Patriots | Fred Davis released    Fri Jun 19, 05:55 PM

New England Patriots TE Fred Davis was released Friday, June 19.

Footballguys view: Davis just isn't the same player he used to be, and he was a longshot to make the final roster behind Rob Gronkowski and Scott Chandler. We might see another team take a chance on the veteran, but there's also a chance that his career is done.

Patriots | Fred Davis agrees with New England    Mon May 11, 10:06 AM

Free-agent TE Fred Davis (Redskins) agreed to a one-year deal with the New England Patriots Monday, May 11.

Footballguys view: Well that was quick. Davis was just reinstated by the league last week, and now he finds himself with the defending Super Bowl champs. Davis was out of the league last year after repeated violations of the substance abuse policy, a DUI and a domestic incident. It's an interesting move for the Patriots as they are jam packed at the position. Behind starter Rob Gronkowski, they have Scott Chandler, Michael Hoomanawanui and Tim Wright. Rookie A.J. Derby, a sixth-round pick, is also on the depth chart. Davis is no guarantee to make the final roster.

NFL | Fred Davis reinstated    Thu May 7, 12:18 PM

Free-agent TE Fred Davis (Redskins) was reinstated by the NFL Thursday, May 7, and is allowed to sign with any team.

Footballguys view: Davis was initially suspended indefinitely in early 2014 for repeated violations of the league's substance abuse policy. We'd be shocked to see multiple teams lined up to sign him on the open market. Davis is now 29 years old, and it's been a few years since he was actually productive in the NFL.

Redskins | Fred Davis arrested    Thu Feb 20, 10:49 PM

Washington Redskins impending free-agent TE Fred Davis was arrested Thursday, Feb. 20, and has been charged with driving under the influence.

Footballguys view: We'd be surprised if he ever plays in the NFL again. The NFL already suspended Davis indefinitely for violating the league's substance-abuse policy before this latest incident. If he's ever going to play again, he needs to get things back on track in his personal life.

Redskins | Fred Davis suspended indefinitely    Wed Feb 19, 04:03 PM

Washington Redskins impending free-agent TE Fred Davis has been suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Footballguys view: Davis has fallen off of a cliff in both fantasy and NFL terms since tearing his achilles during the 2012 season. He may get reinstated, but it is likely that he won't be a relevant fantasy again.

NFL | Fred Davis facing suspension    Fri Jan 24, 09:05 AM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis, a pending free agent, is facing a six-game drug suspension, according to a league source. He has previously served a suspension for marijuana use.

Footballguys view: This won't help his free agency value. We'll see if Davis is actually suspended at some point in the future.

Redskins | Fred Davis getting more PT    Wed Dec 18, 06:05 PM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis is seeing more playing time with TE Jordan Reed (concussion) sidelined, and Davis caught his first touchdown pass of the year in Week 15. Davis has three catches in the last three games but didn't have a catch prior to that since Sept. 15.

Footballguys view: He can have all the practice time he wants, don't put him in your lineup as he is not likely to produce anything but sadness this weekend.

Redskins | Fred Davis saw limited snaps    Tue Nov 26, 10:21 PM

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said Tuesday, Nov. 26, that he does not discuss discipline concerning a player. However, a report from NBC Washington surfaced that TE Fred Davis missed team meetings during the week leading up to the Week 12 game against the San Francisco 49ers Monday, Nov. 25. Davis played sparingly, on the field for the final drive. He was not targeted once. TE Logan Paulsen was the team's top tight end, with TE Niles Paul playing a hybrid fullback/tight end role with FB Darrel Young (hamstring) inactive.

Footballguys view: Davis has been in the coach's doghouse for quite some time. He's just not much of a fantasy factor and will leave Washington in free agency next offseason.

The Washington Redskins have declared LB Brandon Jenkins, DL Chris Neild, TE Fred Davis, SS Jose Gumbs, OG Josh LeRibeus, WR Joshua Morgan, QB Rex Grossman inactive for Week 11.

