NFL | Victor Cruz retires Tue Aug 21, 10:25 AM
Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) announced his retirement Tuesday, Aug. 21.
Footballguys view: Cruz was quite the fantasy factor at his best. Undrafted out of UMASS in 2010, Cruz posted WR1 numbers in 2011 and 2012. Injuries hit in 2013, and he never was the same after that. Cruz will most be remembered for salsa dancing his way into hearts across America. Reports indicate the broadcast booth is next for Cruz. |

NFL | Victor Cruz still looking to play Wed May 9, 10:44 AM
Updating previous reports, free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Bears) said he'll wait until around training camp for a team to sign him before he retires.
Footballguys view: Back in 2011, Cruz was salsa dancing his way into the hearts of fantasy owners with a 1,500-plus yard season (and nine touchdowns). It's never been the same after that. Cruz's career was knocked off track by a serious knee injury and subsequent calf injuries. He didn't play a snap last year after getting released by the Bears before Week 1. We think his playing days are done. |

Bears | Victor Cruz does not make team Fri Sep 1, 05:33 PM
Chicago Bears WR Victor Cruz was released Friday, Sept. 1, according to a source.
Footballguys view: This cements Kendall Wright as the slot receiver and worth a late-round pick after Cameron Meredith went down. |

Bears | Victor Cruz leaves game Thu Aug 31, 10:18 PM
Chicago Bears WR Victor Cruz (knee) suffered a knee injury during the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 31.
Footballguys view: Cruz had a good start to camp and he still has a slim chance to make the team now that Cameron Meredith is out for the season, but he is clearly behind Kendall Wright in the slot and he might even be behind UDFA Tanner Gentry. |

Bears | Victor Cruz unlikely to make team Wed Aug 30, 12:05 PM
Chicago Bears WR Victor Cruz doesn't appear to have a very good chance of making the 53-man roster, as Kendall Wright is a better choice for the slot role in Chicago right now, according to the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.
Footballguys view: It's a sign of how far Cruz's game has fallen off. The Bears don't have a strong WR corps and their best player at the position, Cameron Meredith, is out for the year with a knee injury. We may have seen Cruz's last salsa dance in the NFL. |

Bears | Victor Cruz working out of slot Thu Jun 29, 09:26 PM
Chicago Bears WR Victor Cruz worked mainly out of the slot during OTAs, and he said playing a position he is comfortable with helped him find a rhythm.
Footballguys view: An interesting note here...and a wise move by the Bears. Cruz saw his best years coming out of the slot, but the Giants moved him to the outside last year. In 2016, only one of Cruz's 39 receptions came from him lining up in the slot as it was then rookie Sterling Shepard taking over inside. It will be interesting to see how the Bears use him behind Cameron Meredith, Kevin White and Kendall Wright in 2017. |

Bears | Evaluating Chicago's WRs Mon Jun 5, 09:43 AM
Chicago Bears WRs Cameron Meredith (thumb), Kevin White and Markus Wheaton (shoulder) are considered locks to make the 53-man roster, in the opinion of Chicago Tribune writer Dan Wiederer. WRs Victor Cruz, Kendall Wright, Josh Bellamy, Deonte Thompson and Daniel Braverman are considered to be on the bubble. WRs Tanner Gentry, Rueben Randle and Titus Davis are viewed as long shots for the final roster.
Footballguys view: Meredith and potentially White have fantasy value, but there's not much else that gets us excited here. Wheaton couldn't stay healthy or impress during his time with the Steelers. Cruz is a great story (and a great dancer) but not a great fantasy asset. We're a bit intrigued by Gentry in super deep dynasty leagues as his 49 targets of 20 yards or more in 2016 led the FBS (per PFF). That's about it really...and don't expect the Bears passing game to light the world on fire no matter if Mike Glennon or Mitchell Trubisky is the starter at quarterback. |

