Bengals | Three players released    Sun Sep 4, 02:17 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals have released WR Quan Cosby, TE Chase Coffman and OL Reggie Stephens.

Footballguys view: Coffman looked like a natural passcatcher at Missouri, but his injury problems and overall lack of athleticism seems to have held him back. Cosby is a good utility WR/return man, so he'll probably find work soon.

Bengals | Two WRs working at CB    Wed Nov 24, 10:19 AM

Cincinnati Bengals WRs Jordan Shipley and Quan Cosby have been working at cornerback during practice because they could be used in an emergency due to the injuries the team has in its secondary, reports Kevin Goheen, of The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Footballguys view: Both receivers played at the University of Texas, and are extremely gifted athletes. Cosby is mostly used in the return game, while Shipley is a young receiver who could become a star if he plays up to his potential.

Bengals | Four to compete for final two WR spots    Mon Jul 19, 05:48 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WRs Jerome Simpson, Matt Jones, Dezmon Briscoe and Quan Cosby will compete for the final two wide receiver spots on the roster during training camp, reports Joe Reedy, of The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Footballguys view: Simpson has been a disappointment ever since he was a second-round draft pick in 2008 out of Coastal Carolina. Matt Jones is trying to make a comeback after spending last season out of the league. Briscoe is an athletic rookie, but is merely a deep threat as he's afraid to run routes over the middle. Cosby is the least athletically gifted out of this group, but gets by on his moxie, work ethic, and special teams ability.

Bengals | Cosby wants to be more than a return man    Thu Jul 15, 12:05 PM

Carlos 'Big C' Holmes, from the Dayton Daily News, reports Quan Cosby, an undrafted WR out of Texas, made a good impression in his first year returning kicks for Cincinnati last season. This year, not only will he be competing for a roster spot as a returner, he also has aspirations of playing slot receiver.

Footballguys view: Cosby has always been doubted, dating back to his days in college, but he always finds a way to get on the field and make plays. He'll have to be patient if he wants more playing time as a receiver, as Cincinnati has a jam packed WR corps. The main battle for the slot receiver will be between Andre 'Bubba' Caldwell and rookie Jordan Shipley. We like Shipley to win that competition, but Cosby is a quality reserve player who will be ready if injuries strike in front of him.

Bengals | More options in the return game    Thu Jun 3, 12:47 PM

Joe Reedy, from the Cincinnati Enquirer, notes special teams coach Darrin Simmons felt good about the future of his return game at the end of last year. After adding some more firepower during the offseason, he has even more options. "This is probably the best that I felt since I've been here," Simmons said. Even with some new options on kickoffs and punts, Simmons did stress one thing -- Quan Cosby and Bernard Scott are not ready to give up their spots.

Footballguys view: The Bengals grabbed WR Jordan Shipley in the 2010 NFL Draft, and he could contribute in the return game because of his elusiveness in the open field. They also added CB Adam 'Pacman' Jones via free agency, and he could play some special teams as well.

Bengals | Caldwell, Cosby may return kick Week 12    Thu Dec 3, 10:23 AM

John Erardi and Joe Reedy, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, report Cincinnati Bengals WR Andre Caldwell or WR Quan Cosby will return kickoffs in Week 13 if RB Bernard Scott (toe) is not able to play.

Footballguys view: If Scott doesn't play on Sunday then it means that Larry Johnson will be the lone, and primary backup to Cedric Benson. The matchup against the Lions could mean it will be a good day for both running backs as the Bengals run away with this game.

Bengals | Cosby only likely to make team as punt returner    Wed Jul 15, 09:02 PM

Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports that undrafted free agent WR Quan Cosby is only likely to make the team as a punt returner "because of his lack of height and downfield wheels." He does compliment Cosby's "big heart". Hobson also points out that Cosby's main competition, Antonio Chatman, was considered one of the two best Bengals WRs this spring along with Chris Henry

Footballguys view: Cosby could eventually be a poor man's Troy Brown because he's quick, clutch, and physical despite his size, but he faces an uphill battle because he's a 26-year old rookie.

Bengals | Three work as punt returners Tuesday    Tue May 26, 03:24 PM

Joe Reedy, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Quan Cosby, S Tom Nelson and WR Antonio Chatman returned punts during practice Tuesday, May 26.

Footballguys view: Quan Cosby could emerge as the frontrunner here. Cosby is out to prove the doubters wrong after some called him too slow, too small, and too old to play in the NFL. The competition at WR behind Laveranues Coles, Chad Johnson, and Chris Henry will be fun to watch. Players like Cosby or Chatman could help their chances of winning a roster spot by being outstanding on special teams.

Bengals | Three to compete for punt return duties    Mon May 4, 06:03 PM

Joe Reedy, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Antonio Chatman, WR Quan Cosby and S Tom Nelson will compete for the punt return duties during training camp.

Footballguys view: Some say Quan Cosby is too small, too old, and too slow to play in the NFL. Cosby doesn't listen to the critics, he just goes out there and makes plays. He is a very hard worker that is dedicated to his craft. It wouldn't be a surprise to see him win the job here.

Bengals | Cosby signed    Mon Apr 27, 05:01 PM

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Cincinnati Bengals have signed undrafted rookie free-agent WR Quan Cosby (Texas). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Quan Cosby is an older rookie prospect (26) because of his minor league baseball career. While some say that he is too small and too slow to play in the NFL, Quan is a smart/savvy receiver and a good route runner. While he may never be a starter in the NFL he does have a chance to make a roster as a backup slot receiver.
