Jaguars | Could show interest in two QBs    Mon Jan 23, 01:32 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars could show interest in Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent QB Kyle Orton and Houston Texans impending free-agent QB Jake Delhomme this offseason.

Footballguys view: Orton makes sense for the team as he could compete with Blaine Gabbert for the starting job in training camp. Delhomme makes zero sense for the team. He's no longer the same player he used to be and would be more of a veteran backup than a guy who could push Gabbert for the starting job.

Houston Texans QB Jake Delhomme went 18-for-28 for 211 yards and one touchdown against the Tennessee Titans in Week 17. Delhomme came into the game when QB T.J. Yates (shoulder) left with a shoulder injury.

Footballguys view: Delhomme was good enough that the Texans might consider starting him or putting him in early if Yates struggles or his shoulder injury is hampering the rookie.

Texans | To sign Jeff Garcia    Tue Dec 6, 05:56 PM

The Houston Texans will sign free-agent QB Jeff Garcia (UFL) to back up QB T.J. Yates. In a corresponding move, the team waived QB Kellen Clemens. QB Jake Delhomme will be the No. 2 quarterback and Garcia is expected to be the third-stringer.

Footballguys view: Garcia gives the team another veteran QB to turn to if rookie T.J. Yates struggles. This team wants to make a deep run in the postseason, but the loss of starter Matt Schaub will be difficult to overcome.

Texans | Have not decided on No. 2 QB    Wed Nov 30, 02:17 PM

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said the team will decide whether QB Kellen Clemens or QB Jake Delhomme will be the No. 2 quarterback by the end of the week.

Footballguys view: Delhomme was just added to the roster, while Clemens has been there about a week. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Clemens as the primary backup behind rookie T.J. Yates.

Texans | Jake Delhomme to serve as backup    Tue Nov 29, 05:57 PM

Houston Texans QB Jake Delhomme will serve as the backup to QB T.J. Yates. Delhomme's agent said he has been working out and staying in shape.

Panthers | Offensive lineman lobbies for Jake Delhomme    Tue Jun 28, 02:41 AM

Carolina Panthers OL Ryan Kalil lobbied on Twitter for the team to re-sign QB Jake Delhomme if he is released by the Cleveland Browns once the lockout is lifted.

Footballguys view: Delhomme should be available on the open market, and could find his way back to Carolina. He could begin the season as the starter while rookie Cam Newton develops at his own pace. There's a chance the Broncos could have interest in Delhomme to back up Tim Tebow if they trade Kyle Orton once the lockout is over.

Panthers | Two former QBs unlikely to return    Sun Jun 26, 01:12 PM

The Carolina Panthers likely will not show interest in Tennessee Titans impending free-agent QB Kerry Collins or Cleveland Browns QB Jake Delhomme if he is released after the lockout ends.

Footballguys view: Collins could stay in Tennessee where he could start until Jake Locker is prepared to start. Delhomme is unlikely to stay in Cleveland and could end up with John Fox in Denver if the Broncos trade Kyle Orton.

Panthers | Could show interest in Jake Delhomme if released    Mon Jun 13, 01:32 PM

The Carolina Panthers could be interested in Cleveland Browns QB Jake Delhomme if the Browns release him after the lockout is over. The Panthers are expected to look for a veteran quarterback during free agency and C Ryan Kalil indicated hat he would like to see Delhomme return.

Footballguys view: The Panthers have given Delhomme enough money that he should be willing to play for them for free in 2011.

Browns | Jake Delhomme not expected to return    Sun Jun 12, 03:11 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Jake Delhomme is not expected to be with the team this season.

Broncos | Could show interest in Jake Delhomme if released    Mon Jun 6, 12:47 PM

The Denver Broncos could show interest in Cleveland Browns QB Jake Delhomme if he is released after the lockout is over and they trade QB Kyle Orton.

Footballguys view: Delhomme and Broncos head coach John Fox had a good working relationship when they were in Carolina together. We expect Orton to be traded to someone like the Vikings or the Cardinals once the lockout is over. This would make Tim Tebow the starter and Delhomme could compete with Brady Quinn to be the primary backup.

