Bills | James Davis works out    Mon Oct 1, 07:16 PM

The Buffalo Bills worked out free-agent RB James Davis (Lions) Monday, Oct. 1.

Footballguys view: Davis and C.J. Spiller were a dangerous backfield duo in college at Clemson. It hasn't worked out for Davis during his pro career and he'd only be veteran depth for the Bills.

The Washington Redskins released RB James Davis Sunday, Aug. 21. Davis left the team last week, and was placed on the reserve/left squad list. Davis will be free to sign with another team once he clears waivers.

Footballguys view: It could be difficult for Davis to find another team after bouncing around the league and getting buried on the Redskins depth chart. With so many injuries at the RB position we think Davis may have a few suitors.

The Washington Redskins opened training camp with RBs Ryan Torain, Keiland Williams, James Davis, Shaun Draughn, Roy Helu Jr. and Evan Royster. For the past six training camps, RB Clinton Portis opened camp as the team's No. 1 running back, but now the team has a battle to begin in training camp for the starting tailback duties. Torain replaced Portis last season, starting eight games for the Redskins. He rushed for 742 yards and four touchdowns, while averaging 4.5 yards per clip.

Redskins | Four young RBs might see increased role    Thu Mar 10, 02:28 AM

The Washington Redskins have four young running backs, Andre Brown, James Davis, Shawnbrey McNeal and Chad Simpson, who might compete for more responsibilities in 2011, reports Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com.

Footballguys view: Ryan Torain ran with great power and revived his career in 2010, but his injury history means the Redskins need to completely explore the other options on their roster to see if they need to bring in better depth through the draft or free agency.

Redskins | Two RBs likely to split carries in practice    Mon Nov 29, 03:12 PM

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said RBs Keiland Williams and James Davis likely will share reps during practice this week but is not sure which will start in Week 13, reports The Washington Post. Shanahan said he has confidence in both running backs.

Footballguys view: More Shanahanigans here. Keiland Williams is a versatile runner who can be productive on the ground or as a receiver out of the backfield. However, James Davis seems like a favorite of Shanahan and may get an extended look going forward.

Redskins | James Davis will see time Week 12    Sat Nov 27, 11:03 AM

Washington Redskins RB James Davis will not start in Week 12 but will receive some carries during the game, reports Rick Maese, of The Washington Post.

Footballguys view: Davis will be behind undrafted rookie free agent Keiland Williams on the depth chart. Williams is a better back, but Davis will spell him from time to time.

Redskins | Keiland Williams to start in Week 12    Thu Nov 25, 11:39 AM

Washington Redskins RB Keiland Williams will start in the teams Week 12 game, according to ESPN.com. RB James Davis will serve as the primary backup.

Footballguys view: Williams is a versatile back who can rack up yards as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. If he performs well while Ryan Torain is out with a hamstring injury he could earn more playing time when both backs are healthy.

The Washington Redskins are expected to sign practice squad RB James Davis to their active roster, according to The Washington Post.

Redskins | Clinton Portis, Ryan Torain practice Monday    Mon Nov 8, 05:24 PM

Washington Redskins RBs Clinton Portis (groin) and Ryan Torain (hamstring) both practiced Monday, Nov. 8, but it is still unknown if either will be ready for Week 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to The Washington Post's Barry Svrluga. Torain practiced at full speed and said the bye week helped him heal up. It is possible that the team will activate RB James Davis this week. Head coach Mike Shanahan said Portis will need a full week of practice to work himself back into playing shape.

Footballguys view: Clinton Portis will likely be eased back into the lineup for the Redskins. He may not get his starting job back from Ryan Torain, but could easily be used as the team's third-down back. Portis is good in pass protection and also a natural hands catcher out of the backfield.

