for a franchise tag in 2021 if no deal is done.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott rushed for a league-high 722 yards when the defense had eight or more men in the box in 2018, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Elliott is simply one of the best backs in the game today. He can thrive in all sorts of situations and that makes him a fantasy force. There is no suspension coming from an incident in Las Vegas earlier this year, so Fantasy GMs are thrilled to take Elliott off the board in the first couple of picks of any draft.

Cowboys | No suspension for Ezekiel Elliott    Wed Jul 3, 02:21 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has been informed that he will not be suspended by the NFL for his off-field incident in May.

Footballguys view: Good news for Elliott, the Cowboys and Fantasy GMs here. Elliott met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell earlier in the week to discuss the off-field incident where the superstar back was detained but not arrested in Las Vegas. Now clear of any suspension, Elliott is a lock to be a top 4 pick in any fantasy format.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is not expected to be suspended after meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday, July 2, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott issued an apology Tuesday, July 2, for his involvement in an off-field issue in May for which he was detained but not arrested. Elliott met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell earlier Tuesday.

Footballguys view: Goodell still has to make a decision whether or not to suspend Elliott because of this incident. Even though he wasn't arrested, Elliott made 'The Shield' look bad and per NFL policy does face league discipline. We don't think Elliott gets suspended for this latest occurrence.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is scheduled to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell Tuesday, July 2, to discuss an off-field incident he had in May, according to a source. Elliott was detained during the incident but was not arrested.

Footballguys view: Elliott could get a game or two off as a reminder that he is a previous offender under the league conduct policy even though this incident would not have been a big deal if a player without a previous suspension was involved. It would probably drop him to the bottom of the elite running back tier, but not out of the top five players overall.

Cowboys | No deal soon for Ezekiel Elliott    Tue Jun 25, 09:19 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is unlikely to get an extension in 2019 or next offseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Dan Graziano. Elliott's option for 2020 is worth $9.099 million, and the team feels good about franchise tag numbers on him in 2021.

Footballguys view: This was the Steelers model for handling Le'Veon Bell along with offering an extension that was palatable to them after tagging him. Elliott's off-field incidents will call for some protection in his eventual long term deal, and that could also be part of the Cowboys' hesitation.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is unlikely to face any league discipline over his involvement in a May 19 incident at a Las Vegas music festival, in the opinion of team owner Jerry Jones.

Footballguys view: Elliott has what was described as a minor altercation with a security guard at a music festival. We think nothing comes of this latest incident with Elliott and don't think it will negatively impact his ongoing contract negotiations with the Cowboys. Elliott is set to get a contract that makes him the highest paid running back in NFL history.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Elliott's option in 2020 is just protection in case the Cowboys can't get a new long-term deal done with their superstar running back. His next contract should pass Todd Gurley's deal with the Rams (four years, $57.5 million with $45 million guaranteed).
