Lions | Chase Daniel receiving trade interest Sun Mar 7, 11:30 PM
Detroit Lions QB Chase Daniel has been the focus of trade discussions with some teams in recent days in part because he is considered an ideal mentor for young quarterbacks, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Footballguys view: Lots of teams out there want a guy like Daniel on the roster. We'll see if the Lions move him as they don't really need a guy like him behind new starter Jared Goff. |

Lions | Detroit QBs struggle in Week 16 Sat Dec 26, 05:15 PM
Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle) went 2-for-3 for 17 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16, before he left the game because of an injury. QB Chase Daniel went 13-for-18 for 86 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions during the game, while QB David Blough went 6-for-10 for 49 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception.
Footballguys view: You know it's bad when three quarterbacks play in one game. Stafford was banged up going into the game, so many Fantasy GMs weren't starting many Lions skill position players. |

Chicago Bears impending free-agent QB Chase Daniel agreed to a three-year, $13.05 million deal with the Detroit Lions Tuesday, March 17. The deal includes a voidable clause.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky dealing with hip injury Mon Nov 18, 01:21 PM
Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (hip) suffered a right hip pointer when he was sacked at the end of the second quarter in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Rams, according to head coach Matt Nagy. Trubisky was pulled from the game late in favor of Chase Daniel, but Nagy insisted the move was made due to the injury.'Every decision that was made, it had zero to do with his play. It was completely based off his injury and where he was at,' Nagy said.
Footballguys view: Trubisky is the starter if he's healthy, but we'll see how long this hip injury lingers with him. Daniel is a seasoned veteran who has already started earlier this year when Trubisky was banged up. Adjust expectations for the Bears offense accordingly. |

Bears | Chase Daniel tosses two TDs in loss Sun Oct 6, 06:03 PM
Chicago Bears QB Chase Daniel completed 22-of-30 passes for 231 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 5 against the Oakland Raiders in London.
Footballguys view: Daniel didn't play well in this one and certainly won't be creating any quarterback controversy over the bye while Mitchell Trubisky mends from a shoulder injury. The Bears fell behind and had to rely on the pass to get back in the game or it might have been a complete dud from Daniel. |

Bears | Chase Daniel eyeing backup gig Sat Jun 29, 10:32 PM
Chicago Bears QB Chase Daniel is the favorite to win the backup quarterback job, according to Adam L. Jahns of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Daniel was serviceable as the starter last year when Mitchell Trubisky went down, going 1-1 and throwing for at least 230 yards and a score in each game. The biggest winner if he ends up having to start this year will be Tarik Cohen, based on who Daniel favored last year. Cohen had 19 catches for 201 yards and a score in those games. |

Bears | Chase Daniel could be cap casualty Sat Feb 23, 03:53 PM
Chicago Bears QB Chase Daniel could be released this offseason since the team would save $3 million in salary cap space.
Footballguys view: Daniel has a $6 million cap hit in 2019, the final year of his contract. There is $3 million remaining in dead money on Daniel's deal. The Bears could find a quarterback in the later rounds of the 2019 NFL draft to compete as a backup or developmental quarterback. Daniel fits well with Matt Nagy as he has worked under his guidance for years, dating back to their time working together with the Chiefs. |

Jets | Chase Daniel an option for Gang Green? Sun Mar 5, 12:21 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Chase Daniel could be the 'best possible option' for the New York Jets, according to NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes.
Footballguys view: Daniel has an $8 million cap number this year with $7 million remaining in dead money. That number would actually be a bargain compared to what guys like Mike Glennon is going to get on the open market. However, Daniel still belongs to the Eagles and the Jets would have to trade for him in order to acquire him. |

Eagles | Chase Daniel will start at QB in Philly Sat Sep 3, 10:55 AM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Chase Daniel will be the starting quarterback for the Eagles after the team traded QB Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings.
Footballguys view: Don't expect the Daniel era to last that long in Philadelphia. Rookie first-round pick Carson Wentz is going to start sooner rather than later. It's no guarantee that Daniel is going to be the starter Week 1 against the Browns if Wentz's rib injury checks out. |

Eagles | Carson Wentz to play a lot Thursday Mon Aug 8, 05:41 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz will receive most of the snaps in the second half of the preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, Aug. 11. QBs Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel will play in the first half, while QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson could receive one or two series in the fourth quarter.
Footballguys view: There's a lot to like about Wentz. He's a strong leader and the type of player who can rally a team around him. Wentz does a good job of going through progressions and staying aggressive with his reads. The rookie will have some growing pains and is unlikely to see the field much in the regular season so long as Bradford stays healthy. |

Eagles | Sam Bradford most accurate in camp Fri Aug 5, 01:35 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford has 'easily been the most accurate quarterback of the three, as well as the most consistent on a day-to-day basis.' Unlike QBs Carson Wentz and Chase Daniel, Bradford is yet to have a 'clear and obvious clunker' through 10 practices.
Footballguys view: Bradford is good enough to hold down a job over poor competition, but can't distinguish himself beyond that. This is setting up to be an uninspiring offense in 2016. Bradford is only worth a pick in superflex and 2QB leagues. |