Browns | James Davis waived    Tue Oct 26, 10:52 AM

The Cleveland Browns have waived RB James Davis, according to Tony Grossi, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Davis also said there is no question that he is the team's fastest offensive player.   Browns | Davis ready for his second season    Thu Mar 25, 11:10 AM

ClevelandBrowns.com reports that after appearing in two games and being inactive for a third, RB James Davis was placed on injured reserve on October 3rd. With 13 games remaining on the schedule, Davis was forced to watch his teammates complete the season without him. The isolating experience of not being able to finish what he started has driven Davis to become a better player when he returns to the field for the Browns. "The rehab process went really (well)," Davis said. "Right now, I made this my hardest offseason that I ever had because I'm making a comeback. I'm trying to get as strong as possible, stronger than I've ever been before. I know it's going to take a lot of work this offseason to get there and that's what I'm doing right now, working as hard as I can. Right now, I'm 100 percent, but I'm only getting stronger."

Footballguys view: Davis looked good in the preseason last year, and during his time in college he kept C.J. Spiller (arguably this year's best RB in the draft) from being a starter. Coming off an injury, and with a new regime in Cleveland Davis will have to prove himself all over again. If he stays healthy he could be a surprise fantasy player in 2010, but it may take a Jerome Harrison injury for him to get on the field.

Browns | Questions surrounding J. Davis' injury    Mon Oct 12, 03:10 PM

Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports two witnesses say Cleveland Browns RB James Davis (shoulder) injured his shoulder during a post-practice drill in which he was not wearing pads and the linebacker that hit him was. However, a team spokesman said that was untrue Saturday, Oct. 10. The NFL is aware of this incident and is investigating it. 'This is an outrage,' said a high-ranking NFLPA source. 'We have a no-pads rule for offseason activities. We've never seen a need to have a rule that if some guy has on pads, he can't take on a guy without pads. The commissioner's office needs to look into this.'

Browns | Six probable for Week 3    Fri Sep 25, 11:35 PM

Cleveland Browns RB James Davis (shoulder), C Alex Mack (knee), WR Mohamed Massaquoi (shoulder), RB Cedric Peerman (thigh), DT Ahtyba Rubin (toe) and P Dave Zastudil (knee) are listed as probable for Week 3.

Footballguys view: Jerome Harrison and James Davis should split most of the time at running back. Against the Ravens there shouldn't be much room to run, so most of their production will come as receivers out of the backfield. Overall, it looks to be a tough Sunday for all the Browns and we'd only recommend Braylon Edwards as a starter this week.

Browns | Harrison getting first-team reps    Fri Sep 25, 02:15 PM

Tony Grossi, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports that Browns RB Jerome Harrison has been getting first-team reps while Jamal Lewis has been missing practice. Rookie RB James Davis is also fully participating in practice.

Footballguys view: Harrison is a decent flex play in PPR leagues because he's a good receiver out of the backfield, and we wouldn't be surprised to see him break a long play or two. Harrison has always been productive when he has got touches in the past, he just hasn't gotten many touches.

Browns | J. Davis admits he needs to adjust to speed of the game    Fri Sep 25, 12:32 AM

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Cleveland Browns RB James Davis admitted after the team's Week 1 game that he needs to adjust to the speed of the game and know his assignments thoroughly so he can play faster. Davis gained just five yards on four carries and caught three passes for four yards in the regular-season opener.

Footballguys view: With Jamal Lewis banged up, we could see the rookie Davis get an expanded role. Unfortunately for him, the Browns play the Ravens this week, so perhaps most of his production could come as a receiver out of the backfield.

Browns | J. Davis involved in car accident; questionable for Week 1    Sat Sep 12, 06:25 PM

James Walker, of ESPN.com, reports Cleveland Browns rookie RB James Davis (head) was involved in a one-car collision Saturday, Sept. 12, while driving to the team's practice facility. He has been added to the team's injury report for Week 1 as questionable, as he was briefly hospitalized Saturday. His injury is being described by the team as a head injury.

Footballguys view: We're glad the injury wasn't more serious, and if he doesn't play it will be a blow to the Browns offense. It's going to be difficult to move the ball on the ground against the Vikings and the Williams wall - and the Browns may abandon the run early if they fall behind. Davis has been the Browns most exciting rookie this preseason, and is expected to spell Jamal Lewis plus he should get in on passing downs as well.