Bears | Victor Cruz joins Bears Thu May 25, 02:22 PM
Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) is signing a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears Thursday, May 25. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Cruz actually could have an impact with the Bears if he has even an ounce of gas left in the tank. Kevin White is always hurt and other than Markus Wheaton, there's nobody else there who seems like they have promise behind White and Cameron Meredith. Mind you, Cruz looked done last season with the New York Giants, so buyer beware. |

Browns | Cleveland has considered Victor Cruz Mon May 22, 07:15 PM
Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson said the team has discussed the possibility of adding free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) but indicated they are not looking to sign Cruz at this time.
Footballguys view: Cruz is getting some interest...just a bit...around the league. We imagine he'll find a new team sometime around training camp. |

Bears | Victor Cruz's Bears visit continues Tue May 16, 09:19 AM
Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) is continuing to meet with the Chicago Bears Tuesday, May 16.
Footballguys view: The Bears may have interest in Cruz as a veteran who could fill the role vacated by Eddie Royal. They've added some questionable talents earlier this year at wide receiver, including Markus Wheaton and Kendall Wright. Cruz isn't the same player he used to be, but perhaps he'd find a spot on the WR-needy Bears roster. |

Panthers | Victor Cruz happy with Carolina visit Mon Feb 20, 07:57 PM
Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) said his visit with the Carolina Panthers Monday, Feb. 20, went well.
Footballguys view: No deal is imminent at this point, but it appears there is mutual interest between Cruz and the Panthers. Cruz does not have any other visits scheduled at this point. |

Panthers | Victor Cruz visited Panthers Mon Feb 20, 03:13 PM
Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) visited the Carolina Panthers over the weekend, according to a source. A deal is not imminent and Cruz is expected to speak with at least one other team.
Footballguys view: Cruz's best landing spot may be the Panthers. The team could use a third receiver to work the underneath routes. He'd basically be fourth in the pecking order when adding star tight end Greg Olsen to the conversation. No matter where he lands, Cruz is unlikely to be a fantasy factor in 2017. |
Ravens | Baltimore unlikely to look at Victor Cruz Sat Feb 18, 02:21 PM
Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) probably will not be an option for the Baltimore Ravens this offseason unless he is willing to sign for the veteran minimum, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley.
Footballguys view: The Ravens need an upgrade at the position, but they're likely to look for younger players in free agency or just add more WR talent in the 2017 NFL draft. |

Panthers | Victor Cruz could fit in Carolina Sat Feb 18, 01:03 AM
Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) could be pursued by the Carolina Panthers, according to beat writer David Newton. General manager Dave Gettleman has a connection with Cruz from his time with the New York Giants, and Cruz would fill Carolina's need for a slot receiver.
Footballguys view: Cruz might have a few looks on the open market, and the Panthers might be his best opportunity. They need weapons in the passing game, and Cruz showed he could still work the underneath routes in 2016. |

Broncos | Broncos plan to meet with Victor Cruz Tue Feb 14, 11:17 PM
The Denver Broncos are 'working' to meet with free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants).

NFL | Victor Cruz probably done, says scout Mon Feb 13, 11:50 PM
Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) is 'probably done,' according to one NFL scout.
Footballguys view: Cruz may get signed by some team in need of veteran depth, but he's likely to be signing a "prove it" deal no matter where he lands. Once Cruz finds a new team, there's no guarantee he'll make the 53-man roster. Evaluators may think he's "probably done" and they're probably right. |

Giants | Victor Cruz to be cut Mon Feb 13, 12:48 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz will be released Monday, Feb. 13, according to a source.
Footballguys view: This was a no-brainer decision for the Giants. Cruz counted $9.4 million against the cap, and releasing him frees up $7.5 million in cap space. Cruz played in 15 games in 2016, collecting 39 passes for 586 yards and one touchdown. He should get a bit of interest on the open market. |