Redskins | Fred Davis trying to stay patient    Wed Nov 6, 02:07 PM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis said he is trying to stay patient while waiting for a chance to play but is feeling useless because he has been inactive the last several games. Davis said he does not believe he is the one to blame for his lack of playing time. 'No, I don't feel that way. I feel like, if anything, I came back here for less money. I'm unselfish. I came back here, I worked hard off an Achilles injury, played through preseason, didn't ask for no days off. I don't know. I don't see where it could be my fault.'

Footballguys view: Davis could be a deep sleeper depending where he lands next year, but he has no future - or present - with Washington right now.

Redskins | Fred Davis has explanation for drop in PT    Wed Oct 30, 06:26 PM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis believes he's lost playing time to TE Jordan Reed for financial purposes. Davis has a $500,000 clause in his contract that is tied to the number of games he's active, and he's been listed as inactive three times this year, twice when healthy. Head coach Mike Shanahan denies that is a reason for the team straying from using Davis. TE Logan Paulsen, who is the team's best blocker, is even ahead of Davis on the tight end depth chart. 'I like it here. I was drafted here,' Davis said. 'But at the end of the day, I just want to play. If I can't play here, then I did want to play somewhere else.' Shanahan cites Davis' poor work ethic as one of the reasons he's lost playing time.

Redskins | Fred Davis hasn't asked for trade    Tue Oct 22, 09:09 PM

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis said in a radio interview Tuesday, Oct. 22, that he hasn't asked for a trade, but indicated he would not necessarily mind one either if it gave him a better chance to receive playing time. 'At the end of day, I look at it as I'm a Redskin right now until I hear differently,' Davis said. 'I want to help my team any way I can until then.'

Footballguys view: The team could have Davis on the trade block because of the emergence of rookie Jordan Reed. Injuries and inconsistencies have slowed Davis down this year and the team may be ready to move on.

Redskins | Looking to move Fred Davis    Mon Oct 21, 04:34 PM

Redskins | Fred Davis may be still dealing with injury    Sat Oct 19, 09:15 PM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (ankle) may not have played much in the last few games because there is a sense he is still bothered by his ankle injury.

Footballguys view: Davis was once a very promising fantasy TE, but all of the wind has gone out of his sails. We might have to wait until 2014 to see if he has the ability to be a top target from the tight end position, because rookie Jordan Reed appears to have overtaken him in the Redskins passing game.

Redskins | Fred Davis still dealing with ankle issue    Tue Oct 1, 12:24 PM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (ankle) did not play a lot in Week 4 because he is still dealing with ankle soreness. Davis did not practice leading up to the team's Week 4 game.

Footballguys view: Davis had fallen out of favor a bit with his play before the injury. Rookie Jordan Reed will get more targets so long as he is recovered from his thigh injury. Fantasy owners still clinging onto Davis should move on.

Footballguys view: It's plain to see that Davis has fallen out of favor with the coaching staff. Fantasy owners need to move on and look for TE depth elsewhere.

Washington Redskins TEs Fred Davis (ankle) and Jordan Reed (thigh) were each limited in practice Friday, Sept. 27, and both are considered questionable for the Week 4 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Redskins | Fred Davis still has soreness    Thu Sep 26, 10:37 PM

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (ankle) said his injured ankle is still sore. Davis has been limited during practice the last two days.

Footballguys view: Rookie Jordan Reed (thigh) is hurt and hasn't been practicing, so if he misses the game against the Raiders then Davis would see more snaps. Davis has been underwhelming this year but might still salvage some fantasy value if he can get healthy and focused.

Redskins | Fred Davis limited    Thu Sep 26, 07:24 PM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 26.

Redskins | Fred Davis has high ankle sprain    Wed Sep 25, 12:23 PM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (ankle) said he is dealing with a high ankle sprain but is planning to play Week 4.

Footballguys view: Bad news for Davis here. High ankle sprains are known to linger if not given proper time to heal. The injury could really slow down the veteran tight end. He's fallen out of favor this season and the team is looking to involve rookie Jordan Reed more.

Redskins | Fred Davis questionable    Sat Sep 21, 11:13 AM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (ankle) has been added to the injury report for Week 3 and is listed as questionable because of an ankle injury.

