Detroit Lions DL Jared DeVries (knee) said he will undergo microfracture surgery next month in hopes of playing in the NFL next season, reports Dave Birkett, of the Detroit Free Press. The Lions have told DeVries that he will not be back with the team next season.

Detroit Lions DL Jared DeVries (knee) has undergone minor knee surgery and could return to the field this season, according to Tom Kowalski, of Mlive.com. However, he will likely be place on Injured Reserve. Although no decision has been made at this point, there are a couple of factors that point in that direction. One, the Lions are fairly deep at the left defensive end position. Secondly, DeVries is 34 years old and hasn't been involved in any significant football activity since 2008. DeVries suffered a tear in his Achilles' tendon early in training camp last year, had surgery and was lost for the season.

Detroit Lions DL Jared DeVries (knee) could miss the entire season with a left knee injury, according to Chris McCosky, of The Detroit News. DeVries, who has missed virtually all of camp with the injury, was seeking a second medical opinion Wednesday, Aug. 25. 'We are still waiting on the results,' head coach Jim Schwartz said. 'Whether or not he goes on IR depends on what the medical opinion is. Is he going to need surgery or not and how long will he be out if (the knee) needs surgery?'

Cotsonika, of the Detroit Free Press, reports free-agent DE Jared DeVries (lions) requested his release so he could test the free-agent market before free agency begins March 5. The Detroit Lions were unsure about DeVries' recovery from a torn Achilles' tendon, and were planning to release him before paying a $400,000 roster bonus due to him in a couple of weeks. DeVries said, "They just didn't want to make the commitment, for whatever reason. My Achilles is fine, but I can understand their caution. I predicate the opportunity to let me explore the options and also appreciate the opportunity to possibly come back."
