Chicago Bears WR Eric Weems, WR Micheal Spurlock, WR Armanti Edwards, WR Chris X. Williams and RB Michael Ford are all in the mix for the kick and punt return jobs this season.

Footballguys view: The days of Devin Hester are long gone, and the Bears need to find a dangerous return man to aid their special teams. It will be interesting to see which one of these players stands out the most in training camp.

Bears | Plenty of WRs duking it out    Sat Jun 7, 10:55 PM

The No. 4 and 5 wide receiver jobs for the Chicago Bears are up for grabs, with WRs Armanti Edwards, Josh Morgan, Micheal Spurlock, Terrence Toliver, Eric Weems and Chris Williams set to battle for jobs during training camp and the preseason.

Footballguys view: We'd like to see Toliver get a chance because of his athleticism and body control. Morgan has been a disappointment as a pro because of inconsistency, but he's arguably the most naturally talented player listed above.

Free-agent QB Jordan Jefferson (Buccaneers), FB Jacob Hester (Broncos), WR Armanti Edwards (Browns), C Samson Satele (Colts) and DE Jamaal Anderson (Bears) are participating in the New Orleans Saints' minicamp on a tryout basis.

Seahawks | Armanti Edwards worked out    Thu Apr 24, 07:11 PM

The Seattle Seahawks worked out free-agent WR Armanti Edwards (Browns) Thursday, April 24.

Footballguys view: A converted quarterback, Edwards never amounted to much in his previous stint as a Carolina Panther. If he were signed, it more than likely be as a camp body.

Browns | Two moves made    Wed Nov 20, 10:09 AM

The Cleveland Browns placed WR Armanti Edwards (ankle) on Injured Reserve. WR Joshua Cooper was signed from the practice squad.

Footballguys view: Edwards wasn't much of a fantasy factor, so Cooper won't be either. Cooper is extremely fast and can make plays as a return man.

Browns | Armanti Edwards has ankle sprain    Tue Nov 19, 03:05 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Armanti Edwards (ankle) is dealing with an ankle sprain.

Browns | Armanti Edwards could see Wildcat action    Wed Oct 30, 11:00 AM

Cleveland Browns WR Armanti Edwards could see time at quarterback in Wildcat formations, according to head coach Rob Chudzinski.

Footballguys view: Edwards failed to impress as a wide receiver with the Panthers. The former college quarterback from Appalachian State will help mostly on special teams with the Browns.

Browns | Familiarity with Armanti Edwards    Tue Oct 29, 11:15 PM

Browns | Sign Armanti Edwards    Tue Oct 29, 04:39 PM

Updating a previous report, the Cleveland Browns are signing WR Armanti Edwards (Panthers) Tuesday, Oct. 29. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: With Travis Benjamin lost for the season the Browns needed to add a return man to the roster. Edwards failed to impress with the Panthers and is not fantasy relevant, even in super deep leagues.

Panthers | Competition for No. 3 WR job    Tue Aug 20, 04:03 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards (hamstring) has impressed the coaching staff in training camp and the preseason and has been listed as the third receiver behind WRs Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. WRs Domenik Hixon, David Gettis and Ted Ginn Jr. are battling with Edwards. Edwards spent some time dealing with a hamstring injury which kept him out of the team's second preseason game. The door has reopened for Gettis because of the ailment, and he was impressive with five catches for 82 yards in the second preseason game. It now looks like a wide open race for the No. 3 spot.

Footballguys view: Edwards has been a disappointment during his pro career but things may be clicking for him right now. Gettis has improved his concentration and is finally staying healthy and impressing. It's a competition we may not get an answer to until right before the start of the regular season. Neither are hot fantasy options if they win the job.

Panthers | Domenik Hixon back to practice    Mon Aug 19, 01:43 AM

Updating a previous item, Carolina Panthers WR Domenik Hixon (hamstring) returned to practice Sunday, Aug. 18. Hixon entered training camp battling for the team's No. 3 receiver spot but was sidelined the first two preseason games with a sore hamstring. RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) and WR Armanti Edwards (hamstring) remain out of practice.