Footballguys view: We may see more of rookie Jordan Reed going forward. Davis was benched in Week 2 because of several missed assignments. Reed is a super sized WR and saw 29 snaps in Week 2, the most of any tight end on the roster.

Redskins | Jordan Reed evolving as tight end    Fri Sep 20, 05:16 PM

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed, who has caught eight passes in two games and is tied for second on the team in receptions, is looking for like the pass-catching tight end that the team drafted him as with extra practice time. Reed played the most snaps of any other tight end on the team (29) in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers and has only 10 fewer snaps than TE Fred Davis this year. Davis wasn't used as much in the second half last week in favor of Reed, but it's unclear if there will be a shift in playing time moving forward. 'It's something that will be week-to-week, game-to-game,' offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said. 'As the game went on, we felt we had a better chance with Jordan there in the second half.'

Footballguys view: Reed is still just a speculative bench TE right now, but with the Redskins set up to pass a lot to compensate for a terrible defense, he could approach high TE2/low TE1 numbers in PPR leagues in time.

Redskins | Fred Davis benched for errors    Wed Sep 18, 09:22 AM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis was benched in Week 2 because of several missed assignments. TE Jordan Reed entered the game and caught a touchdown pass. Reed played 29 snaps, which was the most of all the tight ends.

Footballguys view: Reed is an interesting rookie from Florida for dynasty owners to watch. He's not a blocker but has a WR-like skill set and can create mismatches when he's on the field. We'll see if Davis can get back into the good graces of the coaching staff.

Redskins | Fred Davis looking good    Thu Aug 15, 06:08 PM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis continues to look good this preseason, and head coach Mike Shanahan said he'll play roughly half of the preseason game Monday, Aug. 19.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Redskins (and fantasy owners) here. Davis is coming back from an Achilles' injury but is looking like the player he was pre-injury. We like him as a TE2 with upside in 2013. His current ADP is TE14 and he's coming off the board at 11.11 in 12 team PPR leagues.

Redskins | Fred Davis expected to play around a half    Wed Aug 14, 04:00 PM

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said TE Fred Davis (Achilles') likely will play around a half in the team's second preseason game. He said he is very encouraged with how Davis has looked during training camp.

Footballguys view: Davis is just one of many TEs with TE1 upside that you can get outside of the top 12. If you don't get a top five tight end, you might be just as well off going with a shotgun approach using multiple late picks, unless you are in a short bench league. Short bench leagues would favor a tight end "streaming" approach, where you use the waiver wire as an extension of your bench. Davis would be a solid pick to be act as your week 1 starter vs. the Eagles in week 1 in that scenario.

Redskins | Fred Davis ready to take next step    Thu Aug 8, 12:13 AM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (Achilles') is expected to play in the team's preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 8, against the Tennessee Titans. It will be his first game action since he ruptured his Achilles' tendon. Davis had surgery Oct. 24, 2012, to repair the injury.

Footballguys view: Davis is looking good coming back from this Achilles' injury according to camp reports. He makes for a good TE2 if you're going to go TEBC in your fantasy draft this year. His current ADP is TE14 and he's coming off the board at 12.04 in 12 team PPR leagues.

Redskins | Fred Davis impressing    Wed Jul 31, 08:30 AM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (Achilles') has flashed great speed and burned safeties on two separate impressive catches in camp. He said he feels great and has no soreness.

Footballguys view: Achilles' injuries aren't as scary as they used to be. Davis is a mid range TE2 with TE1 upside if he's healthy. His current ADP is TE17 and he's coming off the board at 13.05 in 12 team PPR leagues.

Redskins | Fred Davis expects to be limited    Fri Jul 26, 04:04 PM

Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (Achilles') said he expects to be limited during training camp after returning from a torn Achilles' last season. 'Since we have five tight ends, I think a lot of people are going to get a lot of reps,' Davis said. 'But at the same time, I think I'm going to get a lot of the first-team reps. I think the object will be for me to definitely ease myself back in but still play hard.' Davis said he feels 100 percent healthy.

Footballguys view: Davis is a good sleeper at TE2 because the Redskins don't have a strong wide receiver corps. He was the team's leading receiver when he went down last year, but Pierre Garcon had only played in one game at that point.
