Panthers | Delhomme injured Week 8    Sun Nov 1, 06:32 PM

Panthers | Will try not to work on Delhomme's mechanics as much    Thu Oct 29, 11:51 AM

Darin Gantt, of the Rock Hill Herald, reports Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach Rip Scherer has agreed to pull back some of his technical suggestions to QB Jake Delhomme and let Delhomme play with the more spontaneous style he has used before, according to sources.

Our view: How about convincing Delhomme to stop making ill advised throws? This isn't a mechanical issue as much as it is a decision making issue. Delhomme is not putting the ball into good spots, and at times it looks like he's throwing blind into coverage. Perhaps playing with more spontaneity will help Delhomme make more big plays, and less bone-headed decisions.

Panthers | Delhomme to remain starter    Wed Oct 28, 01:46 PM

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox said that QB Jake Delhomme will remain the team's starting quarterback. Fox said he thinks Delhomme gives the team 'the best chance to win.'

Our view: John Fox is loyal to a fault here. Clearly Delhomme's best days are far behind him, and a change at the quarterback position might be just what this team needs. Delhomme gets the dreaded vote of confidence here, and could be on a short leash the rest of the year.

Panthers | Beat writer says real chance Moore starts week 8    Mon Oct 26, 06:55 PM

Darin Gantt, of the Rock Hill Herald, reports that there's a "real chance" Matt Moore starts next week instead of Jake Delhomme. He puts the odds at 55-45.

Our view: Steve Smith's value would actually get a bump if Moore starts. He produced well with Moore late in 2007, and Jake Delhomme's accuracy on deep passes has been terrible.

Panthers | Fox doesn't commit to Delhomme as starter    Sun Oct 25, 10:15 PM

Charles Chandler, of the Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox did not commit to QB Jake Delhomme as the team's starting quarterback. Fox said, "Like all positions, we'll evaluate it and whatever changes we need to make, we'll make." Delhomme has thrown a league leading 13 interceptions this season.

Our view: The special teams also let down the Panthers, and the defense didn't answer the bell in the second half, so there are enough excuses for Fox to keep Delhomme in if he wants to.

Panthers | Delhomme throws three INTs Week 7    Sun Oct 25, 07:47 PM

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme was 27-for-44 for 325 yards with three interceptions Week 7 against the Buffalo Bills. He has now thrown 13 interceptions this season.

Our view: Delhomme and the Panthers repeatedly shot themselves in the foot in a game that their defense dominated in the first half despite the Panthers going to the locker room down 7-2.

Panthers | Delhomme throws two more interceptions Week 6    Sun Oct 18, 05:57 PM

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme was 9-for-17 for 65 yards with a touchdown pass and two interceptions Week 6.

Panthers | Delhomme throws another two picks Week 3    Tue Sep 29, 12:07 AM

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme was 22-for-33 for 220 yards with a touchdown pass and two interceptions Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Our view: Only one of the interceptions was Delhomme's fault (Steve Smith ran the wrong route), and Muhsin Muhammad could have broken up the other, but Delhomme still looked mediocre overall. He's probably not in immediate danger of getting pulled because John Fox is loyal to veterans, and the Panthers don't have a great alternative on the bench.

Panthers | Delhomme throws for 308 yards Week 2    Sun Sep 20, 07:58 PM

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme was 25-for-41 for 308 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception during the team's Week 2 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Our view: Delhomme connected often with stud wide receiver Steve Smith, but his lone interception was a killer.

Panthers | Delhomme locking in on S. Smith?    Sat Sep 19, 11:58 AM

Pat Yasinskas, of ESPN.com, reports six of Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme's nine interceptions in his last two games played have been intended for WR Steve Smith.

Our view: This is where the Panthers lack of a dynamic #2 receiver and viable #3 receiver hurts them greatly. Still, Delhomme locking onto Smith usually results in good things for his fantasy owners over time.

Panthers | Delhomme contract update    Fri Sep 18, 11:23 AM

Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com, reports Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said during a radio interview the five-year contract extension the team gave QB Jake Delhomme is really a three-year deal.

Panthers | Fox says Delhomme remains starting quarterback    Mon Sep 14, 08:38 AM

Charles Chandler, of the Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox said following the team's Week 1 game that QB Jake Delhomme will remain the starting quarterback for Week 2. 'Obviously, I think we start back with Jake. I think we've got to go back and evaluate what happened to us. Personally, after not seeing the tape, I don't think that's all Jake's fault,' Fox said.

Our view: Delhomme was in playoff form yesterday, and the rumors about a quarterback like Jeff Garcia joining the team are already starting to fly around. The Panthers playoff hopes will be quickly dashed if Delhomme continues to perform this way.

Panthers | Quarterbacks struggle Week 1    Sun Sep 13, 05:53 PM

The Associated Press reports the Carolina Panthers' three quarterbacks struggled during their Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. QB Jake Delhomme was 7-for-17 for 73 yards with four interceptions and a lost fumble. Delhomme was replaced by QB Josh McCown (knee), who went 1-for-6 for two yards before leaving with a knee injury. QB Matt Moore closed out the game for the Panthers by going 6-for-11 for 63 yards with an interception.

Our view: Delhomme's performance was way too reminiscent of his meltdown against the Cardinals in the playoffs. The Panthers haven't taken a QB in the draft in a while, and they don't have a first-round pick next year. There's no relief in sight for the Panthers offense. DeAngelo Williams and Steve Smith owners should definitely be concerned.

Panthers | Delhomme replaced by McCown     Sun Sep 13, 03:23 PM

FOX Sports reports Carolina Panthers QB Josh McCown has replaced QB Jake Delhomme during the team's Week 1 game.

Our view: Could this be Delhomme's swan song? Probably not, but the writing is on the wall. We like Matt Moore better long term than McCown.

Panthers | McCown struggling to hold off Moore    Tue Aug 18, 01:40 PM

The Charlotte Observer reports about the unspectacular play of backup quarterback Josh McCown, who is attempting to hold off Matt Moore for the No. 2 job. McCown threw an interception and fumbled. However, the fumble was the result of faulty pass protection. Giants defensive lineman Maurice Evans blew by Panthers backup right tackle Geoff Schwartz to sack McCown.

Our view: This is an important backup competition to watch in the preseason because Jake Delhomme is no spring chicken, and could miss time due to injury at some point during the regular season. The team may look to one of their backups if Delhomme starts throwing a bunch of interceptions as well. If McCown or Moore were to get into the lineup, we would expect the Panthers to lean on their run game more than ever.

Panthers | Delhomme average Monday    Tue Aug 18, 12:24 AM

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme was 5-for-9 for 38 yards over three series against the New York Giants Monday, Aug. 17.

Our view: It's hard to read too much into Delhomme's anemic numbers since he was without favorite target Steve Smith.