Eagles | Philly QBs splitting time in training camp Fri Jul 29, 08:42 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QBs Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel and Carson Wentz will split reps evenly at the beginning of training camp, according to head coach Doug Pederson.
Footballguys view: This quarterback situation is a mess, and it could lead to offensive instability during the season. Bradford is getting paid starter money, but he seems to have one foot out of the door since Wentz was drafted. Wentz is coming from a small school at North Dakota State and probably not ready for NFL regular season action yet. Daniel is limited backup, but the team could be forced to turn to him if Bradford's season goes south. It's hard to expect this passing game to outperform expectations this year. |

Eagles | Sam Bradford working out with teammates Wed Jul 6, 06:30 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford is working out with several of his teammates in San Diego leading up to training camp. QBs Chase Daniel and Carson Wentz, RB Darren Sproles, WR Jordan Matthews, Josh Huff, T.J. Graham and Rueben Randle and TE Zach Ertz are among the players participating in the workouts.
Footballguys view: Bradford is doing what he can to build chemistry in this new offense with this group. We're not overly excited by the Doug Pederson offense in Philadelphia, so Bradford should only be considered a QB3 for fantasy owners. He set to be the starter this year as rookie first-round pick Carson Wentz is likely to get a year of development in 2016. However, if Bradford struggles (not a stretch) then we could see the team turn to the rookie sooner than originally planned. |

Eagles | Carson Wentz the No. 3 QB? Sun Jun 26, 08:03 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz might not even dress on game days, and QB Chase Daniel would likely take over as the starter if QB Sam Bradford goes down, according to beat writer Jimmy Kempski.
Footballguys view: Wentz is coming from the FCS level, so the change in the speed of the game will be even more pronounced, and the team is paying Bradford and Daniel a lot of money this year. The Eagles have no incentive to rush Wentz and would be smart to be patient unless both Bradford and Daniel crater. |

Eagles | Philly quarterbacks should split reps Wed Jun 8, 03:36 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QBs Sam Bradford, Carson Wentz and Chase Daniel will receive equal repetitions heading into training camp, according to head coach Doug Pederson. Pederson said Bradford likely won't take more reps than Wentz and Daniel until late in the preseason when starters usually ramp up their workload.
Footballguys view: What in the world are the Eagles doing? First, they screwed up the QB market by overpaying both Bradford and Daniel. Now, they're going to give them all equal reps? Wow...um, okay Pederson if you say so. It's a new system and a new direction for the Eagles since the franchise struggled under former head coach Chip Kelly. One would assume that a starting QB would get as many first-team reps as possible, but not here....or at least not right now. At least we know that Wentz is the future of the team at the QB position, and he's got the upside to eventually be a top-12 QB in the NFL. |

Eagles | No QB order set in Philly Wed May 25, 02:33 PM
Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich said that the order set with QB Sam Bradford as the No. 1, QB Chase Daniel as the backup and QB Carson Wentz as the third guy is 'probably not the right impression.' 'But the other thing that -- as coaches -- that you've got to establish is a culture of competition. This is one of the most competitive industries in the world and so, to say that there's not competition, that's just the furthest thing from the truth.'
Footballguys view: Reich needs to be cautious with what he says so Bradford doesn't get upset. Of course no order has been set. Bradford SHOULD be the starter for Week 1 as the team has indicated they'd like Wentz to sit and devlop. However, if Wentz shows that he's better in camp then we could see their future franchise QB take over early this year...perhaps even Week 1. |

Eagles | Sam Bradford works with first-team Wed May 18, 12:47 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford worked with the first-team offense during organized team activities Tuesday, May 17, with QB Chase Daniel taking repetitions with the second-team and QB Carson Wentz with the third-team. 'I've actually talked to Sam since he's back,' head coach Doug Pederson said, 'and I told him: My feelings haven't changed. He's my guy. He's the No. 1 guy. I want him to embrace that and not look backward. Look forward.'
Footballguys view: Bradford has to prove to his teammates and the fans that he's willing to work for the job, especially after his hissy fit post-draft. Wentz is raw, but the future, so Bradford is also auditioning for his next potential starting gig. |

Eagles | Philly to pay high price for quarterbacks Wed Apr 20, 03:09 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QBs Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel and likely one of North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz or California QB Jared Goff will cost the Eagles more than $42 million. Bradford is due $18 million, Daniel is due $7 million and Wentz or Goff will be due at least $16 million, including a signing bonus.
Footballguys view: With as much money as they will be paying out, the front office had better be right about their selections. We think Bradford gets the start only to be supplanted by the rookie somewhere near the end of the season. That said, given how many picks the team gave up, if the new quarterback isn't the answer, they could be set back for a long time. |

Eagles | Sam Bradford playing for his future Wed Apr 6, 11:27 PM
Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford will likely be getting a one-year look from the team, as he is guaranteed only $4 million in the second year of his current deal. He got better as the season progressed in 2015, but the team visited the top quarterbacks in this year's draft, and inked QB Chase Daniel to a three-year, $21 million contract as a backup plan. The team can get out of Bradford's deal if it doesn't work out for $22 million total, and some team is likely to sign Bradford for $4 million in 2017 if he is released, offsetting a $4 million loss.
Footballguys view: Bradford has had many chances and the short term nature of the deal makes you wonder what his real chances are. The biggest key is just staying healthy, something which has been an issue his entire career. |
