Panthers | Corral showed significant strides in OTAs    Sat Jul 1, 02:49 PM

Joseph Person, of The Athletic, reports that QB Matt Corral showed "significant strides" in OTAs according to head coach Frank Reich. Person projects Corral to make the team as the #3 quarterback behind #1 pick Bryce Young and Andy Dalton.

Footballguys view: This is important because Corral was drafted before Reich was the head coach. The Panthers gave up a 2022 fourth and 2023 third-round pick to get Corral, so they won't move on from him unless his development stalls out after missing 2022 with a foot injury. It doesn't sound like that is happening, so players in superflex dynasty leagues should keep tabs on Corral even though Andy Dalton is signed to a two-year deal with $8 million guaranteed, likely keeping him on the roster through next season. Corral has running ability to boost his potential future fantasy value. If Young's small stature dooms him to durability issues, Corral could be seeing the field before the end of his rookie deal.

Panthers | Bryce Young, Andy Dalton split work    Tue May 23, 01:17 AM

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young and QB Andy Dalton both received work with the first-team offense during practice Monday, May 22.

Footballguys view: This is what we expected from early on in Panthers' camp. As the summer rolls along, we should see Young get more of the work. They're not just going to hand him the job, but Young has shown a tremendous grasp of the offense so far and he's cleary the quarterback of the future.

Panthers | Andy Dalton to open as QB1?    Sun May 14, 10:30 AM

Carolina Panthers QB Andy Dalton will work with the first-team offense when summer OTAs begin, according to head coach Frank Reich.

Footballguys view: Dalton is there to begin the offseason workouts as the starter, but he may not be in that seat for long. The Panthers moved up to no.1 overall in the 2023 NFL draft so they could take Alabama QB Bryce Young. He's been impressing HC Frank Reich so far in rookie minicamp, and everyone knows that Young is the future of the franchise. Dalton is fine as a starter, but Young has tremendous upside in this league. The Panthers are likely to turn things over to him sooner rather than later.

Saints | Andy Dalton has decent outing    Sun Jan 8, 04:40 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton went 15-for-25 for 171 yards and one touchdown against the Carolina Panthers in Week 18.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Dalton did not fill the air with footballs as the Saints' starter for most of this season. He only had one game over 300 yards passing, and that was back in Week 7. Dalton will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and some teams should have him in mind as a veteran backup.

Saints | Andy Dalton to remain the starter    Mon Dec 12, 01:11 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton has 'done some good things' and will remain the starting quarterback over Jameis Winston in Week 15 versus the Atlanta Falcons, according to head coach Dennis Allen.

Footballguys view: But of course Dalton will remain the starter - it's Dennis Allen! The Saints' head coach loves consistency and well, Dalton seems to give him that. Dalton completed 20-of-28 passes for 229 yards and one touchdown in the Saints' 17-16, Week 13 loss to the Buccaneers. We'll see if the team can get on the winning track coming out of their bye.

Saints | Andy Dalton throws three touchdowns    Sun Nov 20, 05:26 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton went 21-for-25 for 260 yards and three touchdowns against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 11.

Footballguys view: The decision to keep Dalton at quarterback was widely criticized, but Dalton responded with his best game of the season and likely bought himself at least a few more weeks as the starter. He'll try to hang with Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers next week.

Saints | Andy Dalton to receive another start    Wed Nov 16, 03:26 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton will be the starting quarterback for the Saints in Week 11.

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton went 17-for-27 for 174 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10.

Footballguys view: The Saints offense was supposed to be safer with Dalton, but the turnovers are still coming. We'll see if Dennis Allen reconsiders his quarterback decision before next week's game against the Rams.

Saints | Andy Dalton plays well    Sun Oct 30, 04:22 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton went 22-for-30 for 229 yards and two touchdowns against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8.

Footballguys view: Dalton was throwing short passes and Alvin Kamara did the rest in this one. After his big Week 7 (including two pick sixes), Dalton had more of a game manager job in this one, but Kamara's run after catch ability made it a solid fantasy start. Dalton's hold on the starting job should be firmer after the job appeared to be up in the air going into this week.

Saints | Andy Dalton throws for four scores in Week 7    Fri Oct 21, 12:09 AM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton completed 30 of 47 passes for 361 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions (two of which were returned for touchdowns) during the team's Week 7 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He also ran for 21 yards on four carries.

Footballguys view: Dalton really threw six touchdown passes, as the Cardinals returned two of the interceptions for scores. That created a come from behind game script to boost his second half numbers, although he already had over 150 yards and two scores through the air in the first half before throwing two pick sixes in quick succession. Dalton might have been in over Jameis Winston because he is usually safer with the football, but this was a classic Winston game for Dalton. We have no idea who will start for the Saints agains the Raiders next week.

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton is in line to start the Week 7 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network on Thursday, Oct. 20

Footballguys view: Saints' head coach Dennis Allen has not yet named a starter for Thursday night against the Cardinals. Allen is likely to play it safe with Dalton over Jameis Winston. If Dalton struggles, it sounds like Winston could supplant him and retake his starting job.