Footballguys view: Hixon is trying to beat guys like David Gettis, Joe Adams, and Armanti Edwards for the WR3 spot behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. Even if he wins the job we're not expecting a ton of fantasy production from that position in the Panthers offense.

Panthers | Three receivers miss game    Fri Aug 16, 01:52 PM

Carolina Panthers WRs Joe Adams (calf), Armanti Edwards (hamstring) and WR Domenik Hixon (hamstring) each were inactive for the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15, against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballguys view: The Panthers are trying to find depth behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. With these guys out we saw WR David Gettis take advantage with 5 catches for 82 yards against the Eagles.

Panthers | Three WRs expected to miss preseason game    Mon Aug 12, 05:39 PM

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera indicated WRs Armanti Edwards (hamstring), Domenik Hixon (hamstring) and Joe Adams (calf) likely will not play in the team's second preseason game.

Footballguys view: The Panthers need to find out the pecking order behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. All three of these receivers are competing for that WR spot.

Panthers | Two missing from practice    Sun Aug 11, 11:57 PM

Carolina Panthers WRs Joe Adams (calf) and Armanti Edwards (hamstring) were each sidelined from practice Sunday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: Both Adams and Edwards are competing for the WR3 position behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. We'll see how quickly they can get back on the practice field. Domenik Hixon and Ted Ginn are both competing for spots on the depth chart as well.

Panthers | Armanti Edwards has chance to be No. 3 WR    Thu Aug 1, 08:47 PM

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said WR Armanti Edwards has a chance to win the No. 3 wide receiver job during training camp. Rivera said the biggest question for Edwards is his ability to catch passes in traffic.

Panthers | Sticking with Armanti Edwards    Tue Jul 30, 09:24 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards worked with the first-team offense during practice Tuesday, July 30, with WR Steve Smith resting. Edwards, a converted college quarterback, has been slow to develop into a receiver. However, the team isn't giving up on him just yet.

Footballguys view: This story could change by the end of training camp. The Panthers traded away the pick that would become 33rd overall in the 2011 NFL draft so they could select Edwards in the third-round of the 2010 draft. They don't have a WR corps that is chock full of talent and perhaps Edwards could stay if he impresses. However, if they cut ties with Edwards at the end of training camp we wouldn't be surprised.

Panthers | Wide receiver notes    Thu Jun 13, 01:25 PM

Carolina Panthers WRs Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell are locked in at the top two spots. Ted Ginn Jr. has stood out during minicamp, catching several deep passes from Cam Newton. Armanti Edwards looks more comfortable playing the position. Ginn and Edwards will compete with Kealoha Pilares, Joe Adams and David Gettis for roster spots and reps.

Footballguys view: Smith should be the star receiver he's been for years in 2013. His current ADP is WR28 (6.08) which makes him a good value. The bigger question mark is LaFell. He's got the size/speed combination to be an effective pro but has lacked consistency to his game. LaFell's current ADP is WR69 and he's coming off the board at 14.10 in 12 team PPR leagues.

Panthers | Time up for Armanti Edwards?    Sun Feb 10, 11:50 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards has a salary cap figure of just $753,000 for 2013, but until his 69-yard punt return in Week 17 against the New Orleans Saints, he hadn't done much in his first three years in the league. He is a candidate to be cut during the offseason.

Footballguys view: The Panthers also gave up a second-round pick (33rd overall, 2011) to add Edwards in the 2010 NFL Draft. If he makes the team it's certainly a make or break year for him in 2013.

Panthers | Armanti Edwards downgraded     Sat Nov 17, 12:15 PM

Panthers | Armanti Edwards leads team in receiving in Week 9    Sun Nov 4, 08:59 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards had just one catch in Week 9 against the Washington Redskins, but it was good for an 82-yard gain to lead the team in receiving yardage for the game. TE Greg Olsen checked in with a team-high five catches for 48 yards, while TE Gary Barnidge managed a 13-yard reception. WR Louis Murphy barely made the stat sheet with a four-yard catch on his only grab.