Giants | Victor Cruz uncertain about return Tue Jan 31, 12:01 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz wants to play out the final two years of his contract with the team, but he admits the 'ball is in (the Giants') court' when it comes to sticking around. Cruz has a $9.4 million salary cap hit next season and will likely need to take a pay cut for the second straight season in order to stay. Cruz agreed to reduce his base salary from $7.9 million to $1.3 million for the 2016 season.
Footballguys view: Cruz was only a small contributor in 2016, and it's possible that UDFA Roger Lewis will completely overtake him as the #3 receiver with more development this offseason. His time on our fantasy radar is probably over even though his return from a patellar tendon blowout was inspiring and surprising. |

Giants | Victor Cruz may be cap casualty Thu Jan 12, 01:52 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz could be a cap casualty this offseason because the team would save $7.5 million in salary cap space if he is released. He is currently scheduled to count $9.4 million against the 2017 salary cap.
Footballguys view: Perhaps Cruz can re-work his deal to stay with the Giants. If he's on the open market, there should be a few teams interested. |

Giants | Victor Cruz wants to remain in New York Mon Jan 9, 12:23 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz finished the season with 39 receptions for 586 yards and one touchdown after missing most of the previous two years with knee and calf injuries.
Footballguys view: It was great to see Cruz back in action, but his future with the Giants is up in the air. He wants to return, but he is slated to make $6.4 million (and count $9.4 million against the cap) in 2017. |

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz played 26 snaps (43 percent of the offense) Sunday, Dec. 5.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (ankle) has been removed from the injury report ahead of his team's Week 11 tilt Sunday, Nov. 20, against the Chicago Bears. He was a limited participant in practice Friday, Nov. 18.
Footballguys view: Cruz is slated to return this week, which slightly dampens the outlook for Sterling Shepard, but enhances Eli Manning as a streaming QB play. |
Giants | Full practice for Victor Cruz Thu Nov 17, 01:40 PM
Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 17. Offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan said Cruz was moving around well during practice.
Footballguys view: Cruz is back, but we don't think he cuts into time/targets for rookie WR Sterling Shepard. We like Shepard as a WR4/flex play against the Bears in Week 11. |

Giants | Victor Cruz should practice Thursday Tue Nov 15, 05:00 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (ankle) is expected to return to practice Thursday, Nov. 17, according to head coach Ben McAdoo.

Giants | Victor Cruz ruled out for MNF Mon Nov 14, 02:21 PM
Updating a previous story, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (ankle) will not play in Week 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Footballguys view: We knew this was happening, so nothing much has changed in the last few hours. Odell Beckham Jr is the WR1 play and Sterling Shepard is a WR3 with upside. |

Giants | Victor Cruz likely a no-go for MNF Mon Nov 14, 12:52 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (ankle) is not expected to play Monday, Nov. 14, to end Week 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals. While Cruz was encouraged by how his ankle felt during treatment this week, the team is reportedly choosing to play it cautious.
Footballguys view: That just means more for Odell Beckham Jr, who we have as a WR1 play. We also think rookie Sterling Shepard will get some extra work, and could be very successful given that all the attention will be towards Beckham. Shepard is listed as a low-end WR3, but he could have a much higher ceiling. |

Giants | Victor Cruz likely out Mon Nov 14, 10:06 AM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (ankle) is unlikely to play in Week 10 Monday, Nov. 14. WR Roger Lewis will likely fill in for Cruz.
Footballguys view: We figured this would be the case, and it only makes Odell Beckham Jr a better start as a WR1, since Eli Manning will have even more reason to focus on his main receiver. Keep an eye on Sterling Shepard though, as he could outperform his WR3 status since Cincinnati's attention will be on Beckham Jr. |

Giants | Victor Cruz questionable for MNF Sat Nov 12, 01:29 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (ankle) has yet to participate in practice this week and is listed as questionable for Week 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Footballguys view: Fantasy owners have better options out there. Even if Cruz was healthy, he'd only be a 'what the heck' flex. Look for rookie WR Sterling Shepard to do more with Cruz limited or out on Monday night. We've got Shepard as a WR3 for fantasy owners this week. |

Giants | Victor Cruz shouldn't be out long Tue Nov 8, 04:06 PM
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (ankle) said he might miss just one game after suffering a low-grade right ankle sprain in Week 9.