Saints | Saints' starting QB a game-time decision    Wed Oct 19, 02:56 PM

The New Orleans Saints' starting quarterback decision will be made at game time on Thursday night, head coach Dennis Allen said on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Footballguys view: Oh that tricky Allen! The Saints are keeping us guessing as to whether they're starting Jameis Winston or Andy Dalton against a bad Cardinals defense. The starter will be fantasy relevant in Week 7 for Fantasy GMs in superflex leagues...because the Cardinals defense is just so bad.

Saints | Andy Dalton throws for 162 yards    Sun Oct 16, 05:26 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton went 17-for-32 for 162 yards and one touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6.

Footballguys view: Dalton wasn't terrible, but his offense had to settle for field goals way too often, and he didn't really give the team a chance to win on their final drive. Dennis Allen has a lot to think about as Jameis Winston is getting healthy and neither quarterback has really staked a strong claim to the starting job. We may not know who is starting at Arizona next week until game time.

Saints | Andy Dalton could keep QB job    Sun Oct 16, 11:09 AM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton has a chance to keep the starting job even when QB Jameis Winston (ankle, back) returns to full health.

Footballguys view: Dalton is safer with the ball and Dennis Allen probably prefers that. If the Saints beat the Bengals today, expect Dalton to start at Arizona next week.

Saints | Andy Dalton to start Week 6's game    Sat Oct 15, 08:41 AM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton will be the starter for Week 6's game versus the Cincinnati Bengals, according to head coach Dennis Allen.

Footballguys view: No surprise here as Jameis Winston needs more time to heal. Dalton goes up against his former team, but we're not expecting much 'revenge' from the veteran quarterback in terms of passing yards. Instead, the Saints will likely lean on RB Alvin Kamara, TE Taysom Hill, and sprinkle in some WR Chris Olave.

Saints | Andy Dalton in line to start    Fri Oct 7, 11:08 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton is expected to start against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5, head coach Dennis Allen said Friday, Oct. 7.

Footballguys view: No surprise here, as Dalton gets another starting nod with Jameis Winston banged up. Dalton completed 20-of-28 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' 28-25, Week 4 loss to the Vikings. He should be able to post better numbers this week against an inexperienced Seahawks defense.

Saints | Andy Dalton could start again in Week 5    Tue Oct 4, 12:51 AM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton could start again in Week 5 against the Seattle Seahawks, but head coach Dennis Allen said Monday, Oct. 3, that it depends on the status of QB Jameis Winston (back, ankle), and he had no information on Winston's status.

Footballguys view: This could be the plan for Allen as he doesn't want to rush Winston back. Dalton completed 20-of-28 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' 28-25, Week 4 loss to the Vikings. If Dalton wants to get the team on the winning track, he needs to take care of the football better and try to attack downfield a little bit more than he did last time out.

Saints | Andy Dalton has decent outing    Sun Oct 2, 01:02 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton went 20-for-28 for 236 yards and one touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4.

Footballguys view: Dalton didn't make any big mistakes and even though it was a more boring brand of offense, this was probably the best whole game offensive performance for the Saints this season. Dalton didn't get the win, but he at least planted the seed of the possibility that he's a better choice to lead the offense than Winston.

Saints | Jameis Winston running the show in 2022    Thu Mar 31, 03:28 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Andy Dalton indicated to reporters Thursday, March 31, that Jameis Winston will start in 2022.'This is Jameis' thing and I'm here to help him out any way I can,' Dalton said.

Footballguys view: Dalton was signed to the Saints to give them a good backup. The move puts former quarterback Taysom Hill at the tight end position, and it's clear that Winston is in the driver's seat as the starter. With Winston returning from the knee injury that cut short his 2021 season, Dalton should get plenty of work with the first team during OTAs, minicamp and training camp.

Free-agent QB Andy Dalton (Bears) agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with the New Orleans Saints Tuesday, March 29. He's guaranteed $3 million.

Bears | Chicago drops final regular season game    Sun Jan 9, 04:16 PM

Chicago Bears QB Andy Dalton went 33-for-48 for 325 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18. RB David Montgomery rushed for 72 yards on 20 carries and caught two passes for seven yards. WR Darnell Mooney caught 12 passes for 126 yards on 16 targets. TE Cole Kmet caught four passes for 48 yards on five targets. WR Damiere Byrd caught five passes for 47 yards on six targets, while WR Allen Robinson caught two passes for 22 yards on four targets.

Footballguys view: The biggest story for the Bears is whether Matt Nagy will be fired, and we assume he will be. Dalton showed he still belongs as a backup this year, but will be looking for work in free agency. Montgomery will likely be the workhorse, but Khalil Herbert could endear himself to a new regime. Mooney went over 1000 yards, which is incredible in this pass offense in only his second year. Kmet's numbers are better than they look for the same reason. Robinson will hopefully get out of quarterback hell in free agency after a lost season.