Panthers | Brandon LaFell injury update    Fri Nov 2, 08:31 PM

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said the team was hoping WR Brandon LaFell (concussion) could go through some work Friday, Nov. 2, but he didn't work out as the team had hoped. LaFell is listed as doubtful for Week 9 against the Washington Redskins. 'It doesn't (look good for LaFell),' Rivera said. 'We'll see how he is tomorrow, and then we'll go from there.'

Footballguys view: Without LaFell in the lineup it will mean more targets for WR Steve Smith and TE Greg Olsen. Could be a big day for the Panthers passing game against the 32nd rank Redskins pass defense.

Panthers | Armanti Edwards could be in jeopardy    Sat Oct 27, 02:42 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards's roster spot could be in jeopardy if the team decides to activate WR David Gettis (hamstring) from the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: Not a huge surprise here as Edwards has failed to play up to expectations. The Panthers traded away a 2011 second-round pick to the Patriots in order to select Armanti Edwards in the third-round (89th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. That pick became 33rd overall and the Patriots selected CB Ras-I Dowling.

Panthers | Make or break year for Armanti Edwards    Wed Aug 1, 10:41 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards is trying to stick with the team for a third season, and this training camp might be a make-or-break situation. It was telling when QB Cam Newton mentioned the No. 2 receiver battle, he did not mention Edwards. 'It's an intriguing competition at that (No. 2) position. We're expecting a lot from (WR Brandon LaFell), (WR Seyi Ajirotutu), (WR Kealoha Pilares), in addition to (WR Louis Murphy).'

Footballguys view: We're thinking break.

Panthers | Armanti Edwards expected to be on roster bubble    Mon Jul 2, 05:52 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards is expected to be in the roster bubble during training camp.

Footballguys view: Edwards has not lived up to expectations and could be bounced in training camp if he doesn't have a strong performance. The converted QB will compete with rookie WR Joe Adams for work on special teams as a punt/kick returner.

Panthers | Armanti Edwards may be on bubble    Sat Apr 28, 02:18 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards' roster spot is in jeopardy because of the team added WR Joe Adams in the draft.

Footballguys view: Edwards hasn't lived up to his potential after the team surrendered a second-round draft pick to select him in the third-round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Panthers | Armanti Edwards could be returner    Thu Dec 1, 02:40 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards likely would be the main kick returner in Week 13 if WR Kealoha Pilares (quadriceps) is not able to play.

Footballguys view: Edwards has failed to live up to expectations so far in Carolina, so any sort of production would be helpful.

Panthers | Armanti Edwards could play more QB    Thu Aug 11, 01:17 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards might see more time as the quarterback this season. Edwards, who played QB at Appalachian State, is not competing for a starting job, but offensive coordinator Rod Chudzinski plans to use him occasionally in the Wildcat formats with QB Cam Newton split out. The team devoted more than 30 minutes of practice Tuesday, Aug. 9, to allow Edwards to take snaps out of the shotgun.

Footballguys view: We may not see much of Edwards at QB this year, but the mere threat of him running the Wildcat will force defenses to prepare for it before they play the Panthers.

Panthers | Armanti Edwards trying to improve    Mon Aug 1, 12:34 AM

Carolina Panthers second-year WR Armanti Edwards said last season was one of the lowest points in his football career and he lost confidence in himself, especially on punt returns. He said he just didn't trust himself last season. Edwards spent a good portion of the summer working on route techniques with retired WR Muhsin Muhammad. Muhammad worked with Edwards to use his hands more often to get off jams by cornerbacks. Edwards has looked more comfortable so far in training camp.

Footballguys view: The Panthers gave up the 33rd pick in this year's draft for Edwards, so they won't give up on him so hastily. He could be the new Antwaan Randle-el, a "slash" passing/receiving/returning threat.