Browns | McCoy not guaranteed starting job    Tue May 24, 01:14 PM

Albert Breer, from NFL.com, reports Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren said the starting QB job will be up for grabs with Colt McCoy, Seneca Wallace, and (for now) Jake Delhomme in the mix. "We have Seneca Wallace, too, and Jake Delhomme as well right now," Holmgren said at the NFL Spring Meeting. "But (McCoy) got his feet wet last year. I didn't necessarily want him to play that much last year, but we were injured, and so he had a chance to play. He showed us enough where he will go in, and we're hopeful that -- it'll be competitive -- but if he does what I think he can do, he'll probably be the guy, yeah."

Footballguys view: McCoy is likely going to be the starter once the regular season begins, but we can't be certain just yet. He's going to have to earn the position in training camp and beat out at least Wallace for the job. McCoy has been leading private workouts and seems to have taken a real leadership role this offseason.

Browns | Delhomme not a lock to be back    Mon May 23, 01:30 PM

Tony Grossi, from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports veteran QB Jake Delhomme is not a lock to return to the Browns. If he does return it would likely be for the veteran minimum. Delhomme took home $7 million from the Browns and $12.25 million from Carolina last year.

Footballguys view: Delhomme was not charged for stealing that money last year, although some think he should've been. If he comes back to the Browns it could be as the third-string guy behind Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace.

Browns | Jake Delhomme not willing to be a backup    Sun Mar 27, 02:59 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Jake Delhomme has indicated to the team that he has no intention of being a backup next season and wants to start, reports Dan Pompei, of NationalFootballPost.com.

Footballguys view: What Delhomme wants and what Delhomme gets may be two entirely different things. The veteran QB is a fiery competitor, so it makes sense that he would want to start but realistically the team would be better off with him on the bench.

Browns | Jake Delhomme could start next season    Sun Mar 27, 02:56 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Jake Delhomme could be the starter next season if the lockout drags on for a long time because it would not give QB Colt McCoy enough time to learn the new offense, reports Dan Pompei, of NationalFootballPost.com. The team likely would feel more comfortable with Delhomme starting in that situation because of his experience.

Footballguys view: Ugh, this is not what most Browns fans want to hear. Delhomme is not the same player he used to be and has a propensity to throw many ill advised passes.

Browns | Jake Delhomme wanted in Cleveland    Fri Mar 4, 10:48 PM

Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert said Friday, March 4, that QB Jake Delhomme is wanted back if the team can afford him, reports Mary Kay Cabot, of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. 'If not, you have to find another one,' Heckert said. 'I don't think I can answer [if Delhomme will accept a paycut] right now. I think Jake really likes Cleveland.'

Footballguys view: The team is moving forward with Colt McCoy as their starter, and have already signed backup QB Seneca Wallace to a new contract. Delhomme will only stay in Cleveland if the price is right.

Browns | Seneca Wallace could be No. 2 QB    Thu Feb 24, 09:22 AM

The Cleveland Browns are likely to choose between QB Jake Delhomme and QB Seneca Wallace for the No. 2 quarterback job behind QB Colt McCoy, according to Tony Grossi, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Delhomme is under contract for 2011 for $5.4 million. Wallace is unsigned and has expressed a desire to compete for a starting job. Team president Mike Holmgren conceded that Wallace may fit better in head coach Pat Shurmur's offense because of his past exposure to the West Coast offense. 'That decision honestly hasn't been made yet,' Holmgren said. 'Some of it has to do clearly with Jake's contract.'

Footballguys view: Wallace knows what Mike Holmgren wants out of his quarterbacks, and could provide the team with valuable veteran depth at the position. We expect Cleveland to select a QB in the mid-rounds of the draft to groom as well.

Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini said he is not sure if QB Jake Delhomme or QB Seneca Wallace will be the No. 2 quarterback in Week 15, reports Nate Ulrich, of the Akron Beacon Journal.
