Footballguys view: This may be the last we hear from Jonathan 'Straight Outta' Crompton. He was an All Pro for the Black Eyed Joe All Nickname Team but isn't going to stick in the pros. |

Buccaneers | Jonathan Crompton agrees to terms Fri Aug 5, 01:36 PM
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to terms with free-agent QB Jonathan Crompton (Patriots) on a three-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Crompton was highly touted by a few draft experts including Russ Lande, but this will make his third team in just over one year in the league. Still, he was signed to a three-year deal, so this could be a sign that the team is planning for Josh Johnson's departure in free agency next year. |

Patriots | Hoyer not bothered by selection of QB Mallett Sat May 21, 12:45 PM
Mike Reiss, from ESPNBoston.com, reports veteran backup QB Brian Hoyer is not bothered by the Patriots selection of Ryan Mallett in the third-round of the 2011 NFL Draft. "It's always good to have competition," said Hoyer, who served as Tom Brady's top backup in 2009 and 2010. "Obviously, Ryan was a big-time college player. He has a great arm. It will be fun for me to compete with him, and also to compete with Tom and Jonathan [Crompton]."
Footballguys view: Hoyer is a fiery competitor who may be able to hold off Mallett this season. Some see Mallett as the future for New England, while others are convinced that he'll be developed then traded for draft picks. Mallett has an elite skill set as a passer, so we'll see if he can give Hoyer a run for his money in training camp. |

Patriots | Depth at quarterback Fri Apr 29, 09:56 PM
New England Patriots rookie QB Ryan Mallett will be able to sit buried on the depth chart and be afforded time to learn the system. QB Tom Brady is firmly entrenched as the starter, and Brian Hoyer has shown promise as his backup. The Patriots also have Jonathan Crompton, who was a fifth-round selection in 2010, on the roster. Hoyer is entering the final year of his contract, so if he plays well during the preseason the Patriots could look to shop him to another team if there is interest around the NFL.
Footballguys view: Mallett, Crompton, Hoyer: It's a depth chart full of potential trading pieces and once again the Pats seem to be looking ahead as well as to present day. Of the three, Mallett has the greatest upside. |

Patriots | Jonathan Crompton signs Tue Nov 2, 10:23 PM
The New England Patriots signed free-agent QB Jonathan Crompton (Chargers) to their practice squad Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Footballguys view: Crompton was a fast-rising prospect at one time this spring, but the Chargers cut him after drafting him in the fifth round. The Patriots track record of evaluating and developing late-round QBs is better than most organizations, so this deserves to be filed away in deep dynasty leagues. |

Chargers | Jonathan Crompton signed Wed Jun 2, 03:18 PM
The San Diego Chargers have signed fifth round draft choice QB Jonathan Crompton to a four-year deal, according to Adam Schefter, of ESPN. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: The rookie quarterback, Jonathan 'City of' Crompton, has already made the Black Eyed Joe All-Nickname Team. We love the upside of Crompton, who flashed big time ability for one season under Lane Kiffin at Tennessee. While he'll never unseat Philip Rivers, he could develop into a fine backup quarterback. If Crompton reaches his potential he could end up starting for another team down the road. |

Cecil Lammey, NFL Insider for Lincoln Financial Media, has learned the New Orleans Saints held a private workout with University of Tennessee QB Jonathan Crompton Friday, April 16.
Footballguys view: Crompton has scouts around the league wondering if he was just a one-year wonder at Tennessee. He struggled through his college career until last season when he was under the guidance of head coach Lane Kiffin. Crompton flourished and proved that he could be a good college quarterback. He continued his good play with an outstanding performance at the 2010 Texas vs The Nation Game. If the Saints drafted Crompton in the third-round he could immediately step in as the backup behind Drew Brees. Crompton has the skill set to develop into a starting caliber NFL quarterback. |

Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers hosted University of Tennessee QB Jonathan "City of" Crompton on an official draft visit Tuesday, April 13, and Wednesday, April 14.
Footballguys view: Crompton's draft stock is rising quickly and he may go as high as the second-round now. Scouts love all the physical tools he has, but wonder if he's more than a one-year wonder. Crompton struggled most of his college career until he hooked up with head coach Lane Kiffin during his final season. |

NFL | Crompton scheduled to meet with two more teams Mon Apr 5, 04:30 PM
University of Tennessee QB Jonathan "City Of" Crompton is scheduled to meet with the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers.
Footballguys view: Crompton is an intriguing prospect out to prove that he's more than a one-year wonder. He struggled during most of his career at Tennessee, but flourished his final season under head coach Lane Kiffin. He has all the tools that scouts are looking for, and there are some who like him better than every quarterback in this draft class except Sam Bradford. |

Aaron Wilson, of the National Football Post, reports University of Tennessee QB Jonathan "City of" Crompton is scheduled to meet with the Seattle Seahawks, San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Some in the scouting community see Crompton as more than a one year wonder. He flourished in his final season with the Volunteers, and his only season with head coach Lane Kiffin. Our very own Cecil Lammey saw Crompton up close during the week of practice at the Texas vs The Nation Game and came away impressed. Crompton has good size, arm strength, and athleticism to make plays on the run. He's a developmental quarterback with high upside. |
